Your engine suddenly surges to 5,000-6,000 RPMs when you're braking at stop signs or lights, as if the gas pedal is being floored while your foot is on the brake. You can regain control by pushing the brake harder, shifting to neutral, and tapping the gas, after which the engine returns to normal idle. This has happened multiple times per year since you purchased the van, and even occurred once while putting the van in reverse.

During timing belt service, your mechanic found that while the belt itself wasn't damaged, the timing belt tensioner was misaligned with one bolt broken and another bolt missing entirely. This suggests the tensioner wasn't properly secured to the engine. The tensioner will need to be repositioned and secured with new bolts to ensure proper belt tension and timing.

ENGINE MOUNT FAILURE, LOOKING AT A 2000 DOLLAR REPAIR TO REPLACE, SEEMS IS A COMMON PROBLEM NEEDS ATTENTION. HAS CAUSED AN ADDITIONAL MOUNT TO FAIL , AND IS AFFECTING THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTS AS WELL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT OPENED THE HOOD AND NOTICED A GAPING HOLE IN THE ENGINE BLOCK FROM WHERE THE IGNITION COIL AND SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE. THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000.

MY HONDA ODYSSEY IS BURNING TOO MUCH OIL THAN IT SHOULD. I AM NEEDING TO ADD 1 QUART EVERY 2 WEEKS IF THAT AS IT IS ALREADY DOWN 1 QUART. IT IS REGULARLY ON TIME GOING IN FOR OIL CHANGES AND HAS BEEN SERVICED SINCE I'VE BOUGHT IT IN 2015. IT HAS HAD MANY OTHER ISSUES AND HAS BEEN REPAIRED. NOW THIS IS SEEMINGLY A PROBLEM. THE OIL PERCENTAGE IS NOT TELLING ME THAT IT IS LOW OR NONE AT ALL. NO OIL DUMMY LIGHTS HAVE COME ON WHEN I HAVE NOT A DROP OF OIL. I HAVE SWITCHED AND USED HIGH MILEAGE OIL RATHER THAN CONVENTIONAL AND GO EVERY 3,000 MILES & EVEN DID A TREATMENT RECENTLY. NOTHING IS DOING THE JOB.

TORQUE CONVERTER GOING IN THE TRANSMISSION. I SEE THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THAT HONDA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS AND HAS DONE A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT NO RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR.
DEALER SAID 2 ENGINE MOUNTS BAD. THE FRONT ONE, IS OVER $500 JUST FOR THE PART. TWO ISSUES: HOW WAS IT DETERMINED THIS PART WAS BAD AND WITH SUCH A SIGNIFICANT PRICE FOR ONE OF THEM (THERE ARE TWO ON THIS MODEL), I TAKE ISSUE WITH THE OBVIOUSLY FLAWED DESIGN. I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING LEGAL ACTION REFERENCING BOTH THE ABOVE ISSUES. MY BIGGEST CONCERN IS A FAULT DESIGN TO DRIVE SERVICE SALES LATER IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.

ONE MORNING AS WE WERE STARTED UP THE ENGINE I NOTICED A SOMEWHAT LOUD NOISE AS IS THE MUFFLER HAD A HOLE IN IT. I DROVE IT FOR AWHILE AND NOTICED AT THIS POINT THAT THE NOISE WAS HEARD AS WE ACCELERATED AND WHEN THE CAR WENT INTO ECO MODE. I HAD STOOD OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHILE MY WIFE DROVE AWAY BUT DID NOT NOTICE ANY NOISE. THOUGHT THIS WAS STRANGE. I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALER ON A RECALL, FUEL PUMP, AND ASKED FOR THEM TO LOOK UNDER IT. THEY REPORTED THAT IT WAS THE MOTOR MOUNT THAT WAS WORN DOWN. I SEE THAT HONDA ODYSSEY, 2005 (OUR YEAR MODEL) THROUGH 2007 HAS THIS PROBLEM. IS THERE ANY TYPE OF ACTION THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO HAVE HONDA REPAIR THIS INCIDENT WITHOUT THE COST COMING FROM ME. *TR
SUMMER OF 2014 MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS LOSING POWER ON THE ROAD TO THE POINT I HAD TO BE TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. TURNED OUT I WAS LOW ON OIL WITH NO LEAKS AT ALL AND NOT DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE. THIS IS VERY STRESSFUL ON MY ENGINE. MY VAN IS ONLY USED FOR LOCAL TRAVEL, ABOUT 20 MILES PER DAY AND I HAVE BEEN NEEDING TO ADD OIL ABOUT ONCE PER MONTH, STILL WITH NO LEAKS. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT FOR HONDA ODYSSEYS 2008-2013 FOR EXCESSIVE OIL BURNING, ENTERING THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL AT NORMAL OPERATING SPEEDS AND CONDITIONS. IN FACT, IF YOUR COMMUTE DOESN'T CONSIST OF CLIMBING THROUGH THE ROCKIES, YOU'RE PROBABLY GOING TO SEE MORE OIL CONSUMPTION THAN NORMAL. I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF HONDA'S OWNERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH HONDA VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2000 - 2012. THE ENGINE MOUNTS ON HONDA VEHICLES, ESPECIALLY THE ODYSSEY, BREAK EASILY AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW THAT HONDA HAS NEGLECTED TO CORRECT. ENGINE MOUNTS SHOULD NOT BREAK AT ABOUT 50,000 MILES. THEY SHOULD LAST EVEN MUCH LONGER THAN 100,000 MILES. THE COST OF REPLACING THE ENGINE MOUNT RUNS AT APPROXIMATELY $1000/MOUNT, WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. PLEASE HELP LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. ALSO IDENTIFIED REAR ENGINE MOUNT TO BE CLOSE TO NEEDING REPLACEMENT. CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING THE ENGINE MOUNTS. I THEN STARTED TO INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM TO FIND MANY ARTICLES ON HOW THE REAR MOTOR MOUNT FAILS ON VEHICLES WITH AS LITTLE AS 50,000 MILES. THE DEALER STATES THIS IS A DRIVABILITY ISSUE AND THE VEHICLE WILL BE FINE WITH A NEW MOTOR MOUNT AT THE TUNE OF $700. I HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD A MOTOR MOUNT ISSUE. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM WHEN THE MOUNT FAILS THE ENGINE DOES NOT JUST RISE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BUT BEGINS TO VIBRATE WITH THE VEHICLES TIRES IN MOTION. *TR
I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY HONDA ODYSSEY. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD HONDA CARS AND HAVE FOUND THEM TO BE RELIABLE UNTIL NOW. AFTER READING ALL OF THE RECALLS ON MY PERSONAL VEHICLE, I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT 90% OF THE RECALLS OR COMPLAINTS HAVE HAPPENED WITH MY CAR AS WELL. MOST FRUSTRATING IS THE ENGINE MOTOR MOUNTS. BRAKES, TIRES, AND VIBRATION WHEN REACHING 60 MILES PER HOUR HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AN ISSUE. AFTER SPENDING LOTS OF MONEY ON THESE ISSUES OVER THE YEARS, IT SEEMS THAT TWO BROKEN ENGINE MOTOR MOUNTS AS WELL AS ONE MORE CRACKED ONE COULD BE THE REASON. MY CAR DOESN'T SEEM SAFE AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HONDA WILL NOT LISTEN TO THE COMPLAINTS OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THE MORE I TALK WITH OTHERS, THE MORE I REALIZE HOW BIG OF A PROBLEM THIS IS. I HOPE THAT SOMEONE DECIDES TO TAKE THIS ISSUE FURTHER. IT IS A SHAME THAT A CAR MANUFACTURER CAN NOT OWN UP TO SOMETHING THAT IS CLEARLY THEIR FAULT LIKE INADEQUATE ENGINE MOUNTS. TODAY I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT MY FRONT AND SIDE ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN. I WAS STUNNED BECAUSE MY MINIVAN IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD BOUGHT BRAND NEW. I ONLY DRIVE THE VAN UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS TO AND FROM SCHOOL ACTIVITIES FOR MY KIDS. IT SEEMS TO ME A SUBSTANTIAL CAR PART SUCH AS THE ENGINE MOUNTS SHOULD NOT BE BREAKING AT 87,000 MILES. SUBSEQUENTLY, I HAVE TALKED TO A FEW FRIENDS THAT HAVE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THEIR ODYSSEY AND I SEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND DISCOVERED A LARGE NUMBER OF CAR FORUMS NOTING THEY HAD SIMILAR ENGINE MOUNT PROBLEMS WITH THEIR HONDA ODYSSEYS THAT WERE UNDER 100,000 MILES. IT SEEMS TO ME THERE MUST BE SOME SORT OF DEFECT OR POOR QUALITY CONTROL OF THESE ENGINE MOUNTS. I AM FORMALLY REGISTERING A COMPLAINT OVER THE QUALITY OF THE ENGINE MOUNTS. THANK YOU. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO MANIFOLD HEAT SHIELDS REPLACEMENT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED DURING A SERVICE VISIT AT THE DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THE MANIFOLD HEAT SHIELDS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BECAUSE THE SCREWS HOLDING THEM ON WERE RUSTING. THE CONSUMER STATED NO ONE COULD ANSWER HIM, AS TO WHY STAINLESS STEEL SCREWS WERE NOT USED.

