I went to emissions and I received an “Important Vehicle Safety Recall Information” notice that states Transmission Control Module Extendes Warranty Coverage”.
Ford manufactured faulty clutches in Ford Focus cars years 2012-2015. The clutches were put in automatic transmissions and after short periods of time the clutch slips requiring full replacements. In 2023 my daughter was driving on a 55 mile per hour highway when the car shut down and would no longer drive. She had to immediately pull over and have the car towed to the dealership. We spent $4,600 reporting the clutch. Just barely after 2 years the clutch is completely out again. A clutch in an automatic car should not go out within 2 years and 13,000 miles. When the clutch slips it puts the driver and other drivers at increased risk of an accident. Ford is aware of these issues and refuse to do any sort of recalls.

The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an unknown recall repair, and a message was displayed. The message “Stop vehicle immediately to prevent engine damage” was displayed. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, waited for the tow truck, and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with a timing cover assembly failure. The vehicle was repaired under recall. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired because it was not under recall after the recent failure. Vehicle has difficulty starting after refuel. Vehicle stalls randomly to the point that is too much of a danger to drive. All of the symptoms correlate to recall (18S32) yet this particular vehicles vin was not listed in the list of recalled vehicles. The DTC's are as follows,P0420, P0456, P1450. Upon being serviced for the ford customer satisfaction program 24N07 it was noted by a service advisor that the replacement of a fuel tank and fuel pump was necessary which would be a reference to recall (18S32). However due to this vin not falling under recall (18S32) the service for a replacement fuel tank and fuel pump is not covered by warranty. Vehicle has erratic and innacurate fuel gauge indication. Vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic shortly after service was completed. Dealership has no clearance from Ford to address problem because 24N07 makes no mention of components that could be affected by faulty canister purge valve, unlike (18S32) and as such leaves this vehicle to be a hazard on the road.

Car will stall and then completely shut down. And takes awhile to restart. This last time I was on the highway and cars were going so fast. Almost had a panic attack!!
Focus, which was purchased in California in 2017, clutch has gone which caused to stall and jerk in traffic, now has to be replaced at my expense! $4300. This was a massive hazard and defect!

My car was hesitant to accelerate when both stopped and while cruising. When stopped, I would release the brake and the car would shudder and not accelerate. It would sit for a few seconds before going forward. When stopped on a hill, my car would roll backwards when I would release from the brake. When accelerating up a hill, my car would shudder and stop accelerating for a few seconds. Once, while on the Highway, I went to pass a car, getting into the left lane and pressing on the gas. The car did not go any faster but my RPM went all the way up. It was such a danger to drive. The service engine light would go on and off, but never be consistently on. When it turned on, it only stayed on for a day and then went back off. It almost caused a few accidents. When I took it to my local Ford dealership thinking it was the TCM, they told me the car needed a new clutch, levers, and slave cylinder.

My car randomly started stalling out while driving. A check engine light came on, and when I took it in to get read, the mechanics told me they were the codes pertaining to the recall on this car for the purge valve malfunction. The local dealer will not grant me an appointment to look at it and complete the recall for another 5 weeks.....my appointment isn't until October. In the meantime, I dont have a safe vehicle to drive, as the chances of me getting rear ended are high. The vehicle stalls out 6 to 7 times every 40 miles.

MY CAR FAILS TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT SHUDDERING EVEN AFTER THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED AND COMPUTER REPROGRAMMED. IT FIRST STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES WHEN IT HAD ONLY AROUND 60,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS AROUND FIVE YEARS OLD. EVEN AFTER BEING FIXED, MY CARS TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON AND IT COASTED TO A STOP AT THE SIDE OF A BUSY ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT AT JARRINGLY LOUD LOW GEAR HOME. BECAUSE I WAS TOLD IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THE SECOND TIME, I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO RESET THE COMPUTER AND TOLD ME HE SUSPECTED THE TRANSMISSION ITSELF IS BAD. IT DRIVE OK, BUT WITH ASTONISHINGLY LOW POWER AND DANGEROUS FREEWAY MERGES FOR ANOTHER TWO YEARS. NOW THE SHUDDERING IS BAD AGAIN AND THE TRANSMISSION GROANING IN BETWEEN LOW GEAR CHANGES. ADDITIONALLY THE CPV ON THIS CAR WAS BAD ONCE, AND IT WARPED THE GAS PAN. THE DEALERSHIP RESET THE COMPUTER CODES CONTROLLING THE VALVE BUT NOW THE ENGINE CODE FOR THAT PROBLEM IS ON AGAIN TOO. THIS CAR FEELS UNSAFE, BUT I HAVE LITTLE ALTERNATIVES. I HAVE NOW WAY TO GET TO WORK WITHOUT IT.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. ADDITIONALLY, WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE JERKED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS HOWEVER, THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE FUEL SYSTEM FOR THIS CAR . THE RECALL WORK HAS BEEN DONE , AFTER MUCH PROBLEMS WITH FUEL CONSUMPTION AND STALLING ON THE ROAD . THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED A SIDE PROBLEM , THAT OF THE PLUGGING OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER . THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NOW NEEDS REPLACED . *TR

THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED FOR A RECALL REPAIR THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE REPAIR WAS PREVIOUSLY COMPLETELY AND WAS TESTED TO BE SURE IT HAD NOT FAILED, WHICH IT HAD NOT. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. *JS
MY VEHICLE IS CONSTANTLY TELLING ME MY "TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING, PLEASE PULL OVER SAFELY" WHEN IM ON THE FREEWAY (NO TRAFFIC). I PULL OVER AND IT SAY "WAIT 5 MINUTES," WHICH I DO AND THEN IT WILL SAY "TRANSMISSION READY". SOMETIMES EVEN BEFORE I PULL OVER TO ALLOW TRANSMISSION TO COOL DOWN IT WILL FLASH "TRANSMISSION READY" BEFORE I CAN PULL OVER TO LET IT COOL DOWN.
