Owner Complaints (172)
Your car is making loud noises, shuddering, and stalling while driving at various speeds, and your check engine light is on. A mechanic diagnosed this as engine failure requiring a complete engine replacement. This is the second time your engine has failed in two years, with the first replacement occurring around 100,000 miles.

Your engine started running sluggishly and wouldn't accelerate properly, and you noticed it was burning through oil quickly even though there were no visible leaks underneath. A dealer diagnosed a timing chain failure as the cause. Fixing this will likely require timing chain replacement and related engine work.

Your engine is burning through oil quickly—you're adding a quart at every fill-up—and the RPMs fluctuate noticeably when idling, which you can hear as misfiring. A compression test showed one cylinder at only 70 psi while the others read around 125 psi, suggesting a possible broken seal or internal damage. Even after repairs to the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter, the check engine light keeps returning, indicating a deeper engine problem that may require internal engine inspection or rebuilding.

Your engine is consuming excessive oil, requiring you to add up to three quarts every 2-3 weeks. You've already paid $2,500 to replace the timing chain, but the problem has returned even after that repair. Despite having only 4,000 miles on the car in a year and a half, the dealership says there's no known service bulletin for your vehicle to address this issue. Resolving this will likely require additional engine diagnostics and possibly another major repair or engine component replacement.

Your Equinox is consuming oil faster than normal, meaning the oil level drops between scheduled oil changes. You may have noticed this issue during routine service, and while Chevrolet dealership service didn't initially identify it, an independent shop confirmed the problem. Addressing this typically involves diagnosing the source of the oil loss—which could be internal engine wear, a faulty valve cover gasket, or piston ring issues—and replacing the affected components.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to be restarted. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The blank warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 17-NA-098; but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.
Two weeks of zero degree weather caused the rear main seal to fail causing a large oil leak that could have resulted in the engine locking up if I had not noticed oil running down the driveway. Repair shop advised this was a common problem with the 2.4 liter engine caused by a failure of the PCV system and there is a service bulletin on this problem. GM has not recalled these engines to correct the known problem.
PVC value defect blowing rear main seal out ! Paid $3100.00 2 years ago . Went out again defected!!!
I got to work and my check engine light came on. As I was parking I received an error message that said decreased engine power. I turned off the car and the car would no turn back on. I had it towed to my mechanic and he told me today that the engine was low on oil. That caused the timing chain tensioner to relax the chain and the timing jumped. When that happens in those engines it damages the cylinder head. The engine will need a new cylinder head and a rebuild of the timing system etc. That would include new pistons as well. That would be about 5500 to do or I’d need to buy a new engine would be about 7k or just over installed. I was well within the oil change guidance on the sticker as well as the oil change guidance in the car menu.
Rear oil seal leaking the connecter piece burst and is causing the oil to leak all out and making the car die. It is a know issue and recall but my vin number does not match. The vehicle is un drivable at this time.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH in cold weather, the vehicle was shuddering. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the work garage, where the contact noticed that a significant amount of oil had leaked onto the ground. A mobile mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the main crankshaft seal had failed because the PCV system had frozen. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance in covering the repair under Technical Service Bulletin: Bulletin No: PIP5093B. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the contact became aware of smoke in the rearview mirror and heard a loud thud. The contact exited the highway and drove to a gas station where the vehicle started to lose motive power. The contact stated there was oil dripping from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 176,014.
My car is equipped with the 2.4L ecotec engine and has insane levels of oil consumption. Since my last oil change 2000miles ago I've added 5 quarts of oil. A few days ago the car started making a ticking sound while driving, the car then began surging and tried to take off while i had my foot on the break, and started to overheat and then shut off at a light. I was able to restart the vehicle and had no per on the rest of the drive. When I got home I checked the oil and the dipstick was dry. I received no warning light or indication that this was the case.
I have a 2014 Chevy Equinox 2LT - VIN [XXX] - 2.4L I4 F DOHC 16V Engine Oil Consumption Recall – my engine is consuming oil, I do not see an external engine oil leak on the ground. There is an active recall for the 2013 Chevy Equinox LT – 4 cylinder engine for the internal engine oil leak, allowing recall repair/replacement of the engine pistons and rings, I would like my vehicle included in this recall, since the same exact engine oil consumption is taking place with my vehicle. I have to add at lease 2 quarts of oil each month. My vehicle has a little over 202,000 miles on it. Please respond to my request. Thank you, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I woke up one morning to take my daughter to school as I drove away and came to a stop sign my 2014 Equinox started bouncing/shaking tremendously while idling at the stop sign. I turned around and drove back home (1/2 block away.) We had the vehicle towed to a mechanic shop where we were told that the engine is bad and would need to be replaced. This came as a shocker since the vehicle only has 130K miles on it and there were no warnings of engine problems.
I bought a new 2014 Chevy Equinox with the base 2.4L engine at David Maus Chevrolet in Sanford Florida My car suffered a sudden, premature engine failure on August 2024. even though we have religiously changed the oil every 3,000 miles My car is at 152000 miles stop working and unfortunately and the engine cost repair is near around $3000. Not including labor. I was told by my mechanic the Equinox has has a recall on burning oil however was 2011 to 2013. Seems as chevrolet still has not fixed this problem. My Vin # was not in a class action suite of recall. I need help for Chevrolet replace the engine on my car
Car can not hold oil. It uses a lot of oil. Plus the engine went out due timing chain belt and clogged pcv valve. Costing thousands of dollars. Plus I’m locked in car payments for a vehicle that has known issues.
Timing chain failure while driving due to excessive oil consumption that General Motors and mechanics/dealerships are well aware of. In between oil changes, oil is known to have burned 2-3 quarts leaving not enough oil to be pumped on to the chains and rails which leads to unknown failure. No "low oil" indication of the vehicle. Just about every one of these engines that are manufactured are having the same issue and GM has yet to resolve this.
The contact's brother owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. Additionally, the contact stated that while the driver was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal rattling sound and stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The driver was unable to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the residence, where an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle, and informed the contact that the timing belt or the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Oil consumption issue with no warning and no indicator lights. I get regular oil changes and was never told I was ever low on oil. Engine was running with no oil and cause pistons to misfire and vehicle began stalling with my young children in the vehicle. Piston damage has caused metal shavings to enter engine and engine now needs to be replaced with 61,000 miles on the vehicle. My safety and my children’s safety was risked with no warning and no indication there was any issue, which could have resulted in an engine fire. Two different repair shops said this is a common issue with the equinox and has been involved in class action lawsuits in other states for models 2008-2017. I have called the dealership which resold the vehicle to me used knowing there was an issue and didn’t disclose any information regarding this and they have refused to do anything for me except for so the repairs and have me pay out of pocket because they say there is no issue large enough for a recall.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, there was an abnormal oil odor detected. The contact pulled over and noticed there was a puddle of oil on the roadway. The contact checked underneath the vehicle and noticed oil on the undercarriage. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under TSB: 14882 Special Coverage Adjustment – Plugged PCV Orifice in Intake Manifold. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the repairs were not covered. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
The engine suddenly lost power and by the time we got it home it was knocking really loud. We just had it serviced a few months before for oil change and tune up. When I checked the oil it was completely empty no low oil light or anything came on there were no oil leaks. When we contacted the garage they informed us that there has been problems with the engine burning excessive oil. I looked it up and seen there is litigation for this same engine for same issue in different states.

The motor burns oil really fast I go through about a quart a week there are problems with motor I've had my mechanics check it out and they say that the rings need to be replaced but also I've been reading in and everybody's everybody else has your same year models have the mechanics that said that the wrong pistons and rings are in the motors which is why we are burning so much oil I have kept up on the maintenance I've done everything I was so sweet doing but it's going it's damaging the motor having the wrong parts and motor
“Check engine” light came on recently (September 30th) accompanied by a rattling noise and smell of something burning inside the vehicle. Stopped at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts to have them pull the code before heading to auto shop. Code pulled was P0014 stating issue with exhaust camshaft. Took vehicle to Techway Automotive shop for diagnostic and let them know the code that was pulled at O’Reilly’s. Mechanic completed diagnostic and stated vehicle is consuming oil rapidly causing the engine pistons to “come apart”, specifically the piston rings and seals due to the high oil consumption and that the engine will give out sooner or later, worse case scenario the engine will blow or will cause a fire. Mechanic stated this is a common issue with these vehicles and it cannot be repaired, only complete engine replacement will “fix” the issue but would still require frequent oil level checks every 1000 miles or less. Burning smell and loss of power is very concerning to myself and passengers safety. I have found multiple accounts from others with the same year, make, model and engine type dealing with the same issues or worse. Several have already experienced the worst of it which is their engine catching fire. I was unaware of this being an ongoing issue until it happened to me and I started finding all of these other accounts of the same issues but no sign of recall for this vehicle even though there appear to have been recalls and class action suits filed for older and newer vehicles of the same make and model with similar issues. This needs to be addressed and repaired or fully compensated by the manufacturer since they have been aware of this problem since their 2010 models.
Purchased car used in April 2020. Noticed the first month issues with oil consumption. In December 2020 the dealership replaced the motor with a “new” motor and the car also needed a new catalytic converter. Warranty on “new motor” was 3 month or 3,000 mile warranty. Car mileage was 121,000 when motor was replaced. Now motor is at around 150,000 and motor stopped while driving. Everything in the car completely shut down on me while I was on the road. Both motors would consume all my oil within 1,000 miles. No one could tell me where the oil was going or what was continuing to happen to the catalytic converters. Purchased a brand new motor with 0 miles on it for $5,800 not counting cost to have it installed. Also had to purchase another catalytic converter. Since I have purchased this car no low oil light or anything to warn me about the oil has never came on in the car. One time 700 miles after changing the oil, I checked the oil on my own, no lights or anything, and there was not a drop of oil in the car. This car is dangerous. People need to be warned before they purchase one that there are no warnings on the oil or the motors. This car has been a nightmare since I purchased it and I’m stuck with it because of being “upside down” on the vehicle and having to pay out of pocket for so many repairs.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was later towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle made an abnormal popping sound and lost motive power. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the timing chain link had fractured due to low oil pressure, and the engine needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the dealer had completed an oil change on the vehicle a month prior to the failure. The dealer also informed the contact that there was no oil sign of an oil leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the dealer to cover the labor fee while the contact would cover the cost for the engine repair. The dealer informed the contact that the labor cost could not be covered because the failure was a manufacturing defect. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
In late March 2023, my wife's 2014 Chevy Equinox was take to a store, and when she returned the car was dead and would not start. Not a single warning light or indicator went off on her way there. She called our local mechanic, who towed it to their shop and after diagnosing the problem told her the engine was dead from burning up every bit of oil in it. We have tried to 5 months to write and talk with Chevrolet/GM for assistance and got nothing but "we're sorry". At their direction we tried to take the vehicle to the closest Chevy Dealer to get their official diagnosis, but they never returned our calls. MY wife needed a vehicle to get to work, her vehicle booked out at $10-12,000 and had recently been paid off. We were forced to buy a replacment vehicle at an inflated price and interest rate due to the market. This is a know problem in Chevy vehicles and they have not lifted a finger to help or issue a recall even though it is well documented their vehicles had this problem on models from 2010-2017.
