2019 Ram 1500 Steering Problems

Your truck's power steering completely failed when you started it, making the vehicle very difficult to steer. A warning light appeared on your dashboard immediately. Additionally, your cruise control doesn't always activate unless you tap the back of the steering wheel button multiple times.

The power steering rack and pinion intermittently loses power especially at low speeds or when the vehicle is powered on. It is available for inspection upon request and has been inspected by a certified ram technician. This same issue is described in campaign number 19V812000 published by the NHTSA among other vehicles of this same make and model.

My power steering went out when driving on the highway. I had it towed to the dealership and was told the power steering rack fried and it would be almost $5 to fix. Taxes LINE C CONCERN: Power steering warning pops up on dash at startup and I have no power steering.

I am filing a formal complaint regarding a critical safety defect in my 2019 Ram eTorque, which posed a severe risk to my pregnant wife while she was driving. The vehicle’s battery unexpectedly failed, resulting in a complete loss of power steering and all safety functions, creating a hazardous situation in the middle of the roadway that could have LED to a serious accident.

I am experiencing intermittent loss of power steering. This occurs while driving and puts myself, my passengers and other drivers on the road at risk of crash/injury. Symptoms first started to appear in December 2024.

Heated steering wheel failed. Components and/or wiring melted. This was discovered about 5 months ago and it took that long to get replacement parts because they were on back order.

The power steering spontaneously failed today, 4/2/2024, without any warning. I then received a message, "power steering unavailable service required" and the corresponding warning light illuminated. I have called the dealership and explained the issue, but they have not returned my call.

When driving the truck at times the steering sticks to the left when making a left turn. The steering sticks around the 9-11 o'clock position on the steering wheel and will not return to center unless you turn the wheel yourself. You can feel the sticking when you bump the wheel toward 12 o'clock to return to center.

My vehicle is experiencing electrical issues that cause major systems to stop working while driving. This includes internal messaging screens, blind spot warning and various other systems failing. The most serious of which is the electronic power steering.

Electronic Power Steering Failed, Rack and Pinion was replaced and dealer kept the failed component , Was impossible to safely steer the vehicle and maintain control the vehicle, luckily it failed at a location that didn't result in a crash! Three weeks ago, my electrical power steering failed in a parking lot. This locked up the steering wheel going 10 MPH. After this, the steering wheel was extremely difficult to move and almost resulted in a collision.

Driving home from work , as I slowed to turn on to the road that takes me home , I lost power steering, for a brief second I thought I was gonna crash into a on coming vehicle. my power steering doesn't work properly on my 2019 Ram 1500 classic. when I drive it goes in and out of power steering. I see there is a recall for FCA US has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Electric Power Steering (EPS) gears intended for use on 2013 – 2019 Model Year (DS) Ram 1500 pickup trucks.

On October 27, 2021 I was pulling into a parking lot at extremely low speed and upon turning heard a pop noise and felt a minimal jolt in the steering wheel. Letter in the day as I was leaving I turned right to come home and had the same experience. The next morning same thing at slow speed turning either left or right.

Steering control While driving higher then 40 MPH the steering stick both right and left when going around a bend. This has caused 2 oversteering events with out accidents or injuries. This will be much more dangerous during inclement weather, especially snow.

While slowing down from 45mph on a flat level road (over a bridge) prior to making a turn the outer passenger tie rod end completely decoupled from the hub's backing plate. I almost completely lost steering. Had another vehicle been in the area, or had the incident happened a second or two earlier there could have been a crash or even a fatality.

Passenger side tie rod inner end outer separated and upon inspection threads had rusted and they pulled apart in a simple left turn. Luckily it as at low speed, but had just gotten off the interstate at 70 MPH. This could have been a catastrophic accident had it happened on the interstate.

I was driving and my power steering failed without warning causing me to nearly crash on the throngs neck bridge moving at 55 MPH . The dealership will not tow my truck because I am in new jersey. So they rather me get hurt or die rather than spend a few dollars to have me towed

Safety Complaint – Power Steering Failure on 2019 RAM 1500 Big Horn 4x4 Not Covered by Recall VB8 To Whom It May Concern, I am submitting this complaint regarding a recurring safety issue with my 2019 Dodge RAM 1500 Big Horn 4x4. The vehicle experiences intermittent power steering loss, particularly during colder temperatures.

The truck lost power steering due to the soldering on the star connecting being messed up. The truck also had 4x4 not available,as well as no brake assist in reverse due to the communication issue. The dealership had to replace the star connector due to soldering issue.

On Friday August 2nd. 2024 approximately 11am I was driving my 2019 ram 1500 laramie. At about 28 MPH my truck lost power steering.

