Your Jeep is experiencing gas overflow from the fuel system, which wastes fuel and is bad for the environment. Although your 2007 Wrangler was built before the official recall date range (March 2007–March 2008), you're having the same problem that the recall was designed to fix. The issue appears to be related to a faulty inlet check valve in the fuel system. This will likely require replacement of the fuel inlet check valve to stop the overflow.

Your fuel tank is spitting gas back out while you're filling it, forcing you to barely squeeze the pump handle. Filling up takes much longer than normal — sometimes 5 minutes just to add $20 worth of gas. In cold weather, this becomes especially frustrating since you're standing outside trying to pump while getting splashed with gasoline. This creates both a health hazard and a fueling inconvenience.

When refueling your 2007 Jeep Wrangler, gasoline spews out of the fuel filler neck instead of flowing into the tank normally. The dealer and manufacturer both declined to address it since the vehicle is out of warranty and there's no active recall. The issue started appearing around 130,000 miles. This likely involves inspecting or replacing the fuel filler neck assembly or internal check valve to stop the backup.

THIS VEHICLE FREQUENTLY EXPERIENCES FUEL "SPIT-BACK" ON FILLING. IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN 10/06, FIVE MONTHS BEFORE THE DATE IN JEEP'S LIFETIME FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT EXTENDED GUARANTY FOR SPIT-BACK. ALSO, THE TANK BEGAN LEAKING AFTER EVERY FILL UP. IT LEAKED ON THE GROUND AND/OR WITH GAS FUMES PRESENT UNTIL THE TANK LEVEL GOT BELOW 1/2 TANK THE LEAK SOURCE WAS WHERE THE FUEL PUMP IS INSERTED INTO THE TOP OF TANK. THE IRON CLAMPS AND LOCK RING FOR THE FUEL PUMP ARE LOCATED IN A DEPRESSED "BOWL" AT THE TOP OF THE TANK. WATER ACCUMULATES AND REMAINS IN THE BOWL CAUSING THE LOCK RING AND CLAMPS TO RUST. THE RUST EXPANDS AND CRACKS THE PLASTIC THAT THE FUEL PUMP IS MADE OF. THE REPAIR REQUIRES REPLACING THE FUEL TANK, LOCK RING, AND FUEL PUMP. IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING PROBLEM AND THESE CONDITIONS CAUSE SERIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY PROBLEMS. I INFORMED JEEP (CASE NUMBER 30126422) ON 9/15/16 AND THEY DECLINED TO DO ANYTHING. I HAVE SPENT $1,019.60 ON EMERGENCY AND PERMANENT REPAIRS. PHOTOS OF THE TANK AS IT WAS REMOVED FROM THE JEEP SHOWING "THE BOWL" AND RUST, RUSTED CLAMPS, AND CRACKED FUEL PUMP ARE ATTACHED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I CAN PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.

PAID TO HAVE DEALERSHIP ORDER AND INSTALL A NEW TANK ONLY TO FIND THE "NEW TANK HAS CRACK AT ROLLOVER VALVE," HAD TO ORDER A SECOND REPLACEMENT FUEL TANK, INSTALLED WITH NO PROBLEMS NOTED. HEAVY SMELL OF RESIDUAL FUEL IN THE GARAGE CONTINUED TO PERSIST TO THE POINT WHERE WE HAVE TO LEAVE THE GARAGE OPEN TO VENT THE FUMES FOR FEAR OF IGNITION. COULD NOT VISUALLY IDENTIFY ANY FUEL LEAK. ALL THE WHILE HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS COMING OFF AND ON POINTING TO EMISSIONS AND FUEL SYSTEM. ANOTHER TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP 07/2015, PULLED CODE P0406, STATED "COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING AT THIS TIME." HEAVY GAS SMELL CONTINUES TO GET WORSE. 07/2016 TOOK JEEP TO MECHANIC, PULLED CODES P0456 AND P0486, FOUND THE FUEL TANK VENT TUBE WAS CRACKED AGAIN, NEEDED A NEW FUEL TANK AND EGR VALVE. BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. TANK IS OUT OF WARRANTY, HAVE TO REPLACE THE 22 MONTH OLD FUEL TANK AGAIN. THE FUEL SYSTEM HAS HAD CONSISTENT PROBLEMS FROM INCEPTION. THE HEAVY GAS ODOR AND CRACKED FUEL TANKS POSE A SERIOUS LIFE SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE A VEHICLE AND/OR A RESIDENCE CATCHES FIRE. THE CONTINUOUS EXPOSURE TO GAS VAPORS ALONE IS SERIOUS CONCERN DUE TO THE CARCINOGENIC NATURE OF FUEL AND ITS VAPORS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE IN VARIOUS JEEP FORUMS ONLINE, THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A SINGULAR EVENT AND IS ACTUALLY QUITE COMMON. MANY JEEP ENTHUSIASTS ARE DIY'ERS AND ARE MODIFYING/JURY RIGGING THE VENT TUBE THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF PAYING FOR A REPLACEMENT TANK, WHICH MEANS THERE ARE A LOT OF JEEPS CAUSING HEIGHTENED EMISSIONS AND POSE FURTHER SAFETY CONCERNS THAT ARE GOING UNREPORTED AND THAT YOU ARE UNAWARE OF.

LEFT IT OVERNIGHT AND GOT A CALL THE NEXT DAY WHERE THEY HAD FOUND THE PROBLEM AND A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS WRONG (UNRELATED TO THE PROBLEM) I APPROVED THE FIXES AND AFTER $677.00 LATER DROVE OFF THE LOT. THE ONLY THING I CAN SEE ON THE INVOICE THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM IS A LINE THAT READS "CLEANER-FUELSYSTEM" AND HAS A $59.00 PART AND A $106.00 LABOR CHARGE. ON JANUARY 13TH 2013 IT STARTS ACTING UP AGAIN. I TAKE IT BACK TO SAME DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND COMPLAIN THAT I'M NOT GOING TO COME IN EVERY MONTH AND PAY A $90.00 DIAGNOSTICS FEE FOR SOMETHING THEY SAID WAS FIXED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE OPERATING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, THE MOTOR FAILED. THERE WAS BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD UPON FAILURE. THE CONTACT MADE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. HE ALSO STATED THE FUEL TANK WAS DEFECTIVE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FUEL TANK SKID PLATE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.

MY CAR WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE OF ABOUT 20 DEGREES AND I HAD 1/4 TANK OF GAS. WHEN I WENT TO START THE CAR IT WOULDN'T TURN ON. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON, BUT THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OVER. MY RADIO AND LIGHTS WORKED FINE. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED IN A YEAR AND 2 MONTHS. THE TWO PRIOR TIMES, I COASTED DOWN TO A FLAT AREA AND THE CAR STARTED. TONIGHT IT DIDN'T.
