NHTSA Campaign: 17V425000
Component: STRUCTURE:BODY:HOOD:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS
Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner vehicles equipped with accessory hood scoops installed by SET or SET dealers. The adhesive attaching the hood scoop may weaken, allowing the hood scoop to detach from the vehicle.
Risk: If the hood scoop detaches, it may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: SET will notify owners, and dealers will mechanically fasten the scoop to the hood, free of charge. The recall began on September 1, 2017. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-954-429-2000. SET's number for this recall is SET17B.
NHTSA Campaign: 14V828000
Component: EQUIPMENT
Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Toyota 4Runner, Tacoma, FJ Cruiser, Land Cruiser, RAV4, Scion FRS, and XB vehicles. The affected vehicles may have accessories installed by SET, such as running boards or other items, that were incorrectly installed. The accessory attaching fasteners were not tightened with the proper torque, possibly causing the accessory to detach from the vehicle.
Risk: Accessories that detach from a vehicle may result in a vehicle crash and/or personal injury.
Fix: SET will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and tighten the affected bolts, free of charge. The recall began February 23, 2015. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. SET's number for this recall is SET-14B.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2008-2014 FJ Cruiser and Tacoma vehicles equipped with accessory wheels and tires installed by Toyota or dealers prior to the vehicle's first sale. The affected vehicles may list incorrect spare tire size and/or cold tire inflation information on the tire placard. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims for Passenger Cars."
Risk: If the spare tire is inflated to the incorrect pressure provided on the placard, tire failure may occur while it is being driven on, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: For the involved vehicles, overlay stickers to correct the tire placard will either be mailed to owners or provided to dealers for placement over the incorrect information on the placard. The recall is expected to begin in September 2014. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
NHTSA Campaign: 13V557000
Component: ENGINE
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Tacoma vehicles manufactured July 1, 2013, through October 11, 2013. The engines of the affected vehicles contain valve springs that may break over time.
Risk: If the valve springs break, the engine could fail and stall while the vehicle is being driven, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the valve springs, free of charge. The recall began on November 27, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Your truck's frame has developed significant rust and corrosion, likely from years of exposure to road salt in snowy climates. A recall was issued for this exact problem, but your dealership refused to service it because your truck is now registered in a warmer state. You're concerned the rusty frame may be unsafe to drive. Addressing this will likely require frame inspection and rust treatment or replacement, which may need to be handled through Toyota corporate or a specialist shop willing to perform the recall work.

Your truck's white paint is peeling and beginning to show rust underneath. The dealership confirmed your Tacoma has a delaminating paint problem, and while they've seen this issue on other Tacomas, your specific model year isn't covered under a current recall. A collision center estimates your entire truck will eventually need to be repainted to prevent further rust damage. Toyota North America declined to assist, stating this isn't covered under their special service campaign.

Your 2014 Tacoma's paint is chipping off in large sections, especially on the passenger side doors near the windows. You believe this is the same defect that triggered a recall for 2016-2022 model years and are requesting your vehicle be included in that recall. Fixing this would likely involve repainting the affected areas or replacing the door panels.

Your sun visors on both the driver's and passenger's sides started making popping sounds and stopped working properly around 60,000 miles. Even after a repair shop replaced both visors, the problem happened again. The manufacturer was contacted but couldn't provide further assistance.

Your truck's body panels are showing rust. This is a cosmetic issue but can worsen over time if left untreated. Addressing rust early helps prevent it from spreading deeper into the metal and affecting the vehicle's appearance and long-term durability.

Steering →2 issues
Your truck's wheels lock up when turning corners, making it feel like you're on ice and losing control of the vehicle. This only happens during curves and creates a serious safety risk if oncoming traffic is present. The issue may involve the steering or suspension system and will likely require a full inspection and possible repair of steering components or wheel bearings.

Your horn honks unexpectedly when you turn the steering wheel left or right, but won't honk when the wheel is straight. This is caused by a faulty spiral cable (a coil of wires) in your steering wheel that needs to be replaced. Your dealer can replace this part to fix the issue.

Power Train →2 issues
You're hearing a groaning sound coming from your front differential (the component that helps distribute power to your front wheels) while driving between 15-55 MPH. Toyota has acknowledged this issue with a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB #0026-15), but they're only covering it under warranty rather than issuing a recall. The concern is that this noise indicates wear that could cause additional damage to the differential over time. Fixing this will likely involve inspecting and servicing the front differential, possibly replacing worn gears or bearings.