In 2023 I replaced the electric power steering box after it seized up while I was driving. I have seen several recalls on this issue for every other year but 2019. The exact same issue exists in my truck.

I have been experiancing power steering failure on my 2019 Ram 1500 (21,000 miles) vehicle at random times since the end of November 2022. On 12/13/22 it was dropped at a Dodge dealership in Queens NY where they had my vehicle for seven days and I was told it was because of my battery and they installed and charged me for a new one.

My truck got hit in the front right, including the front right wheel that had a fairly high impact, alloy wheel is bent in one section (see attached photo). After that impact I was not able to steer or apply the breaks. The steering wheel would not move either direction no mater how much force I applied.

When traveling at low speeds when turning right the power steering feels like it is going to go out. I noticed that there have been recalls on the 2019 Ram 1500 due to power steering problems. I believe there is something wrong with my vehicle and should be included with the other 2019 Ram 1500's that were recalled for power steering failure.

I was driving on I-75 at approximately 73 MPH when my instrument panel lights blinked and then turned off. My vehicle lost all power, I turned the steering wheel about 5-10 degrees to the right and my steering wheel locked. I could not press the brake pedal because it was stuck.

It took me about an hour to get the truck to where I could move it. If I would have been driving fast, this could have really hurt or killed someone.

On three separate occasions the vehicle power steering stopped working. One event was while driving the vehicle at highway approved speed on the interstate when the vehicle's power steering stopped operating suddenly in heavy traffic on a curve. The vehicle was extremely difficult to manually steer to a safe location in traffic.

Lost power sterring twice. Took to dealer with a recall I saw about 12 volt battery ground fastener may be loose. Had it checked out and about 5 days later loss power sterring again.

I was driving down interstate i95, when I got an alarm on my dashboard saying my power steering was unavailable, and I had no power steering, I took my truck to the dealer and they checked for loose wires and changed the pcm module and the battery sensor, my truck has been there 3 times as this last from anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 minutes, and has been doing this 6-10 times a day

2019 ram 1500 bighorn Power steering is going out intermittently while driving without notice or indication that it's going to happen, and it's throws power steering service light.The behavior matches exactly to the confirmed recall from Dodge "Safety Recall VB8 / NHTSA 19V812 Electric Power Steering Gear", I'm unclear why this vehicle VIN was not part of the recall as the recall description matches exactly in behavior, make, model and year of the truck.

Intermittent short discovered in the electric power steering (EPS) system. I took the vehicle to the dealership to perform diagnostic testing and the dealership confirmed the issue is a short-circuit within the EPS system. This issue has already been covered in a separate NHTSA recall (19E-077) however my VIN was not included.

Power steering. Steering warning light (Steering service required) comes on randomly for a second or two and then goes away. Making steering and controlling the vehicle very difficult.

- I like to report that my Ram 1500 Classic has been having issues with steering since March 2025. I had around at that time 78k miles on the truck give or take. I took the truck to the dealership where I purchased it (Brown Daub Easton PA).

Power Steering Failed at startup of vehicle and starts and stops working randomly while driving. It does tell you to service the power steering system when it is not working. I have not had it inspected by a dealer yet.

as of 3/25/2025, Started having sudden intermittent power steering loss along with, 'service power steering' code. I haven't been able to use the truck due to being unsafe. I am on call all month and will have to tow it to dealership afterwards.

While driving the freeway at 70 MPH, the truck flashed a message to service shifter. Windshield wipers starting going on their own, all messages popped up on dashboard, and the vehicle started gradually slowing down posing a safety issue. Speedometer was going from 0-50 MPH back and forth and steering wheel was hard to maneuver.

On multiple occasions after 10-15 minutes of driving at various speeds, while turning either way, or while driving straight, a “Power Steering Unavailable” warning comes on the dash and steering stiffens and becomes almost immovable. Very similar to NHTSA Recall Number: 19V-016. On one occasion PS faulted while starting into a curve at 50 MPH.

Had my truck in for service and they found a cracked right front CV axle and carrier joint. I was told that this is a safety issue and could lead to uncontrolled steering, but then was told by two different dealers that the part is on national backorder with no time frame for availability. I was also told that this is a common issue and other RAM1500 models have had warranty repair or recalls, but none seems to be available for mine.

Vehicle is showing symptoms of "Safety Recall VB8 / NHTSA 19V-812 Electric Power Steering Gear" vehicle has similar vin, but appears not listed eligible for the recall.

