Your CVT transmission isn't responding smoothly and feels unsafe to drive. When you try to slow down or accelerate, the car hesitates, lurches, shudders, or stalls unexpectedly—sometimes taking off on its own without you pressing the gas pedal. Putting the car in gear causes it to rock or jump, making it especially nerve-wracking to drive at night or in heavy traffic. The transmission likely needs professional diagnosis and repair, which could involve fluid service, solenoid replacement, or internal transmission work.

FireFiled: Jul 2023

Your car began jerking at 45 mph, and when you tried to shift into drive, the gear shifter wouldn't stay in the proper position. The jerking continued with popping sounds, followed by smoke pouring from the engine bay and then flames appearing near the windshield, causing the vehicle to catch fire and burn completely. This issue likely involves a combination of transmission and engine problems that led to an engine fire.

Your dashboard is leaking a black, sticky, tar-like substance that continues to ooze and spread across the front half of the dash. The substance sticks to everything, smells, creates glare on your windshield that can obstruct your vision, and doesn't come off easily. This issue typically requires dashboard replacement or professional refinishing to stop the leaking material and restore visibility.

Your Altima has had chronic starting problems since 2011/2012, requiring at least 8 battery replacements despite having only 92,000 miles on the car. You've stopped visiting the dealer due to cost and repeated explanations, and instead rely on roadside assistance when the car won't start. The underlying cause hasn't been identified, but the repeated battery failures suggest either a faulty charging system, a parasitic electrical drain, or a defective battery replacement cycle. A complete electrical system diagnosis—including the alternator, battery, starter, and wiring—will likely be needed to find and fix the root problem.

Your dashboard is deteriorating and releasing chemical fumes that cause eye irritation and a strong smell throughout the cabin. Pieces are falling apart, control units are shifting out of place, and chemicals are coating your windshield, reducing visibility especially at night. When you run the air conditioning, debris blows out and the eye irritation becomes severe enough that passengers need to leave the vehicle. A dashboard replacement or refurbishment will likely be necessary to address the material breakdown and eliminate the chemical off-gassing.

Your dashboard has melted in spots, creating a shiny surface that reflects sunlight and causes a glare that makes it hard to see the road or oncoming traffic during daytime driving. The melted area is also sticky to the touch and continues to get worse over time. Fixing this will likely require replacing the dashboard panel or having the damaged section refinished.

Your dashboard is melting and cracking, which is causing glare that makes it difficult to see through your windshield. This glare could affect your visibility while driving. Fixing this will likely involve either replacing the dashboard or applying a protective dashboard cover to prevent further damage and reduce glare.

Filed: Sep 2025

Your mechanic found severe corrosion on your rear cross-member that makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. The corrosion is affecting multiple suspension components. Even though there's a related safety recall (NHTSA Campaign 09V358000), your specific vehicle's VIN wasn't included, so you won't be covered under that recall. The repair will likely involve replacing the corroded rear cross-member and affected suspension parts.

While driving at 55 mph on Atlanta Highway, you noticed smoke coming from the front passenger side of your vehicle. Flames then appeared on the right front, spread across the hood, and extended into the front and passenger seats. Fire services responded and extinguished the fire. The fire may have started from an electrical or engine-related issue in the front of the vehicle.

Filed: Aug 2023

While driving on the highway, your car's engine suddenly throttles down to below 60 mph and won't respond when you press the gas pedal to the floor, creating a dangerous situation. Then without warning, the car suddenly accelerates again, which could cause you to hit the vehicle in front of you. This problem only happens after about an hour of highway driving and mechanics have been unable to reproduce it.

Your car's engine computer (ECU) is malfunctioning, which is causing problems with your catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, and oxygen sensors. After another vehicle parked very close to your car, you noticed your suspension felt tense and was pulling to one side — a change from before the incident. The suspension issue suggests your car may have been damaged by the close parking and should be inspected by a mechanic.

Filed: Sep 2024

Your car's battery keeps dying repeatedly — you've replaced it at least 8 times since 2012, and it's happened again while parked in your driveway. This is a serious safety concern, especially when you travel alone, as you could be stranded in an unsafe situation. The dealership hasn't been able to identify why the battery keeps draining. Fixing this will likely require diagnosing the electrical system for a parasitic drain or alternator failure that's preventing the battery from charging properly.

Filed: Jan 2024

Your car has a strong gas smell inside the cabin, and gas gurgles out of the filler tube when you try to fill up. The fuel gauge responds slowly and won't read past the halfway point, limiting you to filling only $5 of gas at a time. Your dealer says the repair isn't covered under warranty, even though Nissan has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB NTB17-030) acknowledging this problem. The issue likely involves the fuel filler neck, vent system, or fuel gauge sender and may need replacement or adjustment.

Your front strut insulators (the rubber pieces at the top of the front shocks) are severely cracked on both sides, causing a loud clunking noise when driving over bumps or on flat roads. Similar issues on 2009-2010 Maximas and Altimas have been recalled, but your vehicle may not be showing up in the recall system. The fix will involve replacing the damaged strut insulators or the complete strut assemblies.
