WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 65MPH, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATED STOP! OIL PRESSURE ENGINE OFF! AND CAR WENT INTO LIMP. WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF EXIT. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED FROM HIGHWAY TO REPAIR SHOP. DIAGNOSED TO BE A FAILURE IN THE HEX DRIVE BIT FROM THE BALANCE SHAFT MODULE TO THE OIL PUMP. ALSO CAUSED TURBOCHARGER FAILURE DUE TO LACK OF OIL FLOW. CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED TO REQUIRED SCHEDULE AND HAD NO PRIOR INDICATIONS OF IMMINENT FAILURE.
THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN TO TURN OFF ENGINE - SO WE WERE NOT ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF.

THE CONTACT REPLACED THE SENSOR, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 173,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE AND EPC WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK, STALL, AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR AND CRANK SHAFT SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO OURISMAN VOLKSWAGEN OF BETHESDA (7001 ARLINGTON RD, BETHESDA, MD 20814, (301) 750-6100) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM BRIDGE SPRING DISINTEGRATED AND POPPED OUT INTO THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER QUOTED A REPAIR COST OF OVER $5,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,084.
2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WOLFSBURG 2.0TSI TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE. AT 109K MILES THE CAR WOULD NOT START IN THE AM TO GO TO WORK. THIS HAPPENED ON 12/23/16. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER HAD FAILED. THE ENGINE WILL NEED BETWEEN $3600 AND $5500 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE COMPONENTS. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH TO CALL VW CUSTOMER CARE BECAUSE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY MAY HELP WITH THE REPAIRS. VW TOLD ME THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM A MECHANIC THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY EMPLOYED BY VW AND HE VERIFIED THE DIAGNOSIS. THE CAR IS STILL SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY LARGE ISSUE THAT GOES BACK TO THE 2008 MODEL YEAR. THERE ARE SEVERAL CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE. ONE CASE FILED IN NEW JERSEY IN MAY 2016 HAS JUST HAD ANOTHER HEARING ON MAY 9TH 2017 WHERE THE SUPREME COURT OF NJ HAS AGREED TO LET THE CASE GO FORWARD STATING THERE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE SHOWING VW AT FAULT. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION FROM THE DEALER AND CAN PROVIDE THAT ONCE I AM BACK AT MY HOME. ANY HELP THE MANY CONSUMERS THAT OWN VW AND AUDI VEHICLES WITH THE 2.0TSI ENGINE FROM 2008-2013 CAN GET WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. RESEARCHING VW 2.0TSI TIMING TENSIONER ON THE INTERNET WILL BRING UP THE HUNDREDS, IF NOT MORE, OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE PAID UPWARDS OF $10K TO HAVE ENGINES REPAIRED ON CARS THAT HAVE AS LITTLE AS 30K MILES ON THEM. THE VW SERVICE MANUAL DOES NOT MENTION THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER NEEDING SERVICE AT A PARTICULAR MILEAGE.
ENGINE REAR MAIN SEAL FAILED ON 80,000 MILES. ENGINE OIL LEAKING.
FIRST MY CAR HAD TROUBLE TURNING OVER AFTER A MISFIRE. THEN WHILE DRIVING THE CAR (IN MOTION) AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND FEEL AS IF IT WAS LUNGING FORWARD. I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE VW SERVICE CENTER WHICH WAS NEARBY. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME IT IS A TIMING ISSUE WHICH I SUSPECT TO BE THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER.
THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT IDLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES. FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD AT UNKNOWN LOCATION. INITIAL SMELL OF "SOMETHING HOT" WAS FOLLOWED BY SMOKE THROUGH VENTS. NOTICED SMOKE BETWEEN HOOD AND WINDSHIELD. PAINT ON HOOD BUBBLED IN APPROXIMATE LOCATION ABOVE OIL CAP / DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER. SHUT ENGINE OFF AND EXITED THE VEHICLE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,020.
ENGINE FIRE IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSE UNKNOWN.
WE HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING. IT STARTED WITH THE EPC LIGHT COMING ON SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, BUT THE LIGHT DOES NOT STAY ON AND THERE HAS BEEN NO CONSISTENCY TO THE OCCURRENCES. HOWEVER, NOW, THE CAR WILL STAY RUNNING FOR LONG AND STALLS OUT SHORTLY AFTER STARTING. THE EPC COMES ON SOMETIMES, BUT NOT EVERY TIME THAT IS STALLS OUT. TODAY I TOOK THE CAR FOR A DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK, AS SOON AS I GOT IT BACK HOME, IT STALLED OUT. FROM THAT POINT ON THE CAR WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE AND GLOW PLUG WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT, A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER FROM THE AIR INTAKE COOLER NEEDED TO BE DRAINED.THE EXCESS WATER WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A FREE REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP 2 MONTHS AGO. WE HAVEN'T EVEN PUT 2,000 MILE ON THE CAR YET AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TALKED TO MY MECHANIC AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR AND HE TOLD ME THESE CARS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR MAF SENSOR FAILURES AND THAT IT IS NOT AN EASY FIX. IN FACT HE WON'T EVEN WORK ON THIS PROBLEM DUE TO HIS PAST EXPERIENCES WITH THIS EXACT PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO VW AND THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE TO WHOLE THROTTLE BODY AND REPROGRAM THE ECU. KINDA FUNNY HOW MY MECHANIC WARNED ME IF THIS PROBLEM AND WASN'T EVEN TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. SEEMS LIKE VW HAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THE FACT THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM SUCH AS RECALL OR OFFER CHEAP SOLUTIONS AND CHARGE OVER 1000$ TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND HAS TO BE DONE AT VW TO RESET THE ECU TELLS ME THEY ARE DOING THIS ON PURPOSE TO MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE ON REPAIRS THAT SHOULD ONLY COST A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS... COMPLETELY NOT SATISFIED WITH VW WILL NEVER BUY ONE AGAIN, WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ONE TO ANYONE IN FACT WILL CAMPAIGN TO BOYCOTT VW AT ALL COSTS!!
