NHTSA Campaign: 16V502000

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Buick Verano and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as the electronic park lock lever may allow the ignition key to be removed without the transmission being in PARK. Also, certain 2013 Buick Encore, 2011 Buick Regal, 2013-2014 Buick Verano, 2011-2016 Chevrolet Cruze, 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox 2013-2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2011-2013 GMC Terrain vehicles may have been serviced with similar defective replacement electronic park lock levers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Risk: If the key is removed without the transmission in PARK, the vehicle may rollaway as occupants are exiting, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the key cylinder lock housing, free of charge. The recall began on October 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick 1-800-521-7300, and GMC 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 50490 and 50491.

Component: SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:POWER ADJUST

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal and Chevrolet Camaro, as well as certain 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles, equipped with power height adjustable driver and passenger seats. In the affected vehicles, the bolt that secures the driver's and passenger's power front seat height adjuster may fall out causing the seat to drop suddenly to the lowest vertical position.

Risk: If the driver's seat unexpectedly drops, the distraction and altered seat position may affect the drivers' control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the height adjuster shoulder bolts, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed interim letters to owners on September 11, 2014. The recall began on December 26, 2014. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-521-7300 (Buick), 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). Your engine is consuming oil faster than normal, even though you don't see any leaks underneath or inside the vehicle. You need to check and top off the oil almost daily to prevent the engine from running dry and seizing up. The underlying cause of the oil consumption will need to be diagnosed, which may involve checking piston rings, valve seals, or other internal engine components.

Your engine is burning through oil excessively again, even though you had the recall repair done before. Based on your research, it seems the piston rings installed during that repair may not have been the right size to properly seal and prevent oil from escaping through the exhaust. You're wondering if the repair can be covered again under warranty or recall.

After the dealership performed an oxygen sensor recall on your 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, your check engine light began coming on and off intermittently. Multiple scans have confirmed oxygen sensor fault codes (P0138 and P2271), and the problem has affected your vehicle's performance. The dealership has attempted the recall a second time, but the issue persists and they've had difficulty diagnosing it because the check engine light is intermittent. Resolving this will likely require a proper oxygen sensor replacement or electrical diagnosis of the oxygen sensor circuit.

Your check engine light keeps coming back on even after people have reset it multiple times. You're concerned about safety since you don't know what might fail or when, and the light is your only warning something is wrong. A mechanic will need to read the diagnostic trouble code to identify the underlying engine problem.

Your vehicle was brought in for a recall repair involving the oxygen sensor and tailpipe emissions. During the repair, the dealership discovered that the recalled part had damaged your catalytic converter, which they said would be covered under the recall. The dealership released your vehicle on 2/14/2025 before the repair was fully complete, stating it was drivable and they were only waiting for a harness. When you attempted to start the vehicle the following Monday to return it for the remaining repair, it made unusual noises, shut off, and won't restart. The repair will require diagnosis and completion of the outstanding work, including harness installation and addressing the engine startup issue.

Filed: Mar 2026

Your ABS and stability control warning light is on and staying on, with a repair estimate of $4,000. Additionally, your engine is burning through oil quickly—your oil gauge may read 70% full while the dipstick shows empty, requiring you to add 2-3 quarts frequently to prevent valve lifter noise from low oil levels. Without the stability control working properly, you could lose traction in snow or rain, and the engine could overheat and shut down during long drives, creating a dangerous situation on the road.

NHTSA #: 11724278
Suspension1 issue
criticalSUSPENSION
Filed: Nov 2025

Your rear suspension trailing arm and subframe have rusted through and separated from the frame, causing your rear wheels to shift out of alignment and making your vehicle unstable and unsafe to drive. If this rusted component completely detaches while you're driving, you could lose control of your vehicle and cause a serious accident. An independent mechanic has confirmed the frame is structurally compromised and unsafe without major repair. Fixing this will require replacement of the rusted frame, subframe assembly, and trailing arm components.

Filed: Oct 2025

Your power tailgate has a dangerous malfunction where it opens fully, then closes partially, then opens and closes again repeatedly when you use the external switch. The tailgate closes with significant force that's difficult or impossible to stop by hand, creating a serious risk of injury if someone gets caught between the tailgate and the vehicle body. The fix will likely involve replacing the tailgate motor assembly or the electronic control module that operates the power tailgate system.

Filed: Jan 2025

Your engine is leaking oil from the oil pan seal, which your mechanic discovered during an oil change—the engine was running low on oil. The oil pan uses a liquid sealant rather than a traditional gasket and will need to be removed and resealed. Additionally, your suspension is making noise that sounds like worn bushings, but there's no lubrication point available. Without proper oil levels, your engine could seize while driving and create a safety hazard.

Filed: Nov 2024

Your driver's side wiper blade has stopped working while the passenger side still functions normally. You've also noticed your engine is consuming oil too quickly—the oil level drops significantly between regular oil changes—and your catalytic converter has been damaged as a result. While recalls exist for both issues for your vehicle's make, model, and year, they don't apply to your specific VIN number. Fixes would likely involve replacing the wiper linkage assembly and addressing the underlying oil consumption problem, which may require engine gasket replacement or valve seal repair.
