Component: STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles. The front impact bar, a structural portion of the vehicle frame, may not be properly welded to the front frame rail.

Risk: An improperly welded front impact bar may result in the front crash sensors not performing correctly, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

Fix: Dealers will inspect the right-hand and left-hand side of the vehicle's motor rail for an incomplete weld. If the condition is found, the vehicle will be repurchased by GM. Owner notification letters were mailed January 20, 2023. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.

Your check engine light is on, and you've had it diagnosed twice — both times the mechanic identified a turbocharger issue. You've noticed reduced engine power, and you've found online that 2022 Malibus are subject to a GM recall for turbocharger problems. The repair is expensive and you're concerned about affording it. Contact your Chevrolet dealer about the recall, as covered recalls are performed at no cost to you.

Your check engine light came on, and diagnostic scans revealed a P0299 code indicating a failed turbocharger. Your car is experiencing reduced engine power and going into limp mode (limited performance mode). Although GM issued a special warranty coverage program for 2022 Chevy Malibus as of November 2025, your vehicle is not covered under this program for some reason. The fix will likely require turbocharger replacement or repair through a GM dealer.

Your car displays a "shift to park" warning message even though the car is already in park when you turn off the engine. Restarting the car, shifting to reverse, and shifting back to park temporarily clears the message, but it returns when you turn the engine off again. This issue repeats each time you try the sequence. The fix likely involves diagnosing the park position sensor or transmission position switch to determine if it needs cleaning, adjustment, or replacement.

Your turbocharger's wastegate arm failed, causing your engine to lose boost and power suddenly while driving. You noticed a check engine light and reduced power message before the failure occurred. This sudden loss of power created a safety hazard, especially when you needed to accelerate for merging or crossing intersections. The repair will likely involve replacing the turbocharger wastegate arm and clearing any diagnostic trouble codes.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your car is shutting off while you're driving, and the dashboard displays a message telling you to press the brake to start the engine. This is a serious drivability issue that requires immediate attention, as your engine is unexpectedly dying during operation. The problem likely involves the electrical system, starter, or engine control module and will need diagnostic testing to identify the exact cause.

Your 2022 Malibu sometimes doesn't recognize when you shift into Park, causing the engine to stay running and preventing you from turning off the car — you may need to shift back and forth multiple times to make it register. This is a safety concern because the car could roll or you can't properly secure it when parked. Even though this is a known issue with a technical service bulletin from GM, your dealership is refusing to repair it under warranty without charging you a $370 diagnostic fee first. The fix will likely require the dealership to reprogram or replace the transmission control module or related electrical components.

Filed: Dec 2025

Your car lost power while merging on the highway and went into limp mode, nearly causing an accident. The check engine light came on, and diagnostic scans showed a turbo underboost fault code (P0299). Even after replacing all turbo-related sensors, the problem persists, suggesting the turbocharger itself may have failed. The turbocharger will likely need to be inspected, repaired, or replaced.

Your Malibu experienced an engine overheating warning, and after repair attempts, it now shows repeated check-engine warnings and loses power unexpectedly. During these power loss episodes, your car hesitates and can't accelerate normally — including once while driving on the highway with a passenger, forcing you to pull out of traffic. These issues keep happening despite previous service visits, making highway driving and merging unsafe. The repair will likely involve diagnosing the engine control system, fuel delivery, or ignition components to identify why power is being reduced.

Filed: Mar 2026

Your check engine light came on while driving, and the dealer found a turbocharger failure that was under recall. After the recall repair, the problem returned, and the dealer discovered the charger air cooler also failed and needed replacement. The diagnostic code P0234 indicates an over-boost condition in the turbocharger system. Repairs may require replacement of the turbocharger, charger air cooler, or associated boost control components.

Filed: Mar 2026

Your 2022 Malibu stalled unexpectedly while driving at 30-35 mph with no warning lights. A mechanic found a diagnostic code indicating a fuel pump secondary circuit failure. The vehicle will need inspection and repair to diagnose whether the fuel pump itself or related wiring is causing the stalling issue.

Filed: Feb 2026

When you shift your car into park, the vehicle doesn't recognize the gear position and displays a "Shift to Park" message, preventing the engine from turning off completely. This creates a safety concern because you're unable to shut down the car as expected, and your battery could drain, leaving you stranded. The fix involves replacing an internal switch in the transmission or gear shift mechanism.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your engine warning light came on two months after purchasing your 2022 Malibu, along with a message saying "Engine Power Reduced" and poor performance. The diagnostic showed error code P0299 and others, and despite taking it to a Chevy dealership for repairs, the problem persists for over 6 months. Your engine light is now blinking constantly while the engine shakes noticeably and makes a ticking sound, indicating an ongoing powertrain issue that hasn't been fully resolved. The fix will likely involve identifying and replacing the faulty component causing the turbocharger or engine boost pressure problem that code P0299 indicates.