STOPPED AND LEFT THE LINE AT A GREEN LIGHT WHEN OUR 2009 JETTA TDI SPUTTERED AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP AND GIVEN AN INVOICE FOR $5500 FOR THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, WHICH IS IDENTIFIED A KNOWN ISSUE BY VW UNDER A SELF-IMPOSED EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT NEVER UNDER A RECALL. AS I WAS TOLD BY VW CUSTOMER SERVICE, SINCE THERE WAS NEVER A CATASTROPHIC ISSUE TO OUR VEHICLE PRIOR TO 120K MILES, INSTEAD AT 124K MILES, THE SAFETY ITEMS WERE NOT IDENTIFIED AND CORRECTED.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BEGAN SLOWING ITSELF DOWN. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE RPM INDICATOR WENT UP BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SPEED UP PAST 45 MPH AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VERY HARD THE REST OF THE WAY. WHEN I TOOK IT FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR, THE CODES P2431 AND P2432 INDICATED A FAULTY SENSOR IN THE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR. I WAS TOLD THAT VOLKSWAGON WAS AWARE OF THE PARTICULAR PROBLEM, WHICH HAS OCCURRED IN A HIGH NUMBER OF VEHICLES AND THEY IN FACT RECOMMENDED AN UPDATED VERSION OF THE INJECTION HOSE AND SENSOR. THIS WAS A $350 REPAIR ON A VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES AND ACCORDING TO VOLKSWAGON A COMMON REPAIR. I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR THAT CONSUMERS SHOULD ABSORB THE COST OF THIS TYPE OF REPAIR.

ALSO, AFTER GETTING THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALER, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS DUE TO THE ENGINE EXHAUST FLAP FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT OFF DURING TRAVEL, DUE TO FUEL FILTER BEING CLOGGED BY METAL DEBRIS. THE HIGH PRESSURE INJECTION PUMP FAILED EFFECTIVELY ENDING THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE. THE WELDS ON THE HIGH PRESSURE INJECTION PUMP HAD DETERIORATED, RESULTING METAL DEBRIS TO CIRCULATE THROUGH COMPLETE INJECTION SYSTEM. AFTER MULTIPLE FAILED ATTEMPTS TO FLUSH OUT THE INJECTION SYSTEM IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION WAS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE IF A REPLACEMENT COULD BE FOUND. A REPLACEMENT WAS FOUND AND THE CURRENT ENGINE INSTALLED HAS THE SAME HIGH PRESSURE INJECTION PUMP, AS A REPLACEMENT PART IS NOT AVAILABLE TO INDEPENDENT SHOPS, ONLY TO DEALERSHIPS. COST OF REPLACING ENGINE - $8,500.00. *TR

VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT OFF DURING TRAVEL, DUE TO FUEL FILTER BEING CLOGGED BY METAL DEBRIS. THE HIGH PRESSURE INJECTION PUMP FAILED EFFECTIVELY ENDING THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE. WE WERE DRIVING ON DOWN THE ROAD AND THE CARS LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING AND THEN CAR STOP RUNNING AND STOPPED DEAD IN THE ROAD. COULD NOT GET IT STARTED AGAIN. IF IT HAD BEEN ON THE FREEWAY I AM SURE I WOULD NOT BE TYPING THIS WE WOULD BE IN HOSPITAL OR WORSE. WE HAD TO GET OUT AND THE STEERING WAS NOT WORKING TO GET IT TO SIDE OF ROAD. I AM ELDERLY AND DO NOT HAVE ALOT OF STRENGTH. WE HAD TO PAY EXTRA TO AAA TO TOW IT SINCE WE WERE FAR AWAY FROM DEALER. THE DEALER CALLED AND SAID THERE WAS METAL SHAVINGS IN FUEL LINE AND COMPONENTS. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OF THE SAME THINGS HAPPENING TO OTHER CARS. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE. HAD CAR TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. THEY HAVE DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS LOW RAIL FUEL PRESSURE CAUSED BY FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THIS FAILURE CAUSED METAL SHAVINGS TO BE DISPERSED THROUGHOUT ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. I'M TOLD THAT THE HP FUEL PUMP, LOW AND HIGH PRESSURE FUEL REGULATORS, AND TANK FUEL PUMP ALL MUST BE REPLACED ALONG WITH A COMPLETE REMOVAL AND CLEANING OF ALL FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS. ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR IS BETWEEN $7,000 AND $10,000. THIS CAR IS A DIESEL TDI. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OUR 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTSWAGEN TDI ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE GLOW LIGHT CAME ON. I STOPPED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING AND STARTED SMOKING. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED BUT DID NOT KNOW THE REASON. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE ENGINE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD ALL OF THE RECOMMENDED SERVICES WHICH WERE DONE BY THE DEALER INCLUDING ALL OF THE OIL CHANGES. *TR