The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel intermittently became firm, and excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. I Have only had this truck for 2 months. I was driving and making a turn and the electrical power steering stopped working and the steering wheel locked. I almost crashed and drove into a ditch with my whole family in the truck. Including a [XXX]. I had to slam on the breaks and barely able to keep the truck from crashing. Dashboard said " Power Steering unavailable Service Required". I turned off the truck and restarted it to see if it would fix the issue. It did not. I drove the rest of the way home going slow with the hazard lights on. Steering wheel needed to be muscled for it to make the smallest turn. I had to drive over curbs because it would have been impossible to make some of the turns needed to get home. I called Ram and reposted the incident. They did not care because my vin is not listed for the recall and that the recall is "VIN specific". I do not understand this. VIN specific means each truck would be custom made and all different. Why is my family's life being risked and not being taken seriously. Once home, I have not been back in the truck. I turned it on the next day and the alert is gone and the wheel moves again. The power steering on my 2019 Ram pickup keeps going off so that i am forced to muscle the steering wheel when making turns. I filed a claim on this previously but never heard back from you. It takes quite a bit of strength to manuever the truck without power steering and this is quite unsafe in my opinion; for example, I do not allow my wife or daughter to drive the truck with this dangerous situation. I also took my vehicle into the local dealer for repair of this issue. They told me I had a weak battery with "low codes" and charged me $400 for a new battery. They told me they could not find anything else to report. Very frustrating!!!! When I get in my truck I have to wait for a long period of time before my steering wheel will unlock. After it unlocks it drives good. It’s just take 30-45 mins for the steering to unlock before I can drive it.

While traveling at low speeds, power steering fails. Dash indicates a warning message “Power steering service unavailable”. There is a recall for this exact issue, same year and model, but my VIN is not included. Diagnostic at dealership shows issue is same as recalled issue but is not able to repair under recall due to VIN. Dealership states cost to repair is $3400.

When driving in wet road conditions the truck will jerk the steering wheel to the left into oncoming traffic. When the condition happens it’s impossible to hold the steering wheel straight to keep in the proper lane. During dry road conditions the steering works and will remain in the proper lane with no issues

While driving my steering wheel will stick left or right while turning and the power steering is intermittently working. This is a major problem with 2019 ram 1500s. While turning there is also a horrible sound outside the vehicle and it sounds like there is sand being ground up in the steering wheel. This problem makes my vehicle unsafe to drive as i dont know if i will be able to steer or if my steering wheel is going to completely lock up.

When turning left, the steering locks slightly. Overcome with slightly more pressure. It is scary when it happens. It's done it since I drove it off the lot with 28,000 miles. When loaning truck, I let the driver know about this issue. Went to dealer 3 times, unable to reproduce. The vehicle or component has only been inspected by the dealer. No warnings given by vehicle.

original part # 68545657aa was malfunctioning and i took vehicle into shop to replace. I had to order replacement part 68545657AB at my own expense and pay to have it installed. I received safety recall notice "A2B/NHTSA 24E-082" via mail and went to the recall reimbursement website. this part is not currently listed on the options to select. I called in and was told the vin #'s had not been finalized yet so it does not currently appear. I am submitting this form so that my vin will be included for reimbursement. thank you

The power steering says it's "unavailable" and "needs servicing" when cold starting the vehicle at tempuratures lower than 45 degrees fahrenheit. I purchased the vehicle used and owned it for one day when this error occured. My safety was put at risk because when the error went away and I drove down the road, the error returned and the steering wheel locked up when I was driving, could've caused a nasty accident if the timing was worse. The problem is reproduced when the vehicle is cold started at tempuratures of 45 degrees fahrenheit or lower. The EPS component is currently being inspected by the used car dealership. The warning message only appeared as the power steering malfunctioned, there was no prior warning to the power steering failing, making the vehicle extremely unsafe to drive as their is complete uncertaintly when the power steering will shut off.

Power steering failed while driving on highway. “Power steering unavailable” warning illuminated on dash, accompanied by immediate complete loss of power steering. Turning without it is extremely difficult in this vehicle, and if was not traveling on a straight road, likely would have caused a wreck.

I purchased my 2019 Ram 1500 in Sept 2018. I have had continuous steering issues since the day of purchase and each time I've complained over the past years nothing has been done by the dealer to address my problem. When the truck is warmed up and you're driving over 50 MPH there's a "catch" or spot that seems to have a rough spot when steering to the left.

My truck is turning hard and is an issue driving. There are recalls for the same year and online states it has recalls for rams manufactured before 10-2018 and my truck was manufactured on 7-2018. I’m being told there is no recall.

Dodge dealership says the electric power steering module has a fault and needs to be replaced but says the module can't be replaced without replacing full rack and pinion steering as well as module for $3000.

2019 RAM classic with significant wobble /vibration during highway driving between 40 and 80 at cruising speed. Will do similar shaking during acceleration, but not consistently. We have replaced the rims, all 4 tires (the two rear wheels have been replaced twice), the vehicle has been balanced twice, once high speed and once with all 4 wheels. the tires have been balanced as well. The vehicle has gone to several different repair shops trying to troubleshoot the problem. Documents are available upon request.

