Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2011-2012 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the driver's frontal air bag may unexpectedly deploy if the air bag wiring harness gets chafed within the steering wheel and short circuits.

Risk: Unexpected deployment of the driver's frontal air bag increases the risk of a crash or driver injury.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air bag wiring within the steering wheel, replacing it if necessary. A protective cover will also be installed. These repairs will be made free of charge. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T33.

Your van caught fire while parked after sitting unused for more than 15 hours. An investigator determined the inverter located in the back driver's side panel under the cup holders short-circuited and ignited, causing the entire vehicle to burn completely within 40 minutes. The fire was severe enough to damage windows on the owner's home.

You discovered that the odometer mileage on your 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan doesn't match the vehicle's registration records. The odometer shows 101,000 miles, but the registration indicates the vehicle had 125,000 miles back in 2022 — meaning the odometer reading went backwards, which isn't possible. This suggests the odometer may have been tampered with or the mileage was rolled back before you purchased it. You may want to contact your local authorities or attorney about odometer fraud, as this is a serious issue that affects the vehicle's true value and service history.

Your battery warning light came on while driving at 45 mph. When you inspected the vehicle, you found the alternator was burned out and needed replacement. Even after taking it to the dealer, the mechanic couldn't determine why the alternator failed, and the vehicle wasn't repaired. The alternator will need to be replaced and tested to restore your vehicle's charging system.

Your heater turns on and off by itself without you pressing the button, which has been happening for about 2 months. This unexpected behavior is distracting and has nearly caused you to lose focus while driving. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing the heater control switch or the electrical circuit that controls it.

Your car's battery keeps dying after sitting unused for a week or more, even though it's a new battery. This has happened multiple times. The issue likely stems from a parasitic electrical drain that's discharging the battery when the vehicle isn't running, and a mechanic will need to test for faulty components drawing power when the car is off.

Filed: Jun 2024

Your car's power control module (which manages engine and fuel systems) may be causing problems related to a recall repair. You might experience poor fuel economy, difficulty starting the engine, or the engine not receiving adequate power to run properly. The issue appears to be connected to how the module controls fuel and electrical power delivery. Fixing this will likely involve diagnosing and possibly replacing or reprogramming the power control module.

Your car has an intermittent starting problem that mechanics haven't been able to diagnose or fix. It starts sometimes but not others, and the problem seems worse in cold weather, leaving you stranded. You've already spent significant money replacing parts trying to solve this issue, which other Grand Caravan owners have also reported experiencing. Diagnosing this will likely require a mechanic to perform electrical and fuel system testing to identify whether the problem is with the starter, battery, alternator, or fuel pump.

Your van struggles to start when it's cold outside because the fuel pump relay inside the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) isn't working properly. When you turn the key, the engine cranks continuously unless you manually turn the key all the way off, which can overheat or damage the starter motor. The fuel delivery becomes unreliable in cold weather, and the vehicle may start then stall. Fixing this requires replacing the entire TIPM unit rather than just the relay component.

criticalSTEERING,ENGINE
Filed: May 2025

Your 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan developed a whining sound from the engine, which led to a water pump replacement. Months later, your steering wheel suddenly locked up while driving 65 mph, forcing you to use excessive force to steer to a mechanic; a power steering flush and pump replacement temporarily fixed it. The whining sound then returned, and a mechanic found that the valves connected to your fuel injectors were defective. After diagnostic testing, your vehicle would no longer start. A complete repair of the fuel injector valve system and engine components may be necessary to restore full functionality.

Your vehicle unexpectedly rolled down a sloped driveway at high speed while parked with the emergency brake engaged and the transmission in Park, even though no one was in the driver's seat. Three children were in car seats inside the running vehicle when this happened. The dealership was unable to recreate the problem, and the emergency brake appeared to still be engaged after the incident. The issue may involve the parking brake system, transmission park mechanism, or related hydraulic/electronic components that may need inspection or replacement.

Your vehicle randomly shuts off completely as if the battery is disconnected, whether parked or while driving, then restarts moments later with no issues. No warning lights or error codes appear before or after these incidents. This intermittent electrical issue likely involves a loose or failing battery connection, ground wire, or alternator problem that needs diagnosis.

Filed: Jun 2023

Your vehicle's Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) failed multiple times while you were driving, causing a sudden loss of engine power, fuel pump power, and steering control at highway speeds and traffic lights. The steering wheel locked and the engine stalled as if you'd run out of gas, forcing you to restart the vehicle after 10-15 minutes of attempts. The TIPM has also caused your vehicle to fail to start and left you stranded at other times. This is a serious safety issue that could cause a crash, especially when it happens at high speeds or in busy intersections.

Both of your car seats and their bases have manufacture dates that are after their expiration dates—for example, one was manufactured on 07/15/2024 but expires on 07/12/2024. This appears to be a labeling or dating error from the manufacturer. You may want to contact the car seat manufacturer to clarify whether the seats are actually safe to use or if the dates were printed incorrectly.

Filed: Jun 2024

Your 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan won't start even though the engine tries to turn over, and you noticed the jumper cable ends were burned. No fuel is reaching the engine, and the fuel pump appears to have failed along with issues in the electrical relays. Your driver's side window also stopped working, and no warning lights came on to alert you to the problem. The dealer was unable to diagnose or repair the issue. Fixing this will likely require replacing the fuel pump, repairing burned electrical connections and relays, and diagnosing the window motor.

Your engine won't start, and even after replacing the battery, the problem comes back. An independent mechanic found that your fuel pump is running continuously and draining the battery—the only way to stop it is by unplugging the fuel pump fuse. This suggests a fuel pump relay or wiring issue that's preventing the pump from shutting off when the engine is off.

Filed: Jun 2023

Your van is experiencing multiple electrical problems including a non-responsive key fob, driver seat adjustment issues that blow fuses, and cold-start difficulties. A diagnostic revealed over 300 error codes, and the Chrysler dealership identified this as a known issue requiring a complete fuse box replacement costing over $1,100. The repair has been delayed significantly due to parts availability — your replacement fuse box isn't scheduled to arrive until late June, months after you placed your order.