I AM "GUESSING AT SOME OF THE INFORMATION ABOVE SINCE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AND I DIDN'T GIVE IT MUCH THOUGHT THEN. AT THAT TIME, I WAS MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN TO ANOTHER STREET AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT OR SIGNAL. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND IT WORKED FINE. THIS OCCURRED SOMETIME IN MID TO LATE SEPTEMBER. YESTERDAY (12/24/2014) I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AND THIS HAPPENED AGAIN -- THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE I WAS ALREADY STOPPED WHILE WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO CHANGE FROM RED TO GREEN. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT OR SIGNAL. IT WAS REMNISCENT OF WHEN I DROVE A STANDARD TRANSMISSION VEHICLE AND INAPPROPRIATELY TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE CLUTCH. I WAS ABLE TO RE-START AND ENGINE RAN FINE. I AM LEERY OF DRIVING THE CAR AGAIN, HOWEVER, FOR FEAR THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I PLAN TO TAKE TO MY MECHANIC ASAP. READING THE DESCRIPTIONS OTHERS HAVE HAD WITH THIS ISSUE ARE VERY SIMILAR TO MINE. I HAVE KEPT UP WITH MAINTENANCE AND CARE OF THE VEHICLE AND IT HAS LESS THAN 25K MILES ON IT. *TR

FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO MY 2009 JETTA TDI (DIESEL) HAS HAD THE SAME RECURRING PROBLEM: MY GLOW PLUG LIGHT WILL COME ON AND I LOSE NORMAL DRIVING CAPABILITIES. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO LEAVE THE CAR OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME TO REGAIN STANDARD DRIVING CAPABILITIES. IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 2 WEEKS SINCE THAT HAS HAPPENED. 2 DAYS AGO, MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY PULLED CODES P0087 AND P0088 (FUEL PRESSURE TOO HIGH AND FUEL PRESSURE TOO LOW AT THE SAME TIME). THEY WANT ME TO REPLACE THE FUEL RAIL, WHICH WILL BE AN ESTIMATED $1000 IN TOTAL PARTS/LABOR. I CALLED ANOTHER DEALER IN HOPES OF GETTING A BETTER PRICE AND THEY ARE PUT OFF BY THE FIRST DEALER'S RECOMMENDATIONS. I WAS TOLD THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF METAL IN MY FUEL SYSTEM BUT EVEN SO, OTHER DEALER THINKS THIS WILL BE MORE SERIOUS THAN JUST REPLACING THE RAIL. AFTER RESEARCHING I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THAT I AM EXPERIENCING THE BEGINNING OF HPFP FAILURE. I FEEL LIKE I AM DRIVING A TICKING TIME BOMB AND I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO! DRIVING ON A BUSY 4 LANE ROAD MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED JUST FLASHED A FEW LIGHTS ON THE PANEL FOR FEW SECONDS. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. COULD NOT BE MOVED LUCKY THAT THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE TOWED TO VW DEALER, BASIL VW AT LOCKPORT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP EXPLODED. CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE REQUIRING NUMEROUS COMPONENTS, WITH A TOTAL COST OF ABOUT $7,000.00 THE CAR WAS SERVICE BY A VW DEALER OR BY A REPAIR SHOP OWNED BY AAA OF WNY LOCATED AT CLARENCE NY. THIS CAME ON WITH OUT A WARNING, WAS NOT INFORMED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. HAD OWNED DIESEL CARS SINCE 1977 AND DID NOT FACE ANY SUCH PROBLEM OR HEAR OF SUCH A PROBLEM. *TR
TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILED RESULTING IN ENGINE FAILURE. *TR
AFTER IDLING FOR APPROX 5 MINUTES ON A HOT AFTERNOON (95F), I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY FELT A SPUTTERING FROM THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THEN THE EPC LIGHT; THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE FOR A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE WAS STILL SPUTTERING HOWEVER WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME APPROX 10 MILES ON A CITY STREET. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH. AFTER TAKING TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY ADVISED THAT AN ENGINE COIL HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN 5 MONTHS LATER WITH THE SAME CONCLUSION FROM THE MECHANIC. *TR
THE WATER PUMP FAILED AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. THE IMPELLER CAME OFF OF THE SHAFT INSIDE OF THE PUMP BECAUSE OF A POOR DESIGN(PLASTIC). THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. WENT AHEAD AND HAD THE TIMING BELT DONE ALSO. COST OF REPAIR WAS $1131.87. *TR

I HAVE GEICO MECHANICAL BREAK DOWN INSURANCE. THE ADJUSTER ONLY APPROVED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE COOLING FANS. ON THE WAY HOME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I HEARD A POP SOUND FROM THE ENGINE, AND LOST ALL OF THE CARS POWER. THIS LOSS OF POWER HAPPENED WHILE TRAVELING IN TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 30 MPH. ON WEDNESDAY 5/22/13 I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 VW JETTA TDI AT ABOUT 45MPH WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, AND ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP CAME UP ON MY DISPLAY. THE CAR LOST POWER AND WASN'T RUNNING RIGHT. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED THE CAR AND CALLED MY LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THE CAR HAD VERY LOW POWER WHILE DRIVING TO THE DEALERSHIP AND EVENTUALLY DIED. I THEN TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER 2 DAYS GOT THE DREADED CALL THAT THE HPFP(HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP) HAD FAILED AND SENT METAL SHRAPNEL THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM . VW IS TELLING ME THIS IS GOING TO COST ME $7,000 TO FIX WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD SINCE VW IS VERY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS COVERED THE COSTS FOR OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED. I DON'T THINK IT IS RIGHT THAT A 4 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 80K MILES ON IT SHOULD HAVE A REPAIR COST THIS HIGH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE EXHAUST FLAP DOOR WAS LUBRICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