While driving at low speed in city street, the Sterring wheel became very hard, and error display showed failure, stoped at red ligth and turned truck of on, problema got worse, was not able to drive, with many errors called dealership as I was 2 blocks away, came and helped take truck to dealership and after eview they stated that the issue was battery and all programing lost.

Truck was at the shop for a repair, upon the technician driving the truck when he turned into a parking lot the whole truck shut off, tow truck had to bring it back to the shop, this is a problem in this truck but the VIN doesnt have recall although 15 eps serial #'s are included in a power steering recall.

Failure of electric power steering

While driving at low speeds and turning normally left or right the dashboard flashes and makes a noise with the statement "power steering unavailable service required." Once the turn is stopped it goes back to normal but happens every time I make a turn. Steering locks up.

The dealer determined that an unknown software update needed to be performed. The contact related the failure to TSB Number: 08-137-21. The dealer charged a fee for both repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.

Vehicle makes a grinding noise every other start. I believe this si the rack and pinio might be failing. An even louder grinding noise when making a right turn. Showing sign of a defective Rack & Pinion with shake ride again at high speeds on the highway not constant lately but higher frequency has accured. I noticed there's a recall for the rack & Pinion but it shows that my vehicle is not affected. Please add my vehicle to that recall and or further investigate

The 4wd has never worked in my 2019 Ram 1500. I bought the truck in November of the same year, I tried to engage the 4wd with the snow that year and it would not engage. Notification showed service 4wd, I took it to a ram dealer in South Carolina where I worked out of town they had it for two days and they informed me they didn't know what was wrong with it. I then took it to the dealer at home they kept it overnight and installed a new actuator. It engaged the first time and then back to service 4wd. This time was different it stayed in neutral, I turned the emergency brake on and turned the truck off. The dial tried to return to park but couldn't so with the truck off and Ebrake applied I had to have a tow service pick it up and take to the dealer. I then scheduled an appointment with the dealer I purchased it from and they said they updated the software and it was working. I tried to engage the 4wd in the parking lot and it still showed service light. They kept the truck for two days and said a gear in the transfer case was bad and I had to pay $1,000 to fix it. But the same year truck has a recall for the same issue I'm having. I declined the service due to an active recall. About a week later the power steering wasn't working right. When I was doing highway speed and would turn left it was like I had to fight it back into the lane, but only while turning left. I then took it to a mechanic and he said the truck was clearly over steering from the wear marks and that the R&P looked good no leaks but it may be the rack. So I looked at the active recalls and sure enough there is an active recall for the same year truck for electronic power steering and the transfer case but when entering my VIN it says my truck has zero recalls? I really hope something can be done I've lost my job due to cardiac arrest and used my 401k to pay the lein off just to have all these issues. Thank you

When I turn a full 90 degree left or right, a message pops up on my dash saying power steering service required for about a second then goes away. Sometimes the vehicle steering will lock up while driving. Sometimes when the vehicle is started the message appear again but goes away after a minute.

The backup camera started getting very foggy, overly sensitive to lights at night making it very blurry. I bought an aftermarket camera as a direct OEM replacement which works fine, however the onboard Uconnect 12" display will not allow me to turn back on the backup guidance lines over the video for the aftermarket camera on the display.

The power steering on my 2019 Ram 1500 stopped working while driving on Interstate Hwy 94 in Wisconsin in heavy holiday traffic on Friday, June 30, 2023. The steering wheel vibrated, I heard a warning sound, and a warning message came up that indicated the power steering needed servicing; there was immediate loss of the power steering; this all happened in 2-3 seconds.

Went for routine maintenance and was told a front axle shaft retainer clip had failed allowing axle to move away from differential. This was at the Dodge RAM dealer. Car is a 2019.

I was pulling out of my work parking lot and right as soon as I’m trying to make the turn out of the parking lot my steering wheel would not turn. Thank God I was still in the parking lot, but I was not able to move my steering wheel at all, the dealer said that it was a full painting rack failure in the steering column itself along with the power steering.

I had a failed 48v battery for the etourque system so the 12v battery was no longer being charged. I had a dispute with the dealer so I picked up the truck and began to drive home. As the generator/alternator for the etourque system was not able to charge the 48v and 12v batteries due to the 48v battery fault, the engine and all systems were running on whatever charge was left in the 12v battery.

- There's a malfunction with the rack and pinion resulting in the steering wheel to get stuck in a position while traveling at highway speeds. When making a lane change or a left bend at speeds above 45mph, the steering wheel is sticking at about 20-30 degrees from the top. This results in jolting to overcorrect the steering and get the steering components unstuck.

