EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS
Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Fusion vehicles, manufactured from February 3, 2012, through October 20, 2012, for failing to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." The affected vehicles may not have had the low beam headlamp projector coating properly cured during its manufacturing process.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlamp assembly. The recall began on December 18, 2012. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

Your turn signal cancels unexpectedly while you're turning, even though you've locked the signal stalk in the continuous position. The slightest movement of your steering wheel away from the turn direction—as little as 1 or 2 degrees—will cause the signal to shut off without your awareness, which is a safety concern. Ford has a known service bulletin for this issue requiring a reprogram of the steering column signal switch, but dealership repair costs are high.

In March of 2024 I discovered that the passenger side front turn signal was not working. I assumed it was the bulb so I replaced it but the turn signal still failed to work. I took the vehicle to the Ford dealer where the vehicle was purchased new. Upon inspection, it was determined that a control module was the cause of the issue. I was informed that Ford no longer made the control module and the dealer would reach out to a vendor that sells used control modules for my vehicle. After several modules were obtained from a third party vendor, none of the modules would work for my vehicle. It was explained to me by the service advisor at the dealership that none of the modules were a match for my vehicle but with no clear explanation why. The lack of a functioning turn signal is not only a safety violation but it is also a traffic violation. I have contacted Ford Motor Corporation but they are unable or unwilling to address my issue. This vehicle is over ten years old but has less than 50,000 miles on the odometer. It is in excellent condition and has no other mechanical issues with the exception of the non functioning turn signal.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, the low-beam headlamps failed to adequately illuminate the roadway. The contact activated the high-beam headlights to see the roadway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and Auto Zone Auto Parts, where the headlamp bulbs were replaced several times; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V553000 (Exterior Lighting) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
MY CAR WAS APART OF THE HEADLIGHT RECALL IN 2013. AFTER THE FIX THE DRIVER HEADLIGHT WAS NEVER THE SAME. RECENTLY THAT DRIVER HEADLIGHT WENT OUT WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. TO CHANGE A HEADLIGHT IT COSTS $30 PER BULB AND THEN A COUPLE OF HOURS OF TIME TO REMOVE/REPLACE THE BUMPER AT $160 AN HOUR. IN MY CASE, IT WASN'T THE BULB BUT THE BODY MODULE CONTROL WHICH HANDLES ALL THE LIGHTING IN MY CAR. THE HEADLIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO BE AT 12 VOLTS, BUT WAS AT A 9 VOLTS AND I'M TOLD IT FINALLY SHORTED. I THINK THIS HAS TO DO WITH THE HEADLIGHT REPAIR DONE YEARS AGO. THIS ENDED UP BEING A $1000 REPAIR. FOR A HEADLIGHT THIS IS A TERRIBLE BUILD FOR CONSUMERS.
HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT SO OFTEN! YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE BUMPER IN ORDER TO ACCESS SWITCHING THESE BULBS. THIS IS COSTLY IN LABOR AND FORD OEM PARTS. WHEN ONE HEADLIGHT GOES OUT IT TRIGGERS THEM ALL TO GO OUT. VERY DANGEROUS IF ON A ROAD TRIP OR DRIVING AT NIGHT. WAS SOLD A VEHICLE WITH MY HEADLIGHT PIGTAIL PLUGS CORRODED. ESTIMATE IS $680 FROM FORD TO FIX MY ISSUE! $360 FOR JUST A HEADLIGHT SWITCH. THERE IS A RECALL ON SOME 2013 FUSIONS THEY CLAIM A DEFECTIVE FILM HOWEVER IVE SPOKEN TO DOZENS OF OTHER OWNERS ON FORD FORUMS AT THIS POINT, WHO HAVE MY SAME ISSUE WITH THE HEADLIGHT LOW BEAMS GOING OUT WITHIN A YEAR. PLANNING ON GETTING TOGETHER AND FILING A MASS CLAIM IF THEY DONT RECTIFY MY CORRODED EQUIPMENT ISSUE. MIGHT HAVE TO STEER PEOPLE AWAY FROM BUYING FUSIONS. I WAS PULLED OVER FOR THIS TOO AND NEARLY HIT BY SPEEDING CARS ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WAS NOT EVEN A BURNT BULB.
PASSENGER HEADLIGHT GOING OUT CONSTANTLY. NEED TO TAKE BUMPER OFF TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS, NOT A CHEAP OR EASY FIX. I HAVE COME OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THE SET ALREADY COSTING ME $136.50, 1 MONTH LATER SAME HEADLIGHT HAS GONE OUT. FORD IS QUOTING ME OVER $200.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR AND $99 JUST TO LOOK AT IT. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN SEP. 23 2013. MY HEADLIGHTS SHOULD HAVE HAD A 6 YEAR WARRANTY AND MY NEW SET HAS A 7 YEAR WARRANTY. VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL THAT WORK JUST TO SWITCH OUT A LIGHT BULB WHEN ITS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE.

