2016 Ram 1500 Fuel System Problems

I recently purchased this 2016 RAM 1500 from a family member. I was driving at highway speeds between 60-80 MPH in heavy rush hour traffic. The vehicle suddenly lost power & died at highway speeds.

I presently have 92,200 miles on my Doge Ram. I have experienced 3 fuel pump/fuel sender failures. The first at 18,947 miles, second at 43,634 miles and third at 92,263.This last fuel pump replacement will have the defective pump available for inspection after the repair work is done.

Issue with the relay controlling the fuel pump located in the fuel tank(lift pump) When the relay stop working, the engine cannot be started or don't supply fuel to the High pressure fuel pump (HPFP) forcing to stop on the road. Could lead seriously to an unsafe situation like the HPFP can do. This issue can be reproduce easily by the dealer.

Exhaust flange before the DPF, bolts sheared off and melted my DEF line, dealer replaced the DEF line $826 but made noone aware of the failed flange gasket or bolts

Question 1 The front fuel tank strap pulled out of its mount due to corrsion. The vehicle may be inspected request. Question 2 The tank could have fallen out before I noticed causing accident fire or injuries.

I had the AEM for mission controls performed. Since then, I have experienced a reduction of 5 miles per gallon in fuel efficiency. Additionally, and more importantly, there is a lag in acceleration from a stopped position that is a safety issue.

Top of the fuel sending unit cracked, causing the diesel fuel to continually stream out under the truck as long as it was running. Causing a fire hazard and loss of power.

I have a excelleration issue when truck is cold . This may cause a accident.

Why is there recall on the dodge ram 1500 fuel sensor? Driving down the interstate and all of a sudden my gas gage drops with alarms and check engine light comes on. I could have had an accident in traffic and having to look down at the dashboard in such in haste.

I need help with a safety issue after recall v08 epa & carb emissions modification. Since the program was updated, I have experienced severe hesitation upon acceleration. This hesitation is so severe that I cannot safely pull into traffic without risking an accident.

19v 757 (safety recall number) safety recall was issued on 10.28.2019 to a possible fire hazard in the engine compartment due to possible cracks in the egr cooler. The date listed for notification / fix (december 13, 2019) has come and gone with no updates or info from fiat / chrysler. Due to the potential hazard of a fire, fca should have this issue resolved by now.....

Ram 2016 ecodiesel is the subject of recall vb1 regarding threat of fire from faulty egr valve. The NHTSA recall was announced in october and now the best estimate of a fix has been delayed from december 13 to april. That's too long to park this vehicle.

Your fuel tank is sagging due to severe rust and failure of the front support bracket that holds it in place. This same problem was recalled for earlier Ram 1500 models, but your truck's VIN wasn't included in that recall even though it appears to have the same defect. The tank support bracket will need to be inspected and likely replaced with a new one.

Fuel level sensor failed. Truck will randomly display false fuel levels. This causes the fuel level to be unknown leading the potential of running out gas and being stranded.

The recall for high pressure pump came out in July of 2022. To this day there is no fix. They just put back in the same defective high pressure pump and it breaks down again leaving you stranded.

Recall was announced in June 2022, there is still not remedy. I was driving my vehicle when all of a sudden it stalled out in the middle of an interstate. I was able to drift to the median to keep myself and others safe.

Hello, On March the 31st, 2023 my husband 2016 Dodge 1500 ECO Diesel Truck serial number 1C6RR7KM5GS326355 stopped working while on a fishing trip returning to Tucson, Arizona . The truck was towed to Globe , Arizona still at auto shop since March 31,2023 , he left it for them to fix thinking he would get his truck in about a week or so.

There was a factory recall to replace high pressure fuel delivery pump. Dodge dealership will not replace my pump. My truck stalls and loses power due to this faulty pump.

I registered my Ram pickup VIN # [XXX] with the dealer I purchased it from, the day after I received the card from CFA telling me about the recall. I have checked with that dealer monthly since. They always say parts are not available.

I was driving on the highway and my vehicle lost power. I was able to make it home safely. I try to go around the block and as I was accelerating the truck keep loosing power.

Fuel sensor has failed which appears to be a common problem with the 2016 Ram 1500, this is a very expensive fix for people on a fixed income for a part that has a history of failing. The dealer wants to charge in excess of $800.00 dollars for this repair installing the same part they know is going to fail in time. There are many blogs on the internet stating that the part fails at random miles.