NOW ON THE NEW EXHAUST FLAPPER THEY GAVE ME A NEW PART FREE,BUT IT COST ME $529.63 FOR NEW SENSORS ALONG WITH LABOR FOR THE INSTALL. PER THE AUTO SHOP THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF CHANGES IN THIS PART . MY 2009 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI HAS EXPERIENCED A DISTURBING NO-START CONDITION SEVERAL TIMES. CRANKING THE ENGINE DID NOT RESULT IN A START. ONLY AFTER REPEATED CRANKING (5-10 TIMES) DID THE CAR ACTUALLY START. FIRST IT WOULD NOT START SEVERAL TIMES, THEN START AND DIE IMMEDIATELY, AND FINALLY START, RUN VERY ROUGH,AND THEN SMOOTH OUT ITS IDLE. THIS ENTIRE SEQUENCE (WHICH HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 4 TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH, TO VARYING DEGREES) OCCURRED IN THE DECEMBER-JANUARY TIME FRAME, WITH THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRING WHEN TEMPS WERE RIGHT AROUND FREEZING, WITH PRECIPITATION (RAIN-SNOW MIX) AND HIGH HUMIDITY. AT LEAST 2 TIMES, THE VEHICLE SIMPLY DIED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING, WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE THROTTLE AND REVS DROPPED DOWN TO IDLE. THE LAST SYMPTOM TO REPORT IS A P0638 OBDII CODE (THROTTLE BODY OUT OF RANGE). THIS CODE, HOWEVER, COULD BE A FALSE INDICATION THAT IS RELATED TO THE NUMBER OF FAILED ENGINE START ATTEMPTS? I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I HAVE A STRONG INDICATION TO SUSPECT, AFTER RESEARCHING OTHERS' EXPERIENCES ON SEVERAL ONLINE FORUMS, THAT THIS MAY BE RELATED TO THE ACCUMULATION OF WATER AND/OR ICE IN THE INTERCOOLER, WHICH THEN EITHER BLOCKS THE AIRFLOW OR BECOMES INGESTED INTO THE INTAKE. THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE MAJOR ENGINE DAMAGE AND IS CAUSED.BY THE EXHAUST GASES AND WATER VAPOR FREEZING IN THE INTERCOOLER. EVERY VW WITH THIS STYLE INTERCOOLER SETUP HAS POTENTIAL FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED DO TO ITS SEVERITY. ALSO, THERE IS A TSB ALREADY WRITTEN FOR THE "FIX". BUT VW HAS NOT INFORMED ANYONE, NOR WILL TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR ANYONE BEYOND THE 36000 MILE WARRANTY. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. *TR

OWNER MANUAL SAID TO BRING INTO SHOP SOON. DEALERSHIP FOUND METAL SHAVINGS THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM THAT WAS CAUSED BY A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. COST FOR REPAIR WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND $6000, BUT VW WARRANTY COVERED THIS. IF THIS STALL HAD HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. AS IT WAS I HAD A POLICE CAR PUSH ME OUT OF AN INTERSECTION DURING RUSH HOUR TO A SAFE SPOT.

CAR DID NOT RESTART HAD PUSH TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TOW HOME. TOWED TO DEALER FIRST OF WEEK. FOUND TO BE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE OF THE DIESEL ENGINE. THIS IS THE SECOND ONE TO GO BAD FIRST ONE AT 135380 MILES AND NOW AT 228605 MILES ONLY 93225 MILES ON REPAIR JOB. VW REPAIRED THE FIRST ONE, REPLACED ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM AT NO CHARGE, DO TO FAULTY HPFP. EVEN THOUGH THIS PUMP HAS LESS MILES THEY WILL NOT HELP WITH REPAIR COST. BOTH TIMES CAR DIED AT A MAJOR INTERSECTION AND HAD TO BE PUSHED TO SIDE OF ROAD. *TR

THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS OF ANY PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE ENGINE STOPPING. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON, NO SPUTTERING, NO LOSS OF POWER ETC. AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS TO RESTART WITH NO SUCCESS, IT WAS TOWED INTO MARION FLORIDA. THEY COULD NOT TELL WHAT WAS WRONG AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE CLOSEST DEALER IN VALOUSA GA. 2009 JETTA VOLKSWAGEN TDI, WITH ONLY 50500 MILES ON IT. THE CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION AT 35MPH. THIS WAS DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. IN THE CAR WAS ME 32, MY WIFE 36, MY DAUGHTER OF 8 YEARS OLD AND SON OF 2 YEARS OLD. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EVENT. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST VW DEALERSHIP. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO START WHILE SITTING ON THE PHONE WIHT OUR INSURANCE COMPANY, THE CAR STARTED ONCE AND DIED AFTER SITTING IDLE FOR THREE MINUTES. WE THEN ATTEMPTED TO START IT ONE LAST TIME AND DROVE 25 MPH TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION. WE ALL GOT OUT OF THE CAR, LOCKED IT UP THINKING IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH AN ANTITHEFT FEATURE. WE GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND WERE ABLE TO DRIVE 41 MILES HOME AT HIWAY SPEEDS. