SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
CHRYSLER IS RECALLING 1,585 MY 2007-2008 JEEP WRANGLER, RIGHT HAND DRIVE ONLY, VEHICLES. SOME VEHICLES MAY HAVE INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND REAR BRAKE TUBES.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A REVISED BRAKE TUBE CLIP TO RETAIN THE TUBES, INSPECT THE BRAKE TUBES FOR DAMAGE DUE TO POTENTIAL CONTACT WITH THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, AND REPLACE THE BRAKE TUBES IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 30, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 THROUGH 2010 JEEP WRANGLER LEFT AND RIGHT HAND DRIVE PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 15, 2006 THROUGH APRIL 22, 2010. THERE MAY BE CONTACT BETWEEN THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT INNER FENDER LINERS AND THE RIGHT FRONT AND LEFT REAR BRAKE TUBES WHICH COULD CAUSE WEAR OF THE TUBES CAUSING A BRAKE FLUID LEAK.
Fix: CHRYSLER WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLES FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-853-1403.

After you installed aftermarket brake hoses on the rear brakes of your 2008 Jeep Wrangler, you noticed smoke coming from the rear driver's side brake rotors while driving. This happened because brake fluid was leaking from the hose, causing the brakes to overheat. ABS brakes not working on my Jeep. Was told by dealer that it needs a new ABS module, but nobody has the part. How can I drive my vehicle when my ABS brakes are not working and you don't provide the part to fix it? The one dealer in Texas that has the part jacked up the price for it. That is price gouging, which is against the law. Chrysler is and will be responsible for any accident cause due to this issue.
On my 2008 jeep wrangler the driver’s rear drum hard brake line bursted completely and almost split in half, leaking fluid. The hard brake line follows the frame rail, and this breakage occurred at the 90° bend above the transmission cross support. My safety, my passengers safety, as well as others on the road were at risk when the brake failure occurred. While operating the vehicle on a decline, brake pedal began to sink to the floor and the “brake” e-brake warning indicator began flashing and dinging. There were no prior indications of the issue. Thankfully I was able to slow down my vehicle by shifting down and using my e-brake. Had vehicle towed and Private mechanic inspected and performed repairs, mopar/Chrysler no longes makes this part and a custom bent hard line had to be created. Attempted to contact Chrysler 3 times regarding the safety issue this posed, they referred me to the dealer 1st call. I spoke with a mechanic at my local dealer whom agreed with me that the hard line had no reason to break given the location of the damage and that it’s a non-wear item. The Mechanic suggested i call back the 1-800 number to continue with reporting my safety concerns to the manufacturers as there was nothing he could do at the dealership. 2nd call, the new representative also told me to call the dealer and when i asked for a supervisor to report my safety concerns, she hung up on me. The third call the rep said the exact same thing, however he sated a supervisor would call me back. I haven’t received a call back for a week.
BRAKE LINE STARTED TO LEAK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, AN ABNORMAL SOUND WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A LOW SPEED VEHICLE COLLISION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS OPERABLE AND DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO CONWAY HEATON NEW DODGE JEEP FORD CHRYSLER RAM (810 N 3RD ST, BARDSTOWN, KY) WHERE IT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000.
ALL 4 BRAKE LINES CORRODED. ONE BLEW AND THE OTHER 3 HAD BULGES. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. I HAD PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO PUT VEHICLE IN GEAR. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND SMOKE CAME FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE LINES WERE CORRODED DIRECTLY BEHIND WHERE A PREVIOUS RECALL K13 HAD BEEN DONE TO FIX THE FENDER LINER ISSUE ABOUT THE LINER RUBBING A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE. ALL 4 LINES CORRODED IN THE SAME SPOT. THE FENDER LINER HELD MOISTURE AND ALLOWED THE LINES TO CORRODE.
