2016 Ram 1500 Electrical Problems

At 90,000 miles ABS, traction control and brake light came on, mechanic said it’s a defective ABS module, and that there are none available anywhere, it’s under engineering review. This is a known issue, and now a recall for 2017 and above, my Ram is a 2016, same part. This poses a safety risk as the brakes can lock up, causing an accident.

the connecter under Power Distribution Center has melted and has made it so that the blower motor turns on and off at random. This is going to cause a fire if not fix. There is alot of other people online saying they have the same issue and even showing photos of the connecter.

ASB warning light is on Emergency brake light is on Check engine light is on Fuel cap light is on Backup camera doesn't work well Brakes are sluggish. ABS doesn't seem to be working. Hard to stop to avoid collision.

Upon braking on the interstate the truck lost control and almost crashed due to not braking properly. ABS, Brake and traction control lights all came on and have stayed on steadily since. Truck pulls to the right every time we brake.

The vehicle has a faulty ABS module, which has resulted in my truck losing traction on dry roads and wet roads, however the “wet” roads are a result of a minimal sprinkle. The vehicle is beyond a vital component of my ability to make a living, i work in construction and have to be able to safely move equipment and supplies to sites; as of right now I am unable to drive the vehicle. The faulty ABS module caused my brakes to lock while pulling out of a park space with a slight incline in my place of employment, resulting in the sliding backwards towards a company vehicle and to avoid hitting it I moved the steering wheel to collide with a brick wall. The brakes and rotors were replaced a few months earlier this year as well as the truck being serviced regularly, however, the truck has continued to have parts fail throughout this year. From the starter to the fuel injection system, pump, gaskets between the engine and fuel intake, and now the vehicle is literally completely unsafe to drive and operate on the road! The traction control regulator is apart of the ABS system control module! I have looked everywhere (Firestone, DARCARS, Ect.) to find a replacement part and have been told that there are none available until sometime in March of 2024! There are no other options for me to reach out to. The vehicle can be inspected if requested, the issue appeared 3-4 weeks ago before being brought into the firestone shop before being serviced for faulty gaskets and fuel injection issues. The vehicle is under 100,000 miles, and I purchased it with just over 43,000 miles. I am in the process of contacting my insurance company and collecting the various service charges from different repair shops resulting in the inability to get the part.

I was driving down the highway when my truck suddenly throws its self into park while traveling at 55 MPH. My stuck started spinning causing me to bounce off the safety rails on both sides of the highway. My truck took a front end hit to a concrete wall and my airbags did not deploy.

I was in two separate major accidents and the airbags did not deploy. I got injuries due to this. They have been looked at by shops when repairs were made.

The evic (electronic vehicle information center) switches do not work so I cannot see safety related issues displayed on the instrument panel. Lights on cruise switch and electronic gear shift do not illuminate nor does the evic control buttons located on the left and right side of steering wheel .

28 degrees f this morning. I started truck and let it warm up for 5 min. Disengaged the parking brake, put it in drive.

Driving on a highway at 60 m/h engine start smoking and caught on fire without any previous alert or check engine light on after I pullover and lift the hood to inspect the smoke.

My truck has under 20,000 miles, and I have had an electrical fire underneath my drivers seat, that caused the whole truck to fill with smoke.

My son was driving south on I-15 towards san diego at 65mph in the travel lane (2nd left most lane) when his new truck suddenly and without warning completely shut itself off. Vehicle is experiencing a failure of the Anti Brake System Controller Module. This issue is triggering a "Red Brake" system light as well as others (Antiskid failure etc,) on the dash. Vehicle manual states do not drive the vehicle.

After having a full tank of fuel/gas my gas gauge will fluctuate to empty I'm saying no fuel on my gauges and the gas light will come on. When another person is in my vehicle like my wife driving that is not used to this will cause her to panic when she is on the highway or other roadways driving at high speeds and this can be dangerous.

On vacation 07/29/2023 towing a 4000lb. camping trailer with family in the mountains with weekend traffic when motor dies without warning. Luckily I was able to pull over safely.