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE DROVE 5 MILES INTO TOWN AND IT DIED AGAIN GOING 25 MPH. RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, THIS IS A GROWING PROBLEM WITH THE JETTA. THIS IS PROVEN WITH FROTHY MOISTURE ON THE OIL FILL CAP AFTER EACH INCIDENT. SUSPECTED ISSUE IS MOISTURE FROM EGR SYSTEM GOES INTO INTAKE AIR, AND IS FREEZING IN THE INTER COOLER IN FREEZING WEATHER. WHEN WEATHER WARMS UP WHILE THE CAR IS OFF, THE WATER WILL POOL IN THE INTER COOLER PIPING. I PURCHASED A OBDII CODE READER AND DISCOVERED CODE P0191 AND P0087, BOTH RELATING TO THE FUEL SYSTEM. P0191 INDICATED THE FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR A CIRCUIT RANGE / PERFORMANCE. THE P0087 INDICATED THE FUEL RAIL / SYSTEM PRESSURE TOO LOW. WHILE RESEARCHING THESE CODES ON THE INTERNET I DISCOVERED A HUGE AMOUNT OF INFORMATION RELATING TO THIS ISSUE. ELECTRONIC DASHBOARD ALSO SHOWED ALL OTHER SYSTEMS FUNCTIONING REGARDING BATTERY, TEMPERATURE SENSOR, ETC. WHEN I RETURNED ABOUT 45 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR STARTED BUT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS RUNNING ON ONLY ONE OR TWO CYLINDERS AND THEN DIED. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL WHEN HE ARRIVED. I HAD HEARD ON THE RADIO ON CAR TALK THAT TDI WERE SHUTTING DOWN ON THE HIGHWAYS AND THAT IT WAS BEING LOOKED INTO BY THE NHTSA. I ALSO READ DOZENS OF OTHER STORIES ONLINE WITH RELATED ISSUES WHICH IN THE END COST THEM A FEW THOUSAND TO TEN THOUSAND TO FIX ON RELATIVELY NEW CAR. I HAVE READ IT IS DUE TO HPFP NEEDING TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS DAMAGED WHEN FUELED UP WITH INCORRECT FUEL. BASICALLY VW IS SAYING THAT METAL PARTICULATES ARE IN THE FUEL FILTERS AND SYSTEM DUE TO PUTTING GAS INSTEAD OF DIESEL. THEY ARE TELLING THIS SUPPOSED CATCH ALL TO EVERYONE WITH THIS ISSUE. WITHIN ONE BLOCK THE CAR LOST POWER, THE GLOW PLUG INDICATOR CAME BACK ON (FLASHING) AS DID THE ENGINE WARNING SYMBOL. MY CAR COULD NOW ONLY CLUNK FORWARD AT ABOUT 5 MPH. I MADE IT OVER TO THE CURBSIDE, GRABBED MY MANUAL, AND WALKED HOME. I CALLED THE VW DEALER AND HE SAID THAT HE'D SEEN A COUPLE OF CASES LIKE THIS AND THAT THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO BE TOWED IN." I HAD IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP (THIS WAS A SATURDAY). ON MONDAY I HEARD THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) AND THAT THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. LUCKILY, I WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. IT'S A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. MORE LUCKILY, THIS POWER FAILURE DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY, WHICH IS WHERE I WAS HEADING. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION DASHBOARD LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, TRAVELING ABOUT 20 MPH, WITH SLIGHTLY LESS THAN 1/2 TANK FUEL FROM THE SAME FILLING. THE LEFT TURN WHERE THE MALFUNCTION OCCURRED WAS THE LAST 1/2 MILE OF MY ~15 MILE COMMUTE TO WORK. IMMEDIATELY AFTER OBSERVING THE MALFUNCTION LIGHT, I COULD HEAR A METAL-ON-METAL GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE ENGINE DID NOT STOP RUNNING THOUGH THE GRINDING NOISE PERSISTED FOR THE REMAINING 1/2 MILE OF MY COMMUTE. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF IN THE PARKING LOT, I CONTACTED MY VW DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF THE PROBLEM. THEY RECOMMENDED I TRY DRIVING THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, WHICH IS ABOUT 15.5 MILES FROM MY WORKPLACE. I STAYED AT WORK FOR THE NEXT 3 HOURS, AND AROUND MIDDAY SET OFF TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE VW DEALER. THE CAR STARTED, BUT THE GRINDING NOISE PERSISTED AND THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITHIN 1 MINUTE OF STARTING. AT THE SAME INTERSECTION WHERE THE PROBLEM HAD ORIGINALLY STARTED, 1/2 MILE FROM WORK, I WAS FORCED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. WHILE STOPPED, THE ENGINE OPERATION BECAME VERY ROUGH AND THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND LIGHTLY ACCELERATE WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, BUT THE CAR STALLED AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS, THOUGH I HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO GET OUT AND PUSH THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE VW DEALER. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THEY FOUND SHARDS OF METAL THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY IN THE FUEL PUMP. THEY QUOTED ME VW'S STATEMENT ABOUT GASOLINE CONTAMINATION OF DIESEL FUEL, AND IMPLIED THAT I MAY HAVE INCORRECTLY FUELED THE CAR. HOWEVER, THEY TOOK A FUEL SAMPLE FROM MY TANK AND REPORTED THAT IT WAS NORMAL DIESEL WITH NO SIGNS OF CONTAMINATION. THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. THE CAR HAS RUN NORMALLY SINCE REPAIRING.

FORTUNE PROVIDED A REST AREA AS THE CAR GOT TO ABOUT 45 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. AFTER PARKING, CAR STALLED WHILE IDLING. STARTING ENGINE WOULD ROUGHLY IDLE AT 1/2 OF THE IDLE RPM FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS BEFORE STALLING. AFTER 4 TRIES, I LET THE CAR SIT FOR 10 MINUTES AND IT RESTARTED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE CAR HAD DIESEL PURCHASED IN UPSTATE NY IN THE WINTER, PRESUMABLY A WINTER BLEND. THE INCIDENT HAPPENED IN VA IN 30+ DEGREE TEMPERATURES, SO PRESUMABLY GELLING OF THE FUEL WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. ADDITIONALLY, ON 12/17/2010, CAR STARTED BUT WOULD NOT REV ABOVE 1500 RPM EVEN WHILE OUT OF GEAR. WOULD NOT GO MORE THAN 10 MPH. I ASSUME IT IS THE FUEL SYSTEM BUT THE VW DEALER CLAIMS EVERYTHING IS FINE WITH THE CAR.

