2015 Ford Explorer Body & Structure Problems

A recall was issued in Jan 2024 - notice 24S02/NHTSA Recall 24V031. In the fall, maybe September 2024, we had still been unable to schedule an inspection by the dealership. We were driving on the interstate, and part of the exterior A-pillar trim detached and flew off of the car into traffic, where it could have potentially caused an accident, had there been more traffic at the time.

See attached document for complaint. I am writing in regard to an open recall on my Ford Explorer. In February 2024 I received a letter from Ford about a safety recall notice, 24S02/HNTSA, explaining that A-pillar applique trim clip attachment was improperly assembled.

From what I understand, Ford has not come up with a solution for the exterior a--pillar applique trim clip attachments. I fully believe they have abandoned this issue as its not a brand new vehicle. Well, its new to me so it fully counts and should not be abandoned.

The pillar trim recall has been in effect for nearly 2 years. I took my husband’s Explorer (I am his legal guardian as he suffered [XXX] and he has been hospitalized for over a year) to Chillicothe MO Ford in October of 2024 for the safety recall on this trim issue, as my A pillar trim flew off from the highway and may have impacted another vehicle on [XXX] between St.

The A-pillar trim piece on the passenger side of my 2015 Explorer came off of the vehicle while it was being driven. This could have put someone on the road behind me at risk of a serious accident. I took it to the Ford dealership and they inspected it and determined that both A-pillar trim pieces need to be repaired and replaced under an existing recall from Ford Motor Co..

The exterior right-side A-pillar panel departed the vehicle unexpectedly while driving at highway speeds (~70 MPH). No early warning signs or indications were present. The incident occurred on the highway at night.

Passenger side front window trim (column). The rubber seal started flapping on the expressway (60-70mph), followed by the entire trim piece ripping off. Created a significant distraction for driver and passenger.

I was driving on the highway on my way to work and the windshield trim panel on the passenger side flew off of my vehicle. This is definitely a safety hazard as this flying part could have hit another vehicle and/or caused an accident.

-Driver side front door/window trim flew right off while on freeway and almost hit another car. This is actually the 2nd time the trim came off after being repaired not even 5 months ago (I didn't file a complaint the first time). -It could hit another car or motorcycle while going high speeds and possibly cause a crash.

A-Pillar molding suddenly detached and flew off while driving down interstate. The driver's side flew off in October of 2020. Caused me to swerve as I thought I hit something.

When driving the vehicle, I can smell gas fumes which caused nausea. I didn’t know it was worse in the back of the cabin where my children sit until I sat back there for a 3 hour trip. The smell was stronger there which LED to headache, nausea and fatigue.

Driving on the highway, my left windshield trim flew off. This could have hurt someone or caused an accident. There was no warning prior to it coming off.

On jan 20, 2021 my 2015 ford explorer left driver side lower windshield moulding panel flew off into traffic. I was travelling at 45 MPH on a windy day. I circled around and someone had run over it and so it was not repairable.

I was driving down the highway and all of a sudden there's a snap noise and then I see this rubber flapping at the windshield on the passenger side. When it first started hitting the windshield it scared us half to death. I got off the highway and pulled over to look and seen the passenger windshield pillar had completely broken in half while I was driving, flew off and was gone.

When having the recalls fixed on my explorer the back liftgate is not center even the dealership fixing it said it was not also. They informed me I would need to bring it to a body shop to have it fixed. I have never been in an accident or hit anything so there is no reason for it not to be centered.

Car hood paint is bubbling and painting. There have been no accidents and the car only has 33,000 miles on it. Ford will not cover it under the mfgr warranty since the in service date is over 3 years.

The trim piece on your passenger side A-pillar (the vertical support between your windshield and side window) cracked and came loose while driving, leaving it hanging across your windshield. This allowed outside air and moisture to leak into your vehicle's interior. You received a recall notice about this issue, but replacement parts weren't available to fix it, and Ford hasn't provided assistance to resolve the problem.

While driving at 75 MPH, the trim piece on the outside of your A-pillar (the vertical support between your windshield and side window) came loose, flapped against your window, and then fell off the vehicle. Your dealer inspected the vehicle under a Ford recall but found the replacement part wasn't available yet and couldn't complete the repair. When you checked with NHTSA, you learned your vehicle's VIN was no longer covered by that recall. The fix would involve replacing the windshield exterior A-pillar trim with the proper replacement piece from Ford.

Your rear-view camera stops working or only works intermittently when you shift into Reverse. Your vehicle is under two active recalls related to this issue, but your dealer says replacement parts aren't available yet. This makes it difficult to see behind your car when backing up.

The PILLAR APPLIQUE TRIM has came off on BOTH sides of my windshield. I was driving down the highway and the trim came 90% off. I swerved wondering what was going on, almost wrecked and had to slow down to exit.

Windshield Trim: My windshield trim began stripping off of my windshield as I was traveling on highway speeds on I-10 back in August 2022. I managed to "glue" the trim back into place until getting to the dealership. They informed me that it would be cheaper to replace the whole windshield since I had existing chips and a crack (through my insurance) than it would be to replace the trim.

This car has started showing all signs of corrosion on the front hood. I have done my own research and found thousands of other explorers with the same issue. Every outcome has been different from each dealership to another.

Front passenger side windshield molding became loose and broke off while driving on highway. The windshield seal also flew up and approximately 3 feet of the the seal came off and was flapping against passenger window before coming completely detached. It looks like some of the white clips are broken on that side windshield panel so we are unsure how to fix this.