My steering wheel, at high speeds of 60+ MPH, would "stick" when turning left, at approximately the 11 to 10 o-clock positions. This stickiness meant the wheel would not return back to center when releasing left turn pressure on its own.

When turning at low speeds to the right the steering will make a vibration and shake a little. At firts I thought was the ABS or traction control acting up but now you can definitely feel the vibration coming from the electric assist.

This truck makes a grinding or rubbing sensation when turning and when turning and breaking. The sensation comes from the steering column and vibrates through the steering wheel. It is audible as well.

Steering rack fails. The part has been redesigned 12 times to my knowledge with no known fix. Parts to repair vehicles are currently not available.

When turning the steering wheel right I felt a resistance and a grinding/rubbing in the steering system. This has happened several times to both me and my spouse. We have taken it to the dealer, and were told it could not be duplicated.

Just over 23,600mi of generally on-road use, the electronic power steering (eps) failed on a trail in the snow, nearly sending the truck truck uncontrolled into an embankment. The eps had first locked up during a 3-point turn - the steering feel was as if the steering lock snapped 'on', not allowing the wheel to return to center after being turned (to the right).

THE TRUCK HAS BEEN INTERMITTENTLY EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THIS SITUATION HAS BEEN HAPPENING AFTER I STOP THE TRUCK. HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES NOW. MAKES IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND OR MANEUVER TO GET TO A SAFETY SPOT. ALSO WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT LOSES LANE, DEPARTURE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, ASSISTED BRAKING & MOST ELECTRONIC SAFETY FEATURES.

WHEN TURNING TO THE RIGHT THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL MAKES A GRINDING NOISE SIMILAR TO ABS ACTIVATION CAUSING TURN RESISTANCE AND "UNDERSTEER" NEARLY RESULTING IN SEVERAL COLLISIONS. WHEN REPAIR WAS ATTEMPTED RAM REPORTED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT HAVE NO REPAIR. THIS RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE TO DRIVE AS THE UNDERSTEER COULD READILY RESULT IN A COLLISION.

THE VEHICLE RESISTS THE TURN AND HAS RESULTED IN NEAR LOSS OF CONTROL MULTIPLE TIMES. DEALER CANNOT FIX THE ISSUE AND HAS BEEN INFORMED BY RAM THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NO FIX. THIS ISSUE STARTED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE AND HAS CONTINUED TO WORSEN OVER TIME. FROM RESEARCH PERFORMED IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH NO RESOLUTION AVAILABLE AND NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN BY THE MANUFACTURER RESULTING IN A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR THOSE OWNING THIS VEHICLE.

HAVE TO WAIT A WEEK TO GET IT IN TO LOCAL DEALER FOR A LOOK AND NOT SURE IT CAN BE DRIVEN. MAY NEED TO BE TOWED IN!. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME.*DT *TR

ELECTRICAL- BACKUP CAMERA STAYS ON AFTER PUTTING VEHICLE IN DRIVE. COMPUTER-RADIO-PHONE RESETS ITSELF EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK WITH NO FIX.

THIS MORNING 10/23/20 AT 0530 I WAS DRIVING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY WHICH IS 128 FEET LONG. MAKING A RIGHT TURN ON TO THE STREET AND MY POWER STEERING LOCKED UP. CODE ON THE DASH SAYS "POWER STEERING SERVICE DUE SOON". I COULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. I HAD TO MUSCLE THE STEERING AND REVERSE THE TRUCK BACK TO MY HOUSE. MY 2019 RAM HAS AROUND 14,000 MILES. I'M SURE GLAD I WAS NOT ON A SIDE STREET OR THE FREEWAY. IT COULD OF BEEN A BAD SITUATION.

WHILE DRIVING MULTIPLE DASHBOARD WARNINGS APPEARED AND THE POWER STEERING ABRUPTLY FAILED. BROUGHT INTO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THE PROBLEMS WERE CORRECTED, THESE ISSUES WERE APPARENTLY CASED BY BAD GROUND CONNECTIONS, AS PER DEALER. FOUR DAYS LATER I AGAIN HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS.

STEERING MAKE LOUD NOISE WHEN TURNING STATIONARY AND MOVING AND VIBRATES STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY CONFIRMED PROBLEM. STATED THEY ARE WAITING ON RAM TO GET FIX. IT HAS BEEN OVER 5 MONTHS AND ENGINEERING DOES NOT COME UP WITH FIX. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO NATIONAL RAM TO NO HELP.

