Your airbag warning light is on, your horn doesn't work, and your traction control warning light is illuminated. A recall to fix a faulty clock spring (steering wheel electrical component) was done in 2021, but the same problems have returned. The dealership refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle citing a policy against servicing vehicles over 10 years old. The clock spring likely needs replacement to restore your airbag system, horn, and traction control functionality.

Vehicle engine light came on after driving from carlot- after 50 miles. Meineke- diagnosed report stated, -O2 sensors & catalytic converter needed replacement. Two of tires had a patched over hole. The other two tires had inner bar wears &vehicle needed a steering box.

Bought my jeep in July. On 6 different occasions now it starts vibrating really bad. I can't get it to stop, can't steer it. I've heard of the death wobble and I'm pretty sure this is what's happening. I have an appointment Tuesday August 24 to put a new stabilizer on it. Has there been a recall on my jeep that wasn't fixed properly. It's a dangerous situation when it happens because I have no control over my vehicle at all. I've been lucky so far that it's happened in places that there were no other vehicles in front of me. There's no way I could stop if there was. I have no way of knowing if the stabilizer will fix the problem.

MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER HAS A SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS THE DEATH WOBBLE! I HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT UNTIL IT DID IT WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN A SMOOTH SUBURB STREET AND I SEARCHED THE INTERNET FOR HELP. THE JEEP OWNERS COMMUNITY NAMED IT THE DEATH WOBBLE BECAUSE IT LITERALLY WOBBLES AND SHAKES WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS, WITHOUT ANYTHING TRIGGERING IT, ON EVERY TYPE OF ROAD, AND AT EVERY SPEED. AFTER IT HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY SON IN THE CAR WITH ME, I NO LONGER ALLOWED MY CHILDREN TO RIDE IN THE JEEP AT ALL. WE ALMOST DIED THAT DAY AS IT SHOOK SO VIOLENTLY ALMOST PUTTING US IN THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE! WE MISSED GETTING T-BONED BY AN 18 WHEELER BY JUST A HAIR. IT WAS SO FRIGHTENING! THE JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT SAID THERE'S NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT AND THAT IT WAS VERY COMMON. HOW IS SUCH A DANGER COMMON??? HOW CAN THESE VEHICLES BE LEGALLY SOLD?? THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ALONE AND I ENDED UP IN A DITCH. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE OUT OF THE DITCH AND WENT TO NEARBY AUTO SHOP. THEIR DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE ENGINE "SLING A ROD" THEY SAID. FOR 3 MONTHS NOW, I HAVE BEEN MAKING PAYMENTS ON A JEEP SITTING DEAD IN AN AUTO SHOP. AS A SINGLE MOM I CAN'T AFFORD SUCH A HUGE REPAIR AND ROUTE 66 WARRANTY COMPANY DECIDED TO CANCEL MY ALREADY PAID FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN I FILED THE CLAIM ON IT. THEY DENIED IT AND SAID THEY'RE CANCELING ME. THIS VEHICLE IS GOING TO KILL SOMEONE. PLEASE HELP!!

THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY MY CAR DIED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I THOUGHT MAYBE I HAD RAN OUT OF GAS BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS ON. I FILLED UP WITH THE GAS CAN AND THE JEEP DID NOT START. I TRIED TO JUMP IT USING CABLES AND IT WOULDN'T TURN OVER. I WENT TO AUTOZONE AND BOUGHT A NEW BATTERY, THE JEEP STARTED AFTER THAT. YESTERDAY I GOT AN OIL CHANGE, THEY CHECKED MY BATTERY AND SHOWED ME THE OIL AFTER THE CHANGE, SAID EVERYTHING WAS GOLDEN. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME WHEN MY BATTERY LIGHT POPPED ON AGAIN, I KIND OF SHOOK IT OFF CONSIDERING I JUST REPLACED IT. WELL MY CAR JERKED ME FORWARD, EVERY SINGLE LIGHT TURNED ON AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGH WAY AS MUCH AS I COULD AND MY CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. I GOT IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND THEY CALLED TO TELL ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS MY "TIPM" AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. AS I GOOGLED WHAT THAT WAS REGARDING MY YEAR MAKE AND MODEL I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ABOUT 7 YEARS AGO FOR MY JEEP SPECIFICALLY.

