THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
VALVE SEAT DROPPED INTO #4 CYLINDER HEAD ON A WARM RESTART. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY & NOT OVERHEATED. VEHICLE WAS AT REST IN A PARKING LOT. CATASTROPHIC ENGINE FAILURE FOLLOWED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COIL PACKS WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND AN ABNORMAL WARNING CHIME WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT OPERABLE. THE FAILURES OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE 3.7 LITER ENGINE HAD A KNOWN ISSUE AND A VEHICLE WITH A 4.0 LITER ENGINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PURCHASED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 153,000.

AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT A PIECE FRACTURED FROM THE ENGINE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ENGINE REVVED DOWN, PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY CALLED TOW TRUCK. TOOK INTO DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE TIMING CHAIN HAD BROKE AND ENGINE WAS NO GOOD. REPLACING MOTOR DUE TO STILL HAVING A WARRANTY ON IT. HOPING THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN WITH THE REPLACEMENT ENGINE. I HAVE NOTICED ON FORUMS THAT HAS HAPPENED TO NUMEROUS OTHERS WONDERING WHY NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. OIL CHANGES WERE ALL ON TIME AND PLUGS AND WIRES CHANGED AT RECOMMENDED TIME. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AN ENGINE WITH 105000 MILES. *TR

THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE FAULTY VALVE SEATS FAILED AND DESTROYED MY ENGINE WHICH LEFT ME STRANDED WHILE TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN. ENGINEERS KNOW THE DESIGN WAS FAULTY AS REVISION TO ADDRESS THIS SITUATION WERE MADE IN 2008 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM FOR THE NEWER MODELS. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED FOR THE EARLIER MODELS TO HAVE THE REVISED SEATS INSTALLED. THIS IS NEGLIGENT AND WILL HURT THE CHRYSLER NAME IF NOT ADDRESSED SOON. I HAD JUST PULLED OF THE HIGHWAY TO REFUEL WITH NO INDICATION OF ANY PROBLEMS. THE JEEP WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER FILLING THE TANK.

I RECEIVED THIS RECALL THIS MONTH HOWEVER, THIS JEEP HAD THREE INSTANCES OF LOSING ENGINE POWER BY LAST NOVEMBER 2014. WHEN WE CALLED THE HOTLINE THEN, AFTER GOING TO A DEALSHIP THREE TIMES, NOONE AT CHRYSLER COULD OR WOULD HELP US SO THIS VEHICLE WAS TRADED AT A DEALERSHIP AT A SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER PRICE . QUITE HONESTLY, WE WANTED TO KEEP IT AND NOT TAKE ON CAR PAYMENTS SO I THINK CHRYSLER SHOULD PAY US MONEY. WHILE I THINK VW LYING ABOUT FUEL AND CATALYTIC CONVERTERS IS WRONG, I DON'T THINK THAT WOULD HAVE ENDANGERED MY SON'S LIFE LIKE THIS DID. THREE TIMES HE LOST POWER WHICH WAS UNACCEPTABLE AND AFTER THE WAY THIS WAS HANDLED, THERE WILL BE NO MORE CHRYSLER PRODUCTS FOR US.