Piston Rings leaked excessive oil which led to engine damage and engine failure. Engine could have caught fire or failed during driving. No warning lights came on to warn of the problem. The incident occurred 480 miles from home. It is a serious safety concern to the drivers and others on the road at time of failure.
Oil consumption issue turned into motor having to be replaced and endless other things being replaced.
At 68,000 miles, my engine failed. The dealership, who had just performed a routine oil change 5 days prior, said my timing chain slipped/broke and I needed a new engine. There was no warning, no lights, no signs at all that something was wrong with my engine. It started shaking and within seconds, just died. I was driving my son home from school and were stranded without a vehicle. GM denied this being a known issue even though there is a TSB about this exact issue. They refused to replace my engine because I was outside my extended warranty. I had always performed the recommended maintenance on my vehicle at Chevrolet dealerships so it is all documented. I ended up paying to have a new engine put in my vehicle.
My first purchased car was from Jeff Gordon Chevy in Wilmington, NC a few years ago. I loved it! It was a "certified GM" vehicle and as such was covered "bumper to bumper" for an extra fee for 100,000 miles. It was a great vehicle up to 3 weeks ago. It almost killed me! On the way home from my job as a teacher at Sipes Academy, imagine my terror when at 55 MPH my engine just quit???? Somehow I avoided smashing into other vehicles and roadside objects and made it safely to the side of the road from where I called my dad. The next call to my fiancé eventually got me a ride home where I actually had to sit awhile with a glass of wine still trembling from this almost fatal near accident I somehow avoided. Now that its been to 2 different mechanics who gave me the same answer, catastrophic engine failure due to lack of oil getting to critical internal engine parts (timing chain); I am now without my only car. The estimates for replacing its burnt up engine hover around $8,000 and with no reply from Stewart at the Dealership of Jeff Gordon, "there's no recall" that I was told by someone in service, apparently they don't care! The defective engine could have started on fire and its failure while driving with no warning, definitely could have killed me, and worse others in a multicar accident my dad added. My driving skills prevented that, somehow! I can only hope this terrible vehicle defect that the manufacturer doesn't care about, doesn't kill other people!
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. Additionally, there was a ticking sound occasionally coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the cam shaft solenoid sensors needed to be replaced. The camshaft solenoid sensors were replaced but the failure persisted. The local dealer and manufacturer were not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 72,000. Gm stated the warranty is not active as the time expired to be under warranty. The 6 year, 100,000 miles for the power train warranty,(which ever comes first expired) and the Bumper to Bumper warranty 4 years or 36,000 miles expired.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, there was an abnormally loud sound coming from the exhaust. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced rough idling with exhaust fumes inside the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the exhaust manifold was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.
My 2014 equinox is burning oil to the extent of 7 or more quarts a week. My specific vin isn’t covered in the Plugged PCV Orifice in Intake Manifold recall. I am filing a complaint as this is a safety issue and is a recall on same models and years with different vins.
Oil intake is bad burning too much oil.every 2000 miles or less oil needs to be topped off.this should be a recall the 11,12,13 equinox has be considered bad so should the 14.Terrible vehicle would never buy again or recommend. I have dealt with the dealership on this and I am Gm know this matter should be resolved. Now they want to take out the motor to replace piston.VERY disappointed customer!!
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, the speedometer and tachometer fluctuated, and the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. After several attempts to restart the vehicle, the vehicle restarted. The contact became aware that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact also stated that the engine oil level was very low and topped off the oil. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
The engine fails. It's still on the car so it can be inspected. In early stages the car lurches forward when at idle with the brake applied like waiting at a traffic light. It could lead to engine failure later on the road posing a collision danger if on a road when this happens. It has not been to a dealership yet for diagnosis so I can't answer if they have reproduced the effect or has been. inspected. There were No warning lights and no check engine light before this happens. I have reached out to other Equinox owners and forums and have found out this is a very real problem affecting many, many Equinox owners. GM is aware of the issue but hasn't taken any proactive steps to fix this design flaw.
The engine is burning oil at a extreme rate causing the oil to be low within a ridiculous amount of time.
Excessive oil consumption. I have to add oil every 3 weeks. No low oil light has ever appeared. This has been occurring since I purchased it in Oct. 2022. The April date is incorrect, but I cannot change it on the date part of the form. The correct date of the incident is Oct 22.
After taking excellent care of this vehicle with regular oil changes, the car suddenly had engine failure on the highway. Was luckily able to pull over. Turned vehicle off then on and car was in safety mode to get to mechanic. This was 2022. Addressed rear main seal at a cost of 1900$. Then in march of 2023 vehicle suddenly was leaking excess oil. PCV orifice is plugged and it was cleaned. Pressure test and found that it was producing 7 pounds of pressure instead of 2! Now we need to replace engine! This definitely a safety issue and I am concerned that there has not been a recall. This could have resulted in a crash on the highway or a engine fire!
The dealer service that repaired the vehicle said the positive crank ventilation system (PCV) froze up and there was no where for the pressure to go so it blew out the rear seal. General Motors knows about the problem because they sent out a service bulletin No. 14882. It is a recurring problem with the 2.4 L engine. The car started making a loud noise and we made it home but oil just started spraying out underneath. Thankfully we weren't strand on the side of the road. 4 quarts of oil leaked out on our garage floor. We had a sensor replaced in November and the light stayed out for awhile this happened around January 28th and it was very cold that day. We do have the receipt from the repair, it cost over $2500.00. Now more dash lights came on, the service department said it's the link assembly rear stabilizer shaft and also the antilock brake system. We have no All Wheel Drive! The car is sitting in the garage!
My son was driving down the road and the engine just quit running. Had it towed over 200 miles. Our mechanic looked at it and said that the timing chain had broke.
My rear main seal blew out and leaked all my oil out of my engine, due to my PCV being clogged or frozen, causing it to lose power and knock really loud. There was no warning light for the pressure build up or for low oil until it blew out the seal. This could of caused me an accident on the highway at 65mph if the engine had locked up due to no oil. There is a special service bulletin for the issue that states the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) may become clogged or frozen in extreme cold, causing a build up of pressure, leaking oil and causing the rear main seal to fail. Repairs for my vehicle were for the rear main seal replacement, cleaning my PCV system and replacing the oil, all done at the dealership. This really can be a dangerous situation when it happens and could cause the engine to turn off without warning. This PCV should be a recall if it continuously gets clogged just by normal usage. Temperatures were at zero degrees on the 12/25/2022 and 12/26/2022, so mine was definitely frozen.
I was driving and the vehicle suddenly seemed sluggish. No warning came on the dash regarding oil pressure and the car began shaking wildly. I quickly pulled over still no warnings. I turned off the engine and had the car towed. I had it looked at and was told there was no oil in the car (I have regular oil changes) and that a faulty PVC valve was the culprit. I received no warning that the oil was running low in the car. There were never any oil spots in my driveway indicating a leak, this all happened suddenly as I was driving and now my engine needs replaced.
Sudden engine failure at 120, 500 miles no warning signs on 2/7/2023
Something wrong with the fueling system, and have a really bad oil leak, and the car burns oil so fast it’s ridiculous. We’re always having to add oil to the car, atleast a qt at a time.
The engine oil evaporates. vehicle hesitates and backfire all symptom started at 125,000. was told I need a new engine.
Unknown froze up and couldn’t allow oil to go through and blew out valve cover and all the oil came out . There were 6 equinox in Tiffin area with the same issue !!!
The motor is burning oil excessively. The motor jumped time causing the top end to have to be replaced. There are many reported complaints regarding the 2014 Chevy Equinox 2.4L engine burning oil excessively. There is clearly a severe malfunction with the operation of the engine and causing oil to be burned excessively. The motor burning oil quickly can cause the motor to abruptly seize, causing sudden loss of vehicle control. After having the top end replaced, the motor is still burning oil excessively which is causing a serious risk of engine malfunction and inherent harm to the operator of the vehicle.
Bought vehicle used from a dealership in Feb 2021. Day after bringing home, service engine light came on and it was determined the catalytic converter needed replacing. Dealer replaced. Problems have persisted entire time we have owned it. Had to have front wheel bearing replaced, rear brakes replaced (routine), Service engine light has persistently been on, goes through a quart of oil a week at least, had to replace solonoids this past November and within about 3-4 weeks of doing that, the timing chain went out and the engine died while husband was driving it. Luckily he was on a rural road, but he was going around a 25 mph curve on a somewhat steep hill, which could have been bad had the roads been icy, as they often are in December in Michigan. Vehicle was towed to independent mechanic, where it was determined that the issue was the timing chain and that it could cost $2,500-3,000 for timing chain repair, or upwards of $5,000 for replacement engine. Neither costs are doable for us and this is my husband's vehicle for getting back and forth to work.
Vehicle is constantly consuming oil with no indicator or warning to show up. Was told by a mechanic that equinox is notorious for this and to continuously add oil between changes. I've also had major mechanical issues where the vehicle stalls and cuts out and puts itself into safe mode, immediately slowing the car and reducing power. I've had it in and out of the mechanic several times and have read forum after forum of multiple equinoxes having the same issues. Chevy should at the very least place a recall on the oil consumption, but should also be held responsible for their faulty engines. I've had the same codes, even after repairs, constantly popping up.
The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was running rough. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain had fractured, and the fractured pieces had damaged the engine pushrod. The dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
On October 3rd 2021 I had changed the oil on my car as normal maintenance. On October 30th I had the oil checked again as preventative maintenance since my war was acting up. On November 1, 2021 My car would not start. After examination by my mechanic. He started the the engine was not working anymore. I had replaced the timing chain and silonoids replaced on the engine within one year prior to the engine being inoperable. There needs to be a recall on this engine. I almost ended up in a major auto accident when it stalled out and died.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, she heard an abnormal sound before the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that due to insufficient oil in the engine, the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle had received an oil change in January 2022 and the failure occurred three months later. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 205,000.