WHILE DRIVING MY STOCK 08 JKU RUBICON WHEN I WENT TO STOP BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I ROLLED INTO AN INTERSECTION. I AM SO LUCKY I DID NOT DIE OR KILL SOMEONE ELSE. I GOT IT HOME TO FIND THAT MY TIRES HAD WORN A HOLE IN MY BRAKE LINES ON DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT. I CONTACT DEALERSHIP WHO BASICALLY TELL ME IT ISN'T COVERED AND THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF ANY ISSUE'S WITH TIRE RUB ON BRAKE LINES. I CONTACTED FCA THEY CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHO NOW BASICLY TOLD ME TO BRING IN ASAP. TODAY I AM CONTACT BY DEALERSHIP THAT IS COVERED BUT AFTER IT FAILS.
ANTI LOCK BRAKE MODULE FAILED. BRAKE PEDAL WOULD PULSE ON DRY PAVEMENT EVEN AT SPEEDS UNDER 5 MILES AN HOUR BUT WOULD FAIL TO BRING VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. PROBLEM BEGAN AS INTERMITTENT THEN WOULD RANDOMLY GO FROM PULSING BUT STILL STOPPING THE VEHICLE TO EVENTUALLY THE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR WITH NO PULSING AND NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. ALSO, NO BRAKE WARNING LIGHT OR ANTILOCK BRAKE LIGHT. I KEPT THE MODULE AND WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEND IT TO YOU FOR EVALUATION. SINCE I HAVE REPLACED THE MODULE (LAST FALL) I HAVE HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES.
PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BRAKE LINE WORN AND ERODED FROM TIRE ON RIGHT TURNS.
I WAS ON AN ON-RAMP ENTERING A HIGHWAY. WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW DOWN TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC, MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT STOP OR EVEN SLOW DOWN THE JEEP. I COULD NOT STOP AT ALL MY JEEP AND RAN INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I INSPECTED MY JEEP AND FOUND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE HAD COME APART. THE INTERNAL FITTING WAS RUSTED AND THE RUBBER COATING APPEARED TO BE DAMAGED/BURNED. THIS IS FACTORY BRAKES, NO MODIFICATIONS HAVE EVER BEEN MADE TO ANY PART OF THIS JEEP. THE DEALERSHIP MECHANIC INITALLY TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WAS ON THE VERGE OF COMING APART ALSO, THEN REFUSED TO SPEAK TO ME AFTERWARDS. I HAVE A BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY WHICH SPECIFICALLY LISTS ALL OF THESE PARTS AS COVERED. CHRYSLER THEN CONFISCATED MY VEHICLE, REFUSED TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS CLAIMING THEY ARE "INSPECTING IT FOR SAFETY" FOR THE NEXT FIVE BUSINESS DAYS. I DO NOT CONSENT TO THEM TAKING MY VEHICLE FOR THIS PERIOD OF TIME. THEY REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL CAR DURING THIS FIVE BUSINESS DAYS OF THEIR SO-CALLED SAFETY INSPECTION. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH MY JEEP AND WHY THEY WON'T RETURN IT TO ME. CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN HORRIBLE AND NO ONE WILL GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION ABOUT MY JEEP OR WHAT'S GOING ON WITH IT OTHER THAN IT'S BEEN "UPGRADED" TO A DIFFERENT LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT. I BELIEVE THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO COVER UP A FACTORY/MANUFACTURING CAUSED DEFECT DUE TO THE WAY THEY ARE HANDLING THIS SITUATION AND THE REFUSAL TO DISCUSS THE JEEP WITH ME.
BRAKES APPLY THEM SELF DIFFERENT WHEELS AT DIFFERENT TIMES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS WHEELS GET HOT, SMOKE AND WEARS BRAKE SHOES OUT, DAMAGES ROTORS. WHEN YOU HIT GAS THE BRAKES APPLY. THIS IS DANGEROUS IF ANOTHER VEHICLE IS BEHIND YOU WHEN THE BAKES APPLY THEN YOU WILL BE HIT IN THE BACK.CAN NOT FIND ANYTHYING WRONG WHEN WE TAKE IT IN TO BE CHECKED. THEY APPLY AT ANYTIME YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN.
