Your 2017 Ford Fusion started running rough, and the check engine light came on shortly after. A mechanic diagnosed the problem as coolant getting into the engine (coolant intrusion), which has caused enough damage that your engine needs to be replaced at 70,000 miles. There are no active recalls for your vehicle's VIN to address this issue. Fixing this will require a full engine replacement.

Your engine failed due to coolant leaking into the engine cylinders, causing severe internal damage. This type of failure typically results from a head gasket failure or similar cooling system leak that allows coolant to enter the combustion chamber. The engine will likely need to be rebuilt or replaced entirely.

Your engine may fail because coolant is leaking into the engine where it shouldn't be. This happens when coolant seals or gaskets deteriorate and allow coolant to mix with engine oil, which damages internal engine components. The fix will likely involve replacing the faulty seals or gaskets and flushing the engine to remove contaminated coolant.