The engine failed leaving me sit on the side of the road needing a tow. Upon having the vehicle looked over, the mechanic indicated that this is the 3rd Equinox/GM/Chevrolet model within days that has failed. A local Chevrolet dealer was not available to look at my vehicle this week due to all the motor/engine issues coming in. My vehicle was inoperable leaving me on the side of the road. Myself and the tow truck driver could have been hit. The vehicle cut out and did not have any engine power leaving me to drift. Luckily I was not on a highway or busier street where I could have blocked traffic or caused an accident. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by the service center. It is unknown if they have any other representative inspect it. There was no other vehicles involved so no police were called. I was able to get out of the way of traffic. This is very dangerous to have engines failing without warning. No service engine or low oil or any other indicator of problem light came on when it happened nor leading up to it.
Car consumes oil at an alarming rate. Fuel system is constantly inoperable and needs fixing. Car is not made up to standards of safety
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the resonator. The contact stated that the failure persisted and the vehicle started chugging while driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle warranty was expired. The failure mileage was 159,000.
I have to get the engine pistons replaced at 115,000 miles. The car has consistently been over consuming oil and I have had to top it off with new oil every 500 miles or so. I had it happen twice where the vehicle lost all power while I was driving (one of which in the middle of an intersection), and I had to completely turn of the car and turn it back on. My vehicle seems to have the same engine as the 2010-2013 Equinox’s that has been recalled for the exact same reason. Replacing all the engine positions and other parts is going to be $5,000, and this seems like the 2014 Equinox needs to be added to the class action lawsuit that addresses the same issue in earlier model Equinox’s. I have smelt burning oil and the initial issue that lead me to discover the problem was that my vehicle was idling at a high RPM and was having trouble shifting in low gears.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle lost motive power without warning. The contact stated that she was able to restart the vehicle without further failure. The contact also stated that after driving for a while, the vehicle was turned off however, the engine continued to run. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a fuel pump seal malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she was awaiting an appointment with the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
The engine had blown due to a oil consumption issue which is recognized by chevy but not recalled. I had no idea this was a issue, or i would have checked in between oil changes
LOSING OIL AND LOSING SPEED OIL WAS TWO QUARTS LOW AND NOT YET TIME FOR A OIL CHANGE
Got oil changed regularly in the car only to have my engine misfiring a month after having my oil changed. Took it in to get looked at and they told me there was next to no oil in the car and that my car was burning extra oil and that I was going to need a new engine. After one google search I have come to find that this problem is not uncommon and that there was a class action lawsuit, but only went up to year 2013, even though the issue did not stop with the 2013s.
While I was driving in the middle lane on the highway, the "reduced engine power" message appeared on the display. Then the car started to slow down immediately. I made my way over to pull off the highway and shut car off on side of the road. When I turned the car back on, the display read "Oil pressure low, shut engine off" . No noises were heard. I shut the car off. I had to have the vehicle towed to the Chevy dealership. They did a diagnostic evaluation and discovered the main oil seal had let go. Then told us we had to have the engine replaced or rebuilt. This was the only way to fix the vehicle.
Excessive oil consumption leading to engine failure. Timing chain had to be replace once already . Now I have to top off my oil once every 500 miles.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed of low oil level and engine failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Excessive oil consumption leading to engine problems, causing car to stall intermittently and unexpectedly. CAM shaft actuator repaired/ replaced 4 times in one year. Car has stopped in busy intersections.
In summer of 2021, the car was making a noise when driving, then it started lurching forward when stopped at a light or stop sign with foot on pedal. Took it to dealer and they said the timing belt needed to be replaced, which I had them replace. A few months later, same thing was happening so I took it back and was told that the problem now was that the engine was burning oil and I needed to check the oil every 1000 miles. I have since driven it less than 4000 miles and have had to put 3 quarts of oil in car. I understand that GM issued letters to 2013 Equinox owners about this problem but not 2014 owners. Based on reading the complaints in this website, I think its safe to say that its a problem with the 2014 models as well.
Recently the "check engine light came on, scheduled the car for service at the local GM dealership. The car only has 67700 miles on it, and the timing belt needs to be replaced. I believe this is ridiculous, this shouldn't be an issuse at all. The cost to repair the timing chain with labor is arounf the 2k mark. I understand this to be a problem with this engine type, and was advised to submit a complaint.
The rear oil seal busted and was losing oil, which as you know if your out and about and this happens it can damage or lock up your engine. And GM sent out a service bulletin about this problem but won’t cover my repair because our Vin# doesn’t show up,but it clearly says 2010-2014 Chevy Equinox .
1. Malfunction: engine assembly consumes oil. yes can be inspected 2.Safety; engine could seize while driving and cause an accident because of power fire and vehicle coming to an abrupt stop. 3. NO, but the manufacturer did settle a lawsuit due to the same problem on previous year models. Engine components were found to be of poor quality causing premature failure. 4. When checking oil. oil was low. Oil becomes burnt very quickly. Also oil consumption is beyond belief. consumed 2 quarts of oil from Williams Az. to Los New Mexico approximately 350-360 miles. The problem has become more severe over time.
My 2014 Equinox is going through engine oil so frequently. I have to put at least a quart in every time I fuel up. My oil light that indicates when I am low on oil never comes on. It never warns me that I am low and I first figured it out after my engine started to make a clicking noise when I had my engine oil changed only 3 weeks before that and I had no oil left in my vehicles engine. It does not leak the oil as I never have a puddle under my car. It does not burn it out the exhaust. This is a huge issue and safety concern as it can potentially damage my engine causing more money worth of damage than the vehicle itself is worth and leaving me stranded on the side of the road and without a vehicle is not okay, especially with children potentially being stranded. If my car were to break down due to this issue then I am a sitting duck on the side of the Highway/freeway for other cars to potentially hit me.
My engine currently burns a large amount of oil and I consistently have to refill it. I see this is a common problem with the 2014 Chevy Equinox with the 4 cylinder, 2.4 liter engine and I feel should constitute a recall. The only alternative would be I must pay for my engine to be replaced.
While driving the vehicle at about 30 miles an hour it stalled. Engine just shut off, but restarted. Then at the next stop light it stalled out again, but restarted. I was about 2 miles from a place I could pull over, when I did pull over, the car would not start again. Had to have it towed to a repair shop, where I was told that I needed a whole new engine. The check engine light never came on, in fact no lights every came on to indicate an issue of any kind. I got my oil changes regularly. This is not safe vehicle. Two different repair shops have looked at the vehicle. Both are in agreement that there is no compression left in the engine. Both repair shops have told me that they have repaired at least 8-15 Chevy's with this same issue. After investigating this issue, it seems to be KNOWN one. Not sure why Chevy isn't standing by their product.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH and coming to a stop at a stop sign, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled in the middle of the street. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle started shuddering while driving. The vehicle then stalled without warning. The contact continued driving to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned that the vehicle was consuming oil and causing the failure of the engine. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My engine light has come on twice. The car feel like it wants to shut off. When I turn the car off it shakes.
The contact owned a 2014 Chevrolet equinox. The contact stated that while driving and turning into her driveway, the check engine warning light illuminated an abnormal sound was heard coming from the vehicle. The contact turned off the vehicle. The following day, the contact’s mother inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was no oil in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the timing chain had a fracture and the engine needed to be replaced. The local dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The vehicle was not drivable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 169,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR MADE A CLANGING SOUND, THEN I LOOKED AT MY DASH AND IT SAID THE MOTOR WAS SLOWING DOWN. SO II GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND STOPPED. CALLED THE WRECKER AND WHEN IT WAS BEING PUT ON THE TRUCK WAS WHEN I SAW THE OIL UNDER IT. WHILE WAITING FOR HELP I CONTACTED THE ONSTAR SYSTEM THEY RAN A DIO FOR MY TROUBLE, BUT IT ONLY CAME BACK AS "HAVE IT SERVICES SOON". THE DEALER SAID THE PVC HAD STUCK AND BLEW THE MOTOR, IT WOULD COST 7000.00+ TO REPLACE THE MOTOR. AND WOULD NOT BUY IT AGAINST A NEW CAR PURCHASE.
I KEEP PUTTING OIL IN MY CAR LIKE IT'S GAS. I'M USING 1 QUART FOR EVERY FILL UP. WHICH IS A LOT AND IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND NO WARNING SIGNAL OF LOW OIL BURNS 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 2 WEEKS
ENGINES ARE BURNING TO MUCH OIL CAUSING THE ENGINE TO NEED TO BE REPLACED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY DOWN SHIFTED WITH A LOUD SOUND. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER - COAD CHEVROLET (517 S KINGS HIGHWAY, CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO 63703, 573-335-5581) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. CAR RUNS OUT OF OIL BEFORE OIL CHANGE IS DUE.
SAME PROBLEM AS BULLETIN 14882 DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY NO WARNING LIGHT ENGINE STARTED RATTLING CAR SMOKE LOST POWER CAR DIED OIL EVERYWHERE PCV VALVE FROZE DUE TO EXCESSION ENGINE OIL BURNING AND BLEW THE ENGINE $2300 DOLLARS LATER SUPPOSEDLY FIXED MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN RT SINCE FILED COMPLAINT WITH CHEVY I WAS TOLD MY VIN NOT NOT PART OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN I HAVE READ THE SAME ISSSUE OVER AND OVER I CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP TODAY 3.24.21 STILL HAVING ISSUES WILL NEVER BUY CHEVY AGAIN
VEHICLE HAS 55000 MILES AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. IN SCANNING THE CAR I WAS TOLD THAT P0010 THE INTAKE POSITIONS ACTUATOR CIRCUIT AND P0013 EXHAUST CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR CIRCUIT NEEDED TO BE SERVICED TO THE TUNE OF BETWEEN 1200.00 AND 1500.00 DOLLARS WHICH IS NORMAL FOR THESE CARS I. THINK THIS IS BS I HAVE OIL CHANGED EVERY 2000 MILES OR 3 MONTHS WITH CASTROL DEXOS 5W30 AND LUCAS OIL STABILIZER. SOUNDS LIKE THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY YHE MANUFACTURER.
MY CAR HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS BULLETIN 14882 STATES. ON A DAY IT WAS 0 DEGREES MY CAR STARTED SMOKING AND THE ENGINE STARTED RATTLING. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AND SAW OIL COMING OUT BETWEEN THE MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION. BULLETIN 14882 STATES THAT 2010 THRU 2014 EQUINOX CARS WITH THE 2.4 ECOTEC HAVE THIS PROBLEM DUE TO FROZEN PCV VALVE AND THE MOTOR BUILDING UP PRESSURE BLOWING OUT THE REAR MAIN SEAL. MY CAR HAS 80,000 MILES ON IT. THE BULLETIN STATES THAT CARS UNDER 10 YERS OLD OR UNDER 120,000 MILES IS TO BE COVERED. CHEVEROLET SAYS MY VIN IS NOT IN THIS RECALL. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY 10 MINUTES AFTER LEAVING MY HOUSE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE CAR IS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AND HAD TO BE TOWED.