FROM THE FIRST WEEK I OWNED THIS BRAND NEW JETTA TDI SPORTSWAGON (WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION) IT WOULD PERIODICALLY "FAULTER" OR MOMENTARILY LOSE POWER AT ABOUT 38 MPH. I DRIVE QUITE A BIT AND THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR RANDOMLY, PERHAPS EVERY OTHER DAY. I'VE YET TO BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BY RECREATING THE DRIVING CONDITIONS, BUT IT ALWAYS HAPPENS AT THE SAME SPEED, RIGHT AFTER UPSHIFTING. I NOTIFIED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR IT'S FIRST SERVICE APPOINTMENT. MY 2009 JETTA SPORTSWAGON TDI HAS STALLED SEVERAL OCCASIONS ROUNDING CORNERS AS I DOWNSHIFT FROM A HIGHER GEAR TO A LOWER GEAR. I GENERALLY RUN THE VEHICLE AROUND 1700-1800 RPM AND AS I MAKE THE TURN AROUND THE CORNER TO SLOW DOWN I AM IN THE PROCESS OF DOWNSHIFTING AND THE CAR STALLS OUT WHILE THE CLUTCH IS ENGAGED. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE ACCIDENTALLY SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR AND STALLED THE ENGINE, BUT SINCE IT HAS REPEATEDLY HAPPENED AND SINCE I HAVE OWNED A STANDARD TRANSMISSION VEHICLE SINCE 1986, AND HAVE BEEN DRIVING STANDARD VEHICLES SINCE 1980 I HAVE TO QUESTION THAT IT IS SOMETHING ELSE BESIDES MY ABILITY TO DRIVE. *TR

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI DIESEL CAR WITH A 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND 20,000 MILES. I HAVE NOTICE THAT THE CAR IS EXTREMELY EASY TO STALL WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE IN FIRST AND SECOND GEARS. IT SEEMS THE INJECTION TIMING MAY BE TOO FAR ADVANCED. MY 2009 JETTA TDI SPORTWAGON WITH 12,000 MILES WOULD NOT START ONE DAY. I ATTEMPTED TO JUMP START AND POP START THE CAR, BOTH FAILED TO START THE ENGINE. IT GOT TOWED TO NEAREST VW DEALER. THEY STATED THAT THE STARTER FAILED, SO THEY REPLACED IT. AFTER REPLACING THE STARTER, THE CAR WAS STILL NOT FIXED AND THEY DISCOVERED CONDENSATION IN THE INTAKE SYSTEM. THEY STATED THAT VW WAS NOT SURE WHAT WAS CAUSING THE CONDENSATION, SEEING AS I DRIVE 100 MILES PER DAY, BUT IT WAS NOW RUNNING TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS, SO THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED " SO WE ARE CALLING IT FIXED". ANOTHER TDI WAS ALSO IN THE SHOP FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT VW CAN NOT GUARANTEE OR PROVIDE ANYTHING TO ME IN WRITING STATING THAT WHEN MY FACTORY WARRANTY RUNS OUT, AND THIS PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN, THAT IT WILL BE COVERED. EVER SINCE MY 2009 VW TDI DIESEL AUTO WAS NEW, I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH HESISTATION IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THAT IS AN EMERGENCY. IF I SUDDENLY STOP, SUCH AS THE END OF THE EXIT RAMP ON THE INTERSTATE, AND SIMULTANEOUSLY TURN THE WHEELS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, THEN IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATION, DISASTER. THE CAR WILL MOVE INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC (FOR ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS), THEN HESITATE, LEAVING ME STUCK ON THE PATH OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC! IN ABOUT 3 TO 4 MORE SECONDS, IT WILL IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATE, SPINNING THE WHEELS AND MOVE! THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, NEARLY PLACING ME IN FATAL ACCIDENTS! THE DEALER WILL NOT RESPOND, OR EVEN CONTACT THE VW MAIN FACTORY/ENGINEERING REGARDING SOFTWARE UPDATES, ETC. THE ENGINE JUST MOMENTARILY 'GOES TO IDLE' BEFORE KICKING IN. IT IS AS IF THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED (IN THIS CAR, IF YOU TOUCH THE BRAKES, THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY DROPS TO ABOUT 600 RPM THRU SOFTWARE CONTROL). IT SNOWED 22" ON THE 19TH AND THEN THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE DAYS IT WOULD THAW, FREEZE, RAIN ETC. IT RAINED APPROXIMATELY 3" DURING THAT TIME. GOT BACK DEC. 29TH AT NIGHT. THE ENGINE TRIED TO CRANK ONCE AND THEN DIDN'T DO MUCH AFTERWARD. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER (VW OF LANGHORNE) AND THEY FOUND WATER IN THE CYLINDERS BY REMOVING THE GLOW PLUGS AND MANUALLY CRANKING THE ENGINE. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS MESSING WITH THE DEALER THEY FINALLY DRIED OUT THE ENGINE AND FOUND WATER IN THE INTERCOOLER LINES. RAN FINE UNTIL 2/1/10. DEALER HAD ME PAY FOR THEIR TIME BECAUSE "THE ONLY WAY THIS COULD HAPPEN IS IF I DROVE THROUGH A PUDDLE OR IF IT WAS IN A FLOOD". THEY ARE WRONG. USUALLY 100% REPRODUCIBLE IN WARM CLIMATE USUALLY HAPPENS WITHIN THE FIRST FEW MINUTES OF STARTING ENGINE WHILE TRAVELING AT 30MPH AT 2K RPMS WHILE HOLDING A STEADY SPEED. CAR WILL SUDDENLY JERK AND LOSE POWER ONE TIME THEN THE REMAINING TIME WILL BE WITHOUT ISSUE. ON AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS WHILE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR HAS INTERMITTENTLY LOST ALL POWER FOR A FEW SECONDS ALMOST RESULTING IN CERTAIN PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENTS. THIS WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT AFTER STARTING THE CAR I TOOK A PHONE CALL BEFORE ENTERING TRAFFIC. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A TEMPERATURE/TIME RELATED PROBLEM AS THE TIME I WAS ON THE PHONE WOULD ABOUT EQUAL THE TIME THAT WHEN I NORMALLY WOULD HAVE LEFT THE LOT THE CAR WOULD HAVE HAD THE HICCUP/STUTTER. WE WERE TRAVELING IN BRANSON, MO. FROM OUR HOME IN EAST TEXAS WHEN THERE WAS WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A SINGLE MUFFLED POP FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE GLOW PLUG LAMP STARTED BLINKING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I THINK IT WAS BLINKING ALSO. AT THE TIME I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 30 MPH. AND I HAD JUST STARTED UP A STEEP GRADE. ALSO, ABOUT THE TIME THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, THE MFD DISPLAYED THE "MAJOR ENGINE MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE. THE ENGINE LOST POWER BUT DID NOT STOP AND I WAS ABLE TO GO ABOUT 300 YARDS TO A SAFE PLACE WHERE I COULD PULL OFF THE STREET OUT OF TRAFFIC AND PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER IN SPRINGFIELD, MO. (SPRINGFIELD VOLKSWAGEN) FAULT CODE THROWN WAS P0299. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A COUPLING ON A LINE GOING INTO THE TURBOCHARGER HAD NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY TIGHTENED DURING ASSEMBLY OF THE ENGINE AND THE HOSE HAD COME LOOSE DISABLING THE TURBOCHARGER AND THE ENGINE. *TR
I OWN A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI SPORTWAGEN. IT HAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I BELIEVE THAT THIS CAR HAS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW, WHICH CREATES A VERY UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. ON A DAILY BASIS, I EXPERIENCE A SITUATION IN WHICH I AM WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT TO TURN LEFT, AND WHEN I DEPRESS THE PEDAL TO ACCELERATE THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, THE CAR MOVES A FEW FEET (INTO TRAFFIC) AND THEN STOPS ALTOGETHER. AFTER PRESSING THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR FOR 2-3 SECONDS, IT RELUCTANTLY STARTS MOVING AGAIN, AND I OBSERVE A HUGE CLOUD OF WHITE VAPOR POURING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE AS THE CAR TAKES OFF AGAIN. MY FEAR IS THAT I, OR SOMEONE ELSE, WILL BE UNABLE TO CLEAR AN INTERSECTION IN A DANGEROUS (OR OTHERWISE NORMAL) SITUATION AND WILL BE INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON OR T-BONE ACCIDENT THAT WILL CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH. I HAD MY 09 TDI TOWED INTO A V.W. DEALER TODAY FOR A MAJOR OIL LEAK. THE DETAILS ARE AS FOLLOWS: I PARKED MY TDI IN MY DRIVEWAY THIS MORNING AFTER A LOCAL DRIVE. NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WERE OBSERVED. IN THE AFTERNOON I WENT FOR ANOTHER DRIVE. I BARELY GOT OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THE CARS OIL LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, AND THE MFD SAID STOP THE VEHICLE-LOW OIL. I PULLED BACK IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOTICED SEVERAL LITERS OF OIL ON THE GROUND UNDER MY CAR. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER BY A FLATBED TOW TRUCK. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME INTO THE SHOP AND SHOWED ME THAT THE OIL FILTERS HOUSING CAP HAD BEEN SCREWED LOOSE, AND PLACED ON-TOP OF THE HOUSING UPSIDE DOWN. THE CAP HAD A SMALL PIECE MISSING JUST BEFORE THE THREADS BEGIN. SINCE THE CAR HAD 1 1/2 QUARTS OF OIL STILL IN THE OIL PAN THE SERVICE MANAGER DID NOT FEEL THAT ANY ENGINE DAMAGE OCCURRED. I EXPLAINED TO THE MANAGER THAT I HAD BEEN HOME ALL DAY, THAT MY CAR WAS LOCKED, ALARMED, AND PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. THE MANAGER INSISTED THAT SOMEONE DID THIS DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. HE COULD NOT EXPLAIN HOW SOMEONE WAS ABLE TO GET IN THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE KEY, AND WITHOUT CAUSING ANY DAMAGE OR LEAVING ANY TOOL MARKS, OR SETTING OFF THE CAR ALARM. I HAD MY VEHICLES 10K SERVICE DONE AT THIS DEALERSHIP 800 MILES AGO. DURING THAT SERVICE THE WRONG OIL WAS USED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY OVERFILLED WITH OIL. THESE PROBLEMS WERE CAUGHT BY MYSELF, AND CORRECTED BEFORE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; THE TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED A PULLING SENSATION AND BEGAN HESITATING INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURES PROGRESSED BETWEEN 0 TO 55 MPH AND THE ENGINE SURGED WHILE MAINTAINING SPEED. AN AUTHORIZED TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A MANUFACTURERS DESIGN WITHOUT A REMEDY. THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM CODE WAS RESET TO THE MANUFACTURER'S SERVICE CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO FURTHER DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,500.