REPLACEMENT OF A SIMPLE FRONT PARKING LIGHT IS ESTIMATED BY FORD SERVICE IN NEW HAMPSHIRE TO COST $250.00 BECAUSE THE FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY MUST BE REMOVED TO REPLACE THE SINGLE BULB.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FEB 2 2016, THE FORD FUSION HYBRID 2013 MODEL, SUDDENLY LOST ITS ABILITY TO DELIVER POWER AND PROPULSION. LOSS OF POWER TO THE VEHICLE RESULTED IN LOSS OF LIGHT TO THE CONSOLE AND TO THE CAR'S PROPULSION SYSTEM SLOWING IT FROM FREEWAY SPEEDS OF 65 MPH TO WHAT SEEMS LIKE 5 MPH OR LESS, IN THE THE EVENING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC.ALL ATTEMPTS AT APPLYING THE GAS PEDAL HAD FAILED TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE, AS THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE POWER PROPULSION SYSTEM. I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE ON MOMENTUM TO A SOFT SHOULDER. THE CAR WAS TOWED OFF THE BRIDGE AND LATER TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. NO CAUSE WAS FOUND BY THE FORD TECHNICIANS AND FORD REGIONAL CUSTOMER RELATIONS SAID MY CAUSE COULD NOT BE HELPED IF THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM, THUS I AM STUCK WITH A POTENTIAL CATASTROPHIC FAILURE THAT CAN HAPPEN AT ANYTIME DURING FREEWAY COMMUTE. THIS IS A POTENTIAL DANGER TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY AND FORD IS UNWILLING TO MITIGATE OR ADDRESS SUCH A SERIOUS LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM.
THE MECHANISM THAT CANCELS THE TURN SIGNAL AFTER COMPLETING THE TURN IS MALFUNCTIONING. INTERMITTENTLY THE TURN SIGNAL WILL CANCEL PREMATURELY, POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO TURN INTO THE PATH OF AN ONCOMING VEHICLE WHICH THINKS THE DRIVER IS NOT TUNING, BECAUSE THE TURN SIGNAL IS NOT FLASHING. THE CONDITION SOMETIMES APPEARS AFTER APPLYING ONLY VERY SLIGHT INPUT TO THE STEERING WHEEL, OR APPLYING NO INPUT AT ALL, WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL FOR INSTANCE.
WHETHER MOVING OR STATIONARY, THE VEHICLE TURN SIGNAL WILL INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF AFTER 1 OR 2 BLINKS BEFORE THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED. THIS SEEMS TO BE A RANDOM BUT DANGEROUS PROBLEM IN TRAFFIC. DEALER CLAIMS NOT TO BE ABLE TO REPLICATE THIS PROBLEM BUT THE MANUFACTURER HAS MODIFIED THE TURN SIGNAL MECHANISM IN LATER MODEL YEARS
LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHT PASSENGER SIDE HAS DIMMED REFLECTIVE SURFACE APPEARS CLOUDY AS PER RECALL 12C27 WAS ORIGINATED TO ADDRESS, THIS VEHICLE CONFORMS TO THIS RECALL'S MANUFACTURE DATE OF OCTOBER 04-2012 AND AT THE AFFECTED FACILITY OF HERMOSILLO, MEXICO, THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED YET REFUSES TO HONOR THE REPAIR STATING THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE TURNING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT THE TIME OF THE REPAIR, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE TURNING MODULE WAS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THEY WOULD CALL BACK WHEN THE APPROPRIATE REPAIR WAS AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY ON A SUNNY DAY. MY HEADLIGHTS WERE SET AT "AUTO." THIS SELECTION AUTOMATICALLY TURNS MY HEADLIGHTS FROM DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS TO FULL HEADLIGHTS BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT OUTSIDE. I ENTERED ONE OF THE MANY TUNNELS ON THE PARKWAY AND MY LIGHTS DID NOT COME ONE. IT WAS A SHORT TUNNEL, SO I THOUGHT PERHAPS THE SENSOR DIDN'T "THINK IT WAS DARK ENOUGH." HOWEVER, FOR EACH TUNNEL AFTER THAT, AND TO THIS DAY REGARDLESS HOW LONG OR DARK THE TUNNEL, MY "AUTOMATIC" HEADLIGHTS DO NOT TURN MY HEADLIGHTS ON. THIS CREATES AN UNEXPECTED COMPLETE LACK OF VISION. FORD CORPORATE AND MY LOCAL FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT BOTH AGREED THAT THIS IS NOT UNUSUAL, THAT THE AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHTS OFTEN TAKE UP TO 20 SECONDS TO MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT. I KNOW NO OTHER CAR WHERE THIS ADJUSTMENT ISN'T NEARLY INSTANTANEOUSLY. HAD THERE BEEN A CYCLIST IN THE TUNNEL OR HAD I MET ANOTHER CAR, THIS "ANOMALY" COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. *TR

AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS OF OWNERSHIP IT WAS ALL TOO APPARENT THAT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS, EVEN AFTER THE SAFETY HEADLIGHT RECALL (12C27/NHTSA 12V-553), OFFER INADEQUATE, SUB STANDARD, HAZARDOUS INFERIOR ILLUMINATION BOTH FORWARD AND TO BOTH SIDES! COMPARED TO OUR TOYOTA HIGHLANDER 2008 AND VOLVO S70 WAGON 2003 THE 2013 FUSION HYBRID LOW BEAM ILLUMINATION IS SHORT DISTANCED AND DIM, <50% OF EXPERIENCED IN THOSE VEHICLES! THAT PUTS THE DRIVER AT SERIOUS RISK! I CALLED FORD MOTOR'S 800 LINE A FEW WEEKS AGO. THEY COURTEOUSLY PUT ME THROUGH TO THE HEAD MECHANIC AT MUZI FORD. I SPOKE TO 2 HEAD FORD DEALER MECHANICS: MUZI FORD, NEEDHAM AND FRAMINGHAM FORD, FRAMINGHAM AND THEY CONFIRM THAT I HAVE NO HEADLIGHT OPTION. *TR
THE FRONT BODY PANELS AROUND THE HEADLIGHTS ARE LOOSE AND YOU CAN HEAR SOME KIND OF A RATTLE AROUND THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WHEN YOU GET OVER 55 MPH. *TR