I STAR HEARING AS QUICK NOISE IN THE ENGINE AND AFTER A DAY THE ENGEEN IS NO LONGER GOOD ,I I'M PAYING A MECHANIC TO REPLACE ENGINE
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A RURAL ROAD IN COLD TEMPS MY ENGINE STARTED TO LEAK OIL AFTER HEARING A POP AND CAUSING MY ENGINE TO LEAK ALL THE OIL OUT OF IT
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT FLASHED, FOLLOWED BY THE OIL LIGHT AND THEN IT STARTED ALARMING, I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED. THIS HAPPENED ON ONE OF THE FRIGID CHICAGO DAYS. IT WAS DIAGNOSED PVC VALVE FROZE WHICH CAUSED VACUUM PRESSURE THAT CAUSED REAR MAIN SEAL TO HAVE MAJOR OIL LEAK. MY ENGINE WAS RUINED.
CHEVROLET EQUINOX HAS AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF OIL CONSUMPTION. EVERY 1,500 MILES OR LOWER IT HAS TO BE REPLACED WITH MORE OIL, AT LEAST A 1 QUART TO 2 BECAUSE IT GETS SO LOW SO FAST.
NO OIL IN VEHICLE. NO OIL LIGHT WARNING. DID NOT START. TOWED TO CHEVY DEALER THEY REPLACED TIMING CHAIN AND OIL LOSS ISSUE NEVER SOLVED. WAS RECOMMENDED TO SPEAK TO SENIOR ADVISORS. BUT ALL THEY EVER SAY IS THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD NO RECALLS. WHEN CHECKING DIFFERENT WEBSITES I FIND THIS IS A BIG ISSUE WITH EQUINOX'S FROM 2014-2017. WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW THEY DRAW THE LINE ON WHAT GETS RECALLED AND WHAT DOESN'T. THIS VEHICLE FALLS WITHIN THE PARAMETERS AND YEARS THAT GM HAD THIS PROBLEM. CAN'T GET ANY ANSWERS FROM THEM. I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED. GREW UP AND ALWAYS HAD A GM AUTO. THIS WILL BE OUR LAST.
ENGINE WAS BURNING OIL AT AN ALARMING RATE, WAS STARTING TO STALL WHENEVER THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHILE IN DRIVE, AND WAS LOUDER THAN NORMAL. SENT VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THE PVC MANIFOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WAS ALSO TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE TOTAL COST WAS $812.00 WITH PARTS AND LABOR TO REPLACE. THE CAR HAS UNDER 100K MILES AND APPARENTLY GM WILL NOT COVER THE COST IN ANYWAY. WAS ALSO TOLD THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE CAUSED MY ENGINE TO BLOW IF NOT CAUGHT IN ENOUGH TIME.
PCV VALVE FAILED; ALLOWED PRESSURE BUILD UP IN CRANK CASE WHICH THEN BLEW THE REAR MAIN SEAL. $1,600 BILL FOR THIS. A LOOK ONLINE SHOWS THIS HAPPENS REPEATEDLY ON THIS VEHICLE, BUT NO RECALL ISSUED BY MANUFACTURER AND NO COMPENSATION FOR THE REPAIRS
2.4L 4CYL. MOTOR RAN OUT OF OIL, NO OIL ON DIP STICK. NO LOW OIL LIGHT OR PRESSURE NOTIFICATION AND UNDER RECOMMENDED MILEAGE FOR OIL CHANGE. PCV TUBE TO AIR INTAKE FILLED WITH MILKY OIL. REFLECTS ISSUE FOR 2010-2013 MODELS. THE ISSUE WAS FOUND AFTER STALLING AT STOP LIGHT ON BUSY STATE ROAD.
2014 MODEL YEAR CHEVY EQUINOX. MY CAR WAS PRODUCED IN 9-2013, AND HAS HAD CONTINUOUS HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION SINCE PURCHASE. EVERY FEW WEEKS IT IS MAKING A LOUD NOISE AFTER START UP, AND I AM HAVING TO ADD OIL (3 QTS YESTERDAY OF THE 5W-30 DEXRON OIL AS LISTED ON THE CAP).
I WON A 2014 CHEVY EQUINOX AND I STARTED TO SMELL EXHAUST BUT MY CAR PASSED EMISSIONS. FOUND OUT LATER THIS ENGINE IS KNOWN FOR CRACKING IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. NOW MY VEHICLES ENGINE IS REALLY LOUD, THE SMELL OF EXHAUST IS REALLY BAD WHEN IDLING AND DRIVING, ALSO NOW MY KIDS AND MYSELF ARE HAVE BREATHING PROBLEMS. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR MY FAMILIES SAFETY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A TRAIL OF OIL IN HER REARVIEW MIRROR. ADDITIONALLY, THERE WAS OIL ON THE DRIVEWAY PAVEMENT OF HER RESIDENCE. NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SHAKOPEE CHEVROLET INC (1206 1ST AVE E, SHAKOPEE, MN 55379, (952) 955-6285) TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PCV MANIFOLD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS STILL PENDING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE CONTACT MENTIONED MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATION NUMBER: 14882 (ENGINE) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING UP HILL AT 55 MPH, THERE WAS A LOAD HUMMING SOUND AND THERE WAS ALSO A HESITATION IN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WEST-HERR CHEVROLET OF ORCHARD PARK (3575 SOUTHWESTERN BLVD, ORCHARD PARK, NY 14127, (716) 662-9775) HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE A FAULT CODE. THE DEALER ESCALATED THE CASE TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO HAD THE CASE SENT TO A SENIOR REPRESENTATIVE. THE CONTACT ALSO SENT A VIDEO OF THE FAILURE TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED THAT THE TECHNICIAN AND SERVICE MANAGER PERFORM A ROAD TEST TO TRY TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO COOPERATE AND THE MANUFACTURER CLOSED OUT THE CASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
GM HAD A LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST THEM FOR THE 2010 - 2013 CHEVY EQUINOX FOR EXCESSIVELY BURNING OIL IN 2.4 ENGINE. THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM WITH EQUINOX. I HAVE CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AT GM AND ALL THEY DID WAS REFER ME TO THE DEALER WHICH I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE REGULAR OIL CHANGE ON 11/6/20 - MILAGE ON VEHICLE IS 111144. I REPORTED HEARING A RATTLE SOUND. IT WAS DETERMINE THAT THE TIMING CHAINS WERE LOOSE AND THE TENSIONER FOR THE CHAIN IS MAXED OUT. THEY CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL AND FOUND THERE IS NO OIL ON THE STICK. FILLED WITH 3 QUARTS OF OIL BEFORE OIL WOULD SHOW ON THE STICK. THEY DETERMINED ENGINE IS EXCESSIVELY BURNING OIL AND WILL NEED THE PISTON RINGS AND ENGINE CHAINS REPLACED TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE OIL LEVELS WEEKLY. I JUST WENT ON VACATION AND OIL LEVEL WAS FINE WHEN WE LEFT. BEFORE RETURNING HOME, I HAD TO PUT A QUART OF OIL IN THE CAR -- THIS IS ONLY AFTER DRIVING 1441 FROM THE LAST OIL CHANGE. ALSO, SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR USED, THERE HAS BEEN A RATTLE ON START UP. I PREVIOUSLY LOCATED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT STATED IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE GASKET AROUND THE OIL PAN UNTIL THE OIL STARTS FLOWING. THE OTHER THING THAT I HAVE FOUND IS WHEN I AM STOPPED, THE CAR WILL ACT THAT IT IS GOING TO ACCELERATE SO I MUST GO INTO NEUTRAL UNTIL IT IS TIME TO DRIVE AGAIN.
THE MOTOR IS CONSUMING A LOT OF OIL AND IT'S NOT GIVING A WARNING WHEN OIL IS LOW
I HAVE A 2.4 LT ECOTEC ENGINE. MY CAR IS EXPERIENCING OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. EVERY WEEK TO TWO WEEKS OIL IS ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE FROM ENGINE. OIL LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON. O LY WARNING SIGN THERE IS AN ISSUE IS THE CAR STARTS KNOCK AND HESITATING THIS USUALLY HAPPENS ON START UP AND WHEN IN IDLE. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR AND NOW FOUND THIS IS A LAWSUIT REGARDING THESE ENGINES THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE MY YEAR BUT I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES.
GOES THROUGH OIL LIKE NO TOMORROW. I JUST GOT AN OIL CHANGE LAST MONTH. IT'S AT 73% OIL LIFE AND MY ENGINE IS STARTING TO MAKE NOISE FROM NO OIL. I AM COMPLETELY OUT OF OIL. MY ENGINE IS LOUD WHEN YOU TURN IT ON AND YOU CAN HEAR THE GEARS HITTING EACH OTHER FROM NO OIL. I FEEL LIKE ONE OF THESE DAYS I'LL TURN ON MY CAR AND MY ENGINE BLOWS UP. I ALSO DID SOME RESEARCH AND I SEE THEY'VE BEEN SUED FOR THIS PROBLEM AND NOTHING WAS EVER DONE. I GOT MY CAR LOOKED AT AND THERE IS NO OIL LEAKS. IT'S ALSO DAMAGE MY ENGINE FROM GOING THROUGH SO MUCH OIL IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
ENGINE IS EXPERIENCING HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION (1 QT EVERY 500 MILES OR LESS). SAME PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED IN SERVICE BULLETIN 14882 ALTHOUGH THEY SAY THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY ENGINE. SERVICE BULLETIN ALSO STATES 2010-2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX WHICH MY VEHICLE IS A 2014 EQUINOX.
HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION AND TIMING CHAIN. PUTTING IN 1-2 QUARTS AN OIL EACH WEEK TO OIL BURNING. WHICH LED TO THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED REPLACED A SECOND TIME WHEN THE TIMING CHAIN WENT OUT AGAIN DUE TO THE HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION. EACH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WE HAVE BEEN IN MOTION BOTH IN TOWN AND ON THE HIGHWAY.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TWICE IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS, MOST RECENT REPAIR WAS JUNE 20, 2020, BOTH DURING A RAIN EVENT. REPLACED PLASTIC BALL JOINTS TWICE, FAILED TODAY JULY 8, 2020. SECOND COMPLAINT, EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION, 3 QUARTS LOW AND NEVER SET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES, VEHICLE HAS 98K MILES
THE FIRST YEAR I OWNED THIS VEHICLE, THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS NORMAL. AFTER THE FIRST YEAR, IT WENT THROUGH OIL LIKE CRAZY. I GET OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000 MILES, AND IT WAS NEAR DRY WHEN I WOULD BRING IT BACK IN. MY MECHANIC BEGAN TELLING ME TO STOP IN AFTER ABOUT 1000-1500 MILES TO GET IT TOPPED OFF. WHICH WAS DONE, BUT THEN I BEGAN HAVING CHUGGING HAPPEN. I WAS TOLD THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE'S OIL CONSUMPTION AND WOULD CONTINUE TO GET WORSE. IT DEFINITELY GOT WORSE UNTIL THE MOTOR DIED. NOW I HAVE TO REBUILD A MOTOR OR SCRAP THE CAR. THE ENGINE RECALL SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED MY CAR.
MY VEHICLE IS LEAKING OIL, ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND LARGE OIL SPOTS BELOW.. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR FOR FEAR WE WILL BLOW THE REAR MAIN OIL SEAL. THE ISSUE IS THOUGHT TO BE THE PCV VALVE. I LOOKED UP MY COMPLAINT THAT I WAS HAVING ON THE INTERNET AND CAME ACROSS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM NUMEROUS (A HECK OF A LOT) OF PEOPLE AND FOUND GM BULLETIN NUMBER 14882 THAT SPECIFIES THE SAME COMPLAINT THAT I HAD. I BROUGHT THIS UP TO THE MANUFACTURING COMPANY AND THEY EXPLAIN TO ME THAT THIS BULLETIN IS VIN SPECIFIC AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY NOT WHEN IT'S THE SAME ENGINE, YEAR.. ETC. ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE (WHO I HAVE READ COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT IT) WHO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE ARE BEING TOLD THE SAME THING....VIN NOT COVERED. IF ALL THESE VEHICLES ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WHY ARE THEY SAYING NOT COVERED? I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO DO WHAT THE OTHERS DID AND FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB. I CAN NOT UPLOAD A PHOTO, MY VEHICLE STILL SITS AT THE GM REPAIR SHOP. *TR
MY CAR RUNS ROUGH AND SHUTS OFF WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING AT STOP SIGNS AND RED LIGHTS. MY CAR HAS 112,000 MILES AND WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 100,000. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CODE IS P0010. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY BIG PROBLEM FOR THE EQUINOX AND THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THE OLDER MODELS HAVE RECALLS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT CHEVERLET SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR.
ON 2/26/20 IN THE MORNING, THE CAR WAS PARKED WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON AND THE ENGINE RATTLE LOUDLY. I TURNED OFF IMMEDIATELY. MY HUSBAND WAS WITH ME AND ASKED ME TO TURN IT ON AGAIN. THIS TIME IT ONLY MADE LOUD NOISES BUT IT DID NOT TURN ON. IT WAS TOWED 2 DAYS LATER TO A MECHANIC IN FINKSBURG, MD. HE SAID THE ENGINE WAS DESTROYED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC AND US HAD OBSERVED THAT WHEN THE CAR REACHED 125K MILES, THE OIL CONSUMPTION INCREASED AND HAD TO BE REFILLED ON A WEEKLY BASIS. BEFORE THE ENGINE BROKE, THE CAR WAS WORTH ABOUT $4K. THE MECHANIC SAYS IT WILL BE $8K TO $8,500 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I, OF COURSE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY AND NOW I DON'T HAVE A CAR. THERE SHOULD BE AN ENGINE RECALL ON THE GM 2014 CHEVY EQUINOX. IT'S UNCONSCIONABLE THAT GM HAS SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THEIR EQUINOX ENGINES AND THEY KEEP SELLING THEM. I HOPE I CAN JOIN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT EVEN IF IT TAKES YEARS TO FORCE GM TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR FRAUDULENT PRACTICES THAT CAUSE SUCH HARDSHIP AND EMOTIONAL DISTRESS TO US TRUSTING CONSUMERS.
WAS OUT OF TOWN FOR THE WEEKEND. I WAS DRIVING IT AND WHEN I WOULD PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL THE ENGINE SEEMED TO "SPUTTER" NOW AND AGAIN. AS I PULLED INTO MY DESTINATION (THANKFULLY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY OR A BRIDGE) MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF AND WAS ABLE TO GLIDE INTO THE PARKING LOT. I GOT OUT I LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND ALL OF THE OIL WAS JUST DUMPING OUT OF THE CAR LIKE A FAUCET. WITH MY SON BEING WITH ME AND BEING OUT OF TOWN I FIGURED I WOULD GET IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC TO ASSES THE SITUATION. THEY BELIEVED THE ISSUE WAS THE PCV ISSUE IN BULLETIN #14882. I WENT WITHOUT THE CAR FOR 2 WEEKS. THEY DID THE BEST THEY COULD AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT BACK HOME. THERE IS STILL AN ENGINE LEAD HOWEVER. I CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE BULLETIN AND THE PERSON THERE SAID THAT MY VIN IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE BULLETIN. I WAS SURPRISED. ONLY 80,000 ON THE CAR TOO. SHE SAID I SHOULD OF TAKEN IT TO THE NEAREST DEALER - HOWEVER ON A SATURDAY NIGHT MOST OF THEM ARE NOT OPEN - NOR WAS I FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA.
MY VEHICLE WAS RUNNING HORRIBLE FOR A FEW WEEKS , THEN NOTICED REAL BAD OIL LEAK . DROPPED VEHICLE OFF AT DEALER WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A BLOCKED PCV VALVE CAUSING MY REAR MAIN OIL SEAL TO PUSH OUT . HAD ALL THE WORK DONE , PLUS OTHER WORK DEALER RECOMMENDED. AFTER THE FACT I LOOKED UP MY COMPLAINT THAT I WAS HAVING ON THE INTERNET AND CAME ACROSS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND FOUND GM BULLETIN NUMBER 14882 THAT SPECIFIES THE SAME COMPLAINT THAT I HAD. I BROUGHT THIS UP TO THE MANUFACTURING COMPANY AND THEY EXPLAIN TO ME THAT THIS BULLETIN IS VIN SPECIFIC AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED . CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY NOT WHEN IT'S THE SAME ENGINE , YEAR .. ETC
I WAS PARKING MY CAR AND IT LURCHED FORWARD ABOUT 2 INCHES. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WENT INTO WORK. WHEN I CAME BACK OUTSIDE 5 HOURS LATER, ALL THE ENGINE OIL HAD LEAKED OUT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. IT HAS BEEN TOWED TO MY HOUSE AND HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY EVER SINCE. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY CAR. I DO OIL CHANGES AND ANY OTHER MAINTENANCE ISSUES ALL IN A TIMELY MANNER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS WIFE WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE CAUSE TO BE AN OVER PRESSURIZED PCV CRANK CASE WHICH CAUSED THE SEALS TO BLOWOUT AND DESTROY THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT'S WIFE WAS LEFT STRANDED. THE CONTACT EXPLAINED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED BEFORE THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE MANUFACTURER FAILED TO OFFER A RESOLUTION FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO APPLE CHEVROLET BUICK NORTHFIELD (1600 CANNON LN, NORTHFIELD, MN 55057, (507) 645-5619), TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,844.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE OF AN OIL LEAK UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO (HWY 34 AUTO SALES, 619 1ST ST E, PARK RAPIDS, MN 56470 (218) 536-0771) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND DETERMINED THE REAR MAIN SEAL BLEW WHICH CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN TO FRACTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT SUBJECTED TO A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
DUE TO IT HAPPENING TO ME AND FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN RESEARCHING NOW MY CARS ENGINE WAS BLOWN DUE TO THE LACK OF OIL AND THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE IS PRONE TO HAVE AN EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION OF OIL. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND STARTED HEARING A KNOCKING SOUND I PARKED THE CAR. TOOK THE PLASTIC STUFF OFF THE TOP AND FOUND NO OIL IN MY ENGINE AFTER HAVING A OIL CHANGE NOT TO LONG AGO. SO I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED AND I STILL OWE ON THE CAR
CAR WAS RUNNING FINE, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, CALLED DEALERSHIP, SCHEDULED APPT, DROVE IN TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. CALLED ME AND SAID THAT MY TIMING BELT WAS LOOSE AND THAT THERE WAS SHREDDED METAL THROUGHOUT, NOT ADVISED TO REBUILD OR DRIVE AS IT WAS VERY UNSAFE THAT I EVEN DROVE IT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. NEEDED WHOLE NEW ENGINE WHICH COST MORE THAN WHAT VEHICLE IS WORTH. VEHICLE HAD JUST CROSSED 100,000, NO OTHER WARNING SIGNS. SERVICED REGULARLY, NO ISSUES NOTED WITH ENGINE PRIOR TO THIS OCCASION.
MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING.THE ROADSIDE ASST PERSON TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY.I GOT THE BATTERY.I GOT THE NEW BATTERY IT WAS OK AFTER A WEEK.SO I TOOK IT TO MY MACHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE MOTOR WAS NO GOOD.I NEED MY CAR CAUSE I GO TO CHEMO.THE NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN I WAS HEARING A KNOCKING SOUND.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE REAR ENGINE SEAL BLEW OUT AND WITHIN A FEW MINUTES (UNKNOWINGLY MY ENGINE DRAINED COMPLETELY OF OIL) AND BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER 2 LANES THE DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE SNAPPING CONNECTING ROD AND DAMAGING AN ENTIRE CYLINDER. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF THIS ISSUE AND I FEAR THAT IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN DRIVING WITH MY TWO CHILDREN UNDER 4 THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. I WAS ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE SLIGHT NOISE AT FIRST THAT PROGRESSIVELY GOT LOUDER, BUT COULD SEE MY WIFE IGNORING IT LONG ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN ISSUE. THIS IS EXTREMELY SCARY TO ME AND AT 111K THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. GM OFFERED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE REPAIR AT LESS THAN A 1/3 OF THE COST AND COULD NOT GET ANY EXPLANATION WHY IT IS DIFFERENT FROM BULLETIN 14882 THAT DESCRIBES THE EXACT ISSUE THAT MY CAR HAD.