THE VEHICLE HAS A 1 TO 2 SECOND LAG WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STANDING START OR WHEN I STEP HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IT ACTS LIKE IT HAS TO THINK ABOUT IT FOR A WHILE BEFORE THE MOTOR STARTS TO REV UP AND THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES. THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL NEAR-ACCIDENTS WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, AND AT STOP SIGNS WHEN OTHER DRIVERS DECIDED I'D WAITED TOO LONG AND STARTED INTO THE INTERSECTION AT THE SAME TIME MY CAR FINALLY DECIDED TO GET AROUND TO GOING. THIS IS A TDI WITH THE DSG TRANSMISSION. I HAD THE DEALER RUN A FULL DIAGNOSTIC AND THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. I SEE OTHERS REPORTING THE SAME BEHAVIOR HERE AND ELSEWHERE. I SUSPECT FAULTY PROGRAMMING IN EITHER THE ENGINE OR THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE, THOUGH IT MAY BE JUST THE INHERENT BEHAVIOR OF THE SYSTEM. I'LL PUT TODAY'S DATE ON THE "APPROXIMATE INCIDENT DATE" ALTHOUGH IT'S BEEN THIS WAY SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2008. *TR
I OWN A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN TDI. IT NOW HAS JUST OVER 11000 MILES. AFTER ONLY A COUPLE THOUSAND MILES ON THE VEHICLE, I STARTED NOTICING THAT THE ENGINE HESITATES AND IN SOME CASES PRODUCES SEVERE BUCKING FOR MAYBE 2-3 SECONDS. DURING THESE INCIDENTS, THE VEHICLE HAS LESS POWER AND THIS CAN BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM IF ONE IS TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND SUDDENLY HAS LESS POWER THAN ANTICIPATED TO ACCELERATE. THE PROBLEM UNFORTUNATELY CAN'T BE REPLICATED ON DEMAND. IT IS MORE OFF A SPORADIC OCCURRENCE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TOP THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES AND EACH TIME THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN FIND WRONG WITH THE CAR. THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES THAT SHOW UP WHEN THEY USE THEIR DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE ONLY THING THAT WAS DONE TO TRY TO SOLVE THE ISSUE WAS DURING THE MOST RECENT VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FUEL WAS SAMPLED AND LEFT OVERNIGHT IN A FREEZER TO CHECK FOR GELLING, I DON'T THINK IT WAS SENT TO A LAB FOR ANALYSIS. THE FUEL FILTER WAS ALSO CHANGED. THESE ACTIONS HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT IS FOR A 2009 V.W. TDI (DIESEL ENGINE). WHEN I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN THE ENGINE IS NOT YET WARMED UP, AND SHORTLY AFTER THE VEHICLE IS STARTED A HESITATION OCCURS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN IT HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC. THIS WAS REPORTED TO PLATINUM VOLKSWAGEN ON 1/6/09 DURING A VEHICLE COURTESY CHECK. THE CAR DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. THIS HESITATION HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES PER WEEK. *TR
I BOUGHT MY BRAND NEW 2009 JETTA TDI ON 5/28/2009 AND 2 DAYS LATER AFTER I HAD ONLY DRIVEN THE CAR FOR 200 MILES, THE AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING WHEN THE CAR WAS SITTING STILL. I OPENED THE HOOD AFTER I GOT TO MY DESTINATION TO REALIZE THAT THE COOLING FANS WERE NOT WORKING AT ALL. THEY WOULD NOT EVEN COME ON TO COOL THE ENGINE. THIS OCCURRED ON A SATURDAY, AND THE VW DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT WAS CLOSING IN AN HOUR. THEIR MASTER TECH AGREED TO STAY UNTIL I GOT THERE AND HE RAN SOME TESTS ON IT, AND TOLD ME HE SIMULATED A SEVERE ENGINE OVERHEAT AND THE FANS STILL DID NOT COME ON. HE SAID THE CAR COULD NOT BE DRIVEN AND IT WOULD HAVE TO STAY AT THE DEALER. HE SAID THE FAN RELAY WAS FAULTY AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THEN MONDAY MORNING THE SERVICE MANAGER WHOM DID NOT BELIEVE THE MASTER TECH DECIDED TO DRIVE MY CAR WITH A NON-FUNCTIONING COOLING SYSTEM TO SEE IF HE COULD REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HE CALLED ME TO DISCUSS THE FACT THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING WORKED WHILE HE WAS DRIVING TO WHICH I SAID IT WILL WHEN YOU DRIVE IT, HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT WORK WHEN YOUR COME TO A STOP BECAUSE THE FANS DO NOT TURN ON. HE FINALLY DECIDED AFTER A DAY OF WASTED TESTS TO ORDER THE PART. I FINALLY GOT MY CAR BACK TODAY AFTER THEY HAD IT FOR 5 DAYS OF THE FIRST WEEK I OWNED IT. I AM SO GLAD I PURCHASED THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY, BECAUSE THAT SORT OF PROBLEM AFTER 2 DAYS OF OWNERSHIP DOES NOT SAY MUCH FOR VW. EVERYTHING WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT I WAS STILL WITHOUT MY CAR FOR JUST SHY OF A WEEK. DIAGNOSED PART= COOLING FAN MODULE FAILURE. *TR