I AM NOW GOING ON MY 3RD INCIDENT WITH THIS PROBLEM! I LOSE ALL LIGHTS AND GAUGES ON MY DASHBOARD. HEAT TURNS OFF AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, MY IGNITION TURNED OFF ON ME AND MADE A GRINDING SOUND AND I HAD TO PULL OVER. EACH TIME I HAD CARS BEHIND ME AND THANKFULLY NEITHER I NOR THE CAR BEHIND ME WERE INJURED. ALL THE LIGHTS FLICKER AND GAUGES GO ALL THE WAY DOWN TO WHERE I CAN NOT TELL HOW FAST I AM GOING. MY MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS ON FEBRUARY 28TH, 2015, I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN IT WAS MY TURN TO GO MY LIGHTS FLICKERED FOR A SECOND THEN ALL GAUGES WENT DOWN AND THE GRINDING STARTED, IT WAS AS IF I WAS TRYING TO DRIVE ON NEUTRAL, SO I THEN MOVED TO THE SIDE BECAUSE I HAD A CAR BEHIND ME AND THE CAR STOPPED. I SHUT IT OFF COMPLETELY AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE TURNING IT BACK ON. I DRIVE ON THE EXPRESSWAY 60 MILES A DAY TO AND FROM WORK, I AM SCARED OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK MY CAR PREVIOUSLY TO AUTO ZONE TO SEE WHY MY ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND THEY CHECKED IT AND GAVE ME A CODE OF U1411. I LOOKED IT UP AND IT HAS TO DO WITH THE IGNITION RECALL THAT WAS SENT TO ME ABOUT MY CAR. I HAVE ALSO CALLED A FEW DEALERS TO SEE IF THE PART IS IN AND WAS TOLD NO. I HAVE A 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I'M SCARED TO HAVE HER IN THE CAR WITH ME BECAUSE OF THIS! I NEED FOR SOMETHING TO BE DONE ASAP! *TR
I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF SINCE 2010. I GOOGLED ISSUE AND IT SEEMED OTHERS HAD SAME ISSUE AND OFFERED OTHER SUGGESTIONS OTHER THAN IGNITION. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE STATING THAT IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE AND RECALLED BACK IN LATTER PART OF 2014. I CONTACTED MCKINNEY TEXAS DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE REPLACEMENT PART AND WAS NOT AWARE OF WHEN THEY WOULD RECEIVE THEM. I EMAILED CHRYSLER IN NOVEMBER WITH ISSUE, I RECEIVED AN EMAIL STATING THEY WOULD PUT ME ON A LIST TO BE CONTACTED WHEN PART IS AVAILABLE.I EMAILED THEM AGAIN IN FEBRUARY WITH THE REPLY FROM THEM OF A SIMPLE WE DO NOT HAVE AN ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL ON PARTS. I DID EXPRESS THAT MY VEHICLE DOES HAVE THE ISSUE AND I AM CONCERNED. I DO NOT WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO A FAULTY PART AND PERSONALLY FEEL THAT IF YOU ARE REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY EITHER FIX MY VEHICLE OR GIVE ME A VEHICLE THAT IS SAFE. STARTED DECEMBER 2013. WHEN COLD OUTSIDE, JEEP WON'T DOWNSHIFT. GOING ABOUT 40MPH & JEEP STAYS AT 3,000RPM'S (OR HIGHER). WHEN AT STOP SIGN/RED LIGHT & I TRY TO GO IT REVS TO 3000RPM'S BUT ONLY GOES ABOUT 10MPH. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY REACH 30MPH-40MPH IT WON'T DOWN SHIFT. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED SEVERAL TIMES. TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC LAST YEAR & PUT $700 INTO IT. WAS FINE ALL SPRING & SUMMER BUT YESTERDAY WAS THE FIRST DAY THE TEMPS DROPPED INTO THE 30'S & IT HAS STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE RANDOMLY LOST ENGINE POWER, ESSENTIALLY SHUTTING THE CAR DOWN. THIS HAPPENED AT LEAST TEN TIMES OVER THE SPAN OF A FEW YEARS. EACH VISIT THE DEALER TO GET SERVICE WAS WORTHLESS AS THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR A FIX. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT NIGHT AND MY VEHICLE DIED ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS CROSSING JUST AT THAT MOMENT THERE WAS A TRAIN APPROACHING AND I FREAKED OUT BUT WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. I WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO POWER. IT WAS LIKE I TURNED THE CAR OFF. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND RESTART IT. ONCE I RESTART IT, IT USUALLY DOESN'T HAPPEN FOR AWHILE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR A DAY OR TWO AND THEN CLEAR OUT. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED BEFORE AND THE CODES COME UP AS "COMMUNICATION ERROR" BUT NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE EXACT ERROR. HAS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE 2011 BUT HAS NOW REACHED THE STAGE WHERE THE CAR WON'T START. *TR