THE CAR DOESN'T LIKE TO SHIFT TO ANY OTHER GEARS IT DRIVES HORRIBLY GOING DOWN HILLS OR BACKING OUT OF THE ROAD I HAVE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID IT WAS MY CLUTCH IS BAD AND IT IS 1200 TO FIX IT .
WHEN IDLING - MY FORD FOCUS WILL OFTEN RANDOMLY ACCELERATE, AFTER A FEW MOMENTS IT THEN BOTTOMS OUT COMPLETELY, NEARLY STALLING. THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHEN I'M BRAKING INSTEAD OF DECELERATING IT WILL ACCELERATE AND JERK THE CAR TERRIBLY STRAINING THE BRAKES MAKING IT HARDER TO STOP.
MY DAUGHTER HAS A USED 2012 FORD FOCUS THAT HAS AN OUTSTANDING RECALL FOR CPV PROBLEMS. SHE HAS HAD TWO EXPERIENCES WHERE THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND SHE'S UNABLE TO ACCELERATE NO MATTER HOW FAR SHE PRESSES THE GAS PEDAL. LAST WEEK, 1/15/2019 THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY, WHILE IN MOTION, GOING APPROXIMATELY 65MPH. VERY DANGEROUS! ESPECIALLY WITH FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. SHE MANAGED TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY AND COAST INTO A PARKING LOT. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO CAMELBACK FORD AND WE EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND THAT AFTER SOME RESEARCH FOUND THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL ON HER CAR FOR A MALFUNCTIONING PART/S THAT CAN CAUSE THE EXACT PROBLEMS SHE'S EXPERIENCING. THEY SAY OKAY, WE'LL GET ON IT. WELL, THEY CALLED US TODAY, 1/20/2020, A WHOLE 5 DAYS LATER, TO SAY THAT SHE NEEDS A NEW BATTERY AND OTHER THINGS LIKE A WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND BEARING REPLACED. NO MENTION OF THE RECALL REPAIR BEING DONE. WHEN ASKED THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T REPAIR BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR FIND A CODE FOR IT. SO NEEDLESS TO SAY, SHE'S BEEN WITHOUT HER CAR FOR 5 DAYS AND THE RECALL REPAIR WASN'T EVEN DONE, AND THEY COME AT USE FOR OTHER "REPAIRS". RIGHT NOW WE ARE MORE CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY ASPECT OF THE CAR STALLING OUT WHILE IN MOTION. AFTER CHATTING WITH A FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE REP., WHO BY THE WAY SAYS REPAIRS SHOULD BE DONE WHETHER THE ISSUE IS DETECTABLE OR NOT, WE HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A SECOND DEALER AND HOPE THEY MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. WE CAN DO A WHEEL BEARINGS AND ALIGNMENT ONCE THE MORE CRITICAL SAFETY REPAIRS ARE DONE.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE SAME PART MULTIPLE TIMES. THE TCM SEEMS LIKE IT NEEDS REPLACED ALMOST EVERY TIME I GET AN OIL CHANGE. EVERY TIME MY CAR GETS FIXED ANOTHER PROBLEM APPEARS. MY CAR WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE RIGHT NOW, AND HAS A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 1 WHICH I KNOW THE MISFIRES HAPPEN OFTEN. BUT THERE IS ALSO A LEAK IN THE EVAP WHICH HAPPENED RIGHT AFTER MY TANK WAS FIXED FOR THE DEFORMATION OF THE TANK RECALL. MY TRANSMISSION TICKS, AND THE CLUTCH PLATE NEEDS REPLACED. I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC FORD FOCUS BUT THE CAR IS CONSTANTLY SHUDDERING. THE VEHICLE HAS THE CLUTCH SHUDDER WHEN I'M AT A COMPLETE STOP AND I PRESS THE GAS PEDAL. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF IT'S LIGHT OR NOT.