1ST PROBLEM....STEERING COLUMN RATTLES LOUDLY IN-BETWEEN 45 AND 60 MPH AND AT SPEEDS BELOW 10MPH. TRUCKS FRONT END GRINDS WHEN MAKING SLOW SPEED RIGHT HAND TURNS. ALSO TRUCK LURCHES, GRINDS AND RATTLES THE ENTIRE FRONT END SLOWING DOWN OR BACKING UP AT SLOW SPEEDS....THIS HAPPENS WHEN BRAKES ARE NOT BEING APPLIED. SOMETIMES WHEN I DRIVE THE TRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL STAYS OFF CENTER TO THE RIGHT AND PULLS VERY HARD TO THE RIGHT. CHRYSLER SAYS IT POSSIBLE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RACK BUT THEY DONT HAVE A FIX. GETS WORSE ALMOST EVERY DAY. 2ND PROBLEM....I HAVE NOTICED THE TRUCK HAS MARKS WHERE THE KNUCKLE AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ARE HITTING EACH OTHER. I UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR STEERING STOPS BUT THESE ARE NOT STEERING STOP HITS. THESE PARTS ARE STRUCTURAL PARTS OF THE TRUCK THAT ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO HIT. BOTH SIDES ARE DOING THIS AND I DO NOT FEEL THE TRUCK IS SAFE WITH THIS ISSUE AND IT HAS CAUSED STRESSED AREAS ON THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK. THIS COULD CAUSE PARTS TO FAIL AND HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES AT ANY SPEED THE TRUCK IS GOING IF THEY DECIDE TO FAIL. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES AND WAS JUST DROPPED OFF AGAIN TODAY. THEY SAID THEY MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE PARTS THAT ARE HITTING...BUT THEY ARE THE SAME PARTS AND IT WILL DO THE SAME EXACT THING AGAIN. THEY GAVE ME A 2019 RAM TO DRIVE AS A LOANER AND THIS TRUCK DOESNT HAVE THE AIR SUSPENSION LIKE MINE DOES. I INSPECTED UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND THE SAME EXACT ISSUE ON THIS TRUCK. TRUCK WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AT 40MPH. APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT AND THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD STARTED GOING OFF (ALL OF THEM). THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WENT ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES, BLINKS DIDN'T WORK, HAZARDS DIDN'T WORK, THE RPM AND MPH GAUGES KEPT GOING UP AND DOWN. THE BRAKES DIDN'T WORK SO I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT, SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED 5 MINUTES AND STARTED IT UP AGAIN. SAME THING HAPPENED. SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED 10 MINUTES, STARTED IT BACK UP AND THIS TIME ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I MADE IT HOME 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD. THE FIRST BUSINESS DAY AVAILABLE, THE DEALER CAME AND PICKED UP THE TRUCK. IT HAS BEEN WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE WEEK. THE CALLED THE OTHER DAY AND SAID SOMETHING IS WRONG, THEY ARE UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE UP NOW. THEY ARE WAITING FOR AN ENGINEER TO REVIEW IT FROM THE MANUFACTURER.

WHILE OPERATING THE 2019 RAM 1500, THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS (DOES NOT TURN SMOOTHLY OR LOCKING WHILE IN THE TURN) WHEN YOUR TURNING IT LEFT OR RIGHT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 50-70 MPH. WHILE OPERATING THE ABOVE MENTIONED VEHICLE, DUE TO THE STEERING MALFUNCTIONING, I FEEL IT IS DEEMED UNSAFE TO OPERATE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.

EVERY LIGHT ON DASH WAS FLASHING, GAUGES WERE BOUNCING ALL OVER, HAZARDS WOULDN'T TURN ON, LOSS OF POWER STEERING, LOSS OF BRAKES, WIPERS SPED UP, TRANSMISSION TRYING TO SHIFT GEARS, AIRBAG LIGHTS WERE ON, TRANSMISSION SLAMMED IN TO PARK ONCE VEHICLE WAS UNDER 5 MPH, AND SHUT ITSELF OFF. HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO YORK CHRYSLER IN CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN. THIS WAS ON THURSDAY JULY 30. I HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO BOSAK MOTORS IN MERRILLVILLE, IN ON FRIDAY JULY 24 DUE TO SAME ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND THE ISSUE. I MANAGED TO VIDEOTAPE THE ISSUE WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING. I ALSO LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND A COUPLE VIDEOS OF OTHER RAM 1500 DOING THE SAME THING.

POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING AROUND A PARKING LOT.THE TRUCK IS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER AROUND CORNERS. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING THIS TRUCK WITH NO POWER STEERING.

