NHTSA Campaign: 14V567000
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2008 Chrysler 300 vehicles manufactured May 31, 2007, to May 12, 2008, Dodge Magnum vehicles manufactured May 23, 2007, to May 12, 2008, Dodge Charger vehicles manufactured May 24, 2007, to May 12, 2008, Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured April 3, 2007, to May 12, 2008, and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured March 21, 2007, to May 12, 2008. In the affected vehicles, the ignition key (FOBIK) may not return to the "ON" position after being rotated to the "START" position, instead sticking between the two positions. Potentially, while the vehicle is being driven, the ignition may inadvertently move through the "RUN" position to the "ACCESSORY" or "OFF" ignition position, turning off the engine.
Risk: If the ignition stays between "START" and "ON" positions it could cause loss of certain electrical functions. If the ignition key inadvertently moves into the "OFF" or "ACCESSORY" position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch and key FOBs, free of charge. The recall began August 19, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P57.
NHTSA Campaign: 13V175000
Component: POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, through March 9, 2010; and 2006-2010 Jeep Commander vehicles manufactured January 31, 2005, through March 10, 2010. A transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position.
Risk: If the vehicle shifts into neutral, it may roll away increasing the risk of a crash or personal injury.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the final drive controller which governs the transfer case, with new software, free of charge. The recall began on August 15, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N23.

CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 1,338 MY 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND COMMANDER VEHICLES. THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY MANUFACTURED.
Risk: THIS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING OR NOT TO START AND/OR CAUSE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO BECOME INOPERATIVE. ENGINE STALLING OR INOPERATIVE WIPERS COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE MODULE AND REPLACE IT IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 18, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
NHTSA Campaign: 09E039000
Component: SUSPENSION
ROCK KRAWLER IS RECALLING 44 PERFORMANCE SUSPENSION SYSTEMS SOLD AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT FOR USE ON THE VEHICLE LISTED ABOVE. THESE SUSPENSION SYSTEMS WERE PRODUCED WITH GRADE 2 CARRIAGE BOLTS INSTEAD OF THE PROPER GRADE 5 CARRIAGE BOLTS. THE IMPROPER GRADE 2 CARRIAGE BOLTS COULD EXPERIENCE A LOSS OF CLAMPING FORCE FOR THE BOTTOM STRUT FORK.
Risk: THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE A LOSS OF EFFECTIVE LIFT AND LOWERING OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLE, POSSIBLY CREATING THE DRIVER TO PANIC WHICH COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO A VEHICLE CRASH.
Fix: ROCK KRAWLER WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND PROVIDE A FREE REMEDY. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 15. 2008. ALL THE AFFECTED UNTITS HAVE BEEN REMEDIED. OWNERS MAY CONTACT ROCK KRAWLER AT 1-518-270-9822.
NHTSA Campaign: 07V415000
Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:CALIPER
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS IN A CERTAIN LOT MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED FROM GRAY IRON INSTEAD OF DUCTILE IRON AS DESIGNED AND COULD FRACTURE WITHOUT WARNING.
Risk: THIS WOULD INCREASE THE VEHICLE'S STOPPING DISTANCE AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS TO SEE IF THEY FALL INTO THIS LOT AND, IF SO, WILL REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 22, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

Electrical System →5 issues
Your car's ignition switch is failing, causing the engine to shut off unexpectedly and the transmission to malfunction—you shifted into reverse but the car drove forward instead, forcing you to turn it off to avoid a crash. The ignition also takes longer than normal to respond when you try to start the vehicle. A mechanic diagnosed the problem as ignition switch failure and recommended replacement.

Your car's ignition is turning off unexpectedly while you're driving on the road. When this happens, the engine shuts down and you have to use your key fob to restart it. Once restarted, you need to slow down significantly before the transmission will engage again, which is dangerous in heavy traffic.

Your ignition switch is sticking in the on position and making electrical and buzzing sounds. You've found that there's a recall for this exact issue on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokees, but Jeep corporate says your Laredo model isn't included. The fix will likely involve replacing the ignition switch assembly.

You received a recall notice for your 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee's electrical system, but the repair parts weren't available from the manufacturer. You contacted the dealer and the manufacturer, and both confirmed the parts were still unavailable even though the recall has been pending for what you felt was an unreasonable amount of time. The fix will require installing replacement electrical components once the manufacturer makes them available.

Air Bags →5 issues
Your driver's side steering wheel airbag deployed unexpectedly while you were backing into a parking space this morning. The airbag warning light came on for the first time while driving home, and then the airbag suddenly went off during parking, which could have caused an accident or injury. You'll need to have a mechanic or dealership inspect the airbag system to determine what caused the malfunction and ensure it's safe to drive.