VEHICLE WOULD LOSE MOTIVE POWER IN LONG TURNING OFF/ON RAMPS WHEN FUEL LEVEL GOT DOWN TO JUST ABOVE A 1/4 TANK AT FIRST THEN AS TIME PROGRESSED THE SAME ISSUE WOULD OCCUR IN HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. NARROWLY AVOIDED ACCIDENTS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DUE TO THIS. VEHICLE NEVER THREW A CODE FOR ANYTHING, IT WOULD JUST STOP RUNNING. I TOOK VEHICLE IN TO DEALER TO PERFORM MANUFACTURER RECALL 18S32, THEY JUST REPORGRAMMED IT AND GAVE IT BACK. PROBLEM GOT BETTER AT FIRST BUT DID NOT GO AWAY. SINCE THE RECALL WORK ANOTHER RECALL HAS COME OUT AND THE LEVEL OF FUEL I NEED WENT FROM ABOVE 1/4 TO ABOVE 1/2 A TANK OF FUEL. WHEN THE FUEL GAUGE READS 1/2 A TANK THE VEHICLE WILL TAKE BETWEEN 7 AND 8 GALLONS OF GAS (THE FUEL LEVELS ON THE GAUGE ARE WRONG) THIS MORNING I LOST MOTIVE POWER ON THE HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC AT LOW SPEEDS WITH A FULL TANK OF FUEL AND IT FINALLY THREW THE CODE P00C6 TWICE, WHICH AFTER LOOKING IT UP I IDENTIFIED THIS TO BE SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF INSUFFICIENT FUEL PRESSURE AT THE FUEL RAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED THE SAME INFORMATION AS THE DEALER. THE CONTACT REQUESTED A LOANER VEHICLE, WHICH WAS DENIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HENRYETTA FORD WHERE IT CURRENTLY REMAINED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.

WE HAVE HAD THE CLUTCH REPLACED 3 TIMES AND ARE READY WITH OUR FOURTH CLUTCH (NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY! $2200!). THE DUAL-CLUTCH IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND FORD HAS NOT FIXED IT. THEY CONTINUE TO REPLACE THE PART WITH ONE THAT FAILS AT 25,000 MILES.YOU KNOW IT'S A CLUTCH WHEN THE CAR IS SHUDDERING, STRUGGLES TO SWITCH BETWEEN GEARS AND DOES NOT FEEL LIKE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING SMOOTHLY. FORD REFUSES TO STAND BEHIND THEIR CAR THAT THEY KNOWINGLY SOLD EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS. WE FIRST TOOK OUR CAR IN FOR SHUDDERS AT 2,000 MILES AND WERE TOLD IT WAS NORMAL. THE LAST REPAIR TOOK ALMOST 1 MONTH.
THE CAR JERKS A LOT WHILE DRIVING. IT IS LIKE A STUTTER OR SOMETHING. I HAD NAPLETON FORD CHECK IT OUT AND THEY INDICATED THAT THE CLUTCH NEEDS REPLACING. THEY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CLUTCH AND THAT IT HAD TO REPLACED BY 100,000 MILES. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED AT 154,000 MILES SO I DIDN'T HAVE IT AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL. MY WARRANTY WON'T COVER THE REPAIR.
MASSIVE STUTTERING ISSUE. WHEN PRESSING GAS, SEEMS TO STUTTER AND FAIL TO GET UP TO SPEED. HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES AND DOESN'T SEEM TO CHANGE IF ENGINE IS COLD OR WARM.
VEHICLE IS READING CODE P0420 INDICATING HAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS OPERATING UNDER THRESHOLD. LIGHT WOULD TURN ON AND OFF PERIODICALLY UNTIL IT FINALLY REMAINED TURNED ON AND SOON AFTER THE VEHICLE STARTED STRUGGLING TO DRIVE UP HILLS AND THE GAS MILAGE HAS DECREASED.