I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL REPORTS OF THIS SO FIGURED I WOULD SEND A COPY OF THIS TO YOU AS WELL ENGINE DEVELOPED A STRONG MISS AND LACK OF POWER DUE TO RUNNING ON 7 CYLINDERS. DEALER DETERMINED THAT THERE WERE BURNT VALVES PLUS SIGNIFICANT SLUDGING OF THE OIL PASSAGES. DEALER ALSO SUSPECTED A CRACK IN THE HEAD OR BLOCK, ALLOWING CONTAMINATION OF OIL AND COOLANT. CONSIDERING THE VEHICLE HAS RUN FINE AND BEEN MAINTAINED PROPERLY OVER THE LAST 14 MONTHS THERE IS A CHANCE THE CRACKING MAY HAVE BEEN A DEFECT THAT TOOK UNTIL NOW TO CAUSE ENOUGH DAMAGE TO BECOME A PROBLEM. *TR

I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 8/2012 FOR MY DAUGHTER TO GET TO COLLEGE. IT IS A 900 MILE TRIP AND WOULD BE USED FOR LOCAL CAMPUS DRIVING UNTIL HER RETURN IN 4/2013. WE BOUGHT THE CAR WITH THE HOPE OF GETTING 3 YEARS USE OUT OF IT. ON HER INITIAL TRIP DOWN ROUTE 95 SO. I RECEIVED A CALL AT 1 AM FROM HER IN SC TELLING ME THE CAR SHUT DOWN AT 70 MPH. THE WHEEL LOCKED UP AND SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND FORTUNATELY WITH THE HELP OF HER PASSENGER FORCED THE WHEEL TO MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER. THANK GOD A TRACTOR TRAILED WAS NOT BEHIND HER! I TOLD HER TO WAIT AND TRY TO START THE CAR. IT STARTED A HALF HOUR LATER. THIS EPISODE CONTINUED UNTIL SHE ARRIVED AT SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY. A 15 HOUR TRIP TOOK 21 HOURS. SHE WAS FRIGHTENED TO DEATH. WE CONTACTED THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE VALVE BODY OF THE TRANSMISSION WHICH WE REPLACED ($2100). AS IT TURNS OUT ON THE RETURN TRIP THE CAR TRANSMISSION WAS OVER HEATING AND THE SHUTTING DOWN SCENARIO CONTINUED. WE BROUGHT IT TO A LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER HERE IN NJ AND THEY TOLD US THERE WAS PROBLEM IN THE ENGINE AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT APART IN ORDER TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I STOPPED RIGHT THERE. I FOUND OUT THROUGH MY LOCAL MECHANIC OF 20 YEARS THAT HE READ THE BULLETIN ON THE ENGINE PROBLEMS FROM CHRYSLER. EXHAUST MANIFOLDS LEAK, POTENTIALLY INTRODUCING EXHAUST GASES, INCLUDING CARBON MONOXIDE, INTO THE PASSENGER AREA. I INITIALLY TOOK MY VEHICLE TO LITHIA DODGE IN SANTA FE, NM TO REPORT AN EXHAUST LEAK THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE AND WAS TO BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY ONLY REPAIRED THE PASSENGER SIDE WITHOUT APPARENTLY PERFORMING A LEAK CHECK. THE FIX FOR THIS IS TO REPLACE THE OEM GASKET WITH ONE THAT INCORPORATES METAL TO APPARENTLY COMPENSATE FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE DISSIMILAR METALS OF THE HEAD/EXHAUST MANIFOLD. SINCE THERE IS A DEFECT, THE GASKETS LEAK, AND THE UNEVEN EXPANSION CAUSES THE BOLTS/STUDS TO BREAK, EXACERBATING THE PROBLEM. AFTER THE REPAIR THE SOUND SEEMED SIMILAR BUT I ASSUMED IT MUST BE INJECTOR OR VALVE/LIFTER NOISE. RECENTLY I HAD MY TRANSMISSION SERVICED BY A LOCAL SHOP AND THEY NOTED THAT I HAD AN EXHAUST LEAK. AGAIN I LISTENED AND IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM PASSENGER SIDE. THIS TIME WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE MECHANIC PERFORMED AN INSPECTION AND FOUND THE DRIVER'S SIDE TO BE LEAKING. AGAIN HE ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE OEM GASKET WITH THE UPGRADED GASKET, BUT IN THE PROCESS BROKE A STUD OFF IN THE HEAD AND WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR WITHOUT EXCESS EXPENSE, NOW NOT UNDER WARRANTY, OF COURSE. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE OTHER SIDE WAS LEAKING AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR IT, BUT THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS NOT LEAKING. IT'S OBVIOUS THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS THERE IS A DEFECT, SINCE THEY ISSUED AN UPGRADED GASKET. THESE VEHICLES WITH THE 4.7L V8 SHOULD BE RECALLED AND THE PROPER GASKET INSTALLED. MAXIMUM BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL TO PREVENT THE JEEP FROM GOING INTO TRAFFIC. AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL THE ENGINE RPM WENT AS HIGH 4500 RPM (NORMAL ENGINE RPM AT IDLE IN GEAR IS ABOUT 700 RPM). ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE JEEP WAS BROUGHT TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM. THE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAULT WITH THE VEHICLE (NO FAULT CODES OR ANY ABNORMAL BEHAVIOR). HAD TOWED TO MECHANIC. 17 MONTHS INTO A 36 MONTH WARRANTY WITH 20,000 MILES ON THIS ENGINE, VALVE SPRING BROKE CAUSING ENTIRE ENGINE DAMAGE. JASPER IS REPLACING THIS ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. ACCORDING TO JASPER, THEY HAVE REPLACED THREE ENGINES IN LAST THREE MONTHS DUE TO VALVE SPRING BREAKAGE. VALVE SPRING HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED. I DROVE THROUGH SOME HEAVY RAIN AT APPROXIMATELY 3 P.M. ON DECEMBER 24, 2009. MY 2006 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE QUIT. I HAD TO HAVE IT DECEMBER 28, 2009 I HAD IT TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP. OVER THE CHRISTMAS WEEK END, TWO MECHANICS ADVISED THE ENGINE HAD HYDROLOCKED. THE SHOP OWNER ADVISED THAT IT HAD HYDROLOCKED. THEN AFTER FILING AN INSURANCE CLAIM, HE ADVISED IT WAS NOT WATERT BUT HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TALKED TO A SERVICE ADVISER AND SHE ADVISED IT HAD HYDROLODGED, A COMMON OCCURRENCE, COVERED BY INSURANCE. THEN, AFTER I TOOK IT THERE THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER WANTED THE ENGINE TORN DOWN AT MY EXPENSE. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE ONE DAY AND IT TOOK FOUR. THE MECHANIC ADVISED IT WAS NOT WATER BUT HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT. HE ADVISED THE SERVICE ADVISER IT DAMAGED THE STARTER, THE WATER PUMP, THE FIRST PISTON, NUMEROUS VALVE SPRINGS, AND CRACKED THE BLOCK. THIS IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. IT CAN NOT BE DRIVEN IN WATER. IN JULY AND OCTOBER IT STALLED IN WATER AND STARTED AGAIN. THIS JEEP HAS A MERCEDES ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION AND A EUROPEAN BATTERY. IT WAS NOT DISCLOSED WHEN I BOUGHT IT. THE BATTERY CAN NOT BE JUMPED. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED THE NIGHT THE BATTERY QUIT, FROM A RURAL AREA. IT IS NOT A MOPAR PRODUCT. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL BATTERY. WHILE I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT TODAY I WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED WITH MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I FELT THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SURGE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANY INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED "MAJOR INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE" AND REPLACED WITH NEW ENGINE. ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER RATTLING SOUND TURNED OUT TO BE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. STILL WAITING FOR THE PART. SUV STILL DOES NOT DRIVE 100%. SOMETIMES WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS THE TRUCK DOES NOT RESPOND RIGHT AWAY. *JB
MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2006 JEEP WK 4X4 ON FEB 20 2006. AS SOON AS WE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITH 150 MILES ON IT THE AIR BAGS MALFUNCTIONED AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED. ABOUT 1 WEEK AFTER THE REPAIRS THEY MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN AND WHERE FIXED AGAIN ONLY TO MALFUNCTION 2 MORE TIMES AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS AND CLEARED THE CODES. AT THE 3000 MILE SERVICE THERE WAS AN OIL LEAK ON THE FRONT CRANK SEAL WHICH WAS REPLACED. IT HAS ALSO BEEN IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES DUE TO AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT IN WHICH CASE THERE WAS A MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WHERE NO PROBLEMS AND CLEARED THE CODE EVERY TIME ONLY FOR IT TO COME BACK ON. I JUST PICKED MY VEHICLE UP FROM THE DEALER AGAIN BECAUSE THE CRANK PULLEY AND DAMPENER WHERE WOBBLING REAL BAD AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN FOR THE SAME REASON. ALL REPAIRS WHERE MADE AND AFTER I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP 15 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS WHEN I'M STOPPED AND SHIFTS REAL HARD. THE DEALERSHIP SAID ITS FINE AND THERE IS NOW EVIDENCE OF THAT. ALL THESE INCIDENTS ARE ONGOING SINCE THE DAY IT WAS PURCHASED. *JB