WITH NO PRIOR WARNING THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE. WHEN PULLED OVER, CAR WAS SMOKING UNDER HOOD AND ALL FLUID POURED OUT OF THE BOTTOM. HAD CAR TOWED TO MECHANIC. "BLOWN OR CRACKED" HEAD GASKET WAS HIS DIAGNOSIS. HAD CAR TOWED TO SHOP TO HAVE REPAIRED. AFTER TWO WEEKS IN THE SHOP, THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR WAS STILL LEAKING ANTIFREEZE INTO THE OIL AND THAT THERE IS A POROUS LEAK SOMEWHERE IN THE ENGINE. THIS CAR IS NOT ABUSED AND I HAVE REGULAR OIL CHANGES WITH FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL. THIS IS JUST ICING ON THE CAKE. I WAS EXCITED TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE HONDA HAS SUCH A GREAT NAME. IN THE SUMMER OF 2009 I HAD TO REPAIR THE AIR CONDITIONING ($900) AND REPLACE WHEEL BEARINGS ($300). THIS WAS JUST A FEW MONTHS AFTER I REPLACED THE TIRES FOR THE FIRST TIME ($2000). (PURCHASED VEHICLE USED IN 2008 W/ 35000 MILES) IN 2010 IT WAS TIME FOR TIRES AGAIN (NOT EVEN 20K MILES LATER). I DEPAXED THEM FOR $2000 AND AM STILL RUNNING ON THIS SAME SET OF TIRES. IT SEEMS THAT THE ENGINE PROBLEM IS A DEFECT WITH HONDA AND FROM WHAT I AM READING, THEY WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED HONDA IN ANY WAY BUT WAS CURIOUS IF IT WOULD MATTER. *TR

CAR WAS PURCHASED WITH BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS, BUT IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN A CRASH. SEEMS TO BE A COMMON THEME WITH THIS ODYSSEY. PAID OVER $900 TO GET ALL 3 REPLACED AT HONDA DEALERSHIP. SEEMS TO BE A VERY POOR DESIGN. *TR
THREE DAYS AFTER PURCHASING THE ODYSSEY VAN, A SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END OCCURRED. IT WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE ELECTRONIC MOTOR MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. 1500.00 LATER, THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. ON JUNE 28, 2012, WITH 122000 MILES ON THE SAME ODYSSEY VAN, THE SAME MOTOR MOUNTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS TIME, ALL THREE NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF 2200.00. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING ALONE AROUND 30 MILES PER HOUR MY AIR CONDITION WAS BLOWING COLD AIR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN OUT OF NO WHERE IT STARTED BLOWING HOT AIR AND I THOUGHT I MAY NEED SOME FREON, BUT SINCE IT WAS CLOSE TO THE END OF SUMMER LAST YEAR I FIGURED I COULD HOLD ON UNTIL SUMMER OF THIS YEAR. I OWN A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L. HAD VEHICLE IN THE DEALERSHIP TODAY FOR VIRGINIA STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION AND THE VEHICLE FAILED DUE TO A BROKEN FRONT ENGINE MOUNT. VEHICLE HAS 105,000 MILES ON IT AND IS ONLY 5,000 MILES OUT OF EXTENDED WARRANTY. NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE THIS COMMON SAFETY FAILURE MODE FOR THE HONDA ODYSSEY. THE DEALER IS QUOTING APPROXIMATELY $700.00 TO REPLACE THESE BROKEN MOUNTS. AFTER DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH ON THE ISSUE WITH THESE CARS, I FIND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS PREVALENT IN HONDA ODYSSEY 2005 AND GREATER MODELS. HONDA CORPORATION SHOULD RECALL AND REPAIR THESE ISSUE. HONDA DEALERSHIP INDICATED THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE V6 HONDA VEHICLES, AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. ODYSSEY WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $830+TAX. I RESEARCHED ON-LINE, AND CONFIRMED THAT IT IS INDEED A COMMON OCCURRENCE, AS THERE WERE NUMEROUS POSTINGS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I TOOK THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DEALERSHIP AND CONTACTED THE HONDA CORPORATION. PERSON WHO TOOK THE CALL ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER, AND INDICATED THAT I MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT. THE PERSON WHO FOLLOWED UP 1 WEEK LATER INDICATED THAT THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, AND THEREFORE HONDA WILL NOT REIMBURSE ANY AMOUNT. THEY INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR OUT BETWEEN 80 AND 100K MILES. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES, AND NONE EVER HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT WHICH HONDA NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP FOR, AND PERFORM A RECALL FOR REPAIRS. *TR

WE OWN A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY, WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN JULY OF 2005. WE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT IN APRIL OF 2008. FIRST THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WENT OUT, THEN THERE WAS AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. WE HAD MANY OIL CHANGES AT THE DEALERSHIP AND FAITHFULLY CHANGED THE OIL WHEN THE COMPUTER IN THE CAR TOLD US TO. FOR INSTANCE, ON MAY 23RD, 2010, WE HAD A OIL CHANGE AT THE HONDA DEALER WE HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM, IN ANTICIPATION OF A 400 MILE TRIP. THE CAR STARTED ACTING UP ON OUR WAY THERE AND WE ENDED UP SPENDING THE MAJORITY OF JUNE 14TH SITTING IN A DEALERSHIP. WE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AND ALMOST MADE IT HOME BEFORE THE CAR STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN. WE LIMPED INTO THE DRIVEWAY, BUT IT REQUIRED TOWING TO THE HONDA DEALER IN SANTA CRUZ, CA FOR MORE REPAIRS. THEY ACCUSED US OF NOT MAINTAINING THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS TWO QUARTS LOW, YET WE CHECKED THE OIL BEFORE IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS FULL IN OUR DRIVEWAY. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS BECAUSE WE CHECKED THE OIL WHILE IT WAS OFF. IT WASN'T EVEN DRIVEN IN BETWEEN UNTIL THE DEALER DID DIAGNOSTIC ON IT. THEN THEY TOLD US ALL CARS NEED A VALUE ADJUSTMENT AT 80,000 MILES. WE HAVE SPOKEN REPEATEDLY WITH HONDA OF AMERICA AND HONDA CARE AND THEY HAVE REPEATEDLY ACTED SURPRISED WITH OUR PROBLEMS. IT HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES. I HAVE WORKED WITH HONDA DEALERS AND HONDA CAR FOR OVER EIGHT MONTHS, FROM JAN 2010 TO AUG 2010 WITHOUT SUCCESS. I THEN WENT TO ANOTHER HONDA DEALER AND FINALLY ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM: THE 2005 ODYSSEY VAN IS THE FIRST MODEL AND YEAR HONDA HAS PUT THE NEW V6 ENGINE WITH THREE CYLINDERS SHUTTING OFF DURING CRUISING SPEED TO SAVE GAS, WHICH MAKES SENSE. HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CYLINDERS, THE IDLING CYLINDERS BEGIN TO BURN OIL ON THE CYLINDER RINGS. AND THERE IS NO ?LOW OIL? WARNING SENSOR FROM THE CAR, BUT HAS A ?LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING?. HOWEVER, THE ?LOW OIL PRESSURE? WILL ONLY KICKS ON WITH THE CAR ENGINE STARTS TO STALL. HONDA HAS BEEN DENYING ANY PROBLEM UNTIL THEY LIMITED RELEASE A NEW SOFTWARE IN JANUARY, 2011 TO PERIODICALLY FIRE THE IDLE CYLINDERS TO MINIMIZE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CYLINDERS SO THAT THEY WILL NOT BURN MOTOR OIL. HOWEVER, HONDA HAS NOT DONE A ?RECALL? ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE (THE ENGINE STALLING AT HIGH SPEED WHEN OIL PRESSURE IS TOO LOW DUE TO MOTOR OIL BURNING). THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT HONDA IS RELUCTANT TO CONDUCT SUCH SAFETY RECALL, THEY ARE AFRAID THAT WITH FIRING UP THE IDLED CYLINDERS; THEY MAY FAIL THE EPA MILEAGE CLAIMS. ALL THE POST 2005 V6 WITH ?ECON? MODE TO SAVE GAS MODELS WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEMS ONCE THE CARS ARE DRIVEN, LET SAY OVER 70,000 MILES. WE HAVE A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY W/LESS THAN 65K MILES ON IT AND JUST HAD TO REPLACE BOTH THE REAR AND SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS. THE REPAIR BILL WAS $1041.65 PLUS THE LABOR TO DIAGNOSE THIS ISSUE BOTH BY LEITH AND BAYLEAF. THE CRACKED REAR MOTOR MOUNT NOTICED BY LEITH HONDA ON CAPITAL RD. IN RALEIGH, NC. THEY QUOTED CLOSE TO $900 FOR JUST THE REAR MOTOR MOUNT REPLACEMENT, AND THEY SAID THAT THE OTHER MOTOR MOUNTS COULD BE BROKEN BUT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE MOTOR OUT TO SEE. WE HAD BAYLEAF TIRE AND AUTO REPAIR IT BECAUSE THEY WERE RECOMMENDED TO US AND THEIR QUOTE WAS LOWER. THEY FOUND THAT THE SIDE MOTOR MOUNT WAS BROKEN AS WELL. CHRIS OF BAYLEAF SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD ODYSSEYS AROUND THE SAME MODEL YEAR COME IN FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND HAD CALLED HONDA TO TELL THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE. I HAVE SEEN PLENTY OF EVIDENCE ONLINE THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE MOTOR MOUNTS RELATED TO THE ECO MODE (DROPPING FROM 4 TO 3 CYLINDERS TO SAVE FUEL) BEING INSTITUTED IN THE ODYSSEYS IN THE MID-2000'S WITHOUT A CORRESPONDING CHANGE TO THE DESIGN OF THE MOTOR MOUNTS WHICH COULD NOT HANDLE THE ADDITIONAL VIBRATION. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WOULD COST APPROX $800 TO REPAIR BECAUSE THE CONDENSER HAS TO BE REPLACED. I THEN PAID TO HAVE IT REPAIRED ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM HAPPEN AGAIN ON 8/21/10. NOT EVEN A YEAR LATER. I DO NOT DRIVE ON DIRT ROADS AND AVOID CONSTRUCTION. THIS TIME I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR SIMILAR STORIES. I FOUND THOUSANDS OF THREADS OF OTHERS WITH HONDA ODYSSEY'S COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL IT IS A MANUFACTURER'S DESIGN DEFECT THAT ALLOWS ROCKS OR OTHER SUCH ITEMS TO PENETRATE THE CONDENSER. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THERE ARE AFTERMARKET GRILLS TO BE PLACED ON THE FRONT OF THE CAR TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM WHICH IS YET AN ADDITIONAL EXPENSE AND CHANGES THE LOOK OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR. ADDITIONALLY, WE WERE TOLD BY THE HONDA SERVICE WRITER THAT THIS IF FROM NORMAL DRIVING WEAR AND TEAR, SUCH AS SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, ACCELERATION AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING. IT CERTAINLY SEEMS AF IF HONDA TERRIBLY UNDER ENGINEERED THIS PART. THERE ACTIVITIES ARE PART OF NORMAL DRIVING. OUR VAN HAS 62,XXX MILES ON IT AND USED MOSTLY FOR SUBURBAN DRIVING, AND NOT EXCEEDING THE RECOMMENDED DRIVING CONDITIONS FROM HONDA. THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE $850 FOR THE ONE MOUNT. I STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE LIGHT WENT OFF. ON THE SECOND DAY, WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT I-60, SUDDENLY WITH NO WARNING, BOTH 'ENGINE' AND 'INSPECT VSA' CAME ON AGAIN. AND THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN CONSIDERABLY ON THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN TO LESS THAN 20 MPH WITH DID NOT RESPONSE TO THE GAS PEDAL. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I HAVE FOUND THAT HUNDREDS OF HONDA OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE A/C COMPRESSOR. THE DEALER EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE COMPRESSOR IS PLACED IN AN AREA WITH NO PROTECTION, MAKING IT VULNERABLE TO DAMAGE. DEALER REFUSED TO TEAR-DOWN ENGINE ON FIRST TWO VISITS SINCE BREAK-DOWN. OWNER NOTICED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT COOLING. VERIFIED THAT COMPRESSOR WAS RUNNING, BUT IT DID NOT LOAD THE ENGINE - SUSPECTED LOSS OF REFRIGERANT. DEALER CONFIRMED NO REFRIGERANT WAS IN SYSTEM, AND FOUND THAT IT HAD LEAKED OUT OF CONDENSER VIA A SMALL HOLE, PROBABLY CAUSED BY SOMETHING STRIKING THE CONDENSER. OWNER HAD DISCOVERED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS BY OWNERS OF SAME MODEL OF VEHICLE REGARDING THE A/C CONDENSER BEING EXPOSED AND NOT APPROPRIATELY PROTECTED BY GRILLE, AND OVER A YEAR AGO HAD CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THIS APPARENT OVERSIGHT. I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE AND BELIEVE THIS IS A LATENT DESIGN DEFECT, THAT FROM A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH, APPEARS TO BE OCCURRING REGULARLY ON SEVERAL HONDA MODELS. THIS DAMAGE IS ALSO CAUSING THE RELEASE OF POTENTIALLY HARMFUL AIR CONDITIONER FREON INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. MOST IMPORTANTLY, IN 30+ YEARS OF DRIVING, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A PEBBLE CAUSING SUCH DAMAGE ON A VEHICLE. IT IS UNCONSCIONABLE FOR AMERICAN HONDA TO TAKE THE POSITION THAT THIS IS A ROAD HAZARD AND TO DIRECT THEIR CUSTOMERS TO FILE WITH THEIR INSURANCE CARRIERS FOR RELIEF. *TR
HONDA ODYSSEY 2005. TWO SEPARATE INCIDENCES OF COOLANT SYSTEM BEING PIERCED BY A STONE. OCTOBER 2005, A/C COOLANT LEAKED OUT. APRIL 2007, RADIATOR PIERCED BY A STONE AND CAUSED A LEAK. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE IDLING, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERSHIP UPGRADED THE SOFTWARE. THEN, WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM WAS REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED.
WHILE MAKING A HARD RIGHT HAND TURN, VAN HAD A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. ENGINE, LIGHTS, POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES ALL DIED INSTANTLY. MANAGED TO STOP THE VAN WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING, BUT IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN COMING THE OTHER WAY, NO WAY AN ACCIDENT WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED. PUT CAR IN PARK, TURNED KEY AND IT RESTARTED AND DROVE FINE. CALLED DEALER AND TOOK IT IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. THERE WERE APPROX. 10 ERROR CODES RECORDED. THEY KEPT VAN FOR FOUR HOURS, ENDED UP SAYING IT WAS A DEAD BATTERY AND THEY REPLACED IT AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. THEY SAID PAPERWORK HAS TO BE SENT THROUGH WARRANTY AND WILL SEND ME A COPY WHEN IT COMES BACK. EXPLANATION DOESN'T FIT SITUATION. *NM
1) EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. (2) FAILURE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES, AND AS SOON CAR WAS PUT IN PARK AND TURNED OFF, WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD, TURNING TO BLACK SMOKE AND FIRE WITHIN ONE MINUTE. WHOLE ENGINE, DASH AND FRONT OF CAR WAS DESTROYED IN THE FIRE. (3) WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE; I.E, PARTS REPAIRED OR REPLACED (AND IF OLD PART IS AVAILABLE) CAR WAS TOTALED. *NM
CONDENSER PROBLEMS.. IN HOT JUNE - THE FIRST DAY THAT TEMPERATURES WERE ALMOST 100 DEGREES WE EXPERIENCE OUR FIRST SET OF MANY PROBLEM WITH THIS VAN. WE HAD OWNED VEHICLE FOR 2 MONTHS AND ONLY PUT 2700 MILES ON IT. WE HAD EXPERIENCE A CONDENSER EXPLOSION. WE WERE SITTING @ STOP LIGHT AND I HEARD A POP AND STEAM ROLLED ALL AROUND VEHICLE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO SHOP TO FIND OUT THAT CONDENSER HAD A BAD SPOT IN IT AND WOULD BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. BEFORE IT WAS DECLARED THAT IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY - WE KEEP BEING THREATEN BY SERVICE WRITER IF IT'S NOT WARRANTY RELATED THAT I WOULD OWE CHECKOUT FEES, WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO FIX IT AND THE COMPLETE RENTAL BILL. APPEARS THAT FRONT BUMPER AND CONDENSER DESIGN WAS NOT THOUGHT OUT. I AGREE WITH THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT A GRILLE OR A MESH AREA SHOULD COVER THE LARGE OPENING. FYI, WE WERE TOLD, BY DEALERSHIP, THAT MOST OF THE VEHICLES HAVE NOT BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY - BUT OURS APPEARED TO HAVE A WEAK SPOT IN THE CONDENSER. *NM
I AM A MEMBER OF THE 05' HONDA ODYSSEY GROWLING CLUB. I STARTED HAVING A VIBRATION - GROWLING NOISE IN THE DRIVELINE @ 60 TO 70 MPH AND @ 2000 RPM. THIS STARTED 7 MONTHS AFTER OWNERSHIP AND 9900 MILES LATER. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED ON THE FORUMS THAT MAY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ITEM - I HAVE TAKEN INTO SHOP THREE TIMES AND BOTH DEALERSHIPS STATE THAT ALL THE NOISES ARE NORMAL. DT: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS VIBRATION IN THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FIVE TIMES, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE THAT MAY OR MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE ON A ROADTRIP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. DEALER REPLACED EGR VALVE BECAUSE THERE WAS A PIECE OF METAL STUCK ON IT. ON THE RETURN TRIP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN. MECHANICS AT THE DEALER HAVE FOUND LARGE QUANTITIES OF METAL IN THE ENGINE. MECHANICS HAVE NOT SEEN THIS PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY AND IS CURRENTLY COMMUNICATING WITH HONDA ENGINEERS REGARDING THIS MATTER.
DT: THE FAN IN THE VEHICLE IS BLOWING HOT AIR. WHEN VENT IS USED (110 DEGREES) OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE IS ABOUT 70 DEGREES. IT IS APPARENT THAT THE AIR COMING FROM VENT HAS BEEN HEATED. THE ENGINE OR HOT AIR FROM ENGINE HAS LEAKED INTO THE AIR INTAKE. IN ORDER TO BE COMFORTABLE IN VEHICLE, AIR CONDITIONER MUST BE USED EXCESSIVELY IN ORDER TO COOL DOWN CONSTANT FLOW OF HOT AIR COMING FROM VENT PIPE. THE PROBLEM IS MOST APPARENT WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED OR AT LOW SPEEDS. DEALER REPORTS THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING SINCE THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM. THIS LEADS TO DECREASED FUEL EFFICIENCY. *TT *NM
AT 9.974 MILES MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS FOUND TO HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSOR LEAK. THIS IS DUE TO THE WIDE OPEN, LOW PROFILE OPENING ON THE FRONT OF THE VAN. THIS WAS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR! I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE A MESH INSTALLED THERE BY THE MANUFACTURER TO PROTECT THE CONDENSOR.
DRIVER SIDE 2ND SEATING ROW POWER DOOR FAILS TO CLOSE. PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR DIFFICULT TO CLOSE AND LATCH. VEHICLE AND STEERING WHEEL VIBRATE AT 1500-1600 RPM @50-55MPH, AND ENGINE MAKES LOUD NOISE. STOPS WHEN FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR OR WHEN OUT OF INDICATED RANGES.
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATING, ENGINE RACING AND SHUTTING OFF. THERE ARE ALSO PROBLEMS WITH DOOR EQUIPMENT NOT LOCKING OR UNLOCKING, AS WELL AS PROBLEMS WITH THE ACCELERATOR.*MR THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION LOCKED IN PARK. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED THREE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE THROTTLE IN ADDITION TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE SLIDING DOOR (DRIVER'S SIDE), POWER LOCKS AND AIR BAG SENSOR. *NM