RECALL 18S32. BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO DEALERSHIP ON 9-8-19 WHEN I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. I WAS TOLD THAT SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. AT THAT POINT, WE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY OF THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A CHECK TO SEE IF THE SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED AND IT DID NOT. ON 10-9-19 WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE GAS GAUGE WENT UP TO FULL (IT WAS ONLY 1/2 FULL) CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON (IT HAS CONSISTENTLY BEEN ON FOR WEEKS) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY AND MOST FRIGHTENING IS THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. ALL OF THESE THINGS THAT OCCURED ARE DIRECTLY WHAT THE RECALL IS FOR. ALTHOUGH MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHTWAY , THANKFULLY SHE WAS NOT HIT OR KILLED BY OTHER DRIVERS AND DID NOT CRASH THE VEHICLE. NOW BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS INITIALLY BROUGHT IN BEFORE ANY SYMPTOMS AND FORD DETERMINED NO SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS NEEDED, THEY ARE DENYING TO REPLACE THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE WHICH IS WHAT WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP NEEDED TO BE DONE. THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE DRIVEN NOW BECAUSE OF THE FEAR OF PUTTING WHOMEVER DRIVES IT IN DANGER. NOT ONLY IS THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BUT I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AND FEEL THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD IMMEDIATELY. THERE IS ALSO A RECALL (RECALL #19S22) STATING DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE CARBON CANISTER, FUEL TANK AND FUEL DELIVERY MODULE AS NECESSARY. THERE WAS MULTIPLE RECALLS ON THE CLUTCH FOR MY CAR. THE CLUTCH HAS BEEN CHANGED 3+ TIMES AND IT IS STILL BROKEN. AND FORD REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN DECEMBER 2018 STATING A RECALL ON THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE WOULD BE AVAILABLE THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2019. MY CAR HAS STALLED, HAS ISSUES WITH THIS AFFECTED PART AND CANNOT RELY ON MY VEHICLE. THE RECALL HAS NOT BEEN FULFILLED AND IT IS NOW MAY29, 2019. I HAVE AN ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT THAT COMES ON EVERY TIME THE CAR IS DRIVEN. IT'S UNRELIABLE AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE WITH THE LACK OF EXCELERATION.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR IN A RURAL AREA GOING ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND REVING NEAR 6 RPM. THE CAR WILL NO LONGER DRIVE IN REVERSE AND IS UNDRIVABLE.
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO WORK ON THE INTERSTATE SHORTLY AFTER 6AM IN THE POURING RAIN. TRAFFIC WAS MOVING AT ROUGHLY 65 MILES AN HOUR. AS TWO HIGHWAYS WERE MERGING TOGETHER, HIS VEHICLE LOST POWER. RPM'S WENT HIGH BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. HE PUT ON FLASHERS AND PROCEEDED TO COAST INTO RIGHT HAND LANES, BUT ONLY HAD ENOUGH POWER TO LAND IN THE GORE, WHICH IS THE V WHERE TWO HIGHWAYS COME TOGETHER. HE TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART, BUT IT WOULD NOT RESTART. IT TOOK 1 AND 1/2 HOURS FOR RESCUE VEHICLE TO ARRIVE WHILE TRAFFIC SPED BY ON BOTH SIDES OF HIM, LEADING HIM TO BELIEVE HE WAS LIVING HIS LAST MOMENTS. HORRIFYING! COURTESY PATROL GOT MY HUSBAND TO SAFETY, TOW TRUCK RETRIEVED VEHICLE AND TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THAT ESSENTIALLY, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AS HE DROVE DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD HAVE DONE TO STOP IT. THEY REPLACED THE F MODULE-TRANSMISSION CONTROL AT N/C, AND ALSO PERFORMED UNRELATED PCM UPDATE FOR A RECALL. WE TRADED OFF THE VEHICLE YESTERDAY. TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN REPAIRED NUMEROUS TIMES FOR SHAKING OR STALLING.

I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE A FEW MONTHS AGO AND I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD RECEIVE ANOTHER LETTER IN ABOUT 3 MONTHS ONCE THE NECESSARY PARTS WERE IN STOCK. I HADN'T RECEIVED THE FOLLOW UP LETTER SO I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER BUT I COULD SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INSPECTED FOR CORROSION TO DETERMINE IF I EVEN NEEDED THE PARTS. THE EARLIEST APPOINTMENT I COULD GET WAS MAY 18TH, JUST FOR THE INSPECTION; NOT EVEN FOR THE ACTUAL REPAIRS. THE RECALL IS FOR THE FUEL VAPOR SYSTEM AND THERE'S A WARPED PART THAT IS CAUSING AN INACCURATE READING ON FUEL LEVELS WHICH MEANS I HAVE TO MAINTAIN AT LEAST A HALF TANK OF GAS AT ALL TIMES. MY CAR IS NOW LEAKING GAS AND STALLING IN TRAFFIC DUE TO THE ISSUE. I LIVE IN A CITY WITH LOTS OF STEEP INCLINES AND HILLS AND I HAVE TO AVOID CERTAIN STREETS BECAUSE MY CAR HAS STALLED AND ALMOST CAUSED ACCIDENTS. THERE IS ONLY ONE FORD DEALER IN MY AREA. THE ONLY OTHER DEALER IS ABOUT 30-40 MINUTES AWAY.