My trucks gas pump icon started flashing after the warning dinger went off on my 2016 ram 1500 crew cab sport. I then noticed my gas gauge showed empty. I checked my trip meter and saw that only 86 miles had been driven since I last filled up.

After having the emission recall competed on my 2016 ram 1500 ecodiesel I am experiencing major power loss in certain operating conditions. This condition includes reduced throttle response when accelerating from a stop after cold starting. Since this recall there is significant lag in the throttle leading to traffic having to slow down because I'm not accelerating.

I was accelerating to enter highway i35 in san antonio when my dashboard lit up with multiple flashing lights. Check engine, low fuel indicator, fuel sensor failure error code, along with the ringing alarm that there was no fuel.

Our truck is two years old. We have 77,000 miles on it and the fuel sensor/pump went bad. It's no longer under warranty; however, a fuel pump should last more than 2 years and 77,000 miles.

Front gas tank strap is detached from frame and fuel tank is hanging down ready to fall out on road. There is a recall for this condition on the 2009-2012 models but the same condition exists on the 2016. Strap pulled through the corroded bracket welded to the truck frame.

Ever since I have owned the vehicle, the gas station fill nozzle randomly gets stuck when trying to fill the vehicle. I tried taking it to the dealer years back, but was told there was no fix. When the nozzle gets stuck, you really need to wiggle and pry to get it out, sometime spilling fuel outside the truck when it finally releases.

Have recall and have contacted dealership. But have not been resolved. I submitted a complaint here and have not gotten a response.

Since we got this truck in 2021 it hard starts once it hits half a tank or 200 miles until empty. We have taken it to the mechanic several times just to be told the fuel pump recall was the problem finally got that recall fixed when yall come up with one and it’s still doing it. This recall has been fixed since June 2,2024 and this vehicle barely runs unless kept between 3/4 and full.

I called dealship to schedule the repair of the "high pressure fuel pump" and was told I would be put on a "waiting list" which would be about two (2) YEARS! this is unacceptable to me. The service girl stated the reason being is they do not have "replacement parts" to do the repair and won't have them for two (2) years.

On the highway at 70mph, vehicle stuttered and lost all power. Engine light came on. On side of road vehicle would turn over but not start. Using code reader got codes cp026 and cp016 indicating low or no fuel pressure. Towed 35 miles to dealer. Discovered next day that fuel.pump had failed and sent debris into the fuel injection system. I have been waiting more than since they notified owners when problem discovered for a remedy as per the recall. Now the HPFP has failed. Waiting on FCA for their solution as this is my only vehicle.

The safety recall for the 2016 RAM Ecodiesel is taking too long. The recall was issued in 2022 and it is now 2024. I want my HPFP replaced ASAP.

I had about 3/4 of a tank of gas. I noticed my fuel gauge go down to empty, and the low fuel light started blinking. It then when back up to about 3/4. It did this a couple of times until it stayed on empty, and the check engine light came on. The next time I started my truck, I got a "Fuel Sensor Fail" notification. I get that every time I start up. When I filled my tank, the gauge began to work again, but I still had a check engine light. I checked my codes, and had a P0463 code, which indicates a fuel sensor fail. I cleared the code, and the gauge worked for about a day and half. When I got to about 3/4 of a tank of gas again, it all happened again. I have about 78,000 miles.

Driving down road and truck engine sputtered and lost power eventually completely stalling out. If on a busy highway I could have been hit due to the loss of power at speed. I had it towed to a dealership and they have confirmed it is the High Pressure Fuel Pump that has failed and is under recall. There were no warnings of this failure prior to it happening.

My truck lost power and the engine shut off in the middle of an intersection. I had it towed to my local Ram dealer in June of 2023. It is now November 27th of 2023 and the vehicle cannot be fixed because of the Z46 recall has no parts. I have been in contact with my dealer and they gave me a quote of $13000 to replace the fuel pump with no guarantee I could get reimbursed for these repairs. The recall was scheduled to be out by August of 2023 and was pushed back to January of 2024. That will be 6 months of paying for a vehicle I cannot drive because Ram won't issue a fix for this. The dealer did verify that the fuel pump is the problem.