THE JEEP BEGAN TO SHAKE UNCONTROLLABLY. SHE COULD HARDLY CONTROL THE STEERING WHEEL OR THE JEEP. WE WERE FINALLY ABLE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH (ALMOST REAR ENDED TWICE) AND PULL OVER. THIS IS NOT ISOLATED. WE HAD THE JEEP IN FOR REPAIRS BEFORE AND EVERYTHING LISTED FOR REPAIR OF THE DEATH WOBBLE REPLACED. IT IS DOING IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU NEED TO RECALL THESE JEEPS AND MAKE CHRYSLER FIX THEM BEFORE SOMEONE LIKE MY 23 YEAR OLD DIES!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND THEN DROVE VERY SLOWLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE TO PARK AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT. I HAD TO TOW JEEP. I WOULD DESCRIBE THIS AS THE "DEATH WOBBLE" THAT SEEMS TO BE A NOT SO UNCOMMON ISSUE WITH JEEPS. I HAVE HIGH MILEAGE, BUT REPLACED ENGINE DUE TO ANOTHER JEEP ISSUE, SO APPROXIMATELY 70000 MILES ON NEW ENGINE.

"TAKATA RECALL" AS OF YESTERDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2015, A WHITE TAPE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND GO BACK OFF WHICH I THOUGHT WAS ODD BUT, IT WENT BACK OUT SO I WASN'T CONCERNED AND IT NEVER STAYED ON FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. THEN YESTERDAY I GET IN MY JEEP TO GO TO WORK AND AS I TURN THE WHEEL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I COULD HEAR THIS NOISE LIKE SOMEONE WAS WRINKLING UP PAPER. IT IS ONLY EIGHT MILES FROM MY HOME TO WORK SO, I KEPT LISTENING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IT WAS. BY THE TIME I GOT TO WORK, THERE WAS A WHITE TAPE COMING OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN. AFTER WORK, I TOOK IT AND HAD IT LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD THAT THE "CLOCK SPRING" IS UNRAVELING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. USUALLY THIS IS ONLY SEEN WHEN YOU HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIR BAG HAS BEEN DEPLOYED. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT SO, IT SHOULD NOT BE UNRAVELING INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN. I WAS ALSO TOLD, I SHOULDN'T DRIVE MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE IS A CHANCE THE AIR BAG WILL DEPLOY. I GOT IT HOME AND NOW IT IS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY.

I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT. THE SHAKING WAS STILL THERE JUST NOT AS VIOLENT. IN THE PAST 7 YEARS I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS KNOWN AS THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. ON A 25 MILE STRETCH OF ROAD BETWEEN SONOITA, AZ AND TUCSON, ARIZONA I HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD 5 TIMES IN ONE TRIP TO STOP DANGEROUS AND ALMOST UNMANAGEABLE FRONT-END STEERING VIBRATIONS. JEEP AS FAR AS I KNOW HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL, BUT FROM READING AUTOMOTIVE LITERATURE I UNDERSTAND THAT HAVE ISSUED 4 OR 5 MODIFICATION KITS NONE OF WHICH HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM. THE JEEP STEERS NORMALLY AT LOW SPEED OR ON STRAIGHT GLASS SMOOTH HIGHWAYS. HOWEVER ABOVE 40 MPH WITH ANY RHYTHMIC RIPPLE OR INDIVIDUAL POTHOLE A FRONT END HOPPING VIBRATION STARTS THAT CAN ONLY BE CONTROLLED BY STOPPING THE VEHICLE AND THEN PULLING BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I HAD A NON-DEALER GARAGE FIX IT ONCE AND JEEP REIMBURSED ME (BUT NO FORMAL RECALL). THE PROBLEM REAPPEARED IN SIX MONTHS AND I PRESSURED THE GARAGE INTO FIXING IT AGAIN. SOME TIME AFTER THAT THE PROBLEM REOCCURRED AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. ACCORDING TO AUTOMOTIVE LITERATURE JEEP AS ISSUED 4 OR 5 DIFFERENT ENGINEERING CHANGES FOR THE PROBLEM, BUT NONE HAVE PRODUCED A PERMANENT FIX. THIS TELLS ME THAT THE "JEEP DEATH WOBBLE" IS LESS IF A WEAR ISSUE, BUT RATHER AN ENGINEERING FAILURE. ONCE THE FRONT END STARTS TO BOUNCE THE TIRE IN CONTACT WITH THE ROAD WILL STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THEN THE TIRE ON THE OTHER SIDE COMES DOWN AND STEERS THE OTHER DIRECTION AND THE FRONT END BOUNCES SIDED-TO-SIDE WITH INCREASING VIOLENCE.

