Filed: Mar 2026

Your check engine light came on while driving, and the dealer found a turbocharger failure that was under recall. After the recall repair, the problem returned, and the dealer discovered the charger air cooler also failed and needed replacement. The diagnostic code P0234 indicates an over-boost condition in the turbocharger system. Repairs may require replacement of the turbocharger, charger air cooler, or associated boost control components.

Your turbocharger's waste gate failed at under 66,000 miles, shortly after your warranty expired. GM has recalled some vehicles for turbo issues on 1.5L engines, and this component should be replaced on all models of this year. The repair will likely involve replacing the turbocharger assembly or waste gate component.

Your check engine light is on, and you've had it diagnosed twice — both times the mechanic identified a turbocharger issue. You've noticed reduced engine power, and you've found online that 2022 Malibus are subject to a GM recall for turbocharger problems. The repair is expensive and you're concerned about affording it. Contact your Chevrolet dealer about the recall, as covered recalls are performed at no cost to you.

Your car suddenly lost power while driving and wouldn't go faster than 40 MPH, with the check engine light turning on. Your car went into limp mode to protect the engine. A mechanic diagnosed a failed turbocharger that needed replacement, but neither the independent shop nor the dealer repaired it. This happened at around 110,022 miles. The turbocharger will need to be replaced to restore normal engine performance.

Your check engine light came on, and diagnostic scans revealed a P0299 code indicating a failed turbocharger. Your car is experiencing reduced engine power and going into limp mode (limited performance mode). Although GM issued a special warranty coverage program for 2022 Chevy Malibus as of November 2025, your vehicle is not covered under this program for some reason. The fix will likely require turbocharger replacement or repair through a GM dealer.

Your 2022 Malibu stalled unexpectedly several times while driving at 50 mph, then entered limp mode with the check engine light on—though it restarted each time. A mechanic diagnosed a failed turbocharger with oil leaking into it. The turbocharger will need to be replaced to fix the stalling and limp mode issue.
