Fix: NISSAN WILL REPLACE THE TRANSVERSE LINK BOLTS AND NUTS AND TIGHTEN THEM TO THE PROPER TORQUE SPECIFICATION FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 8, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 421)
Power Train →4 issues
Your CVT transmission is stuck at high RPMs (around 4000) even at low speeds, and won't downshift to lower your engine speed. You'll hear a loud squealing noise from the transmission that gets worse when accelerating, and the problem persists whether you're driving or parked. The issue is likely a faulty stepper motor in the transmission, which typically requires transmission repair or replacement.

Your car lost power while accelerating and then suddenly shifted into gear hard, triggering multiple warning lights on your dashboard. The dealer diagnosed a transmission failure. Even after replacing the mass airflow sensor, spark plugs, ignition coils, and catalytic converter at independent shops, the problem continued to occur. The transmission may need to be professionally inspected, repaired, or replaced to resolve this issue.

Your Check Engine light came on, and while driving at highway speeds, your transmission began slipping—the car lost power even as you pressed the gas pedal harder, forcing you to pull over. A mechanic flushed the transmission fluid and replaced the plate, but diagnostic codes indicate the transmission will likely need to be replaced.

Your 2012 Nissan Altima's check engine light came on and the transmission now won't accelerate above 20 mph, leaving you stranded twice in traffic. You've already replaced the stepper motor and valve body based on error code P1778, but the problem persists. The transmission may need a complete replacement or major internal repair to fully resolve the issue.

Unknown Or Other →3 issues
Your transmission feels like it's failing when you drive for more than an hour on the freeway—you can't accelerate above 40 mph, the car makes strange noises, idles roughly, and you feel the transmission slipping and jerking. The dealership suggested it's not the transmission, but you believe it is. With 117,000 miles on the car, you want to know if this is a known recall issue or if others have experienced the same problem.

Air Bags →2 issues
Your airbag warning light came on while driving. A mechanic couldn't find the problem, but the dealer diagnosed that your seat sensor unit needs to be replaced. This sensor tells the airbag system whether someone is sitting in the seat, so a faulty one could prevent airbags from deploying properly in a crash. Replacing the seat sensor unit should resolve the warning light and restore proper airbag function.

Your airbag warning light came on when you started your car. The dealer diagnosed a faulty occupant classification system (OCS) control unit and said your front passenger seat needed to be replaced. The dealer charged you a fee but didn't complete the repair. Fixing this will likely require replacing the passenger seat and possibly the OCS control module.

Steering,suspension,power Train →1 issue
Your power steering hose has been leaking since the car was new and wasn't repaired by the manufacturer. The tie rods failed around 5 years of ownership with less than 24,200 miles, and the CV joints have also been damaged, causing loss of steering control. Your suspension is no longer reliable, and you're also experiencing engine rattling after 2 years of ownership. The manufacturer did not identify these issues, creating a safety risk for you and others on the road. Repairs will likely involve replacing the power steering hose, tie rods, CV joints, and having the engine inspected for the source of the rattling.

Suspension →1 issue
While driving at 40 mph, you heard a loud banging noise from the rear of your vehicle, followed by a dragging sound, and the car started shaking. When you pulled over, you discovered that the rear driver-side tire had separated from the suspension and was hanging. This suspension failure caused your vehicle to become undrivable and required towing. A mechanic will need to inspect and replace the failed suspension components that allowed the wheel to detach.

Vehicle Speed Control,unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
Your CVT transmission's high-temperature protection mode activated while driving on the highway at 65-70 mph, causing complete loss of acceleration even with the pedal pressed to the floor. This left you unable to speed up or change lanes safely in fast-moving traffic. The fix would involve checking the transmission fluid level and condition, allowing the transmission to cool down, and having a dealer diagnose why the temperature protection mode engaged.

Steering,suspension,engine →1 issue
Your car is making clunking and bouncing noises from the right tire, and your acceleration isn't working properly. The issue appears to involve the steering, suspension, and engine systems. You should have this inspected soon, as suspension problems combined with engine performance issues can affect how your car handles and drives.

Vehicle Speed Control, engine, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your check engine light keeps coming back on even after the sensor was replaced, and your ABS light turns on while you accelerate, causing your car to jerk and jump. The issue appears to be related to the speed sensor and forward collision avoidance system. You'll likely need the speed sensor diagnosed and replaced again, or the ABS system may need to be serviced.

Electrical System →1 issue
Your car is taking 5-10 seconds of cranking before the engine starts, even though you've installed a new battery that has the correct voltage and your alternator has tested fine. The problem returns shortly after each fix, suggesting an electrical drain or connection issue that's draining power. This may require diagnosing what's drawing power from the battery when the car is off, or checking for corroded battery terminals and electrical connections.