I discovered 5 inches of standing water in the interior of the vehicle where the spare tire is stored. There is no clear source of the leak on my inspection but the carpets are soaked and there is a smell of mold and mildew in the interior. After even a moderate rainfall, the vehicle leaks in the front passenger footwell and from the map light. The leaking primarily occurs when the vehicle is parked in our drivers. 5 repair attempts over the course of several months, including a full replacement of the sunroof, have not found or resolved the problem.

Since purchased brand new in 2015, we noticed when accelerating that there was an exhaust smell inside the cab with the windows closed. We also noticed on long trips we would get headaches and feel sleepy/weak. Called the dealer and complained about exhaust odor, and was told it would be 600-700 dollars to reseal the cab and do some other repairs.

After 2 years of use the paint on the front of the hood is bubbling. Clearly this is a manufacturing defect as this is a garage car and has been taken care of. On the advice of customer service, I took the car to the dealership who indicated that this is not a uncommon issue.

Have been hearing a vibration sound coming from the drivers side windshield for about a week but couldn't find the source of the sound. Today, while driving on the highway at 65 MPH, the black molding from the drivers side windshield flew off. Luckily, there was nobody behind us when it happened.

Exhaust fumes are entering the cabin. This happens mostly under heavy acceleration with the AC running. Recently the exhaust fumes will enter the cabin sitting at a stop light if the windows are open.

I received a recall letter in February 2024 stating there was a recall on my vehicle and that the parts for fixing the recall were out of stock, and they should be available in the latter half of 2024.

Best Ford in NH stated NHTSA recall 24v031 was completed but it was not, possible fraud.

The a pillar trim is defective and there is a currently recall. However the last updated said parts will be available in 2024. We are currently halfway through 2025 with no resolution.

On the hood, the paint is coming off (and has been for several years). It looks like maybe where it was "clamped" (for lack of better words) while they were painting the hood and maybe the paint didn't adhere like it should. I have actually seen several 2015 Ford Explorers that have the exact same paint spots missing on their hoods.

The external A pillar clip is clearly malfunctioned with no remedy available

Outer Windshield Panel on Drivers Side completely detached and blew off into oncoming and following traffic without warning. It did not make contact with any vehicle or pedestrian, however the risk was still there.

While driving on the freeway, the windshield trim panel on the passenger side detached, lifted, and folded about 2/3 of the way up the panel. The detached portion then banged against the roof of the vehicle, door, and front passenger window until it snapped and flew off. It put us and other motorists in danger.

The window trim came off while I was going 60mph. It was very loud and scary. I had no warning.

I currently have a 2015 Ford Explorer. This is the 2nd time that I am having to replace the windshield trim on the passenger side due to it flying off while driving.

The passenger side window trim flew off on the expressway. Barely missing the vehicle behind. The drivers side trim looks as if it's becoming detached also.

The windshield trim piece on the passenger side flew off while driving and could have hit another vehicle /property or a person causing damage or injury. Online research indicates there is a known issue with these parts. However, I was unable to locate a recall.

This startled me which caused me to be momentarily distracted. I just thought this was a rare incident so I did not initially report it however I was prompted to report my incident after hearing about other incidents on the news.

The passenger cabin both front and rear has the pungent smell of exhaust whenever the vehicle is: - engine running and - either in park or drive and - either moving or stationary and - either highway or city driving and - going 0 MPH, or 10 MPH or 20 MPH or 50 MPH and - either turning or straight and - with the heat on or off and - with the air conditioning on or off and - with all of the windows sealed (up) the fumes seem to make us not feel well and make our eyes burn.

The paint is starting to bubble in several spots on the front edge of the hood. I see no rust of any kind just bubbling paint. I meticulously care for this car regular wash and waxes.

There is a terrible exhaust smell that comes into the interior cabin. The smell is even worse upon extended hard acceleration. In addition, there is bubbling in my hood due to faulty hoods being produced on ford explorers.

I was driving down the highway at 75 MPH and heard a huge pop on the passenger window and something black fly by. We pulled over and saw that the plastic black trim on the sides of the windshield broke in half and the rubber was hanging off. I had to cut it off.

Paint is peeling on the edge of the hood. Two explorers 2015 family owns and peeling in the same location. Contacted ford and was told we had to buy a new hood.

Exterior door handle came unhindered and it made the door to the point it cannot close.

My vehicle exhibited a bubbling or blistering under the paint on aluminum body parts (hood). It was stated on ford's technical service bulletins TSB 04-25-1, TSB # 06-25-15, and the latest TSB 16-0028 that this was due to iron contamination of the aluminum panel. Ford's warranty shows to be 5yr/unlimited mileage.

The SUV is only 3 years old we bought it new from the lot then. I noticed today the hood is bubbling up and the paint is chipping off. This drivers door is cracking at the seem.

Passenger side windshield trim flew off while traveling on the highway at 70 MPH.

The hood on our 2015's paint is peeling off. We are told the same hood is on the 2016 explorer and there is a recall on the paint...we have bumper to bumper warranty. How do we get this repainted.

Wife was driving car on highway. Driver side window molding blew off while going 60 MPH on highway. Had to swerve to miss it.

Passenger side "a post" window molding blew off during highway driving at 60mph. Molding showed no signs of failure prior to incident.

During the use of the ventilation system the cabin of the vehicle will fill with exhaust odor while sitting still or during movement down all roads. This smell grows the more the vehicle speeds up. The vehicle has 30k miles.

The frame around the front window flies off. The right side (about 2 foot piece) flew off when driving down the interstate about 2 months ago. The left side flew off last week while again driving down the interstate.