I was driving down the highway at 75 MPH and my truck died in the middle of the highway luckily I pushed it off to the shoulder and it wouldn’t restart had it towed to a shop where I was told the crankshaft tone ring needed to be replaced but no parts to fix it due to “back order” this has been recalled but doesn’t show a fix on my vehicle and it needs to be fixed immediately.

Purchased my 2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 SLT Big Horn June 2019. At that point the previous owner had the truck in the shop and while there it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed. About January 2020 I stated having the famous Hemi Tick but not all the time.

I was exiting the freeway, sped up from about 55mph to pass a semi before the exit narrowed and my '16 RAM 1500 Ecodiesel just stopped working. I got warning lights one after another, "engine oil low pressure", "electric system" "brake system" basically the whole christmas tree lit up. I was almost hit and probably killed by the 18 wheeler I just passed, coasted to a stop and pulled over.

There was a nationwide recall on the ecodiesel engine due to a class-action lawsuit. The repair was made and now the truck does not accelerate until the engine warms up. This is very dangerous as you pull out into traffic and the truck does not go.

The oem trailer brake controller does not provide enough braking power to a towed trailer. The towed single axle travel trailer weighs just under 4,000lbs fully loaded. All gain and trailer type settings on the controller produce the same level of braking to the trailer at any speed from idle to 25-30mph or faster when using the manual brake lever on the controller.

k my ABS and traction control and brake light came on my truck has 86k miles well took it and got it scanned said ABS control module internal short so went on line to order one on back order and no date when available so went to dealer and they said no can’t get one nationwide back order so now my trucks brakes are not safe and I contacted ram with no response so idk wat to do and I thought car manufacturers had to keep parts available for so many years and the part I need also fits newer ones also so it should be available instead every time I have to drive it’s possible to not be able to stop without sliding I would jus trade it in but will be a loss because of the brakes and all the lights on also I purchased this truck new

The ABS module failed causing the cruise control, ABS, and traction control systems to become inoperable.

My Ram truck ( with extended manufacturer's warranty) has a faulty ABS module which has resulted in not having the ABS safety feature. In addition, this failed module renders speed control inoperative, thus increasing fatigue on long trips. The diagnosis was from July 29, 2025 by a Sulphur Springs dealer [very nice folks].

I have a 2016 dodge 1500 hemi 5.7. The chrysler dealership diagnose that the ABS module was bad. these ABS modules are very rare to find.

2016 Ram 1500 Express, 5.7L, 65K miles. The ABS, Traction Control, Break lights are on. This also impacts the Cruise Control making them all inoperable, even though the truck is still able to be drive, albeit unsafely.

The Antilock Braking System module has failed, rendering the ABS system inoperative as well as prohibiting cruise control. The Sulphur Springs Ram Dealership has been very nice, but are telling me that the replacement module is unavailable and has no estimate time of arrival????

ABS light came on a long time ago and I have been unable to get it repaired due to availability of the part and demand due to so many owners having an issue with this ABS module failing. This is not a wear and tear part, this module should not have failed when it did. I see there have been recalls on other Ram trucks and 2016 has been left out.

ABS control module failed. Dash warning lights are on and error code present for ABS module failure. There is no replacement available and no one can give any kind of estimate for when the part may ever be available.

My ABS, traction control and cruise control do not work because the ABS control module is bad. Dodge does not offer any fix or repair. There is no response from Dodge on when there will be a remedy.

ABS module malfunction according to codes. Brake and traction control lights are on 97% of the time, randomly the lights won’t come on. But having no ABS or trailer brakes makes using our travel trailer extremely unsafe.

Ram has an issue with the electronic brake module. It effects the anti-brake, anti-slip, trailer brake, and cruise control. They are aware of it and it is documented on many forums as far back as 2016 on my model.

