When it rains, your front windshield wipers don't make full contact with the windshield and fail to clear away water, even at highway speeds like 35 mph. There is a NHTSA recall (#98V093000) related to windshield wiper linkages, but the dealer and manufacturer refused to service your vehicle under this recall because your VIN wasn't included in the recall's coverage. The fix will likely involve inspecting and adjusting or replacing the wiper linkage components to ensure proper contact with the windshield.

While driving at 35 mph, the ball joint connecting your windshield wipers to the wiper motor suddenly snapped and broke. Your car matches the description of a known NHTSA recall (#98V093000) for defective wiper linkages, but your specific vehicle wasn't included in that recall based on its VIN number. The fix will likely require replacing the wiper linkage assembly or ball joint.

Your driver's side sun visor falls down on its own, blocking your view of the road. This happens because the swivel hinge clip that holds it in place breaks. The dealer has indicated this part is backordered and may take time to replace.

When you turned on your windshield wipers during snow and rain, you heard a snap and your driver's side wiper arm broke — a plastic piece fractured off. Your mechanic confirmed this is a known Nissan recall item, but the dealership told you the replacement part is on back order and won't arrive until January 2005, leaving you unable to safely drive in wet weather. The dealership refused to expedite the part or provide a loaner car at no cost, offering only a paid rental while the recall repair waits. Fixing this will require replacing the broken wiper arm assembly with the recalled part once it becomes available.

Your windshield washer nozzles are spraying fluid inconsistently and sometimes in the wrong direction, making it hard to clean your windshield while driving. Two service dealers were unable to identify the root cause of the problem. The issue likely involves a clogged or misaligned washer nozzle, a faulty pump, or a kinked hose that needs inspection and repair.

Electrical System →4 issues
Your car may suddenly lose all electrical power while driving, including the engine, power brakes, and power steering — this happens because a connector (E104) on the wiring harness behind the fuse panel has a loose or corroded connection that cuts power intermittently, especially in hot weather. You might temporarily restore power by jiggling the connector. Additionally, a similar loose connection on the same wiring harness can cause your dashboard and interior lights to fail while driving at night, making it impossible to see your speedometer. The fix will likely involve inspecting, cleaning, or replacing the faulty electrical connectors on the wiring harness.

Your car has lost all electrical power while driving on two separate occasions, causing the engine to shut off and disabling power steering and power brakes. Additionally, the car sometimes fails to start entirely. The issue appears to be caused by an intermittent electrical circuit that's not making consistent contact.

Your car's distributor—the part that controls the ignition system—has failed 4 times while you've owned the vehicle, preventing the car from starting. Because the distributor is part of the firing system, repeated failures could pose a fire hazard. The distributor will need to be replaced or repaired to restore reliable starting and address the potential safety risk.

Your odometer isn't working properly, which means you can't accurately track your vehicle's mileage. This can be a safety concern since you won't know when routine maintenance is due, and it may also affect the car's resale value. Fixing this typically involves repairing or replacing the odometer gauge cluster.

Steering,air Bags,visibility/wiper →1 issue
While making a right-hand turn on a city street, both front airbags suddenly deployed without any collision or impact. The airbag deployment caused your front windshield to crack severely. This appears to be related to a Takata airbag recall issue. Fixing this will require replacing the defective airbag system and windshield.

Air Bags →1 issue
Your car was involved in a rear-end collision at 40 mph while stopped at a traffic light, which then pushed it into another vehicle ahead. Neither the driver nor passenger airbag deployed during the impact. The airbag system may need inspection or replacement to ensure it functions properly in future collisions.

Tires →1 issue
Your left front tire blew out while driving, causing you to lose control and hit a median wall, then veer off the road. You had noticed the tire losing air and requiring refills before it completely failed. The blowout may have been related to a slow leak or tire defect that went unaddressed.

Wheels →1 issue
While driving at 35 mph, your front passenger wheel completely detached from the vehicle, causing it to drop onto the front axle. Before this happened, you noticed the steering wheel shaking and heard a loud thumping noise. The fix will likely involve inspecting and replacing the wheel hub assembly, lug nuts, and related fasteners that hold the wheel in place.

Suspension →1 issue
When you turn corners or drive over dips at around 40 mph, your car suddenly wobbles and sways severely, making it feel like it might tip over. This happens without any input from the steering wheel and with no warning, which is frightening and potentially dangerous at higher speeds. The problem is likely caused by worn rear suspension bushings, and Nissan has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB 98-001) to address it. Fixing this will require replacing the rear link arm bushings and possibly related suspension components.

Exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your tail lights failed to illuminate while you were stopped in traffic, making your vehicle invisible to other drivers at night. Another vehicle struck your car from behind because the driver couldn't see your brake lights or determine if you were moving. Your car had no warning lights to alert you to the electrical failure, and no dashboard indicators showed anything was wrong. The repair will likely involve diagnosing and replacing faulty wiring, connectors, or the tail light assembly itself.

Child Seat →1 issue
During a rollover accident, your child safety seat detached from its base while a child was in it, and the seat crashed through the rear window. The child sustained serious internal injuries (bruised spleen and tailbone), and another passenger suffered severe head trauma. The safety seat's attachment system failed to keep the seat secured during the rollover.

Engine And Engine Cooling,exterior Lighting,air Bags,seats →1 issue
Your headrest foam is wearing away or shifting, exposing the metal frame underneath where your head would impact in a crash — the headrest can't be easily repaired and needs replacement. Your check engine and airbag warning lights are triggering frequently without actual problems found, causing unnecessary shop visits and dashboard distractions (especially at night). Your 1996 Sentra may have inadequate brake light brightness due to a recall, but replacement bulbs aren't clearly documented and dealers don't know which bulb to install. Addressing these issues would require replacing the headrest assembly, investigating the sensor/warning light system, and upgrading to the correct brake light bulbs.

Suspension,exterior Lighting,visibility,equipment →1 issue
Your 1996 Nissan Sentra has three open safety recalls that Nissan dealers in your area have not offered to repair for free: problems with the windshield wiper linkages affecting visibility, defective front coil springs in the suspension, and faulty tail lights. Federal and state law require manufacturers to fix recalled defects at no cost to you. You may need to contact Nissan directly or seek assistance from your state's consumer protection agency to ensure these safety issues are addressed.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic, engine And Engine Cooling, equipment →1 issue
Your car loses acceleration when the air conditioner is on. You've already had the O2 sensor replaced, but the problem persists. Additionally, your brakes are failing again shortly after being repaired. These issues suggest problems with engine performance under load and potentially improper brake service.