Your Tacoma's air switching valve has needed replacement twice in two years, and the vehicle keeps entering limp mode, which reduces performance and power. The dealer suggests you need to drive more than 5,000 miles annually to prevent this issue, but this seems like an unusual requirement for an emissions component. Fixing this will likely involve replacing the air switching valve again and possibly diagnosing why it's failing prematurely.

Unknown Or Other,engine →2 issues
Your truck's secondary air pump has failed multiple times, and now it's throwing a P2443 code (valve stuck closed) just six months after the last replacement. This appears to be a recurring issue affecting multiple Toyota models since 2012. The dealership will likely need to diagnose why the replacement part is failing again and may need to replace the secondary air pump assembly or related components.

Your 2014 Tacoma is making a rattling noise from underneath the truck that's getting worse, and you suspect it's related to the exhaust system or catalytic converter. You've spent considerable time trying to identify the source, and others with the same model year and engine have reported similar issues on Tacoma forums. Diagnosing and repairing the exhaust system or catalytic converter may be needed to eliminate the noise and address any potential emissions or engine performance concerns.

Tires →2 issues
Your passenger's rear tire exploded while driving at 65 MPH due to dry rot and age. An independent mechanic confirmed the tire had deteriorated significantly, even though it was a replacement tire. The tire failure occurred at approximately 160,000 miles. You'll likely need to replace the affected tire and inspect the others for similar age-related damage.

All four of your Goodyear Assurance All Season tires (215/70/R15) are shaking abnormally while driving. A dealer inspection found bubbles and indentations on each tire caused by cupping, along with improper balancing and rotation, and an independent mechanic confirmed the tires aren't round. The tires developed these defects around 6,000 miles of use. You'll likely need to replace all four tires and have them properly balanced and rotated.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your brake master cylinder is leaking brake fluid into your cabin, leaving puddles on your floor mat. There were no warning lights to alert you to this problem. Fixing this will likely require replacing the master cylinder, which is a critical brake system component that controls your brakes.

Air Bags →1 issue
While driving at 52 mph, your Tacoma hit a pothole and both the driver and passenger side curtain airbags suddenly deployed for no apparent reason. The dealer inspected the vehicle but couldn't identify what caused the airbags to go off. Your insurance company declared the truck a total loss. The airbag system may need diagnostic testing or replacement of the airbag sensors and control module.

Engine →1 issue
Your engine stalled while driving at 45-50 mph around 133,000 miles. A mechanic diagnosed the problem as rod knock and valve train failure, which indicates serious internal engine damage. This type of failure typically requires engine replacement or a complete rebuild.

Seats →1 issue
Your heated seat system has stopped working because the power connector melted, likely due to improper wire connectors or undersized wiring in the heated seat control unit. Since the connector got hot enough to melt inside your vehicle cab, there's a potential fire hazard if this issue occurs in other vehicles. The fix will involve replacing the heated seat wiring harness and connectors with properly sized components.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Toyota notified you that your 2014 Tacoma needed a frame corrosion inspection due to a known issue in this model year. During the inspection, your frame was found to be severely corroded and qualified for replacement under the recall program. However, the dealership also identified that the fuel tank band (the metal strap holding your fuel tank in place) was so rusted it needs replacement at an additional cost of $421.58, which is not covered by the frame recall. The fuel tank band may need to be replaced along with or separately from the frame repair to ensure your fuel tank remains secure.

Steering,suspension,structure →1 issue
Your vehicle's front suspension, frame, and steering components have excessive rust and corrosion that's preventing a proper front-end alignment, even though your car is from Southern California where roads aren't salted. Your dealer identified the rust during a routine service and confirmed it's too severe to safely align, and a tire shop independently verified the excessive corrosion. The rust is preventing normal maintenance work and may require replacement of corroded suspension and steering parts rather than just an alignment.

Unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your radio turns back on by itself after you turn it off, defaulting to the first saved AM station even though you didn't select it. When this happens, the AM display shows as white instead of blue, and the radio may turn back on several more times before finally staying off. This issue has occurred 3 times this year. The fix may involve updating the radio's software, replacing the head unit, or checking the power connections to the entertainment system.