STEERING STICKS IN THE 11 O'CLOCK POSITION IN LEFT CURVES OF 30 DEGREES AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH OR MORE. THE FASTER THE SPEED THE MORE PRONOUNCED THE STICK. THIS IS THE STICKING PROBLEM REPORTED BY MANY IN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE GROUND ISSUE TOTAL POWER LOSS. THE PROBLEM WAS ORIGINALLY CORRECTED AT 1879 MILES BY THE DEALER REPLACING THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY. PROBLEM REAPPEARED OVER THE WEEKEND 7/24/2019 AT 35,200 MILES. I'LL BE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER THIS WEEK. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS SOMETHING AMISS IN RAM'S RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLIES. THIS PROBLEM COULD DEFINITELY RESULT IN THE DEATH OR INJURY OF THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE OR THE OCCUPANT'S OF OTHER VEHICLES. I FIND REFERENCES ON RAM FORUMS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AS FAR BACK AS FALL OF 2018, THE SAME AS MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM. I AM HIGHLY SURPRISED THAT RAM HASN'T FOUND AN ANSWER FOR THIS PROBLEM.

Intermittent loss of power steering assist and an inconsistent steering effort, especially during lower speed maneuvers, when forcing the wheel back to center the vehicle will jerk to the right. The vehicle mileage is 14000 and has been operating this way since I acquired the vehicle late 2019

I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FOWLER DODGE IN OKC AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND MADE NO REPAIRS. I ROTATED THE TIRES THINKING THIS MAY REMEDY THE PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT. RIGHT HAND BENDS ARE NOT AFFECTED ONLY WHEN NAVIGATING A LEFT HAND BEND. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND FOUND WHERE THE SAME COMPLAINT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE NHTSA AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR RAM 1500 FOR POWER STEERING ISSUES AND I FEEL THIS IS PART OF THE SAME ISSUE. I AM NOT AWARE IF A ERROR CODE COMES ON AS I AM TO BUSY WATCHING THE ROAD. THE ISSUE HAPPENS FREQUENTLY WHENEVER NEGOTIATING A LEFT HAND BEND. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

Speedometer and entire instrument cluster stopped working, wipers started working, transmission would not shift. Message on cluster stated to get where you're going and don't turn engine off or it may not restart. Driveability was greatly reduced, power steering seemed to be less effective.

Getting ready to make a left turn into my driveway, when the steering wheel wouldn't turn and a "power steering unavilable//service required " message popped up on the dash display. After traveling at highway speeds, approximately 70 MPH, for 10 to 20 minutes the steering will stick at around the 1100 to 1000 o'clock position during left hand turns on interstates. If left alone the steering will not realign at the 12 o'clock position and vehicle will continue to veer left .

Steering wheel occasionally does not return to center when turning left. I can let go of steering wheel and it will stick in the 10 o'clock position for example.

Purchased truck in dec 2018. About a month in around 2000 miles started experiencing the steering wheel sticking around the 11:00 position at highway speeds. I drive 1500 to 2000 miles a month and afraid I am going to overcorrect especially in heavy traffic.

When vehicle is at highway speed and going into left hand corners, the steering wheel sticks if you go past the ten o clock position. It happens only after driving at highway speeds for a period of time. It does not happen on right turns, the wheel comes back, but intermittently.

While driving at highway speeds, initiating a sweeping left hand turn, like an on-ramp, the steering wheel 'sticks' to the left wanting to continue a sweeping left turn and requiring a significant pull to force recentering the truck. (describes like breaking a bolt loose). Intermittent replication requiring highway speeds means dealership is writing it off as 'normal operation'.

I took my truck into the dealership for problems with the fuel economy being severely below the epa rating. While at the dealership, I found out that the dealership sold me a brand new truck with two open recalls that were unrepaired. I believe this is illegal.

Safety recall for steering ground cable was fixed by dealer and my power steering is still intermittently going away causing steering to lock up temporarily. Taking back to dealer for second time to see if they can fix it. It is not safe and almost caused me to cross the center line at 55 MPH and hit a car head on.

The power steering stops working intermittently. It may be for a few seconds, or a few minutes. I may go a couple of days without a failure, when it does happen, it tends to happen several times in a short period of time.

The steering went out due to a pcm failure. The dealer said that the pcm shut down the steering due to sensing too much voltage from generator to protect this unit. I was traveling on us highway 400 at 50mph when it would not steer left or right.

While traveling at a high rate of speed, the power steering light came on, and the steering wheel locked up and became almost impossible to turn. Sporadically losing power steering, EPS on this 2019 RAM 1500 Classic. I noticed it sporadically at lower speeds and its now become more and more. EPS control box item number is TIC1999B5492 .

The steering wheel get hard to without warning and is very difficult to steer. EPS GEAR, Rack and Pinion defect. While driving at highway speeds the steering wheels get hard and impossible to steer.

As my son was driving down the interstate, the power steering went out and stopped working. And he got a service needed message.

