Owner Complaints (119)
Your transmission is shifting roughly and unpredictably, especially when accelerating or downshifting in lower gears, causing sudden lurching that started at 50,000 miles and has worsened significantly. The transmission sometimes slams hard between gears 2 and 3, making your speed unstable and creating a safety hazard in traffic—your dealer's fluid change didn't resolve the issue. A transmission fluid flush and filter replacement may help, but this likely requires professional transmission diagnostics and possible internal repair or replacement.

Your car's turbocharger and fuel injectors failed simultaneously, causing your engine to enter limp mode without warning while driving on the interstate at high speeds, which caused the car to suddenly slow to almost a stop. You only noticed a blinking check engine light, with no other warning signs beforehand. The issue has already been repaired, but the root cause of the simultaneous failure may need to be investigated to determine if it's a design or manufacturing defect affecting multiple 2018 Honda Accords.

On February 26, 2025 I was driving my 2018 Honda Accord Sport (118,000 miles) with a 1.5t engine on a 55mph 2 lane roadway at approximately 55mph with 4-5 cars behind me when the engine suddenly went into "limp" mode and quickly decelerated to approximately 25 MPH. I could see the cars behind me suddenly brake to avoid hitting me. I pull off on the shoulder, turned my car off and restarted.

The head gasket leaked and a piston warped. The symptom was feeling a piston misfire and then the car wouldn't go over 10 miles per hour. Our safety was compromised because we were on a busy (45mph) road and couldn't turn off quickly nor go fast to keep up with traffic.

The car loses power. It starts as a misfire on cylinder 2 (P0302 code) and the engine starts to shutdown (or goes into a safe mode with no power). The result is loss of speed which creates a safety hazard especially on highways.

I own a 2018 Honda Accord EX-L equipped with the 1.5-liter turbo engine. Over time, the vehicle began showing symptoms of coolant loss without any visible leaks, a sweet odor under the hood, and intermittent white smoke from the exhaust after startup. Upon commuting to work, the car failed to accelerate causing the car to almost suddenly stop while driving; at the same time of the failure warning lights and beeping occurred. I am writing to report a serious mechanical issue with my 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T that I believe may constitute a design or manufacturing defect with potential safety implications. This car had a manufacturer recall for the "fuel pump". I was advised by Honda to go get the car checked by the dealer to evaluate if the issues I was getting were related to the recall. My car is barely at 78,000 miles and I use premium gas, and get oil changes regularly but my car all of a sudden started having a cylinder 4 misfire. Thought it was just my spark plugs having to be changed, but after changing my car was still running rough and still misfired. Two separate issues: 1) with only 2,400 miles on the accord, on october 7, 2018 it suddenly lost power 2 or 3 times over a 60-mile stretch of the busy 405 freeway, each time slowing from 65 MPH to approximately 30 MPH or less despite maintaining even pressure on the accelerator. Your engine's head gasket failed at 58,000 miles without any overheating warning, and your car suddenly went into limp mode (severely limited performance) while turning onto a highway at 55 mph with no warning lights beforehand. You experienced a brief misfire before this happened, and the dealership reports multiple 2018 Accord 1.5L models are experiencing similar head gasket failures. Additionally, your fuel injector completely failed after the head gasket was repaired and also needs replacement.

After your Honda serviced your vehicle and flushed the coolant, your car started running sluggishly and displaying warning lights for emissions, brake system, hill assist, and power steering failures. The dealership diagnosed a coolant leak from a failed head gasket, requiring a $4,800 repair. My 2018 Honda experienced a catastrophic engine failure (blown head gasket) at only 30,012 miles. A head gasket is not a wear item and should not fail at such low mileage. I previously reported related symptoms during dealer service visits in July 2024 and August 2025, including signs consistent with cooling or engine performance issues, prior to the complete failure.

The head gasket needs replaced because of a faulty design....this is an expensive fix and one I think Honda knows about, but because the fix if almost all labor, they don't care because it is making them a ton of money on repairs. The engine block cooling is designed to cause a head gasket failure with can ruin the engine and even if you catch it, is very expensive to fix.

While taking off from a full stop, the vehicle's transmission shifted violently to the point where it felt as if the car was rear-ended. 2018 honda accord with 10 speed automatic transmission experienced a very violent upshift at low speeds (taking off from the parking lot). This happens intermittently and, of course, a dealer was not able to diagnose the issue as they only drive the vehicle for, maybe, an hour, while the issue occurs every so many hundreds of miles (can't quite pin down the exact interval).

Intermittenly (I.e. Every so many hundreds of miles), the vehicle has extremely violent shifts at low speeds (2-20 miles), where upon shifts it almost feels as if the vehicle has been re-ended. Honda has not properly investigated issue as their usual m.o.

2018 honda accord 2.0t touring with 10-speed automatic transmission, mileage < 1000. Transmission has rough shifting from 2nd into 3rd gear at low rpms/speed (2,000 RPM / < 14mph) feeling like a manual shift car popping the clutch. This can happen when car is cold or warmed up, car is in the northeast with cold or hot weather.

I have a 2018 honda accord 2.0t touring with the 10-speed automatic transmission. The transmission shifts extremely rough from 2-3 gear, 3-4th and downshifting into pretty much any gear. It's been taken to the dealer several times for this issue and nothing has been resolved.

Upon driving on a highway at 60 MPH at night, the accelerator peddle was rapidly depressed to avoid another rapidly oncoming car from the rear of my car. My car stumbled and a blinking check engine light came on. The car then went into an operating mode in which about 80% of the car's power was lost and could only be driven very slowly.

New honda accord 2.0t with 10-speed automatic transmission shifts very rough and slow from 2nd to 3rd gear. This issue has been well documented on honda accord owner forums and acura rdx owner forums (the two vehicles share the same engine and transmission). The vehicle normally shifts hard from 2nd to 3rd, but occasionally it is very slow to engaged 3rd gear and then slams into gear.

My car is always having some electrical issue but when I type in my VIN number, no recalls are listed under my VIN number and then for the last couple of days I've been experiencing acceleration problems when I look up a 2018 Honda Accord it is saying that fuel pumps have been an issue, but my VIN number pulls up no information as far as me falling under that recall what are the proper steps to get my car looked at to see if my VIN number Even though it's not populating, any recall falls under the recall

Randomly, my car will start throwing many warning signs when I crank my car. Then it magically disappears after 2 days. Also I drive my car past 40mph and the engine light came on and then I could no longer accelerate.

I was on the highway with moderate traffic. My car would no longer accelerate due to a blown head gasket out of nowhere, I was on the far left lane and had to traverse over 5 lanes in moderate traffic while other drivers on the highway were going 60+ MPH. This is a common issue among Honda Accords with the 1.5 engines.

These Accords are an extreme safety hazzard. Experienced an instant loss of power and without any prior warning signs. Once the issue accured the vehicle was impossible to drive putting the vehicle occupants and everyone on the road at risk.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda accord. While driving approximately 75 MPH and decelerating to 15 MPH, the vehicle would not immediately accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. It took three to five seconds before the vehicle accelerated properly.

On 2018 honda accords the adaptive cruise control which is standards on all trim levels, does not brake the vehicle to maintain the set speed when going downhill. This is odd since the vehicle will apply brakes to maintain speed if there's a vehicle in front of the car, but on downhills all it will do is make several downshifts to try and maintain the speed.