ABS / BRAKE / TRACTION CONTROL/CRUISE CONTROL I am having problems with the list above. I have had my brakes, rotors and ABS sensors replaced. Not to mention the dealership (Nyle Maxwell -Killeen, TX) supposedly did thorough check up and also changed out all the brake necessities a few years back.

My ABS/Brake/Traction alarm is lit up on my 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn (99.5k miles) and I was notified that the part is not available from Mopar/Dodge. It has been checked out by Firestone and confirmed by them that the part is not available.

No one has ever fixed my recalls but it says it was done. I’m am getting the occupant light and having electric problems. Also there is leaking around the top break light causing it to leak inside

Has had the "Hemi tick" ever since I bought it new. But didnt seem to effect performance, so I thought.......Time went on and the "tick" became louder and louder even though I got the oil changed religiously, air filters, tires, (2) tune ups, all proper maintenance was performed for the livelihood and longevity of the truck accordingly and have receipts to back up that claim. Now, at about 100,000 miles i had to replace the rear differential and axle of which i noticed was a recall of the same year and same truck but they say according to my vin number there are no recalls.......well, we need to include my truck in some of these because ive already paid out of pocket for the same problem listed in the recall. Also, regarding the active class action "HEMI TICK" lawsuit, low and behold, as i accumulated more miles, it gravitated to a loud tick, and an extreme loss of power when trying to accelerate to get on a highway or pass somebody on the highway, or even just take off from a green light.....it runs higher rpm than normal, the combustion is incorrect for sure, If I needed to hit the gas to get out of the way of danger, chances of success are grim. Twice I was on the highway going 70 and it straight up died, went blank! We were ok, thank God! My miles per gallon has dwindled away lower and lower getting about 8-11 mpg. It overheated this last summer in this condition. Anytime I parked and idled i had to have the hood open to prevent overheating. Took it to a couple auto shops and after replacing the fan clutch twice, the PCM, the throttle body/position sensor, accelerator position sensor, radiator flush, new radiator cap..........we cleared all error codes being we replaced the problems causing it to present a clear operating truck error free. .........all except the engine light when turning the key to power on, it blinked 10 times. Took it to dealership who quoted 800 to tear down the engine to get to the lifters and camshaft. 5,250.00 quote for lawsuit problem.

While listening to radio, radio station would change on its own a couple times. Also, while listening to pandora, songs would skip out of no where.

In February 2022 while driving my ABS light came on and stayed illuminated. I pulled over emergently on the freeway worried that my brakes were out. That was not the case, but the light was on and I was not sure if the vehicle could be driven. I got home and called Cutter Pearl City asap and was told that appointments were months away for service/diagnostic (I can only assume that this was due to COVID). I then took it to Capital Auto Repair in Waipio and had them read the code. I was told my ABS module was faulty and needed to be changed, at this point my 2016 truck only had 45000 miles on it and is well cared for-I disappointed but accept that a repair is necessary to drive my car safely. I called back Dodge to discuss my concerns and that I wanted the repair asap for the part. I was then told that the part was on National back order, no other information was available to me but I was again told that repairs were also being booked out a few months even with a diagnostic but that because it was on national back order it was not worth bringing it in at that time. I reached out to Honolulu Autoworks who is known to repair Dodge and Jeep and was told that if the part is on National Back Order he would not be able to get an OEM replacement. We have since placed this problem on the back burner but began having new code stating electronic throttle issues so finally took it into Autoworks-he is unable to repair anything without first repairing ABS issue because it is a "hard" code and per Dodge parts the parts are still on back order under "engineer review until 3/2024". The ABS module is $552 and the pump is recommended to be repaired at the same time is $1545 plus the labor. I am dumbfounded that this is not a recall a tthis point. I have been on forums and there are so many complaints. I have owned Ram/Dodge/Chrysler vehicles all of my adult life. I am questioning buying one in the future and am upset that this repair on a truck with 51000 miles is impossible!

The Anti-Lock Brake System Control Module as well as the Hydraulic Control Unit associated with the ABS Control Module. The left front Caliper locked up while driving. My safety and the safety of the passengers in my vehicle were at risk, as well as the other vehicles nearby.