I got in my truck and once I turned it on a warning message popped up on the dash board saying power steering unavailable and gave me a red steering wheel sign. While the vehicle is running is hard to turn left and the steering wheel got stuck turning left at any speed..!!! This problem happens very frequently sense the date of purchase..!! The vehicle currently has 100541 miles

While driving down the highway I received a message in my dash that my power steering was no longer available. I was in a slight curve (not too bad). The steering was instantly hard to move the wheel.

Every time I turn on my truck my steering wheel locks out for 15-20 minutes not allowing me to turn my tires. After waiting for the “service power steering” warning sign goes away it’ll then unlock allowing me to drive.

Power steering went out while attempting to back up.

Excessive play in steering, especially during turns, truck tends to slightly drift

Driving at speed around a curve and lost all power steering without warning. Almost put car in ditch because the steering wheel was yank out of my hands when power steering was lost.

Steering sticks when going to the left at 35 MPH and up. Sticks at 10-11 oclock position and must be forcefully returned to center causing vehicle to jerk. Over and under steer has to be constantly managed and is dangerous.

This is a second report to NHTSA for power steering issues. Three separate times, the power steering cut out between speeds of 30 - 45 MPH making it difficult to turn and change lanes.

Since 9,000 my steering gets stuck my truck now has 60k miles and the steering feels loose and still gets stuck in certain conditions.

2019 dodge ram. Consumer writes in regards to power steering issues. The consumer stated there was a recall concerning the power steering gear, but the vehicle was not included.

Alignment is off and I only have 22,000 miles on vehicle and it's worn only the outside edge of tires alignment is off nearly 1.5-2 inches

I was stopped at a right light, made a right turn and immedailty lost all steering it was locked in a right turn had to slam on the brakes after the truck ran up over the curb onto the sidewalk inches from driving through a brick wall. I shut the truck off started it again and everything seemed fine.

Started the vehicle last night and got an alert that the power steering was unavailable. Power steering is not working. The car was stationary.

When driving above 40 MPH the steering sticks. It happems while driving into and out of turns. The steering grabs/sticks and has to be forced to correct.

I own a 2019 ram 1500 4x2 big horn currently with 9600 miles. This has been an ongoing issue since the truck was new and I see that other ram owners have had a similar problem. When traveling at speeds between 40-55 and in a left hand curve with the wheel between 10 & 11 o'clock, the steering wheel seems to catch and not return to center without forcing it.

When driving speeds are in excess of 70 MPH steering wheel does not return to center when steering on the freeway.

While steering left, the steering wheel gets hung up, and does return to center without forcing it back to center.

Steering wheel will stick and not return to center when turning left or veering left at highway speeds and when entering on ramps to highways. This can be a serious safety issue as it takes excessive force to bring the wheel back to center, which could lead to overcompensation and eventually wrecking.

Steering sticks when in a left turn at highway speed have to forcibly recenter it when coming out of the turn it will keep turning left if pressure on the wheel is relaxed.

Performance dodge ram (555 mantua pike, woodbury, nj 08096, (856) 848-5008) was contacted and stated that they would follow-up with a response.

When turning the steering wheel back to the center from the left, there seems to be a catch and it resists turning. It seems to match other recalls out there, but my VIN was not included in any of the current, documented recalls.

After ~ 1000 miles the steering wheel does not re-center while making left turns - either on exit/entry ramps (broad slow turns) or hard left turns. Steering fights you to bring wheel and truck back to center. This happens after driving for at least 30 for 40 minutes and is only for left turns.

Apple chrysler dodge jeep ram of hanover (200 eisenhower dr, hanover, pa 17331, 717-637-1101) was unable to schedule an appointment within a reasonable time frame due to the part being on a nation-wide backorder.

Steering is stiff when coming out of a left turn. Very reluctant to come back to zero almost as if there is a dead spot in the steering rack itself.

Power steering on the vehicle failed to work with only 1,000 miles since purchased.

After driving for about 10min in town (30-50mphs) the power steering warning went off and power steering failed in traffic for about 90 sec before returning.

Started truck in a parking lot and started to pull away, went to turn and truck went straight till it indicated to 'service power steering.' once I realized it had lost all power steering I was able to limp it home with much effort to make turns. Traffic was light so was able to use multiple lanes to make turns.

Vehicle in a left hand turn over 30 MPH will not correct itself and has to be manually corrected or the vehicle continues turning left. Ram acknowledges the problem but no solution as of this date december 1, 2019. Ram rapid response team stated "if customer maintains contact with the steering wheel their is no safety issue."

While driving in dallas over the weekend, the trucks power steering became unavailable. Happening at slow speeds through a residential area. The truck was stopped, turned off then started again and it came back.