2 WEEKS AGO MY FRONT PASSENGER BRAKE CALIPER SEIZED WHILE DRIVING. IT SMOKED AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS I LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER SAFELY. I HAD TO REPLACE THE CALIPER, PADS AND RESURFACE THE ROTOR. YESTERDAY MY REAR DRIVER-SIDE CALIPER FAILED WHILE DRIVING LOCALLY. I ONLY HAVE 38K MILES ON THIS JEEP AND DO NOT DRIVE OFF-ROAD. JEEP IS PRISTINE, WELL MAINTAINED AND USED SPARINGLY. SEARCHING NHTSA DATABASE I SAW SEVERAL SIMILAR REPORTS AND ALL REPORTED PROBLEMS INVOLVED 2008 JEEP WRANGLER, HOWEVER NO RECALL OR TSB?!? HOW MANY REPORTS DOES NHTSA NEED TO CONNECT THE DOTS HERE? I'M SO THANKFUL MY DAUGHTER WASN'T DRIVING, AS SHE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO RECOVER THE VEHICLE DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 37 YEARS & NEVER HAD A VEHICLE HAVE A SINGLE CALIPER FAILURE AND NOW IT'S HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN TWO WEEKS ON THE SAME VEHICLE. THERE ARE LESS THAN 3K MILES DRIVEN ON THESE BRAKE PADS. *TR
WHILE PARKING MY JEEP IN A PARKING GARAGE, THE FRONT BRAKE LINE SNAPPED DURING A TURN. THE BROKEN LINE OCCURRED WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE FROM THE ENGINE. I LOST ALL ABILITY TO BRAKE AND LOST ALL BRAKE FLUID. ONLY EMERGENCY BRAKE WOULD WORK. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALER FOR COSTLY REPAIR TO INCLUDE REPLACING FRONT BRAKE PADS BECAUSE BRAKE FLUID RUINED THEM. VERY LUCKY I WAS IN A PARKING GARAGE AND NOT ON A MAJOR ROAD DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEED. *TR

THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THE BRAKE HOSE WAS WORN FROM RUBBING AGAINST THE SHOCKS AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKES HAD ALSO FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.
THE ESP, BAS, ABS, AND AIRBAG LIGHTS ARE ALL ON. WHEN YOU START DRIVING THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE AND IT HESITATES TO GO. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING IT STARTS TO CLUNK AND IT IS HARD TO STEER. AT TIMES IT IS LIKE YOU ARE DRAGGING THE REAR END. AND AT TIMES IT EVEN FEELS LIKE YOU ARE DRAGGING THE REAR END SIDEWAYS.
DURING STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION LOCAL GARAGE DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE LINE HAD BEEN WORN THROUGH FROM THE FRONT TIRE RUBBING ON IT WHEN WHEELS TURNED TO THE LEFT. GARAGE SUGGESTED CHECKING WITH JEEP DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF A RECALL WAS IN AFFECT. TOOK VEHICLE TO JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND SERVICE MANAGER SAID NO RECALL WAS IN AFFECT HOWEVER JEEP HAD PUBLISHED A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS ISSUE AND RE-DESIGNED THE BRAKE LINES AFFECTED. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE ISSUE WAS FROM ROAD MOISTURE/DEBRIS SEEPING THROUGH THE RUBBER BOOTS COVERING THE BRAKE LINE FITTINGS WHICH CAUSED EXCESS CORROSION TO BUILD WITHIN THE RUBBER BOOTS TRIGGERING THE BOOTS TO "SWELL" CAUSING THE CONTACT WITH THE TIRE. THERE WAS AN INFERENCE MADE BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE VEHICLE'S TIRES MAY HAVE ATTRIBUTED TO THIS FROM THEIR TREAD DESIGN HOWEVER THE TIRE SIZE MATCHES THE MANUFACTURER SPECS ON THE LABEL INSIDE THE DOOR JAM. APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY DESIGN OF THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER BRAKE LINES. *TR
WHEN I ARRIVED HOME AND WAS IN THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY, I SET THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. SOMETHING SNAPPED, AFTER WHICH THE BRAKE CLEARLY CEASED TO FUNCTION (I COULD NOT SET IT). FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT HAPPEN IN A SITUATION WHEN I ACTUALLY NEEDED TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN WITH ANY VEHICLE I EVER OWNED. *TR