WHICH IT WASN'T I PULLED OUT AND ONLY A FEW MINUTES LATER IT HAPPENED SO I WENT BACK AND ASKED THEM IF THEY BOTHERED TO TEST DRIVE TO SEE IF IT WAS ACTUALLY FIXED AND THEY SAID NO. THIS BLEW MY MIND ESPECIALLY SINCE IT'S DANGEROUS. SO AFTER THEY PUT ON A NEW STABILIZER BAR I TOOK IT TO A NEW PLACE SINCE THAT WAS THE 4TH BAD EXPERIENCE I'VE HAD WITH THAT DEALERSHIP. THE BACK UP PLACE STARTED THEIR INSPECTION OF PROBLEM AND NOTICED THE STABILIZER WAS FAULTY AND HE STARTED WITH REPLACING THAT AGAIN. I GOT THE JEEP BACK TO ONLY FIND IT WAS STILL NOT FIXED. I'VE TAKEN THE JEEP BACK 5 TIMES TO HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS REPLACED IN THIS ORDER: STABILIZER BAR/WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND TIRE ROTATION, STABILIZER BAR AGAIN, ALL NEW SHOCKS, STEERING DAMPER/TIE ROD ENDS, AND TRACK BAR. $2000 WORTH OF WORK AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED. NOW I'M AT A POINT WHERE I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. THE MECHANIC IS STUMPED AND REPLACED THE ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. I FEEL LIKE THIS VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE SO NOW I'M STUCK WITH A LEMON OR SELL TO SOMEONE ELSE WHICH IS NOT RIGHT EITHER. I TOOK MY WIFE'S 2007 JEEP WRANGLER JK (4 DOOR AUTOMATIC) TO COURTHOUSE SHELL HERE LOCALLY TO GET THE STATE INSPECTION DONE (MY FIRST TIME FOR THIS SINCE PURCHASING IT ON JULY 1ST 2012 FROM CHECKERED FLAG TOYOTA IN GREENBRIER). I RECEIVED A CALL SAYING THAT THE HORN DID NOT WORK, WHAT DID I WANT TO DO? MY WIFE HAD SAID THAT IT HAD BEEN WORKING THE PREVIOUS WEEK. WELL, I SAID THAT I WANT IT FIXED. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THAT THE FUSE IN THE FUSE-BOX WAS NOT GETTING ANY POWER AND THEY NEEDED MORE TIME TO TROUBLESHOOT IT, SO THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT, THEY THEN INCORRECTLY SAID IT WAS A SIMPLE RELAY WHICH THEY WOULD ORDER AND RECEIVE LATER THAT SECOND DAY, AND THEY FINALLY FIGURED OUT THAT THE AIR BAG AND THE HORN WERE INCAPACITATED DUE TO A FAULTY $269 AIRBAG CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY WHICH HAD TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED FROM A DEALERSHIP, SO THEY ENDED KEEPING IT OVER THE WEEKEND, THE STEERING WHEEL HAD BEEN DISASSEMBLED AND WOULD COST MORE IN LABOR TO REASSEMBLE. ANOTHER OPTION GIVEN THAT HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT HE COULD RUN A JUMPER WIRE TO A PUSHBUTTON SWITCH TO MAKE THE HORN WORK BUT THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT BE GUARANTEED TO FUNCTION AS NEEDED IN AN ACCIDENT. I MADE THE SAFE DECISION TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. I WAS QUITE UPSET THOUGH TO HAVE TO DISH OUT $389.75 TOTAL FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I HAVE THE RECEIPT TO SHOW IT IN THE EVENT THAT JEEP EVER DECIDES TO RECALL THAT FLIMSY AND UNSAFE ASSEMBLY. THERE SEEMS TO BE MANY COMPLAINTS LODGED REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE ONLINE. THEY SPECIFICALLY SAID THAT THE MOST WEAR WAS ON THE TIE RODS AND FRONT TRACK BAR IN WHICH WILL CAUSE THE GEOMETRY OF THE STEERING TO BE THROWN OFF. THEY CALLED IT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AND THAT IT WAS COMMON IN THESE JEEPS. I TRULY THINK THAT JEEP NEEDS TO OPEN A RECALL FOR THESE PARTS ( FRONT TRACK BAR/ TIE ROD ASSEMBLY) BEFORE SOME ONE IS KILLED! THEY NEED TO BE FORCED TO GET TO THE ROOT OF THIS AND REIMBURSE PEOPLE FOR THE REPAIRS AND LABOR TIME IT TAKES TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THIS. AS I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE ENTRANCE TO THE BALTIMORE HARBOR TUNNEL, I HIT A BUMP AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY ON MY JEEP WRANGLER. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND SHOOK VIOLENTLY. I HAD NO PLACE TO STOP, A BUS WAS BEHIND ME, AND I HAD TROUBLE KEEPING MY JEEP IN ONE LANE. SINCE THERE WAS NO PLACE TO PULL OVER, I SLOWED DOWN AND WHEN I REACHED A SPEED BETWEEN 15 TO 20 MILES PER HOUR, THE SHAKING STOPPED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON. DURING MY TRIP THAT DAY, I HAD THREE MORE EPISODES OF VIOLENT SHAKING AS I HIT BUMPS IN THE ROAD WHEN I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 50 AND 60 MILES PER HOUR. I HAD RECENTLY READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR JEEP WRANGLERS, ALTHOUGH I HAD NEVER EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM BEFORE. MY JEEP IS A 2007 4-DOOR WRANGLER WHICH ONLY HAS 10,400 MILES ON IT BECAUSE I USUALLY KEEP IT GARAGED AT A BEACH HOME IN DELAWARE AND I USE IT ONLY DURING SUMMER WEEKENDS. THE JEEP IS A STOCK MODEL WITH NO AFTER MARKET MODIFICATIONS. I HAD DRIVEN IT HOME TO MARYLAND TO HAVE A DEALER CHECKUP BEFORE I RETURNED THE JEEP TO THE BEACH. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED ON MY THIRD TRIP AFTER THE DEALER SERVICE BUT IT WAS MY FIRST TRIP DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. AFTER FIGHTING WITH JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAD TO PAY FOR A SET OF RECOMMENDED UPGRADED WRANGLER SILENT ARMOR TIRES. JEEP "STRONGLY SUGGESTED" THAT I DO THIS EVEN THOUGH MY OLD TIRES, ORIGINAL JEEP WRANGLER TIRES, WERE IN GOOD CONDITION. JEEP REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE TIRES EVEN THOUGH IT ACKNOWLEDGED THE DEATH WOBBLE HAD WORN PATTERNS IN THE OLD TIRES. JEEP PUT IN A MOPAR STABILIZER, AND INSISTED THIS WOULD CURE THE MANUFACTURING DEFECT. TWO WEEKS AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE NEW TIRES AND NEW STABILIZER/DAMPER BY THE AUTHORIZED JEEP SERVICE PROVIDER, THE DEATH WOBBLE RECURRED. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THE DEATH WOBBLE WAS REPLICATED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO DROVE THE WRANGLER WHILE I WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. AFTER HAGGLING, JEEP AGREED TO REPLACE THE STABILIZER. THIS IS STILL IN THE PROCESS OF BEING RESOLVED. SEVERAL THINGS TO REMEMBER: (1) CALL JEEP, REGARDLESS OF THE YEAR OF YOUR VEHICLE OR WARRANTY STATUS. BECAUSE OF THE SEVERITY OF THIS ISSUE, THE SERVICE CENTER SAID THEY WILL NOT "TEST DRIVE" THE JEEP AFTER THIS WORK IS COMPLETE BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO PUT THEIR EMPLOYEES LIVES AT RISK. THERE IS SOME KIND OF APPARENT HARMONIC OSCILLATION THAT IS BEING ESTABLISHED FOR IT TO BE AS VIOLENT AND SUSTAINED AS IT IS. I INITIALLY REPORTED THIS TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP IN 2008, AFTER THE STEERING STABILIZER BRACKET BROKE OFF THE FRONT AXLE OF THE JEEP. I