Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 293)
Power Train →5 issues
Your clutch slave cylinder failed at 48,000 miles, making it difficult to shift gears while driving on the freeway and creating a safety hazard. You lost clutch pressure with no warning lights or messages beforehand. The repair will likely involve replacing the clutch slave cylinder.

Your clutch slave cylinder failed at 51,000 miles, causing your clutch to stick and not return to normal position. The cylinder ruptured inside the transmission housing and leaked fluid, which is particularly concerning because your brake and clutch systems share the same fluid reservoir—a leak could potentially affect your braking ability. The owner reports this is a known issue across 6-speed manual Corollas and can happen with little warning.

At 97,000 miles, your clutch slave cylinder failed, causing your clutch pedal to stick to the floor. Because the clutch and brakes share the same fluid reservoir, brake fluid leaked into the transmission and your brake pedal became increasingly hard to press. Your car had to be towed to a mechanic. This created a serious safety risk since you could have lost braking ability while driving.

Your transmission's slave cylinder is leaking fluid, which controls your ability to shift gears. This leak could cause your car to get stuck in gear while driving or prevent it from shifting into gear when parked. You should have the slave cylinder and transmission fluid inspected and likely replaced to restore proper shifting.

Visibility/wiper →3 issues
Your windshield wipers are activating on their own even when the stalk switch is in the OFF position, typically happening after the car has been driven for 20+ minutes or after sitting in heat. This intermittent activation can startle you while driving and create a dangerous distraction, especially at highway speeds or in traffic. The Toyota dealership hasn't been able to reproduce the issue during short test drives. Replacing the wiper switch stalk assembly (which likely has worn internal contacts from heat and vibration) should resolve the problem.

Your windshield wipers stop moving in the middle of a wipe cycle, leaving part of your windshield blocked. This is a hazard when driving in rain or snow since you lose visibility. The problem appears to affect multiple 2020 Corollas. Fixing this typically involves replacing the wiper motor or checking the electrical connections to the wiper system.

Your windshield wipers are turning on by themselves even when you've switched them to the off position. This happens randomly and without you touching the wiper controls, and it keeps occurring intermittently. The issue likely involves a faulty wiper motor relay or control module that needs to be inspected and replaced.

Your sunroof suddenly shattered with a loud explosion while you were driving, sending glass onto your windshield and into your car's interior without any warning signs beforehand. You pulled over safely and found glass scattered across the roof, windshield, and inside the vehicle. This unexpected failure posed a serious safety risk. The repair will likely involve complete sunroof replacement and inspection of the sunroof frame and seals.

Your dashboard displays an "Engine Maintenance Required" warning message that started appearing around 31,000 miles. The issue is a faulty coolant bypass valve, which your dealer quoted at $700 to replace. The warning message continues to pop up whenever you turn on the air conditioning, even though your car has reached 205,000 miles. Replacing the coolant bypass valve should resolve the dashboard warning.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your car's brake pedal slowly sinks toward the floor after you've been driving for a while and the car is warm, even though the brakes work normally when cold. This happens at red lights after 20-40 seconds of holding the pedal. You're concerned this could indicate a master brake cylinder problem that might suddenly fail. The brake system may need inspection and repair of the master cylinder or related hydraulic components.

Power Train,electrical System,service Brakes →1 issue
Starting in April 2025, your 2020 Toyota Corolla began repeatedly triggering multiple warning lights while driving — including brake system malfunction, stability control, pre-collision system, and check engine warnings. These warnings appear and disappear unpredictably, and they disable important safety features that affect braking, stability, and collision avoidance. The dealership and independent mechanics found two fault codes (P1578 and P265B) that keep reappearing even after being cleared, but seven months and over $7,100 in repair attempts have not fixed the underlying problem. Diagnosing and repairing the root cause of the electrical and brake system faults will likely require deep electrical system testing and potentially replacement of sensors or control modules.

Electrical System,air Bags,seat Belts →1 issue
Your car is incorrectly telling you that your seat belt isn't fastened when it actually is. Additionally, your dashboard is displaying a message that says "SRS airbag system malfunction visit your dealer," which means your airbag system may not work properly in a crash. This is a serious safety concern since your airbags may not deploy if you're in an accident. A dealer will need to diagnose and repair the seat belt sensor and airbag system electronics.

Steering,unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your car suddenly stalled while driving normally, and the steering became very difficult to control. The dashboard showed "engine stopped, steering power low" warnings. Your car wouldn't restart for about 10 minutes while sitting in the middle of the road, requiring help from other drivers to push it to safety. After 10 minutes, it restarted and drove normally; the battery and alternator tested fine, but your mechanic couldn't identify the cause. This electrical or engine control issue could be diagnosed by checking the vehicle's computer error codes and testing the starter motor and fuel pump.

Electrical System,unknown Or Other,visibility/wiper →1 issue
Your windshield wipers turn on when you use the turn signal, and your car's microphone sometimes doesn't work properly during phone calls — people can't hear you even though you can hear them. Your mechanic son suspects these issues may be related to faulty wiring in the steering column, and you're concerned this could be connected to a known airbag sensor recall. The wiper problem is happening more frequently, and the microphone issue could be a safety concern in emergencies.

Power Train,service Brakes →1 issue
Your clutch slave cylinder developed a leak, causing your clutch pedal to stick and making it hard to shift gears. The leaking fluid also lowered your brake and clutch fluid levels, which could have eventually caused brake failure if the leak wasn't fixed. The fix will likely involve replacing the clutch slave cylinder and refilling your brake and clutch fluid.

Electrical System, unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your car is displaying an "Engine Maintenance Required" warning message that appears to be related to your air conditioning system and a coolant bypass valve. The warning only triggers when you turn on the A/C, and you've found that many other 2020 and newer Toyota owners report the same issue. The dealer has indicated this is not a recall and requires out-of-pocket repair, though multiple owners experiencing the same problem suggests this may warrant broader attention.