WHILE PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE THE HAND BRAKE WAS SET. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD, I PUT THE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND RESET THE HAND BRAKE MORE FIRMLY ONLY TO HEAR A SNAP AND THE HANDLE HAD ZERO RESISTANCE. THE SPRING BROKE INTERNALLY. I HAD THE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND ENGINE OFF SO IT DID NOT ROLL FORWARD ANY MORE, BUT LOOKING ONLINE HAVE DISCOVERED THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND IF THE HAND BRAKE IS NEED MAY EASILY FAIL - IT DID NOT TAKE A HARD PULL TO BREAK THE SPRING. MY CONCERN IS THE USE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION OR VERY STEEP INCLINES WHERE THE HAND BRAKE MAY BE REQUIRED. *TR

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE WHEELS HAD BECOME ABNORMALLY HOT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BURNS TO THREE OF HIS FINGERS FROM TOUCHING THE WHEELS. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS OVERHEATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CALIPER AND ALSO THE TWO REAR CALIPERS ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,619. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,300.

THE LEVER THEN FRACTURED IN THE CONTACT'S HAND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, AN INSPECTION WAS NOT PERFORMED. OCTOBER 2010 I REPLACED REAR BRAKES AT 20,000 THOUGHT WAS STRANGE MY WHOLE OWNED ABOUT 18 VEHICLES NEVER REPLACED REAR BRAKES NOT EVEN TRAVELING THE MOUNTAIN ANYMORE. MY LAST VISIT TO CHRYSLER THEY TOLD ME I WAS GONNA NEED REAR BRAKES AT 40,000 NOW THIS IS CRAZY TOLD THEM TO LOOK INTO THIS DUE TO GO BACK NEXT WEEK INSANE TO REPLACE REAR BRAKES EVERY 20,000. *TR
FUEL OVERFLOWS WHEN REFUELING. OVERFLOW OCCURS EVEN WITHOUT FILLING THE TANK. PARKING BRAKE DOESN'T WORK UNLESS YOU PULL IT UP VERY HARD AND STILL DOESN'T KEEP IT FROM ROLLING. AIR CONDITIONER DOESN'T COOL. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES FOR REPAIR. BLOWS "SMOKE" FROM VENTS. A LOUD "KNOCK" SOUND WHEN YOU TURN THE A/C ON/OFF OR WHEN YOU CRANK THE VEHICLE AND THE A/C CONTROL IS ON. SOFT TOP LEAKS OVER BOTH DOORS WHEN IT RAINS. SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS CONFIRMED PROPER TOP INSTALLATION. SHARP EDGES ON THE ROLL BARS. ROLL BAR COVERS HAVE RIPPED AS A RESULT OF PUTTING THE TOP UP OR DOWN. DANGEROUS "WOBBLE" WHEN YOU HIT A SMALL POTHOLE, CHANGE UNEVEN LANES, ETC. HOOD LIFTS APPROX. 2 INCHES WHEN A LARGE TRUCK OR TRAILER PASSES OR MEETS THE JEEP. MANUAL TRANSMISSION "GRINDS OR CATCHES" WHEN SHIFTING INTO 2ND GEAR, WORSE WHEN COLD. *TR
INTERMITTENTLY, AFTER DRIVING, I NOTICED THAT THERE IS A BRAKE BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE REAR LEFT WHEEL. THE DIAGNOSIS IS A STUCK CALIBER (PISTON). THERE ARE OTHER RECALLS ON JEEP BRAKE PISTONS, HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY ASSURED ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. MY RESEARCH ON THE JEEP WRANGLER FORUMS INDICATE THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE (STUCK PISTON) WITH THE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS LEAVING A FRIENDS HOME WHO LIVES IN THE HILLS ABOVE MALIBU BEACH CALIFORNIA. THE STREET SHE WAS TRAVELING DOWN IS TRAMONTO DRIVE. SHE GOT NO FURTHER THAN 4 HOUSES AWAY, AND BEING TRAMONTO IS A HILL WITH SOME MILD TWISTS AND TURNS, SHE WENT TO BRAKE. THERE WERE NO BRAKES. SHE TRIED TO PRESS HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP. SHE HIT A MAILBOX AS WELL AS A PARKED CAR AS SHE HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET HER CAR TO STOP. THERE WAS A WITNESS WHO WAS RIGHT BEHIND HER WHO COULD TELL THAT SOMETHING WAS HAPPENING WITH THE CAR. OUR DAUGHTER PULLED THE ER BRAKE, AND SKID HITTING AND TAKING OUT TWO MAILBOXES AND THE BUMPER OF A CAR. THE TOTAL DISTANCE SHE HAD DRIVEN....4 HOUSES...THE BRAKE PEDDLE WOULDN'T DEPRESS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND ADDED BRAKE FLUID TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG WANING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE BRAKE TUBE DUE TO THE STEERING SHAFT RUBBING AGAINST THE TUBE. THE BRAKE LINE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THE CLOCK SPRING FOR THE AIR BAGS WAS FRACTURED AND WOULD ALSO NEED REPLACING. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 08V202000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS) AND 11V528000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN EITHER RECALL. THE BRAKE LINE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE CLOCK SPRING WAS NOT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE I NOTICED THE PARKING BRAKE DID NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE IN PLACE LIKE IT SHOULD. UPON PARKING ONE EVENING, I MUST HAVE LEFT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL BUT I HAD SET THE BRAKE FULLY. IN THE MORNING, MY JEEP HAD DRIFTED FORWARD INTO MY OTHER VEHICLE, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGES TO BOTH. THE DEALER CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND CLAIMED NOTHING WAS WRONG. TO THIS DATE, AND MILEAGE (60,000) THE BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE ON THE SLIGHTEST OF GRADE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED WAS DRIVING 30 MPH, WHEN THE BRAKES BEGAN EXHIBITING A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE PAD HAD DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE CALIPERS AND ROTORS AS A RESULT OF THE INITIAL FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THE NECESSARY PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE BELIEVED THE VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE AND WAS CONCERNED WITH THE FAILURE RECURRING ON A DIFFERENT BRAKE PAD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS DEFECTIVE AND WHEN ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO ROLL BACKWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE MECHANISM INSIDE THE PARKING BRAKE HAD FRACTURED. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE HAND BRAKE YET ONE WEEK LATER, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AS THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER THEN ADJUSTED THE TENSION ON THE HAND BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO THEN PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND CONFIRMED THAT THE LUBRICANT FROM THE AXLE SEAL WAS LEAKING FLUID. THE FLUID WAS DRIPPING ONTO THE SHOES WHICH PREVENTED THE PARKING BRAKE FROM FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SAFETY RECALL REPAIRS *TGW WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AT HER NEAREST DEALER, SHE WAS INFORMED THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY WERE SERVICING THE CUSTOMERS WHO PURCHASED THEIR VEHICLE FROM THERE FIRST. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THEY COULD NOT OFFER HER AN APPOINTMENT AND TO CALL BACK IN TWO WEEKS. WHEN THE CONSUMER DID GET AND APPOINTMENT, SHE WAITED TWO HOURS ONLY TO BE TOLD THE PART WAS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE INNER FENDER LINER WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE BRAKE LINE AND CAUSED AN GROOVE TO THE BRAKE LINE. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V236000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE POTENTIAL SAFETY RISK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,000.
THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE E- BRAKE. THE BRAKE HAS BEEN ADJUSTED IN THE PAST BY THE DEALER. THE CAR ROLLS WITH THE E-BRAKE ON AND IN FIRST GEAR UNLESS THE BRAKE IS PULLED UP EXTREMELY TIGHT. *TR