WAS TOLD THAT MY PROBLEMS WERE BECAUSE THE LIFT KIT THAT WAS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE WAS NOT A MOPAR APPROVED KIT. JEEPS RESOLUTION WAS FOR ME TO PURCHASE A NEW FRONT AXLE AT MY COST AND REPLACE THE LIFT KIT THAT WAS ON THE VEHICLE. THE LIFT WAS PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED AND IS ONE OF THE TOP KITS ON THE MARKET. SINCE THIS TIME, I HAVE REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER ABOUT EVERY 10K-12K MILES. EACH TIME THE I DO, THIS REDUCES THE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. EACH TIME I HAVE DISCUSSED THE ISSUE WITH A JEEP SERVICE CENTER, I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS A LIFT ISSUE AND NOT JEEP'S PROBLEM. FROM THE MANY COMPLAINTS THAT I CONTINUE TO READ ON JEEP FORUMS IN WHICH PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE, I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION/STEERING SYSTEM ON THE JK. MY 2007 JEEP UNLIMITED SAHARA HAS THE "DEATH WOBBLE." OCCURRED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. MECHANIC COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT, BUT PRESCRIBED TIRE INFLATION. PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL ONE WEEK AGO. CAN BE EASILY REPLICATED BY GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP AT ABOUT 25 MPH AND TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT SHARPLY. ALTERNATIVELY, JUST TRAVELING ABOVE 40-45 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, ESPECIALLY ON A CURVE, WILL REPLICATE. IF ANY OTHER JEEP DRIVER HAS THIS PROBLEM, THE ONLY WAY TO PROTECT YOURSELF IS TO BRAKE SLOWLY, GET OFF THE ROAD AND DRIVE UNDER 40 MPH...AND MUCH SLOWER WHILE TURNING EVEN ON SIDE STREETS. IF YOU MUST DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY, STAY IN THE SLOW LANE SO THAT YOU CAN EXIT TO THE SHOULDER WITH RELATIVE SAFETY, AND ENGAGE YOUR HAZARD LIGHTS. WHILE DRIVING ON A SECONDARY ROAD AT 50 MPH, I CROSSED A BUMP IN THE ROAD WHERE A CULVERT HAD BEEN REPLACED. THE BLACKTOP WAS REPLACED ON THE ROAD AND NO VISIBLE OBSTRUCTIONS WERE NOTICED. THE JEEP STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY. I THOUGHT I HAD BLOWN A TIRE OR A BALL JOINT HAD FAILED. I CAME TO A STOP AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND ME, FEARING I'D GET REAR-ENDED MAKING A STOP SO SUDDENLY. I GOT OUT OF THE JEEP TO CHECK THE TIRES, ETC AND NOTHING LOOKED OUT OF PLACE - NO FLAT TIRES, NO SIGN OF JOINTS FAILING. I GOT BACK IN THE JEEP AND SLOWLY STARTED DRIVING AGAIN. THE DEALER WITH WHOM I HAVE MY JEEP SERVICED HAS ACKNOWLEDGED HEARING ABOUT A FRONT END SHIMMY BUT NO DEATH WOBBLE (FAIROAKS CHRYSLER, DODGE JEEP). THEY SUGGEST REPLACING THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR WITH A "HEAVY DUTY" ONE AND SAID IT WILL FIX THE ISSUE ($660.00). IRONICALLY, THE "HEAVY DUTY" STABILIZER APPEARS TO BE STOCK ON MODELS BEG. WITH THE 2010 MODEL YEAR OR AT A MINIMUM THEY HAVE CHANGED THE CONFIGURATION AND PLACEMENT OF THE STABILIZER WHICH INDICATES TO ME THEY (CHRYSLER/JEEP) CLEARLY RECOGNIZED THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE REBALANCED AND THEN REPLACED THE TIRES, AND HAVE HAD THE FRONT SUSPENSION CHECKED -- EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE IN ORDER, AND NO MECHANIC CAN FIGURE OUT THE TRUE "FIX". MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER 2 DOOR DEVELOPED A VIOLENT SHAKE WHEN I WOULD HIT A BUMP OR GO OVER RAILROAD TRACKS AT SPEEDS AROUND 15 MPH TO 25 MPH. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JERK LEFT AND RIGHT, ALMOST TO THE POINT THAT I COULD NOT MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE STEERING WHEEL OR THE VEHICLE. I COULD FEEL THE FRONT WHEEL SHAKING BACK AND FORTH. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT WOULD BE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP. AFTER A GREAT DEAL OF DIAGNOSING THIS ISSUE, I REMOVED THE FRONT TRACTION BAR AND NOTICED THAT THE BOLT HOLES ON BOTH THE FRAME AND AXLE BRACKETS THAT SECURE THE TRACTION BAR HAD BECOME ELONGATED. DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING OUT OF WARRANTY, I TOOK IT TO A WELDING SHOP. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE TO WELD A HEAVY DUTY WASHER ON BOTH SIDES OF EACH MOUNTING BRACKET TO SECURE THE MOUNTING BOLTS. THE WELDING SHOP ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE A PERMANENT FIX, BUT MAY LAST FOR A WHILE. THEY ALSO INFORMED MY THAT THE METAL BRACKETS APPEARED TO BE MADE OF WEAK METAL AND THE BOLTS ARE GRADE 8. THEY SAID THIS EXPLAINS THAT THE BRACKET IS WEAKER THAN THE BOLT AND THAT IS WHY THE BRACKETS GAVE WAY. AFTER THE WASHERS WERE WELDED ON THE BRACKETS, THE SHAKING HAS GONE AND HAS NOT RETURNED. THIS WAS A STOCK JEEP BOUGHT NEW WITHOUT ANY AFTER-MARKET ALTERATIONS WITH ONLY 52K MILES. I TOOK IT INTO MIDAS, AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW STEERING STABILIZER. THEY REPLACED IT, AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, AND THEY REPLACED TRACKBAR, BUT IT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BACK TO MIDAS, AND THEY PUT ANOTHER NEW STABILIZER, STILL HAD THE PROBLEM WITH EVER-INCREASING FREQUENCY. I PUT NEW TIRES ON THE CAR, AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR ABOUT 20K MILES. AT 73K, THE PROBLEM STARTED AGAIN. THIS TIME I TOOK IT THE JEEP DEALER. THEY KNEW WHAT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" WAS, AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK EVERYTHING. THEY REPORTED BACK THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE COMPONENTS, AND SUGGESTED I GET THE TIRES BALANCED AGAIN. I GOT THE TIRES BALANCED AND TOOK IT BACK A WEEK LATER TO THE DEALER AS THE PROBLEM WAS HAPPENING WITH MORE FREQUENCY, AND NOW WAS OCCURRING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45-55 MPH. I SUGGESTED A PARTICULAR PATCH OF HIGHWAY FOR A TEST DRIVE. THEY CALLED ME BACK AND SAID, "THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG." THEY THEN WORKED WITH CHRYSLER TO IDENTIFY AND "SOLVE" THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE TIRE RODS AND JOINTS. THREE DAYS LATER I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM AGAIN, AND THEN AGAIN, AND AGAIN. I HAVE SPENT APPROXIMATELY $1400 TO "FIX" THIS PROBLEM, AND IT CONTINUES TO PERSIST. DO AN ONLINE SEARCH OF "DEATH WOBBLE" AND YOU'LL FIND ENTRY AFTER ENTRY AND EVEN VIDEOS. I'M REALLY WORRIED THAT ONE OF THESE TIMES WHEN I AND FORCED TO QUICKLY SLOW DOWN AND HEAD TO THE SHOULDER, I'M GOING TO END UP REAR ENDED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER.