HAVE HAD ONGOING OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. REPLACED SOLENOIDS, CAM SHAFT ACUATORS, ADDED OIL ALL THE TIME. CAR BURNS OVER 4 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 5000 MILES. TOOK TODAY TO DEALER FOR OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, CAR BURNED 3-4 QUARTS IN LAST 1300 MILES. CAR LITERALLY DIED THERE AFTER THEY DID TEST AND PUT OIL IN (WOULD NOT RESTART) WAS TOLD TIMING CHAIN AND PISTONS (AT LEAST) WOULD NEED REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $3400 AT LEAST. IF ENGINE NEEDS COMPLETE REDO OVER $5000. THIS ISSUE WAS PREVALENT ON ALL CHEVY EQUINOX MODEL YEARS 2010-2-13 WITH THIS ISSUE. THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THEM AND SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS ERE GIVEN TO THESE OWNERS WITH THIS ISSUE. I AM BEING TOLD 2014 (WIT EXACTLY SAME MOTOR AND SAME ISSUES ) IS NOT COVERED BY GM. A SIMPLE ONLINE SEARCH YIELDS SIGNIFCANT DATA DESCRIBING EXACT SAME ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE (2014 CHEVY EQUINOX) WITH THE 2.4 LITER 4 CYLINDER MOTOT. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING IN MY CAR FOR OVER 2-3 YEARS. IT FIONALLY KILLED MY MOTOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
IN THE WINTER OF 2018 AFTER ABOUT A YEAR OF OWNING THIS VEHICLE, I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE. THESE ECOTEC ENGINES ARE AFFECTED BY OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS, GM KNEW ABOUT THIS AND DIDN'T DECIDE TO DO A RECALL OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. THE ENGINE STARTED TO MAKE THIS GROWLING OR GRINDING NOISE IN THE ENGINE, IT WOULD STALL ON ME WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR STOPLIGHT. THE ENGINE SEIZED ON ME WHEN I WAS BEGINNING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AT NIGHT DURING A SNOWSTORM. THANKFULLY THERE WEREN'T REALLY ANY OTHERS DRIVING ON THE ROAD DURING THAT TIME. I HAD TO GET A NEW ENGINE DROPPED IN THE FOLLOWING MONTH OF FEBRUARY IN 2019. AS TIME WENT ON AND I DROVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE NEW ENGINE, AS OF RECENTLY I'M BEGINNING TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME SYMPTOMS OF WHICH I WAS HAVING BEFORE WHEN IT FIRST WENT OUT. IT WOULD JERK WHEN I CAME TO A STOP, THE ENGINE WOUND STALL OUT BUT CUT RIGHT BACK ON, AND IT IDLED/IDLES ROUGHLY. IN ORDER TO STOP THE STALLING AND JERKING ISSUE I WOULD HAVE TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL THEN BACK INTO DRIVE SO I WON'T HOLD UP THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE, I NEVER KNOW WHEN THE ENGINE COULD GO OUT AS I'M DRIVING. GM KNEW ABOUT THESE ISSUES AND FAILED TO DO PROPER PROTOCOL. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. AND I'VE NOTICED I'M NOT THE ONLY AFFECTED BY THESE ISSUES.
ON JANUARY 21, 2019 MY 2014 CHEVY EQUINOX'S ENGINE FROZE. I LIVE IN MICHIGAN. IT WAS COLD. THE PRESSURE BUILT UP IN THE ENGINE AND FORCED THE REAR MAIN OIL SEAL OUT. I ENDED UP ALSO HAVING TO REPLACE MY TIMING CHAIN, MANIFOLD AND SEVERAL SENSORS. MY TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN THE SAME. GM ONLY ISSUES BULLETINS FOR CERTAIN VEHICLE NUMBERS BUT THEY ARE AWARE THAT THE ISSUE IS EFFECTING MANY MORE EQUINOX THAN ORIGINALLY THOUGHT. IN FACT, THEY SWITCHED THE ENGINE IN 2015 DUE TO THE DESIGN FLAW. GM SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE AND THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO NOTIFY ALL OWNERS OF A 2010-2014 CHEVY EQUINOX. RECALL14882 STATES MANY OF THE ISSUES CONCERNING THE 2010-2014 CHEVY EQUINOX WITH THE ECOTEC 2. 4L ENGINE. SOMETHING NEED TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. I TRAVEL OVER 25 MILES TO WORK. WHEN MY ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND EVERYTHING LOCKED UP, I WAS FORCED TO WAIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS FOR AAA TO GET A TOW TRUCK TO ME. MY HUSBAND RESCUED ME BEFORE I FROZE AS NOTHING WORKED IN MY TRUCK. SHAME ON GM AS I KNOW THIS TRUCK IS POPULAR FOR WOMEN AND MOTHERS. THANK GOD MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT WITH ME DURING THE INCIDENT. HOW DARE GM ALLOW US TO DRIVE AROUND IN A KNOWN FAULTY VEHICLE!
THE ENGINE HAS BEEN BURNING OIL. I GOT REGULAR OIL CHANGES AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME. THE ENGINE BURNED MORE THAN 4 QTS OF OIL EVERY 5000 MILES. I ADDED OIL AS I WENT, 4 OR MORE QTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. THIS PROBLEM CAUSED THE ENGINE TO ALWAYS BE RUNNING HOT. AFTER BEING TURNED AWAY BY CHEVY, MY MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO GET APPROVAL THROUGH CHEVY CORPORATE TO DO AN ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AFTER ITS NEXT OIL CHANGE WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THIS PAST MONDAY, 10/14/2019. AFTER THE TEST, CHEVY HAD AGREED TO COVER THE REPAIR. HOWEVER, ON SUNDAY 10/13/2019, MY CAR WOULDN'T START. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT DUE TO THE ENGINE BURNING OIL, CAUSING IT TO RUN HOT, THIS CAUSED THE TIMING CHAIN GUIDE (PLASTIC PART) TO BREAK, WHICH CAUSED ENOUGH DAMAGE AND DEBRIS TO WHERE THE WHOLE ENGINE NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THOUGH THE REASON THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IS DUE TO A KNOWN FLAW THAT THIS VEHICLES ENGINE BURNS OIL, CHEVY WON'T COVER IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL WHEN DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED, THE SERPENTINE BELT FRACTURED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DAN CUMMINS CHEVROLET BUICK (1020 M.L.K. JR BLVD, PARIS, KY 40361, 859-987-4345) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE WAS LEAKING OIL. THE CONTACT PAID $4,750.51 FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT WAS CHARGED A DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND HAD THE FRONT AND REAR CRANK SEAL, PCV PORT, EXHAUST VALVE, CONVERTER, AND SEVERAL OTHER PARTS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,012. *PM CONSUMER STATED DEALER HAS RECOMMENDED A SECOND REPAIR BUT CONSUMER WOULD NOT BE OBLIGATED TO PAY FOR IT.*JB
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND A LOT OF NOISE. STOPED CHECK ENGINE, OIL WAS LEAKING FROM HEADERS. NOW NEED NEW ENGINE, MAINTENANCE SHOP THINKS IT WAS CAUSED BY TIMING CHAIN.
OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE: MY CAR KEEPS LOSING OIL SHORTLY AFTER I GET AN OIL CHANGE. I DON'T EVEN KNOW ITS LOW UNTIL I HEAR MY ENGINE RATTLING. THE LAST TIME IT WAS CHECKED BY JIFFY LUBE, I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE OIL ADDED AND I'M NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE (AUG 8, 2019) UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST 2019. NO LIGHT OR INDICATOR COMES ON TO LET ME KNOW MY OIL IS LOW. I REPORTED THIS TO MY DEALER (JEFF WYLER- OHIO) ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY YEAR AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO GIVE ME A PRICE ON INSERTING PISTON RINGS OR SOMETHING TO THAT NATURE. HOW AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ISSUE WHEN GM KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE LAWSUIT COVERS EQUINOX FOR 2012-2017? HOWEVER, IT IS LOW EACH TIME THEY SERVICE MY CALL AND EVEN WHEN I JUST WENT TO HAVE A LIGHT BULB REPLACED, I WAS DOWN 2 QUARTS AND NOT DUE FOR ANOTHER OIL CHANGE FOR 2 MONTHS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN 2014 AND THERE IS NO WAY I SHOULD EVER BE SHORT ON OIL - MY OIL IS CHANGED AS REQUIRED TO BE COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. IF I WOULD OF KNOWN IT WAS A RECALL, I WOULD HAVE BEEN CONTACTED GM. DONT' WORRY I'LL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER GM VEHICLE AGAIN. ONLY EVIDENCE I HAVE IS MY RECEIPT FROM JIMMY LUBE AND EACH PRINT OUT I GET WHEN JEFF WYLER'S SERVICE CENTER PERFORMS MY OIL CHANGE
VEHICLE RPM SURGES WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. VEHICLE STALLED TODAY AND SHUT OFF BUT WAS ABLE TO RESTART IMMEDIATELY. VEHICLE HAS UNEXPLAINED OIL USAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH AND APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION, THE STEERING SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO OURISMAN CHEVROLET OF BALTIMORE (6633 SECURITY BLVD, BALTIMORE, MD 21207, (410) 265-7777) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION VALVE WAS COLLECTING MOISTURE, WHICH FROZE AND BLEW OUT THE MAIN SEAL. ALSO, THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN WAS FRACTURED AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION RESULTING IN CAR STALLING AND RATTLING OF ENGINE. OIL CHANGE REQUIRED MORE FREQUENTLY THAN THE RECOMMENDED 3 MONTHS/3,000 MILES. ENGINE STALLED WHEN SWITCHING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. ENGINE RATTLED WHEN IDLE UNTIL OIL IS ADDED.
THE CAR STUTTERS AND CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING, THIS IS UNEXPECTED AND HAPPENS OFTEN.
THE ENGINE IN MY 2014 EQUINOX BLEW UP VIOLENTLY AT ONLY 67,937 MILES. IT OCCURRED AT FREEWAY SPEED ON I-94 IN DETROIT AND LEFT ME TOTALLY WITHOUT POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, INCLUDING MANY LARGE, COMMERCIAL TRUCKS. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO KEEP MY COOL AND NAVIGATE OFF THE NEAREST RAMP, COASTING TO RELATIVE SAFETY. TWO CONNECTING RODS WERE BROKEN IN HALF AND THE BLOCK ITSELF COMPLETELY RUINED. I BOUGHT THIS SUV FROM MY BROTHER WHO BOUGHT IT NEW AND IT HAS ALWAYS HAD PROPER MAINTENANCE. I HOPED THAT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT'S UNDER 100K MILES, BUT WHEN I CONTACTED MY LOCAL GM DEALER THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO THE IN-SERVICE DATE (FALL 2013). THEREFORE, I HAD THE ENGINE PROFESSIONALLY REBUILT AT THE MOST REPUTABLE LOCAL SHOP.AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $5,500. I UNDERSTAND THAT A SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT COULD BE AVAILABLE FROM GM IF THERE IS A RECALL, BUT CURRENTLY NONE IS AVAILABLE. IT IS MY CONTENTION THAT A WELL-MAINTAINED, LOW-MILEAGE MOTOR LIKE THIS SHOULDN'T BLOW UP AND THEREFORE, IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I ASKED CHEVROLET FOR A PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT, BUT THEY REFUSED.
