NHTSA Campaign: 24V154000

Component: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024 Titan, Frontier, Infiniti QX60, Pathfinder, 2023-2024 Sentra, Versa, Kicks, Infiniti QX50, and 2023 Rogue vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the driver's air bag inflator may absorb moisture, and cause the air bag to deploy improperly.

Risk: An air bag that deploys improperly may not protect the driver as intended during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: Dealers will replace the front driver's air bag assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD103, PD104, and PMA34.

Your shifter knob has popped off while shifting gears, which could create safety concerns while driving. The shifter knob should not come loose without deliberate force applied to it. This may require replacing or reattaching the shifter knob assembly.

When you connect your iPhone to Apple CarPlay, you hear loud static during phone calls and music that makes the audio cut in and out, making conversations hard to understand. This forces you to unplug and replug the CarPlay cable multiple times per day to fix it temporarily—a dangerous action while driving—or take your hands off the wheel to use your phone's speaker instead. The fix will likely involve a software update to your vehicle's infotainment system or a replacement of the CarPlay-related wiring and connectors.

Your dashboard shows a "Low Battery" warning for your key fob even though you've replaced the batteries in both fobs. Oddly, when you use the remote start feature, the warning doesn't appear. This suggests the warning system may not be working correctly rather than an actual battery problem.

Your 2023 Sentra rolled backwards unexpectedly while parked and shifted into Park, causing you to be struck by the driver's door as you tried to stop it. You sustained injuries including knee, back, and thigh damage plus a concussion that required medical treatment and an MRI. This suggests a potential failure in the transmission or parking brake system that prevented the vehicle from staying stationary when in Park.

Engine1 issue
criticalENGINE
Filed: Mar 2026

Your 2023 Sentra stalled while driving at 40 MPH and wouldn't restart, with the check engine light coming on. A mechanic found that the engine had seized and was cracked — it turned out to be a rebuilt engine rather than new. You'll likely need a complete engine replacement, which you addressed by purchasing a used engine from a salvage yard.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your 2023 Sentra has experienced recurring electrical problems affecting the dashboard, infotainment system, steering, and collision avoidance features since 8 months of ownership. Multiple dealerships have replaced the battery and infotainment system but refused to diagnose the root cause, and the car has lost electrical power while driving despite the engine staying on. A third-party shop indicates this is a grounding defect requiring extensive disassembly to repair, and you've exhausted warranty coverage following dealership advice to continue driving the car normally. Resolving this will likely require professional electrical diagnostics and rewiring/grounding repairs to identify and fix the underlying electrical system defect.

NHTSA #: 11719365
Power Train,engine,fuel/propulsion System1 issue
criticalPOWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Mar 2025

Your 2023 Sentra has a noticeable delay when you press the gas pedal, especially after the car has been sitting idle. This delay makes it hard to accelerate quickly when merging onto highways or in emergency situations, creating a safety risk. Your fuel gauge also shows incorrect readings, making it difficult to know how much fuel you actually have. The dealership has confirmed the problem is related to the CVT transmission but hasn't been able to fix it after multiple service visits. Fixing this will likely require a transmission software update, transmission replacement, or a full vehicle replacement.

Steering1 issue

CrashFiled: Dec 2023

While making a right turn at 15 MPH, your Sentra suddenly jerked to the right and crashed into a parked vehicle. The airbags did not deploy, and you were injured. The dealer found that the tie rod had fractured, likely after you drove over some potholes. The tie rod needs to be replaced to restore proper steering control.

Filed: Apr 2025

Your car's malfunction and ABS warning lights turn on about once a week, and when they do, your car won't start—you have to jump-start it to get it running again. This has been happening since you bought the vehicle in January 2025, even though the rental company's records show it was well-maintained. The issue likely involves the electrical system or battery sensor that's triggering these warnings and preventing startup.

Electrical System,back Over Prevention1 issue

Filed: Nov 2024

Your rear backup camera isn't displaying an image when you put the car in reverse, which means you can't see directly behind the vehicle. The dealership hasn't confirmed the issue or performed an inspection, but online research suggests this model has known camera problems. The fix will likely involve diagnosing whether the camera itself or its wiring harness is faulty, and replacing the defective part.

highELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Oct 2024

Your car's battery died unexpectedly at 24,000 miles, even though you haven't experienced any prior issues. This is unusual for a relatively new vehicle and suggests a potential electrical drain or battery defect. The battery may need to be replaced or tested to identify why it failed prematurely.

Steering,electrical System1 issue
highSTEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Filed: Aug 2024

Your dashboard and all gauges suddenly went dark while driving, then came back on with warning lights flashing — the dealership couldn't reproduce the problem. More seriously, your radio, backup camera, and auxiliary ports stopped working completely and won't turn back on; a dealership was finally able to confirm the issue, but the replacement radio is on backorder with no estimated arrival date.

NHTSA #: 11611072
Back Over Prevention, forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
highBACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Apr 2024

Your car's collision warning and automatic braking systems are triggering false alarms. The forward collision warning sounds when pedestrians are on nearby sidewalks, not actually in your path, and the rear automatic braking engages when reversing even with plenty of clearance behind you. Your previous 2021 Sentra with the same features didn't have these issues. The fix will likely involve recalibrating or updating the sensor settings and software for both the front and rear safety systems.

NHTSA #: 11585728
Steering,forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
highSTEERING,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Feb 2024

Your 2023 Sentra has had persistent clicking sounds from the steering system that Nissan has replaced twice under warranty, but the noise keeps coming back. Additionally, your Forward Emergency Braking system occasionally malfunctions, showing a warning light with an exclamation mark, though the dealer hasn't been able to reproduce the problem. The repairs may involve a complete steering column assembly replacement or recalibration of the forward collision avoidance system sensors.

NHTSA #: 11569879
Service Brakes,forward Collision Avoidance1 issue
highSERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
Filed: Aug 2023

Your car's forward collision avoidance system may be overly sensitive during bad weather, causing the brakes to engage unexpectedly and preventing the car from moving normally. You had to repeatedly press the brake pedal and manually redirect the car to get it to the parking spot. The issue appears to be with how the collision avoidance system responds to weather conditions rather than the brakes themselves. A software update or recalibration of the forward collision avoidance sensor may be needed to fix this problem.