WHILE DRIVING NORTH AT 65MPH IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A THREE LANE (NORTHBOUND)FREEWAY, A SMALL BUMP WAS ENCOUNTERED AND THE STEERING COLUMN SHOOK VIOLENTLY UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A COMPLETE STOP, STILL IN THE MIDDLE LANE. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A STEERING DAMPER PROBLEM ( A KNOWN "TECHNICAL RECALL") AND A "WEAK DAMPER" (PART # 02152001) WAS REPLACED WITH A "HEAVY-DUTY" STEERING DAMPER (PART # 52060058AE). THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TODAY AND DRIVEN WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS ACCIDENT/INJURY BUT DID NOT. THE DRIVER IS NOT AWARE THAT JEEP HAS EVERY ISSUED A RECALL CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER IN HER VEHICLE. SHE ALSO NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKE ACCESSIBILITY. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE DEALER KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE WEEKS AND DROVE IT FOR 300 MILES; HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE TWO RECALLS ON HER VEHICLE, WHICH WERE CORRECTED BY THE DEALER. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V291000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WAS MOST CLOSELY RELATED TO THE RECENT FAILURE. THE DEALER OFFERED THE CONTACT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THEIR LOT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,513 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 5,000.

FOLLOW UP ON INCIDENT #10225339 WOBBLE IN THE FRONT END WAS BAD CONTROL ROD. DEALER ORDERED PART TO FIX IT ON APRIL 21ST AND I HAD AN ACCIDENT ON APRIL 22. MINOR DAMAGE TO MY JEEP. REPORTED TO CHRYSLER AND THE REFUSED TO REPAIR DAMAGE TO MY JEEP WHICH WAS CAUSED BY A FAULTY PART. "INSPECTOR FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE SUBJECT VEHICLE'S STEERING/SUSPENSION SYSTEM." THE JEEP DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PROBLEM 4 DAYS PRIOR TO THE INVESTIGATION AT MY HOUSE. CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THE DECISION IS FINAL THAT THEY WOULD MAKE A NOTE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PRIOR TO THE INVESTIGATION. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY AFTER HE RAN OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE STEERING DAMPNER CAUSED THE FAILURE AND THEY MADE THE REPLACEMENT. APPROXIMATELY SIX MONTHS LATER THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. AS OF MARCH 18, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 26,600. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED THE FOLLOWING DAY WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR. HE FURTHER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE TIRE PRESSURE. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS A FIVE SECOND DELAY WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER AND RADIO WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE ANY OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 900 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,702.

APPROX. 3 WEEKS AFTER WE PURCHASED OUR NEW 2007 JEEP WRANGLER WE EXPERIENCED A PREMATURE ENGAGEMENT OF THE ESP SYSTEM UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AT A SPEED OF 35MPH. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE DUE TO AUTOMATIC BRAKING AND SHUT DOWN OF THROTTLE. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER SERVICE AND THEY REPLACED 3 LEAKING BRAKE CALIPERS. APPROX. 2 WEEKS LATER WE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WHILE EXITING THE INTERSTATE AT A LOW SPEED. WE IMMEDIATELY RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER SERVICE AND THEY REPLACED THE REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. AGAIN, 1 WEEK LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE EXITING THE INTERSTATE. CHRYSLER SERVICE REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL ANGLE SENSOR. THE 4TH INCIDENT OCCURRED 2 WEEKS LATER WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CANNOT DUPLICATE OR REPAIR THE PROBLEM. WE FILED A LEMON LAW CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER THAT IS CURRENTLY UNDER SETTLEMENT. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY WILL BE REPLACING THE VEHICLE AND THE PAPERWORK IS BEING PROCESSED.