Your driver side airbag curtain deployed suddenly while you were driving normally on the interstate at 75-80 mph with no impact, bump, or warning. The sudden deployment caused you to swerve and created a visual obstruction on the driver side, forcing you to navigate to the shoulder. The airbag system may have a sensor malfunction or electrical fault causing unintended activation.

Your vehicle was involved in a severe crash where it was T-boned at an intersection and rolled over multiple times. The airbags did not deploy during the crash, even though no recalls were in effect that would have disabled them. A dealer inspection and possible airbag system diagnostics would be needed to determine why the system failed to activate during this impact.

Your driver's side airbag deployed without warning while you were making a normal right turn into a parking spot, striking you in the stomach and arm and causing burn marks. The airbag deployed a second time about 1-2 minutes later, spraying particles at you again. Your mechanic found no safety recalls on your vehicle and expressed concern that simply replacing the airbag module might not solve the underlying problem causing the unexpected deployment. The airbag system should be diagnosed and repaired by a Jeep/Chrysler dealer to identify why it activated without a crash.

Your airbag warning light is turning on and off intermittently due to a faulty clockspring—the component that connects your steering wheel to the airbag system. This is a known issue that Jeep recalled for Wranglers, but your Grand Cherokee model wasn't included in that recall despite having the same problem. The clockspring will need to be replaced to restore proper airbag function and turn off the warning light.

Steering,electrical System,engine →1 issue
Your engine compartment caught fire due to a wire harness retention clip failure that allowed the starter wiring to contact the steering column. As the steering column rotated, it damaged the wire insulation and exposed live electrical current to the steering assembly. In this case, a power steering fluid leak near the electrified wires ignited the fire. This is a serious safety defect that needs manufacturer investigation.

Seats,electrical System →1 issue
Your driver's side seat caught fire and smoldered while parked, with the seat bottom becoming charred and the plastic frame and cover melting. The seat heater turned on by itself without anyone touching it, which caused the fire. Your daughter had to place a blanket on the seat to drive safely. Fixing this will likely require the seat heater element and possibly the entire seat assembly to be replaced, along with an electrical inspection to prevent the heater from malfunctioning again.

Electrical System,vehicle Speed Control,service Brakes →1 issue
Your 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee has caught fire and started smoking multiple times. The engine RPMs have jumped to high levels unexpectedly, causing the vehicle to accelerate on its own, and when this happened, your brakes failed to stop the vehicle and the emergency brake did not work. This issue has resulted in a crash and fire.

Electrical System,vehicle Speed Control,engine →1 issue
Your Jeep randomly enters limp mode and gets stuck in 2nd gear, which causes your speed to suddenly drop from 65 mph to 30 mph without warning — even though you've already replaced the shifter solenoid. This happened to you on the highway and nearly caused another vehicle to hit you from behind. The problem may require diagnosis of the transmission control system and possibly additional repairs beyond just the solenoid.

Tires →1 issue
While driving at 55 mph, your right rear tire suddenly exploded without warning, causing your vehicle to lose control and nearly hit other cars before you regained enough control to pull onto the shoulder. Upon inspection, the front right tire also showed steel belts protruding through the tread, despite the tires being within wear limits and recently passing state inspection. You had to pay out of pocket to replace all four tires after the manufacturer refused to cover the cost of the two remaining questionable tires. A tire replacement or repair may involve dismounting the wheel, inspecting the tire structure, and installing new tires if the damage is too severe.

Power Train →1 issue
Your transmission randomly shifts hard into 4th gear and stays there until you restart the engine, regardless of your speed. This happens unpredictably—it might not occur for months, then happen frequently for a while before stopping again, with no clear pattern or trigger. The issue may require transmission fluid analysis, sensor diagnostics, or transmission control module reprogramming to identify and fix the shifting problem.

Electrical System,unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
Your Jeep has a recall (P57) that your dealer attempted to complete, but MOPAR hasn't sent the required spare parts needed to fix an electrical or engine-related issue. The recall was marked as completed in the system even though the repair wasn't actually finished. Your dealer is waiting for MOPAR to send the parts so they can complete the repair, which affects your vehicle's driving performance. You may need to follow up with the dealer and MOPAR directly to ensure the parts arrive and the recall is properly completed.

Suspension,electrical System →1 issue
Your key fob is no longer being recognized by your vehicle, and you're seeing an unknown key warning on the dashboard. Before this happened, your key would get stuck in the start position and you had to manually turn it back to the on position. Your front brake calipers were also recently replaced when your mechanic found them to be defective. The dealer hasn't been able to help resolve these issues. The fix will likely involve replacing the wireless ignition node and possibly addressing related ignition system components under a recall.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting,unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your interior lights (dashboard, radio, and AC controls) flicker while driving, and your dome lights flicker on and off when doors open even when they're set to off. Your right tail light bulb burns out frequently, and your headlights have moisture inside them without any visible cracks, which may be causing them to appear dim or not fully illuminated.