I have a 2016 ram 1500 big Ha and the other day that ignition switch went bad on the truck and I’m in New Jersey and I took it to my dealer and they said they can’t get any of the parts for about a month because no dealerships in New Jersey know dealerships on the East Coast or the West Coast have any of these parts the ignition switch that they have all trucks in the same year as me For the same problem and they can’t get the part till next month or two months they have to order it it’s on back order the park the only place that has the part is Clovis Mexico and they only had seven left in stock but if you look into the 2016 ram there’s no recalls on this On the ignition switch in the 2017 ram there is a recall on it and on a 2015 ram there is a recall on the for the ignition switch another 2016 why

I own 2016 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4 SLT Big Horn. I purchased the truck in June 2019 at our local Dodge Dealership in Vinita, Oklahoma with 59k on it. Truck ran fine, did have the Hemi Tick startin until December 20,2021 and the CEL came on.

Engine speed surged while pulling into parking space. Bringing to dealer to have checked. No warning, or codes given.

The fuel gage intermittently drops to zero fuel whe the tank is approximately half full or less. Based on numerous searches this is a common problem. This should be a safety recall item.

As I was driving, after turning a corner, accelerating about 40 MPH the engine violently shook, truck lost engine power. After towing back to dealer, the fault code indicated the sensor ring failed (recall w58). That was mid-september 2020.

Fuel sensor failure warning followed by not showing fuel level and activating the check engine light.

I've had chronic problems with the back up camera system since I purchased this $60,000 truck. Ram has replaced the camera 3 times and doctored the connection an additional time and it still fails in a few months. Given the size of this vehicle, this is a serious safety concern in an urban environment.

I recently purchased this vehicle from a used car dealer. This has happened 3 times so far. Sometimes when putting vehicle in drive or reverse, it will lock transmission in park.

Problems for several owners of 2016 ram trucks. They are complaining on a ram truck forum about their windows falling off the tracks and down into their doors. It is mainly happening to the driver's side window and only in cold weather.

I would like to thank ram with the awesome troubleshooting skills you have provided me with my parking sensors in my 2016 ram. After 6 trips to the dealership replaced almost all the sensors and the control module. Your answer is to turn off your sensors when it's not sunny and dry out because rain!!!!

Vehicle completely died in the intersection right after taking off from the stoplight. Could not remove key and it will not shift into park.

When the engine is shut off and the key removed the ignition portion of the switch does not come out and remains in the lower position in the switch. The key can be used to get the switch to the position to start the truck.this situation does not happen all of the time. The dealership said that they could not duplicate the problem..

Error code p0463 - fuel level sending unit failure. Seems to happen to everyone right out of warranty... 40k miles, under 3 years old.

Vehicle loss electricity while running on higway or road, at the beginning it started turning everything off and turning on about 2 or 3 seconds later. Problem started at the beginning of june 2018.

I have a 2016 ram ecodiesel fully loaded limited 1500 and I have had nothing but problems with it this past year. I have gone to three different dealerships and none of them can fix the vehicle it only has 40k miles on it and is in perfect condition other than now it is overheating and the fan is on constantly. I believe maybe there is a leak in the coolant line?

While driving the truck at night the lights flicker almost like as if you were flashing your lights at someone in front of you, this truck has been to dealership a total of 16 times for this reason.

Multiple times now my vehicle has been unable to start. After jumping the vehicle, it will stay running. I have taken it to the dealership and left it there for 3 days.

Receiving error message and chime warning 'key in ignition' when ignition is in the off position in the key complete removed. Took vehicle to the dealership, service department could not find any fault codes nor replicate the problem. They re-flashed the cpu to correct another problem with this vehicle; however it did not correct the problem.

When I get below 1/4 of a tank I have a fuel sensor failure every time that trows a check engine light

Two times in the last month when we entered the noted vehicle the dash lights came on as expected but when the ignition button was pushed to start the vehicle dash became totally black an the vehicle would not start like there was no electric power , after about a minute all dash lights came on again and the vehicle was able to be started.