I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF AND DEALING WITH A ENGINE/TRANSMISSION ISSUE SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD SEVERAL TIMES BY MY DEALERSHIP THAT IT IS JUST THE TYPE OF GAS SIPPING ENGINE THE CAR HAS AND IT IS NORMAL. I AM 50 YEARS OLD AND NEVER HAD A CAR THAT RESPONDED AS POORLY THIS ONE HAS BUT ALSO NEVER HAD A CAR WITH SPECIAL TYPE OF ENGINE. IT HAS STALLED WHILE ENTERING AN INTERSECTION A COUPLE OF TIMES, LACKS PICK UP SOMETIMES OR JOLTS (LIKE TRANSMISSION ISSUES) WHEN GOING FROM STOPPED POSITION. IT WILL SOMETIMES JOLTS GOING UP HILLS WHILE CAR IS SWITCHING GEARS AS WELL AT A NORMAL BACK ROAD SPEED. AN ENGINE RECALL WAS PUT OUT SEVERAL MONTHS AGO WITH NO REMEDY YET. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON SOMETIMES (AFTER JUST HAVING THE CAR SERVICED AND GONE THROUGH FOR FLUIDS, ETC). MY CAR HAS 50K MILES ON IT ONLY AND IS BEING DRIVEN BY MY SON NOW. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY BUT DON'T WANT TO SELL IT WITH OPEN RECALLS AND THE LEMON LAWS HERE IN MA. I FEEL LIKE I AM STUCK WITH A LEMON MYSELF. TAKATA RECALL. I WENT TO TACOMA DODGE TO PURCHASE MY FIRST VEHICLE. IT WAS PRE OWNED WITHOUT WARRANTY. THIS WAS AROUND OCTOBER 2016. NOT EVEN A YEAR INTO MY FIRST CAR AND IT STARTED SHOWING TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION AND HAS DIED ON ME MORE THAN FIVE TIMES. SOMETIMES ON THE FREEWAY WITH PEOPLE GOING OVER 60 MPH PUTTING ME AT RISK AND FAMILY MEMBERS. IT'S BEEN STATIONARY FOR ALMOST A YEAR LATER AND THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY PRINTED A LIST OF FAULTS FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS THE DAY I SIGNED FOR THE VEHICLE OTHERWISE I WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN IT.

FUEL GAUGE INDICATED 71 MILES TO EMPTY, 2 DAYS AFTER DEALER SUPPOSEDLY RECALIBRATED FUEL GAUGE BY REPROGRAMMING COMPUTER. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS. DEALER SAYS CLUTCH (IN THIS AUTOMATIC VEHICLE) FAILED "SHUDDER TEST", AND NEEDS $1500 REPLACEMENT. HE SAYS THIS COULD EXPLAIN CAR SHUTTING OFF. I CANNOT RISK MY PREGNANT DAUGHTER BEING STRANDED BY THIS CAR. VERY DISAPPOINTED INFORD AND THIS DEALER.
THE CAR WILL CUT OFF ONCE YOU TRY TO START IT UP AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS. IT ALSO STALLS WHILE YOU'RE SITTING IDLE AT A LIGHT. THE GAS GAUGE IS ALSO BROKEN. IT STAYS AT FULL AND MOVES AROUND FREELY.

I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR KEPT TURNING OF. IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN I WAS DRIVING. IT DOESN'T SHUTTER AND STALL, IT JUST SHUTS OFF. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH P1450 AND P0456. IT IS EVIDENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2010-2011 FORD FUSIONS FOR THE EXACT SAME THING. "SOME OF THESE VEHICLES MIGHT HAVE A CANISTER PURGE VALVE THAT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, CAUSING INTERNAL PRESSURE CHANGES INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. REPEATED PRESSURE CHANGES INSIDE THE TANK COULD RESULT IN A CRACK ON THE TOP OF THE TANK, POSSIBLY ALLOWING FUEL TO LEAK. A FUEL LEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN LEAD TO A FIRE." THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE FORD FOCUS MODELS AFFECTED, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND NOT RELATED TO NORMAL WEAR. IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE AND A VERY COSTLY ONE TO REPAIR. I AM UNDER 60,000 MILES. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS A RECALL ON ONE MODEL, BUT NOT THE OTHER FOR THE EXACT SAME MANUFACTURER ISSUE. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $1800 FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I WAS ALMOST HIT, BECAUSE IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS MAKING A TURN. IT CAUSED ME EXTREME ANXIETY. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST MANUFACTURER ISSUE I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. TODAY, I STALLED OUT COMPLETELY WHILE ACCELERATING ON 25TH STREET (ON MY LUNCH HOUR). I HAD TO CALL A TOW FOR THE 2ND TIME. SHOULD NOT HAPPEN ON A CAR THIS NEW. IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE WHEN PUSHING ON THE GAS AND DRIVING AT ABOUT 40-50MPH. THE NOISE WAS LOUD LIKE A RACE CAR, VIBRATION NOISE. I TOOK IT IN TO FORD THE FOLLOWING DAY AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. I MOSTLY DRIVE ON STREET, NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR IS REGULARLY SERVICED, WELL-MAINTAINED, AND HAS APPROX. 94,000 MILES. VERDICT FROM FORD DEALERSHIP MECHANIC: VACUUM PURGE VALVE WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. THE VACUUM FORCE THAT RESULTED DAMAGED/WARPED FUEL TANK, AND DAMAGED THE FUEL PUMP. THE PURGE VALVE, FUEL TANK, AND FUEL PUMP ALL MUST BE REPLACED. COST: THE COST OF REPAIRS IS OVER $2000, PLUS TOWING THE CAR, AND THE NEED FOR MY FAMILY TO GET A RENTAL VEHICLE FOR A WEEK. MISC: THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS ITEM AND THIS COULD PROVE EXCEPTIONALLY DANGEROUS IF IT OCCURRED ON A HIGHWAY ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU LOSE POWER STEERING WHEN THE ENGINE DIES SUDDENLY.
