Owner Complaints (19)
You discovered that your 2017 Toyota Corolla's odometer reading was incorrect when you purchased it. The dealer showed 100,534 miles at sale, but a Carfax report revealed the actual mileage was 112,085 miles. This mileage discrepancy suggests the odometer may have been tampered with or rolled back. Addressing this will likely require contacting the dealer, your state's consumer protection agency, or an attorney, as this may constitute odometer fraud.

Your airbag and seat belt warning lights turn on when you start your car, even when the passenger seat is empty. This is a safety concern since these systems are designed to protect you in a crash. The dealer couldn't diagnose the issue without a fee, and previous repairs to the airbag, dashboard, seat belt, and wiring harness haven't resolved it. You may need a diagnostic scan to identify an electrical issue in the airbag or seat belt system, possibly related to the wiring harness or seat belt sensors.

You purchased a 2017 Toyota Corolla as a private sale, but discovered a serious mileage discrepancy when registering the vehicle. The odometer showed 81,456 miles at purchase, but registration records indicated the actual mileage was 257,000 miles — a difference of over 175,000 miles. This suggests the odometer may have been tampered with or rolled back. Resolving this will likely require investigating the vehicle's service history and potentially reporting the issue to your local DMV or law enforcement.

On the morning of July 21st the vehicle was parked in the garage the night before when all of the sudden our neighbors were yelling at my wife and I to exit the house because they saw fire flames and black smoke coming out of the garage. Everything in that garage and part of the house was destroyed. After it was safe to enter the house we noticed the damage was concentrated where the Toyota was parked, the explosion from the engine caused the hood to almost touch the windshield. Half the engine was gone.
The car was in a traffic jam, when the car automatically turned off and the control panel started to display the battery signal. This event occurred when the car was in the middle of a road. The car was pushed by other person to a safety area and then it was turned on. This situation never happened before. The vehicle battery is practically new and after the incident, the battery signal (lamp) has not been activated. The vehicle was evaluated by a Toyota authorized dealer, cleaning the combustion system, but there is uncertainty that this situation can occur again. A car that automatically turned off in the middle of the road is a safety issue for the driver and passengers, and also for other drivers.
All windows and all door locks stopped working by switches.
I reached out to the manufacturer several months ago about the recall and was told to wait for them to order the parts to fix it. I waited and reached out again and nothing has changed. I am not sure how to get to this recall fixed without the cooperation of the manufacturer.

CANNOT RENEW VEHICLE REGISTRATION DUE TO THE RECALL. RECALL CANNOT BE PERFORMED SINCE MANUFACTURER DOES NOT HAVE A REMEDY. I'M NOW PLACED IN A POSITION WHEREIN I MIGHT HAVE TO PAY FINES AND OTHER FEES AND NOT HAVE A VALID REGISTERED VEHICLE TO USE TO GET TO AND FROM WORK.
WHILE DRIVING WARNING LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD LIT UP AND CAR SHUT DOWN.ACCORDING TO SCREEN ON DASH IT SHOWED MALFUNCTION OF AIRBAGS, ABS, LANE CHANGE WARNING, AMONG OTHER SYSTEM PARTS. ABLE TO RESTART CAR AND DRIVE IT TO DEALER. TOYOTA NOTIFIED ME THAT SQUIRRELS HAD EATEN THE MAIN WIRE HARNESS. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT TOYOTA AND OTHER AUTO MANUFACTURERS USE SOY BASED WIRING AND WIRE COVERS WHICH DRAW ALL TYPES OF RODENTS TO THEM AND THEY DESTROY THE MAIN HARNESS ELECTRICAL PARTS TO MALFUNCTION. THIS CAN CAUSE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHILE DRIVING POSSIBLY CAUSING ACCIDENTS RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. BRAKES MAY FAIL ,AIR BAGS MAY NOT DEPLOY ETC. TOYOTA KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO CORRECT IT. IT COST ME $5000.00 TO REPAIR AND I STILL DO NOT FEEL SAFE. I NOTIFIED TOYOTA CORP. OFFICE THEY TOOK MY COMPLAINT AND SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT IT. THEY DID GIVE ME A CASE #[XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TT

WAS DRIVING MY CAR HOME FROM WORK AND ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER I STARTED IT AND BEGAN TO DRIVE, I WENT OVER A SPEED BUMP GOING 5MPH AND SUDDENLY MY THEFT ALARM SYSTEM STARTS GOING OFF AND INCESSANTLY HONKING. MY HAZARD LIGHTS ALSO BEGAN TO BLINK AND MY HIGH BEAMS TURNED ON. I PULLED OVER AND PRESSED MY SMART KEY ALARM MULTIPLE TIMES UNTIL THE ALARM STOPPED. EVERY TIME I WOULD HIT ANY SORT OF BUMP OR USE MY TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, THE ALARM AND HEADLIGHTS LIGHTS WOULD START GOING OFF. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG. THEY SAID IT IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE, BUT NOT A TOYOTA ONE. THAT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE SINCE TOYOTA ENGINEERS THE ELECTRIC COMPONENTS.
WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT A STOPLIGHT, A CAR COME OUT IF NO WHERE. I TRIED TO SLAM ON THE BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP FASTER BUT THE BREAKING SYSTEM DID NOT REACT TO THE PEDAL BEING PRESSED DOWN. I WAS MET WITH A STIFF PEDAL AND I COULD FEEL THE BRAKES PUSHING BACK WHICH CAUSED ME TO HIT ANOTHER CAR THAT HAD ALREADY ENTERED INTO AN INTERSECTION.