On 8/18/2016, the vehicle operator reported that the engine would not start and the vehicle was brought to the mid county dealership for repairs. Mechanics tested the vehicle and found that the battery was dead and replaced it.

Our company leased this vehicle from mid county chrysler dodge jeep ram on 12/16/2015 as a part of an eight vehicle fleet. On 8/18/2016, the vehicle operator reported that the engine would not crank and needed jumper cables to start. The vehicle was brought to mid county chrysler for repairs.

My Ram 1500 will randomly loose power while driving then pick back up, I have had several issues with electrical including lights flickering or going our for a minute then back on while driving at night, steering wheel controls not working, key fob issues, it also shifts hard at times others its normal.

The Anti-Lock Brake module has failed, causing issues with ABS, Traction Control, Braking in general, and cruise control. I have been in contact with the manufacturer on over 20 occasions over the past year. Their response is always "it's under review, we will have an update in a few weeks."

ABS module failed in July 2024 Subsequently, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, and Cruise Control are not operating. BRAKE light also remains lit on dash panel. ABS module is currently not available from Ram.

The right-hand turn signal fails to cancel after turning. Since we expect it to cancel, this leads to a driver going straight while signaling a right hand turn. Eventually the warning will sound.

ABS control module malfunction. No parts available.

ABS Code C2200-49, anti-lock brake module internal electronic failure. Have not been able to source a new ABS control module for my vehicle. Apparently Dodge/Mopar/Chrysler has stopped producing this part.

On Thursday July 18, 2024 at approximately 5:00pm. I was on my way home from picking my son up from daycare when the screen turned black and my shift knob light (above D letter) began blinking and about 10 seconds later the truck shut off completely. The key wasn’t able to be removed from the ignition.

The driver side window continues to not work properly in cold weather until it completely fell down into the door frame area. It was 7° outside when this finally happened. Driving with the window down at the drivers side is dangerous and can lead to us wrecking.

Truck is 5 yes old and the uconnect radio dose not work .tried everything to get it to work it just blinks on and off or gone to a blue screen and then back to the dodge emblem. Called uconnect they say no up dates on it ..

Vehicle stopped starting. Battery got drained and no lights were left on. I drove it in the morning and in the afternoon it would not start

2016 ram drivers window regulator failure.this the 3 time the nylon clip breaks when there is cold weather. If you get just a little freeze and open the window the clip cracks. The replacement part # is 2387602835.

Radio shuts off without warning, locks up and will only turn back on when shutting off vehicle and restarting it. Headlight flicker on and off while driving. Headlight flicker has done this for 3 months now

The tailgate latch and backup camera. The latch does not lock with the key fob or key. At the time this occurred the backup camera stopped working.

After I bought my 2016 ram 1500 in february 2019 I noticed my horn and the evic on the instrument cluster stopped working causing me not to be able to read my TPMS or oil life or any other evic functions. Also with the horn not working I feel it's a huge safety issue there is a recall for this same issue on previous year models.

The original problem happened earlier in january of 2019. I opened my vehicle and upon starting it, I began to put my seat belt on I noticed the tension on the belt was non existent. In fact I had to "help" the belt back down into the pulley.

Dropping boat in water on slight grade ramp. Put car in park and shut down. As I dropped boat from the trailer the truck rolled down the ramp immersing 3/4 of the body in the salt water.

I keep having problems with the electrical system in the truck. The plugin areas for electronic devices in the rear passenger keeps burning out fuses. I am also having issues with my cruise control button on the steering wheel acting like it has a short turning itself on and off.

I am printing this correction in regards to previous information I reported claim #10994989.I reported when ignition button was pushed was incorrect ,should have read , when ignition key was turned.

The ignition switch is in a position where it can be bumped by the drivers knee. I was driving the truck, bumped the key fob with my knee, and the truck died. I was traveling at highway speed at night, and the truck completely shut off.