WHEN ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY HESITANT TO DRIVE ON A FLAT ROAD. THIS ISSUE GETS WORST WHEN ON A UPWARD HILL. TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS DONE AND TOLD IT WOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY. APPROX 30 MILES LATER THE VEHICLE AGAIN CAME TO A STOP, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE, ONLY THE GEAR IT WAS IN BLINKED. TOLD BY SEPARATE FORD DEALERSHIP THAT THE TCM MODULE NEEDS REPLACEMENT. PRIOR TO SOFTWARE UPDATE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO ON, BUT AFTER THAT IT WOULD NOT BUT THE VEHICLE DID CONTINUE TO COME TO A STOP. COULD REV THE ENGINE BUT TO NO AVAIL. STOPPING INCIDENTS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN A FEW DAYS. THE NEXT DAY I AM IN TOWN SHOPPING AND I TURN INTO A PARKING PLACE AND WHILE I AM IN THE PROCESS MY CAR MAKES A CLINKING, SCREECHING SOUND AND THEN ACTS LIKE IT HAS FALLEN BACK OUT OF GEAR AGAIN! THIS TIME IT DOES NOT GO BACK INTO GEAR SO I CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE IT TOWED TO THEM AND THEN THE TCM WAS PUT INTO IT. I AM NOW ACTUALLY SCARED OF DRIVING THIS CAR. SO, I HAVE HAD THE CAR REPROGRAMED ONCE...3 COMPLETE GEAR FAILURES...NEW TCM... WE NEED FORD TO BUY BACK THIS CAR IT IS DANGEROUS!!!
ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON, STARTING TO GET ON INTERSTATE, CAR WOULD NOT EXCELERATE PAST 30 MILE PER HOUR ALL THE WAY HOME ABOUT 45 MILES
WHILE DRIVING HOME, I CAME TO A STOP BEHIND A CAR AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. IT WAS AS IF THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND I WAS STEPPING ON THE GAS. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF ME. I HAD TO COMPLETELY TURN OFF MY CAR WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE CAR. NO LATER THAN 15 MINUTES LATER WHILE ON A HILL BY MY APARTMENT, THE CAR ONCE AGAIN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IF I HADN'T PRESSED ON THE BRAKE AS QUICK AS I DID, IT WOULD'VE ROLLED BACK ON THE CAR BEHIND ME. I HAVE HAD 3 TRANSMISSION RELATED ISSUES WITH THIS CAR AND 2 INCIDENCES PRIOR TO TODAY THAT INVOLVED ENDANGERING MY LIFE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO FORD 3 TIMES IN ONE YEAR. THIS CAR IS INDEED A SAFETY HAZARD AND WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND LAWSUITS, NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.
IN OCTOBER 2014 THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING TRANSMISSION CLUTCH SHUDDER. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION LOOKED AT ON 11.19.14. ON THE DAY PRIOR TO SAID APPOINTMENT, ROY O'BRIEN FORD CANCELED MY APPOINTMENT STATING THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE. I HAVE NOW BEEN CALLING BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR EIGHT MONTHS ATTEMPTING TO HAVE MY VEHICLE INSPECTED. I ALSO FILED A CASE NUMBER WITH FORD ON 01.13.15 - #CAS5815506. TO THIS DATE NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I FINALLY CALLED FORD AGAIN ON 5.11.15 AND WAS TOLD, BY PATRICIA - A 2ND LEVEL CUSTOMER SERVICE REP" THAT IT'S "NOT REALLY A RECALL". MY 2012 FORD FOCUS SEL DIES WHEN A 'ENGINE MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW' MESSAGE APPEARS. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. I PURCHASED MY FORD FOCUS 2012 FIVE MONTHS AGO AND IT HAS NOW HAD TO GO TO THE SHOP 4 TIMES. FIRST, THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS DRIVING OVER A RUMBLE STRIP AND WAS SLIPPING BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEARS. THE AC COMPRESSOR IN MY 2012 FORD FOCUS BLEW UP TODAY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME IT HAD BEEN COMING APART FOR A WHILE AND IT HAS NOW DESTROYED THE ENTIRE AC SYSTEM. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS NOT ISOLATED TO MY AC. EVEN IF I WANTED TO DRIVE SANS AC, THEN THIS ISSUE WOULD SOON RENDER MY CAR INOPERABLE. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW BAD THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE FREEWAY. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS INDICATING THIS PENDING DISASTER (A/C FUNCTIONING & NO WEIRD NOISES). MY FORD HAS HAD ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICES AND ANY ADDITIONAL PREVENTATIVE SERVICES RELATED TO THE AC COMPRESSOR WERE NEVER BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION. THIS IS MOST LIKELY BECAUSE A PROBLEM OF THIS NATURE SHOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE WITH A WELL MAINTAINED CAR THAT IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD; HOWEVER, POSSIBLY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SHOULD HAVE PICKED UP ON IT. VEHICLE DOES NOT START WHEN KEY IS TURNED. ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS COME ON BUT ENGINE DOES NOT CRANK. ENGINE FINALLY STARTS NORMALLY AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO TURN THE KEY (20+) AND THEN RUNS FINE. THIS PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURS AFTER THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN USED FOR SEVERAL HOURS, I.E. BEING PARKED IN THE GARAGE OVERNIGHT OR AFTER A SHIFT AT WORK. ONCE THE CAR STARTS, IT CAN USUALLY BE TURNED OFF AND THEN START AGAIN WITHOUT INCIDENT, AS LONG AS THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN RECENTLY. THIS BEGAN AS A SPORADIC ISSUE BUT NOW HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY TIME I TRY AND START THE CAR IN THE MORNING OR AFTER WORK. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 2014 FOR MY DAUGHTER. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY WHILE PULLING OUT OF PARKING LOT, THE "ENGINE" INDICATOR CAME ON AND CAR BEGIN TO HESITATE, WHEN SHE GOT ON THE HIGHWAY SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MORE THAN 40 MPH AND THE TACHOMETER WAS FLIPPING FROM ONE SIDE OF THE DIAL TO THE OTHER. SHE MANAGED TO THE DRIVE THE CAR HOME. I STARTED THE CAR, THE LIGHT WAS OFF AND IT DROVE "NORMAL". I COULD FEEL THAT THERE WAS A SLIGHT HESITATION AND A SLIGHT VIBRATION WHEN IDLING. I CALLED THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY, HE SPOKE WITH SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY STATED WHATEVER THE PROBLEM WAS, IT SELF-CORRECTED ITSELF; BUT TO BRING IT IN IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I AM PARTICULARLY UPSET BECAUSE I PURCHASED THIS AS AN UPGRADE FROM THE CHEVY COBALT. AFTER THIS 2ND INCIDENT, ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. 2ND TRIP TO DEALER, SINCE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, THEY WERE ABLE TO ADJUST SOMETHING IN COMPUTER. CAR DID OK NEXT 10 DAYS. THEN STARTED DOING THE 'REVVING ACCELERATOR' BUT NO INCREASE IN SPEED AGAIN--TWICE ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS. TODAY, 5TH EPISODE IN 5TH WEEK, CAR HESITATED, ALL DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, VERY LOUD 'BOOM' OR 'THUD' IN ENGINE. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SHOULDER. THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS AND AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. "IS THERE ANY SERVICE BULLETINS THAT WERE SENT TO YOUR TECHNICIANS REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE?" THEIR RESPONSE "THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE ANY SERVICE BULLETINS...ETC." THEY FINALLY DIRECTED ME TO THIS WEBSITE AND I ONLY HOPE THE RIGHT PEOPLE READ MY COMPLAINT TO BETTER RESOLVE MY ISSUE. *JS
TO DATE 8/20/2013 THE CAR HAS DIED 8 TIMES AND 4 TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK. THE SEQUENCE I USE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN IS AFTER THE SSN WARNING, PULL OVER, TURN INGITION OFF, OPEN DOOR, CLOSE DOOR, LOCK CAR, UNLOCK CAR, PRESS START. IT ONLY STARTED TO HAPPEN AFTER THE UPDATE WAS DONE. IT HAPPENS OVER BUMPS, ON THE FREEWAY, IN A PARKING LOT AND HAPPENS AT ALL SPEEDS AND HAPPENS RANDOMLY. FORTUNATELY IT HAS NOT YET CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BUT IT EASILY CAN ESPECIALLY IF IN THE FAST LANE ON THE FREEWAY OR IN AN INTERSECTION.