PCV FROZE UP, CAUSING A FAIL IN MY REAR MAIN SEAL. HAPPENED TWICE IN 1 YEAR 1 MONTH TIMEFRAME. CHEVY WARRANTY COVERED FULL REPAIR FIRST TIME, SECOND TIME WAS PARTIAL CHEVY PAY, THE REST OUT OF MY POCKET.
PURCHASED VEHICLE IN AUGUST OF 2018 AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER CAR BEGAN TO FEEL DIFFERENT WHILE DRIVING. PROBLEM BEGAN WHEN I WOULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND CAR WOULD JUMP WHEN ACCELERATING. THEN WHILE GOING IN REVERSE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I HAD NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AT THIS POINT.NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT UNTIL ABOUT MARCH 2018. THE WITH ACCELERATING WENT FROM A 'JUML', TO CAR STALLING AND HAVING TO BE RESTARTED. BEGAN AS AN EVERY NOW AND THEN PROBLEM TO HAVING TO BE PUT IN THE SHOP BECAUSE IT WOULD STALL ALMOST EVERY TIME I WOULD STOP. WHEN IT STALLED IN A MAJOR HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR WAS MY FINAL POINT OF FRUSTRATION. IT IS NOW APRIL 2019 AND IS CURRENTLY BEING DIAGNOSED. HAVE HAD A FEW DIFFERENT OPINIONS ON WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE, BUT NO FIX YET. ALL ARE COSTLY! AFTER READING REVIEWS THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE OIL CONSUMPTION WAS LOW AND THE SOLENOIDS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JERRY'S CHEVROLET (1940 E JOPPA RD, BALTIMORE, MD 21234) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,109.
LOW PRESSURE WARNING, CAR STALLS OUT WHILE MOVING, LEFT STRANDED. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER AND SAID PVC PLUG WAS CLOGGED CAUSING ENGINE REAR SEAL FAILURE. THIS IS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL BUT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED, ENOUGH THOUGH THE MODEL YEAR WAS. I THINK THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED.
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE STALLS. I NOTICE LOW POWER TORQUE WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE. IF I FORCE IT TO ACCELERATE, IT STALLS, AND TURNS OFF. ALMOST CAUSE 3 OR 4 COLISIONS BECAUSE PEOPLE DRIVING BEHIND ME DO NOT KNOW THAT MY CAR IS GOANNAMAKE SUDDEN STOP WHEN SHUTS OFF. THIS IS HAPPENING ON DAILY BASIS AFTER CAR WORMS UP. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY PULLED CODES P0010 AND P0011. I REPLACED BOTH SELINOIDS (INTAKE AND EXHAUST) $42.58 EACH BUT THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. I WAS ALSO TOLD TO REPLACE SPARKPLUGS AND I DID COOSING ORIGINAL BRAND AT NAPA PARTS STORE. THIS ALSO DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE. I AM THINKING TO REPLACE THE COILS AS WELL, BUT THEY ARE EXPENSIVE AND NON RETURNABLE. LOCAL DEALER ADVISED ME THAT MY POWER TRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED ON 12/05/2018. ALMOST EXACT DATE WHEN CAR STARTED ACTING UP. I CONTACTED GM ON 01/08/2019 AND 01/15/2019 AND WAS TOLD THE SAME. S.O.L. WEHICLE POWER TRAIN EXPIRED ON 12/05/18. I CONTACTED THEM ON JANUARY 8TH 2019 AND THEY DID NOT EVEN WANTED TO TALK. I WASTOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECALS AND TO PISS OFF. I DID HOWEVER,NOTICE THE OIL CONSUMPTION. WALMART ASSOCIATE CALLED ME AND ASKED WHEN WAS LAST TIME I REPLACED OIL, AND I POINTED OUT THE DATE ON THE STICKER AND TOLD HIM THAT HE WASTHE ONE DOING IT LAST TIME I WAS AT WALMART REPLACING THE OIL. HE LAUGHED AND STATED THAT OIL LEVEL WAS TOO LOW AND LIGHT IS NOT ON. HE ADVISED FULL CAR TROUBLESHOOTING AND TEST. I TRACKED THE MILAGE SINCE THAT DATE AND NOTICED THAT CAR WAS CONSUMING 1 QT OF OIL EVERY 1,850 MILES. THIS WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. CAR HAS 37,000 MILES AND I STILL OWE 10K LOAN ON IT. GM, IF YOU READ THIS SHAME ON YOU!
WHILE DRIVING ON 1-30-19, MY EQUINOX STARTED RATTLING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECK THE OIL AND IT WAS ALMOST EMPTY. THERE WAS OIL DRIPPING FROM THE MAIN REAR OIL SEAL SO I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN AUTO MECHANIC. AFTER HE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE HE EXPLAINED THAT I BLEW OUT THE REAR MAIN SEAL DUE TO A PLUGGED PVC VALVE AND THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS PROBLEM, (14882). I CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALER AN HE SAID MY VIN WAS NOT LISTED UNDER THIS BULLETIN. HOWEVER THEY WERE UNABLE TO ANSWER WHAT CRITERIA WAS NEEDED TO BE COVERED UNDER THIS SERVICE BULLETIN.
WHILE DRIVING AT ORDINARY HIGHWAY SPEEDS DURING COLD WEATHER OPERATIONS MY 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX WITH A 2.4L ECOTEC ENGINE EXPERIENCED A REAR MAIN SEAL FAILURE. THE FAILURE CAUSED A MAJORITY OF THE ENGINE OIL TO BE PUSHED OUT THROUGH THE REAR MAIN SEAL DESTROYING THE ENGINE. THIS FAILURE WAS CONSISTENT WITH THE SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 14882 (SEE ATTACHED), A PLUGGED PCV ORIFICE. ICING OF THE PCV ORIFICE IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT CHEVROLET HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS. I CALLED CHEVROLET AND REQUESTED THEM TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIRING THE ENGINE WITH THE DESIGN DEFECT BUT THEY REFUSED TO EXTEND THE SPECIAL COVERAGE OF 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS BUT THE DESIGN DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY CHEVROLET. I HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY CHEVROLET'S DESIGN DEFECT AND REFUSAL TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE AMOUNT IT COST TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE.
I HAVE AN EQUINOX WITH A BLOWN MOTOR THAT GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE IS A PROBLEM. THERE IS NO LOW OIL LIGHT ON THESE CARS, NOT TO MENTION EXCESSIVE OIL BURN. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF OIL IT USES AND THAT ITS ALWAYS BLACK - TO NO AVAIL. A SMALL SOCIAL MEDIA INQUIRY TELLS ME THAT 2 OUT OF EVERY 3 OF THESE VEHCILES HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER MILKED IT UNTIL THE WARRANTY WAS UP, AND NOW THE AG IS TELLING ME I'M UP A CREEK BECAUSE I DIDN'T TAKE IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER. GM TELLS ME THE CAR IS TOO OLD TO FIX - ITS A 2014!!!! STILL PAYING ON IT!!! CHEVY NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS POORLY DESIGNED MOTOR. I DID SEE AN ATTORNEY AND I WAS THE SECOND PERSON THAT WEEK WITH THIS COMPLAINT. HOW MANY MORE ARE OUT THERE?
JANUARY 21, 2019 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. THE CAR STARTED TO SHAKE, NO ENGINE OR WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. WHILE DRIVING I CALLED MY DEALER SERVICE DEPT AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND THAT I WOULD BRING THE CAR DIRECTLY THERE TO DROP OFF TO BE CHECKED. ON THE WAY, ALL OF A SUDDEN EVERY LIGHT CAME ON AND TOLD ME TO IMMEDIATELY TURN THE ENGINE OFF. I DID AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE ENGINE BLEW UP AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS VERY COLD AND APPARENTLY THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF OIL BUILD UP AND FROZEN WATER IN THE AIR FILTER WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BLOW OUT THE REAR. I SERVICE MY CAR REGULARLY AND MAINTAIN THEM WELL. I WAS SHOCKED THIS HAPPENED AS I REALLY LIKED THE CAR. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 95,000 MILES ON IT. I TYPICALLY GET 250-300,000 MILES FROM MY VEHICLES. I HAVE HEARD THIS CAN BE A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINES. I AM NOW REPLACING THE ENGINE WITH A USED ONE.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN HER CAR BROKE DOWN ON A VERY VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. JUST BEFORE THE BROADWAY BRIDGE CROSSING THE MISSOURI RIVER ENTERING DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY MO LITERALLY RIGHT BEFORE THE BRIDGE ON THE SOUTHBOUND SIDE OF 169 HIGHWAY. THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS IN THE NEGATIVES. SHE CALLED ME AND I PICKED HER UP. MIND YOU I WORK NIGHTS SO I WAS IN BED. SHE HAD TO WAIT IN A FREEZER BASICALLY UNTIL I GOT THERE. WHICH WAS ABOUT 35 MINS. HYPOTHERMIA CAN TAKE AFFECT IN THAT AMOUNT OF TIME. LUCKILY SHE HAD A BLANKET AND AN EXTRA COAT TO COVER UP WITH. I DROPPED HER OFF AND WENT BACK TO THE CAR TO WAIT ON THE TOW TRUCK. THERE IS VERY LITTLE ROOM TO PULL OFF THE ROAD WHERE IT BROKE DOWN AT. ANOTHER 10 YARDS AND IT WOULD'VE BEEN BLOCKING A LANE OF TRAFFIC ON THE BRIDGE. THE TOW TRUCK GETS THERE AND IS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY REAR ENDED BY A DISTRACTED DRIVER. HE GETS BACKED UP STARTS TO GET OUT AND IS ALMOST SIDESWIPED BY ANOTHER DRIVER. HE CALLS ANOTHER TOW TRUCK TO THE SCENE TO BLOCK TRAFFIC SO HE DOSEN'T GET HIT. FINALLY AT THE SHOP. THE MECHANIC LOOKS IT OVER AND TELLS ME THAT THE REAR MAIN SEAL HAS BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE DUE TO A FROZEN PCV VALVE. AND THE ENGINE IS TOAST BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF METAL SHAVINGS ON THE DIPSTICK. AND DUE TO THE KNOCKING THAT THE ENGINE IS MAKING. $7000 FOR A REMANUFACTURED ENGINE INSTALLED IS THE QUOTE HE GAVE ME. A USED ENGINE WOULD BE CHEAPER BUT WE'D RUN THE RISK OF GETTING ONE THAT CONSUMES TOO MUCH OIL. SO THAT'S OUT OF THE QUESTION. THEN COME TO FIND OUT THEY KNOW THIS A PROBLEM?! BUT ARE ONLY COVERING CERTAIN VEHICLES. I'M BEYOND IRRITATED AT THIS POINT. NOT ONLY HAVE THEY ENDANGERED MY WIFE. NOT ONLY HAVE THEY ENDANGERED MYSELF. BUT THEY HAVE ALSO ENDANGERED THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER. ALL BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO FIX THEIR FAULTY DESIGN. THIS TYPE OF STUFF HAS GONE ON FOR FAR TOO LONG WITH AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURERS.
