Component: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. The ball joints in the windshield wiper module may corrode, causing one or both windshield wipers to fail.

Risk: Inoperative windshield wipers can reduce visibility in certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will inspect the wiper module, and repair or replace it as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on April 21, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 25, 2022. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212352530.

Your engine started running sluggishly and wouldn't accelerate properly, and you noticed it was burning through oil quickly even though there were no visible leaks underneath. A dealer diagnosed a timing chain failure as the cause. Fixing this will likely require timing chain replacement and related engine work.

NHTSA #: 11728071

Your engine is burning through oil quickly—you're adding a quart at every fill-up—and the RPMs fluctuate noticeably when idling, which you can hear as misfiring. A compression test showed one cylinder at only 70 psi while the others read around 125 psi, suggesting a possible broken seal or internal damage. Even after repairs to the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter, the check engine light keeps returning, indicating a deeper engine problem that may require internal engine inspection or rebuilding.

NHTSA #: 11708674

Filed: Dec 2025

Your engine is consuming excessive oil, requiring you to add up to three quarts every 2-3 weeks. You've already paid $2,500 to replace the timing chain, but the problem has returned even after that repair. Despite having only 4,000 miles on the car in a year and a half, the dealership says there's no known service bulletin for your vehicle to address this issue. Resolving this will likely require additional engine diagnostics and possibly another major repair or engine component replacement.

Your engine failed completely without any warning lights or messages appearing on your dashboard. An auto repair shop confirmed the problem. Fortunately, this didn't create an immediate safety risk or cause a crash, but your car is no longer driveable and will need engine service or replacement.

Filed: Mar 2026

Your car is making loud noises, shuddering, and stalling while driving at various speeds, and your check engine light is on. A mechanic diagnosed this as engine failure requiring a complete engine replacement. This is the second time your engine has failed in two years, with the first replacement occurring around 100,000 miles.

Your passenger occupancy sensor isn't working properly, which is causing a service airbag warning message to appear on your dashboard. This means the passenger airbag may not deploy correctly in a crash, putting any passengers at risk. A repair shop will need to diagnose and replace the faulty sensor.

Your engine is burning through oil very quickly — you're losing about 4 quarts before reaching 3,000 miles — and your oil smells like gasoline. This suggests fuel is leaking into your oil, which can happen if internal engine seals or pistons aren't sealing properly. The owner believes this may be related to a known issue with 2010-2014 Equinox 4-cylinder engines and recommends contacting Chevrolet about a potential recall or warranty coverage for piston and seal replacement.

Your 2014 Equinox's 2.4L EcoTec engine may buck or hesitate at stop signs and stall unexpectedly. You might also notice higher-than-normal fuel consumption. This appears to be a widespread issue affecting multiple vehicles with this engine.

Your Equinox is consuming oil faster than normal, meaning the oil level drops between scheduled oil changes. You may have noticed this issue during routine service, and while Chevrolet dealership service didn't initially identify it, an independent shop confirmed the problem. Addressing this typically involves diagnosing the source of the oil loss—which could be internal engine wear, a faulty valve cover gasket, or piston ring issues—and replacing the affected components.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your 2014 Chevy Equinox's 2.4L engine consumed oil at an abnormal rate without warning, forcing you to constantly top it off between oil changes. The engine eventually failed completely and required a $11,879 replacement in March 2025. About a month after installing the new engine, you experienced another service issue, suggesting the underlying defect may not have been resolved. A sudden engine seizure while driving could create a serious safety hazard.

criticalSTEERING,POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Filed: Jan 2026

While driving on the highway, your engine suddenly lost power and wouldn't respond to the accelerator, forcing you to coast to the shoulder. The engine wouldn't restart after stopping, and you had experienced warning signs beforehand including flickering Check Engine and Battery lights, plus unusually high RPMs during normal acceleration. A technician had already replaced the starter and checked the battery before this incident, but the Check Engine light remained on. The repair will likely involve diagnosing the electrical system, fuel delivery system, and engine control computer to identify why the engine stalled and won't restart.

Your rearview camera display goes black when you shift into reverse, and sometimes stays on even after you shift back to drive. In one instance, the camera failure caused you to hit a parked car while backing up because you couldn't see behind you. This safety feature isn't working reliably, which increases the risk of backing into objects or other vehicles. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the camera system, checking the wiring and connections, and possibly replacing the camera unit or its control module.

criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Aug 2025

Your car's electrical system failed while you were driving in traffic, causing the engine to suddenly slow down. When you stopped the vehicle, it wouldn't restart. This is especially dangerous if you're an older driver who might be stranded on a busy road.

Filed: Apr 2025

Your 2014 Equinox is experiencing multiple electrical and engine issues including warning lights (Service StabiliTrak, Power Steering, Check Engine), door locks that cycle continuously, random loss of acceleration with jolting, and complete power loss while driving at unpredictable times. The diagnostic code UO101 appears when tested, but the dealership couldn't reproduce the problem during a 4-day inspection. These random shutdowns create a serious safety hazard as your car can stall unexpectedly in traffic. Diagnosis will likely require capturing the fault while it's happening, running comprehensive electrical diagnostics, and possibly replacing or reprogramming the vehicle's main computer module or electrical control units.

Power Train,engine1 issue
highPOWER TRAIN,ENGINE
Filed: Feb 2026

Your engine suddenly went into limp mode on the highway without any warning, causing a loss of acceleration that nearly caused an accident. You received a reduced engine power warning, and diagnostic testing revealed that your throttle body needs to be replaced. The dealer noted this is a common issue with this engine model and mentioned there may be a recall for older Equinoxes. Fixing this will involve replacing the throttle body component.

Filed: Oct 2025

Your StabiliTrac, brake, and traction control warning lights stayed on and wouldn't reset. The shop diagnosed a faulty ABS module and traction control switch, which required replacement at a cost of $1,999.32. The fix involved replacing the ABS module and traction control switch to restore normal brake and traction control operation.

One of your car's 22 onboard computers failed, which required major repairs to fix. Your temperature sensor keeps failing after just 1-2 months of normal driving, even after you've replaced it multiple times along with the wiring harnesses and connectors. The problem continues to come back despite these repairs. A technician will need to diagnose whether there's an underlying electrical issue causing the sensor to fail repeatedly, possibly involving deeper wiring problems or a faulty sensor mount.
