Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured June 29, 2007, to June 17, 2010, and 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles manufactured January 26, 2007, to June 17, 2010. Road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Risk: If the ignition key inadvertently moves into the OFF or ACCESSORY position, the engine will turn off, which will then depower various key safety systems including but not limited to air bags, power steering, and power braking. Loss of functionality of these systems may increase the risk of crash and/or increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch and key FOBs, free of charge. The recall began on May 26, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R03. Note: This is an expansion of recall 11V-139.

Your ignition key slips from the run position back to accessory position while driving, causing your van to stall. This has happened multiple times and creates a dangerous situation when the engine shuts off unexpectedly while you're on the road. The ignition switch likely needs to be replaced or repaired to keep it securely in the run position.

Your van's turn signal lights are not working properly, which caused another driver to nearly collide with you because they couldn't see your signal. Additionally, your headlights, wipers, and instrument panel lights randomly turn on together at 4-7 minute intervals while driving, accompanied by a chime sound. The mechanic identified a faulty TIP Module with internal corrosion as the cause, which requires replacement and reprogramming to fix.

Your car's electrical system is cutting out while you're driving, causing all the dashboard warning lights to flash and your power steering and brakes to temporarily fail. When this happens, you need to pull over and turn the car off immediately or it will stall in traffic. This has been occurring for months, but mechanics haven't been able to find the problem during testing.

Your 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan experienced a fire that started from the driver's side tail light while parked at your home. The fire damaged the tail light assembly, rear bumper, and part of the rear seat, and also cracked the rear windshield. No warning light appeared before the fire started. The electrical system in the tail light area likely experienced a short circuit or wiring fault that caused the fire.

Your engine has shut down unexpectedly twice while driving, even though the WIN module (which controls engine ignition) was replaced under a safety recall in 2017. The dealership replaced the module again for $582, but Chrysler refused to cover it under the original recall or warranty, saying the replacement part only had a 2-year warranty. You're concerned the original defect may have returned or a new defect exists in the replacement module. Addressing this may require Chrysler to investigate whether the replacement WIN module has the same underlying defect or to replace it again at no cost.

While driving at 40 mph in city traffic, your engine suddenly lost power, steering became hard to control, and the traction control warning light came on. The engine restarted after you pulled over and worked fine afterward. This unexpected shutdown in heavy traffic could have been dangerous, even though the ignition recall was already completed in 2009.

Your driver side window track keeps breaking repeatedly—you've replaced it twice in a short period, and it broke again within a week of the latest replacement. Additionally, your wing windows won't operate at all despite replacing the track and motor. The window motor itself appears to work for the main windows, suggesting the issue may be with the track mechanism or the wing window system specifically. You may need a thorough inspection of the window regulator assembly, track guides, and wing window motor to identify why parts keep failing prematurely.

While changing a flat tire on your Grand Caravan, the scissor jack failed when you were removing lug nuts. The main screw threads pulled through the threaded nut at the base, causing the car to suddenly drop with a loud noise. No one was injured, but this represents a serious safety hazard since the jack could collapse without warning during any tire change. You may need a replacement scissor jack or aftermarket floor jack to safely lift your vehicle.

Your parked vehicle rolled down a hill after you put it in park, causing it to crash through a chain link fence and damage the front end. This suggests your transmission may not be holding the vehicle securely in park on inclines. The issue likely involves the transmission park pawl or related holding mechanisms that need inspection and possible repair or replacement.

Your van suddenly lost power while driving, and your traction control, ABS, and check engine warning lights all came on at the same time. Resetting the computer temporarily fixed it, but the problem happened again. This suggests a deeper issue with your engine computer or transmission control system that needs proper diagnostic testing.

Air Bags →1 issue
Your airbags deployed on both the driver's and passenger's sides without any impact or accident while your vehicle was parked with the keys out of the ignition. You heard a loud pop from the passenger's side before the deployment occurred. The dealer and manufacturer were notified but the vehicle was not inspected or repaired to determine why this happened.

Tires →1 issue
Your left front tire was plugged to repair a nail, but the plug wasn't trimmed flush, leaving a protruding piece. While making a delivery, your van rolled backward down an incline while you were exiting, and the tire struck your foot. You were pinned between the door and seat as the van rolled, injuring your elbow, ribs, and arm. The shift lever may not have been fully secured in park. You should have the tire plug properly finished and verify that your parking brake and shift mechanism are working correctly.

Electrical System,service Brakes,engine →1 issue
While driving, your car's electrical systems suddenly fail — the dashboard warning lights flash on and off, and both your power steering and brakes stop working. All the lights go out. You can shift to neutral and restart the engine to drive again, but the problem repeats. This is a serious safety issue that requires immediate diagnosis of your electrical system.

Steering,service Brakes,engine →1 issue
Your car's engine has shut off randomly three times in one week while driving at normal speeds. When this happens, the traction control light comes on, and you lose power steering and power brakes even though other electrical systems keep working—forcing you to coast to a stop and restart the engine. This is dangerous because it could happen on a highway or in traffic, though you've already had the ignition switch replaced under recall. The cause may be related to engine stalling, electrical system failure, or brake system malfunction, which will require diagnostic testing to identify and repair.

Electrical System,air Bags,seat Belts →1 issue
Your airbag warning light stayed on after starting the vehicle. The dealer found that your battery was charging at too high a voltage (1000 volts instead of 800 volts), which damaged the occupant restraint control (ORC) module that manages your airbags and seat belts. Your vehicle was built just after a recall cutoff date, so it doesn't qualify for the recall even though the same model year had this issue covered.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your car cranks but won't start, and this happens intermittently without any warning lights appearing. The fuel pump relay—a component that controls power to the fuel pump—has likely failed, but the car will start if you bypass it. The fix will involve replacing the fuel pump relay or having a mechanic inspect and replace the failed relay component.

Electrical System,fuel/propulsion System,visibility/wiper →1 issue
Your van has experienced multiple electrical issues over the past 6-7 months: the battery drains and won't start without a jump, the windshield wipers won't turn off and the turn signal stalk stopped working completely, the radio flickers and changes channels on its own, and the fuel pump keeps shutting off as if your tank is full when it's not. These problems suggest a possible electrical system failure or battery/charging issue that's affecting multiple components throughout the vehicle. A mechanic will need to diagnose the battery charging system and electrical wiring to identify the root cause.