I WAS TOLD MY PCV SYSTEM HAD BUSTED AND CAUSED A OIL LEAK FROM THE REAR OF ENGINE AND CAUSED MY ENGINE TO BLOW.I WAS TOLD THAT COLD TEMPERATURES WILL MAKE THE PCV FREEZE AND BUST AND CAUSE ALL YOUR OIL TO LEAK OUT
PURCHASED A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX 2.4L ENGINE BACK IN LATE 2013 PRIOR TO A DEPLOYMENT. AFTER YEARS OF NO MAJOR ISSUES THE CAR BEGAN CONSUMING MORE OIL CONSIDERABLY AFTER 115,000 MILES. SHORTLY AFTER THIS ISSUE BEGAN THERE WAS ROUGH IDLING WITH THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. AFTER TAKING THE CAR IN FOR INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT A COMMON ISSUE REGARDING THE TIMING CHAIN WAS AFFECTING THE CAR. THE TIMING CHAIN CAME LOOSE SHORTLY AFTER THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND HAD RENDERED THE ENGINE UNUSABLE. ON THE DRIVE TO THE MECHANIC THERE WAS ALSO MULTIPLE STALLS OF THE ENGINE WHICH POSED A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. AFTER HEARING FROM MULTIPLE OTHERS THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2.4L ECOTEC ENGINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE, SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. MOMENTS LATER, FLAMES APPEARED UNDER THE HOOD. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. *TT PHOTOS ATTACHED*JB
TAKATA RECALL. ENGINE LIGHT IS ON SAYS ITS THE FLEX FUEL SENSOR RECALLS ON 2013 MODELS SO I BELIEVE ITS AN ON GOING PROBLEM AND BELIEVE IT STILL NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IT ALSO HAS A ROUGH IDLE WHEN FIRST STARTED DK IF THATS CAUSED BY THE FLEX FUEL BUT THE REMOTE START WONT WORK WITH ENGINE LIGHT ON
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING STRANGE SOUNDS AND THEN THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE ENGINE QUIT OPERATING. AFTER PULLING OUT THE ENGINE OIL DIP STICK, NO OIL WAS INDICATED. ON THE REAR DECK LID THERE WAS A OILY FILM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PCV VALVE WAS COLLECTING MOISTURE, WHICH FROZE AND BLEW OUT THE MAIN SEAL. THE DEALER (BOOKWALTER CHEVROLET BUICK, 335 S SHERIDAN RD, STANTON, MI 48888) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE PCV VALVE AND MAIN SEAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING IN A BLIZZARD WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ZEIGLER BUICK OF LINCOLNWOOD (LOCATED AT 6900 MCCORMICK BLVD, LINCOLNWOOD, IL 60712, (847) 674-9000), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED DUE TO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WHEN AT STOPS CAR WOULD STALL. NOW BEING TOLD CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR ISSUE. I NOTICED MANY OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
I HAVE MY OIL CHANGED REGULARLY AND THIS LAST TIME I WASN'T INTO THE OIL CHANGE MORE THEN 1000 MILES AND IT STARTED MAKING A NOISE AND STALLING OUT TOOK IT IN AND THERE WAS NO OIL IN IT SO THEY CHANGED IT FOR ME BUT IT CONTINUES TO STALL THEN MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON HAD IT TESTED AND IT DOESN'T SHOW ANY ISSUES. THE STALLING HAPPENS WHEN I'M AT A STOP OR JUST SLOWING DOWN AND ALSO BACKING UP.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR ON ICY ROAD CONDITIONS THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THE CAR CAME TO AN ABRUPT HALT. WE WERE UNABLE TO MOVE THE CAR AND IT NEEDED TO BE TOWED. MY YOUNG DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND WAS QUITE UNPREPARED FOR THIS. THIS ENGINE SEIZING IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR EQUINOX WHEN TEMPERATURES DROP BELOW FREEZING. SOMETHING HAPPENS IN THE OIL PAN OR GASKET WHICH CAUSES IT TO EXPLODE (FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD) AND ALL OF THE OIL SPEWS FROM THE ENGINE. HAD SHE BEEN IN A BUSIER INTERSECTION OR SHARPER CURVE, WE COULD HAVE EXPERIENCED A MUCH DIFFERENT OUTCOME. AS BRAKES AND STEERING WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN FUNCTIONING.
MY CAR HAS BEGUN STALLING AT RED LIGHTS AND GENERALLY WHENEVER I NEED TO STOP, I DON'T GET ANY WARNING LIGHTS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NEVER GONE ON AND IT STARTS BACK UP BUT THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR FOR FEAR THAT I'M GOING TO BE STRANDED. I HAVE DONE ALL MY OIL CHANGES ON TIME AND TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE VERY SAD THAT A 4 YEAR OLD VEHICLE HAS THIS GOING ON.
MY 2014 CHEVY EQUINOX BEGAN TO STALL WHENEVER I STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS MOSTLY WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY 45-50 MPH ROAD. IT WOULD SOUND LIKE IT WAS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING AIR SO TO SPEAK, AND TO STAY IDLE. IT WOULD SPUTTER AND THEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. IT WOULD START BACK UP WHEN I PUT IT INTO PARK AND TURN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. THIS BEGAN TO HAPPEN WITH MORE FREQUENCY. UPON READING MANY FORUMS WHERE PEOPLE REPORTED THE SAME ISSUE, I LEARNED THAT THE CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE CAUSED THE PROBLEM ON EQUINOX SUVS PRODUCED FROM 2011 TO 2014. THE PART WAS RECALLED FOR THE 2011 MODELS BUT NOT THE 2014. THE VEHICLE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED WHEN MY MY SON REPLACE THE SOLENOID VALVE. I THINK THAT GM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS PART FOR THE 2014 EQUINOX AS IT IS THE SAME PART.
THIS MORNING AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE A PARKING LOT AND PUT MY VEHICLE FROM PARK TO DRIVE THE ENGINE STALLED. MY VEHICLE MOTOR JUST STOPPED. IT DID THIS MULTIPLE TIMES AS I ATTEMPTED TO PUT MY VEHICLE INTO DRIVE. WHEN I ARRIVED AT WORK I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART MY VEHICLE AND IT DID THIS AGAIN WHEN I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. I WAS UNABLE TO PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE WITHOUT IT STALLING. AFTER SOME RESEARCH IT APPEARS THAT CHEVY IS AWARE OF AN ISSUE WITH EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IN MAKES 2010-2017.
INTERMITTENT VIBRATION FELT WHEN ENGINE IDLING. THEN ENGINE WOULD STALL WHEN COMING TO A STOP. HAPPENED MAYBE 6-8 TIMES. GOT AN OIL CHANGE (WASN'T OVERDUE), AND PROBLEM STOPPED.
REAR MAIN SEAL FAILED RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER OF VEHICLE WHILE IN MOTION RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC COLD WINTER DAY CITY STREET APPROXIMATELY OGDEN AND RAMEN CITY OF CHICAGO GOING INTO THE DOWNTOWN AREA
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. ALSO, THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATORS WERE FLASHING AND THE CHECK ENGINE, SEAT BELT, AND TIRE SYSTEM INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED. FURTHERMORE, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL CLICKING NOISE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SCRANTON CHEVROLET OF NORWICH (774 W THAMES ST, NORWICH, CT 06360) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL WIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AFTER FLUSHING FLUIDS BY DEALER, CAR NOW STALLS AT WHEN IDELING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. TWO MONTHS AFTER THE CONTACT HAD THE OIL CHECKED, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CALLED ON-STAR WHO INFORMED HER THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC ON THE VEHICLE WAS WELL AND THE OIL LIFE WAS THIRTY ONE PERCENT. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN ON A LONG TRIP. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED AN ABNORMAL KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER (BARRY'S AUTOMOTIVE INC LOCATED ON M 62 W, DOWAGIAC, MI, 49047) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
ENGINE STALLED OUT WHILE IDLING IN GEAR, ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR WHEN DEACCELERATING TO A COMPLETE STOP. NEEDED ONE FOOT ON BRAKE ONE FOOT ON GAS TO KEEP RUNNING. LOST ALL POWER ASSIST CONTROLS IN TRAFFIC WHEN VEHICLE STALLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
STARTED VEHICLE AND RPMS WERE BOUNCING AND CAR WAS IDLING VERY ROUGH. I TOOK THE CAR THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG, THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE ANYTHING. I ALSO ASKED ABOUT THE HARD DOWNSHIFTING AND BRAKE FADE AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE ANY ISSUES WITH CAR. I PICKED THE CAR UP 4 DAYS LATER FROM THE "SERVICE" AND THE GREASY HANDPRINTS ALL OVER THE HOOD AND SIDES OF THE CAR WERE TELL TALE SIGNS I WOULD NOT BE RETURNING. I WAITED APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AND THE START UP IDLE WAS GETTING WORSE SO I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL FOR THIS ENGINE TO IDLE ROUGH AND EMIT BLACK SMOKE ON INITIAL START AND WAS GIVEN A BULLETIN THAT SAID THIS WAS A NORMAL CONDITION FOR THIS VEHICLE. THEN ON 12/5/14 I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT IF THE CAR IS DRIVEN STRAIGHT FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THE STEERING COULD NOT OPERATE PROPERLY AND BE DIFFICULT TO TURN AND YOU SHOULD USE FORCE TO TURN THE WHEEL. THIS IS A NEW CAR WITH LESS THAN 7500 MILES ON IT AND NO ONE IS WILLING TO HELP? THANKS FOR NOTHING GM. *TR
IGNITION KEY DIFFICULT TO GET IN AND DIFFICULT TO TURN ENGINE OVER; IGNITION KEY STICKS BOTH OFF AND ON??? I KNOW OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE. ONGOING PROBLEM WITH GM??? *TR