The HPFP on my ecodiesel went out the first half of April. It is currently at a Chrysler dealership and is available for inspection. The safety of little children were at risk because I was driving through my neighborhood when it failed.

Recall announced June 2022, manufacturer was so release fix first quarter 2023, my dealer checked today, no fix from Ram. The dealer has one used vehicle on their lot they can't sell because recall hasn't been done. What are my options?

Received recall notice Z46/NHTSA 22V-406 July 2022. Had received no update as of May 1, 2023 and called local Ram Dealer (Turpin Motors Dubuque, Iowa). They indicated parts available & would order and call me for appointment.

I experienced a loss of power while driving roughly 2 months ago while driving on the highway. I took my truck to an independent shop, who diagnosed the problem as a premature failure of the High Pressure Fuel Pump. They informed me that the fuel pump is under recall warranty, and I should take my truck to the dealer to have the recall fulfilled.

Said there will not be any recall fixed anytime soon

Hi have a 2016 ram 1500 5.7l hemi (big horn quad cab). Check engine and fuel light came on and read," fuel level sensor fail" but my gas tank is full and still reads empty. After researching this is a big issue people are experiencing and complaining about and should be a recall..dodge is doing nothing to remedy this faulty part and still charging people to fix a dodge problem..

I have owned this vehicle for over two years and have asked several time to have recall 19v-757 fixed. I get the same answer that chrysler will only alow them to get a certian number of parts to do these repairs. They can put me on a list to get them repaired.

Fuel pump sensor failure on truck, very dangerous, I do not know how much fuel is in my tank, the fuel gage drops to empty. I am afraid I will get stuck in a snow storm and run out of gas. Ram is well aware of the issue as it is very common and they will not repair for free.

Fuel sensor fails after filling up vehicle. After filling up tank the vehicle will register full for 30 to 40 miles. Then sensor will fail and read empty which brings in check engine light.

The fuel gauge goes to empty when it is full. Bad fuel sensor. It basically bounces around when I fill it up and then returns to empty.

A QUICK SEARCH OF ONLINE FORUMS REVEALED MANY HAVE THIS ISSUE. WITHOUT KNOWING HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE TANK, ONE COULD BE LEFT STRANDED.

THE DAY I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, LITERALLY ON THE DRIVE HOME ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER SIGNING THE PAPERWORK, THE FUEL GAUGE SUDDENLY DROPPED TO EMPTY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE MESSAGE CENTER INDICATED A "FUEL SENSOR FAIL".. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND AS SOON AS I STOPPED, THE GAUGE ROSE BACK TO 3/4 TANK AND THE ISSUE DIDN'T PRESENT ITSELF AGAIN FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. NOW, EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO EMPTY RIGHT ABOUT THE TIME IT SHOULD READ 3/4 TANK AND STARTS WORKING AGAIN AT ABOUT 1/4 TANK. THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS SPREAD OUT OVER SO MANY MODEL YEARS, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HASN'T GENERATED A RECALL. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED WITH JUST OVER 36,000 MILES ON IT. I NOW HAVE JUST UNDER 41,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND HAVE NO IDEA JUST HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE VEHICLE.

Takata recall I have a 2016 dodge ram 1500 with 33000 miles on it.the other day my gas light came so I pulled off to the side of the road thinking I had a leak because I just filled up the day before then I got a message on the dash that said fuel sensor fail so I went on the internet and found out it is a very common known problem that dodge hasn't done anything to fix after reading up on it I fully believe that this problem should be recalled and resolved

Fuel level sensor failure, causes fuel gauge to read zero and check engine light to come on. First gauge will read incorrectly then fall to just reading zero, happens in all conditions of driving and vehicle running. Its a known issue for the ram 1500.

Truck has 25,200 miles on it and has fuel sensor failure alarm. After reading some information with other owners, they all have the same problem with their ram pickup. Evidently this happens anywhere from 5,000 miles and up.

Hello, I called my dealership and asked them about my fuel sensor, check engine light has been on. Sometimes when I fill up my tank it goes away. That being said.