CLUTCH QUIT AT APPROX. 26,000MI. THIS WAS PRECEDED BY HEAVY SHUDDERING AND VIBRATIONS (FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS). THE MANUFACTURER, FOMOCO, DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TWO WEEKS AGO BUT WAS UNABLE (OR UNWILLING) TO IMMEDIATELY REPLACE THE PART, PUTTING ME IN A LONG, "BACKORDER" QUEUE. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 8/28/13 AS I TRIED TO PULL ONTO THE BUSY INTERSECTION. MY CAR DID NOT WANT TO CHANGE GEARS AND HAD NO POWER AT ALL. I HAD TO BE TOWED SINCE I WAS OVER AN HOUR AWAY FROM MY HOME. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE THIS DATE. I CALLED ON 8/30/13 AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS OK FOR ME TO TAKE MY CAR AND DRIVE IT OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. I ASKED IF IT WOULD HURT THE CAR TO DRIVE IT AND ALSO IF IT WOULD BE SAFE. THE TECHNICIANS ASSURED ME THAT IT WOULD BE PERFECTLY FINE AND THAT I WAS TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 9/3/13 AND WHEN THE PART CAME IN, THE CAR WOULD BE REPAIRED. I DECIDED TO TAKE MY CAR AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE IT HOME. APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF MILE DOWN THE ROAD I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS HAVING GREAT DIFFICULTY TRYING TO CHANGE GEARS AND HAD NO POWER AT ALL. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY AN ONCOMING CAR BECAUSE MINE WAS STALLED AND JUST SITTING THERE. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WILL REMAIN UNTIL IT IS COMPLETELY REPAIRED. 1. MY 2012 FORD FOCUS IS STALLING OUT AND REVVING UP AT HIGH RPMS THEN STALLING OUT FOR THE LAST 4 MONTHS. 2. THIS IS THE FOURTH OCCURRENCE FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS. 3 TIMES IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS. 3. THE FIRST TWO TIMES, FORD COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM AND RELATED TO DRIVING AT HIGH RPMS OR SPINNING ON GRAVEL WHICH NEVER OCCURRED. I ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD REV AT HIGH RPMS BUT NOT GO ANYWHERE THEN STALL, NOT ON A GRAVEL ROAD BUT A MAJOR HIGHWAY GOING 55-60 MPH. TWICE THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE OTHER TIMES I COULD DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AT 30MPH BUT IT WOULD CONTINUOUSLY STALL OUT. THE THIRD TIME THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER WHICH DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE FOURTH TIME OCCURRED AND MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR A OVER A WEEK AND THEY STILL CANNOT FIGURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. MY VEHICLE HAS 41,000 MILES AND STILL COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN. FORD IS REFUSING TO BUY THE VEHICLE BACK UNDER STATE LEMON LAWS AND NOT GIVING ME AN OFFER FOR DIMINISHED VALUE FOR THE HIT I AM GOING TO TAKE ON THE TRADE IN ONCE I HOPEFULLY GET THE VEHICLE BACK OPERATIONAL. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ALSO STATED THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
WAS TOLD THIS CAR HAD "AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION". AFTER A FEW HUNDRED MILES ON IT, I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED SPORADICALLY AND WITH NO PREDICTION. ENGINE SHUDDERED, CAR LOST POWER AND WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE KEY HERE IS NO PREDICTION AS TO HOW THE CAR WILL REACT WHEN UNDER ACCELERATION. TOOK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD "THIS ISN'T AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - IT'S A COMPUTER- CONTROLLED MANUAL THAT HAS TO LEARN HOW YOU DRIVE". DEALER UPLOADED A COMPUTER UPDATE FROM FORD. THE NEXT HUNDRED MILES OF DRIVING ALMOST CAUSED NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS DUE TO LACK OF ACCELERATION AND UNEVEN PERFORMANCE. 6/4/2012 I TRIED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND CAR REFUSED TO SPEED UP. I ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT, BUT NUMEROUS DRIVERS SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES AND/OR SWERVED AND AVERTED MULTIPLE COLLISIONS. TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER 6/5/2012 AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. WAS TOLD BY HEAD TECH "IT JUST HAS TO GET USED TO HOW YOU DRIVE". I TOLD HIM THERE WERE THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE DRIVING THIS FOCUS. HE SAID WE CAN'T, BECAUSE THAT WOULD JUST END UP TOTALLY "CONFUSING" THE COMPUTER. AS THE CAR IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, IT IS STILL AT THE DEALER. MILES ON VEHICLE ARE UNDER 800.

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, DRIVE SHAFT AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEMS. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK FORWARD, HESITATE AND WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR FAST ENOUGH WHEN CHANGING LANES. MY FORD FOCUS SEL 2012 HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING SHUDDERING FEELINGS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOP. IT FEELS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS ABOUT TO STALL AND THEN IT KICKS BACK UP AND JOLTS MY CARS BACK AND FORTH FOR SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE RESUMING NORMAL SPEED AFTER 10 MPH. THESE SEVERAL SECONDS ARE VITAL WHEN YOU ARE DEALING WITH FAST TRAFFIC IN CALIFORNIA OR ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER. THIS CREATED A DELAY IN THE ACCELERATION TIME, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE CONTACT SEVERAL FORD OFFICIALS ABOUT THIS AND THEY KEEP SAYING THAT IT IS NORMAL AND THAT THERE IS A BREAK IN PERIOD. WHY WAS I NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR?