I was backing a pontoon boat while in 4WD low in soft mulch, I then stopped and switched back to 2wd. Once the electronic shifting was complete, the fuel sensor fail message appeared in the instrument cluster, the low fuel warning and the check engine light both illuminated. The fuel (gas) tank was about 3/4 full when this occurred.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 ram 1500. While adding fuel to the vehicle, the fuel pump nozzle became stuck in the fuel tank filler tube. The contact had to remove the nozzle from the fuel tank by twisting and pulling with force each time the fuel tank was filled in order to release the fuel pump nozzle.

Truck shutdown while driving down highway @ 65 MPH without any other symptoms. Had to coast to side of busy road. Service electronic throttle control flashed as well as the check engine light.

The truck down speeds to 40 MPH without notice or warning. The fuel filter appears to be clogging and the fuel injectors and lines are also clogged. Dodge refuses to fix the issue opting to replace parts and informing me that I must monitor the truck bring it in every 12,000 miles for repair.

The front gas tank strap mount on the frame rusted to the point the new one I purchased falls out of the frame. Some Rams have the recall applied mine shows zero. I have a strap to hold the tank up temporarily but I need a permanent fix.

The front strap that holds the gas tank up broke loose from the frame rusting out.

I've read many problems with not being able to put fuel in the truck, I am experiencing that exact problem. You can't pump gas into the tank. The nozzle shuts off immediately, after .15 cents or so.

FCA/Stellantis has failed as of 09/06/2023 to provided replacement parts for the high pressure pump under recall 22V-406 continuing to subject diesels under this recall to failure

At ~50,000 miles the fuel level gauge would go to Empty only after I filled the tank fully. Now it no longer work at all. The fuel level sensor is defective.

2016 RAM 1500- Consumer states "We are asking for your help with a recall of our 2016 Dodge Ram pickup which has a problem with the High Pressure Fuel Pump. We have been waiting for almost 2 years for Dodge to resolve this problem and we are getting nowhere. I called again today June 12, 2023 and they told me they still haven't resolved how to handle the problem.

The fuel tank strap bracket on the frame has rotted out. Tanks is now hanging only by one strap. Also front of tank is 3 to 4 inches lower.

Truck randomly turns itself completely off without warning losing all control of any power or ability to restart the truck to remove it from the road. Gives a Fuel Sending unit failure error, will not go into eco mode and will not remote start.

Looking to find out how long the manufacturer has to recall my vehicle? Trying to find out when parts will be available. Just to recall a vehicle does not get the known problem resolved.

Fuel Level Sensor & Pump Fail

The frame mount where the front fuel tank strap slides into has corroded out causing my fuel tank strap to release from the frame and allowing my fuel tank to sag in the front.

Remedy is not available

Vehicle recently began refusing to accept fuel, nearly stranding me on a road trip with no way to drive it. Tested on multiple pumps/stations and filling positions, and the problem persists. Cannot get more than 1/4 gallon of fuel into the tank without the pump shutting off automatically.

Ram 1500 Fuel Sensor malfunctions over time providing an empty reading when fuel level is well above zero. Part is poorly designed and can lead to confusion as to the actual fuel reading. In researching this issue, it appears that many other RAM 1500 owners are experiencing the same issue --

Fuel gauge drops to empty when gas tank is full. Then reads fuel and then will drop back to empty. Never had a vehicle do this before.

After filling gas tank, gas gauge sporadically goes to empty and low gas light comes on. Happens pretty much every time I fill the tank. Happens out of nowhere while driving and during startup.

With only 45,000 miles I have had two different issues with the fuel system. The latest issue is showing a fuel level sensor fail. The tank shows full after filling, but after 50 miles it does not register any fuel.

The fuel level sensor circuit has high output. It can't pass emissions. The vehicle was stationary.

I have a 2016 ram ecodiesel that had no performance issues prior to the recall. It is now very sluggish, lacks power and is slow getting to speed, also hunts/searches for gears. It has become a safety hazard when accelerating to merge into traffic.

Filled up my fuel tank and as you drive down the road your fuel gage continues to go up and down. Then your low fuel light goes off. Then you get a fuel level sensor code that comes up on the dash.

The truck is stationary and is turned off and when I push the push to start button the truck begins to turn on and cuts off before it fully begins to run. Turns off mid ignition and dies. Have to push to start more than once.

I am a 2016 ram 1500 crew cab. If I use the vst gas nozzles they get stuck in the filler neck. It takes about 10-15 mins to get it unstuck.
