The lug bolts that hold the tires on are swollen in place and cannot be removed without breaking them. As a result I cannot get the tires off of my vehicle. To remove the tires I have to take the vehicle to a dealership where they have to break the bolts to get the tires off. The jeep dealership told me this was a common problem with jeeps and Chryslers because the factory installs lug bolts with caps on them which are prone to swelling and prevent the tires from being removed. If I had gotten a flat tire I would have been stranded as the tires cannot be removed due to the swelling of the bolts. This is obviously very dangerous as it results in people being stranded on the side of the road because the tire cannot be removed to put on a spare. To fix this problem and prevent it from reoccurring I now have to buy 20 new lug bolts that are not capped and take my car to the dealership where they have special tools to break the lug bolts and remove the tires. This is also causing financial hardship as the new uncapped lug bolts cost $204 and the labor to remove the tires is $312. These capped lug bolts are defective because they are known to be prone to swelling and locking the tires in place. As such this is a dangerous factory defect and these capped bolts should not be used.

I HAVE A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE IT HAS OVER 100,000 MILES OVER IT I JUST RECENTLY HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICE WHICH WAS NO MORE THAN FLUID CHANGE. RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING TO A RESTAURANT TO PICK UP SOME DINNER THE PARKING BRAKE SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON YELLOW INDICATION CAME ON I WAS JUST DRIVING NORMAL WEATHER NO SNOW NO RAIN SITTING IN LINE AT THE DRIVE-THRU. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT TO PLACE IT IN PARK AND TO SEE IF I COULD RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE AS THE PARKING BRAKE INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON. ONCE I PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK THE EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WILL NOT RELEASE. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY HOUSE WHICH IS LESS THAN A MILE AWAY CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY JUST KEPT ASKING FOR CODES THERE WAS NO CODES TO BE GIVEN. I HAVE TRIED MANY SOLUTIONS INCLUDING OF DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY PULLING THE FUSES I HAVE PULLED THE BRAKE MODULE FROM THE BACK NOW THAT THERE WAS A LITTLE MOISTURE IN THERE. I TRIED IT OUT AND RIDE IT LET IT SIT A DAY OR TWO. THE BRAKE WILL NOT RELEASE. LOCAL DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO BRING IT IN FOR AN EXPENSIVE DIAGNOSIS. AFTER JACKING UP THE VEHICLE MYSELF I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT IT WAS ONLY THE DRIVER SIDE THAT WILL NOT RELEASE.I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IF I JUST ROCKED IT BETWEEN REVERSE AND DRIVE THAT IT WOULD RELEASE. IT DID RELEASE ONCE BUT I LITERALLY HAD TO DRIVE WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON UNTIL IT DID LET'S NOT DO THAT AGAIN. I REPLACE THE MODULE WITH ONE I FOUND ONLINE FROM ANOTHER JEEP CHEROKEE AND IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. LOCAL DEALERSHIPS HAVE NO IDEA HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT WAS NO HELP WHATSOEVER

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS OFF AN EXIT RAMP, THE CONTACT CLIPPED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE ON A CURB. AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER SIDE RIM FRACTURED, WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE IMMOBILE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE TIRE FRACTURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. DRIVING DOWN A SMOOTH WELL TRAVELED DIRT ROAD WHEN THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF THE CAR WITH NO NOTICE. HAD 2 SECONDS OF ODD SENSATION AND THEN THE WHEEL WAS OUTRUNNING MY CAR. FOUND 3 FAILED LUG BOLTS WITHIN 1/8TH OF A MILE. THREADS STRIPPED OUT AND HAD EXCESS METAL MATERIAL IN THEM AS WELL, NOT NO BREAKAGE OR SHORTENING OF LUGS. BRAKE ROTORS WAS LOOSE AND MOVABLE BY HAND BUT I DON'T KNOW IF THAT WAS PRIOR OR DUE IMPACT AND DRAGGING ON THE GROUND. *TR

I PURCHASED JEEP NEW ON 12/31/2013, WITHIN A FEW WEEKS I NOTICED WHEN I TURNED THE WHEELS TO THE RIGHT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING, WITHIN A FEW WEEKS WHEN I TURNED TO THE LEFT THE SHAKING WAS HAPPENING, THEN I NOTICED UPON TAKE OFF THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE THE WHEELS WERE SHAKING OR WOBBLING. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FINALLY GOT IT IN TO BE LOOKED AT IN JUNE, THEY TOLD ME THE FRONT AXLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS DONE ON JULY 9TH (I THINK THAT IS THE RIGHT DATE), WITHIN TWO WEEKS IT STARTED THE SAME THING AGAIN, I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP LAST WEEK AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRONT AXLES WERE THE PROBLEM AND THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THEM. I JUST GOT BACK FROM HAVING THE FRONT AXELS REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME AND THIS JEEP IS NOT EVEN A YEAR OLD. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND ANY PASSENGER THAT I MAY CARRY WITH ME. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE THIS CONCERN AS MY TWO CHILDREN LIVE STATES AWAY FROM ME AND MY HUSBAND PASSED AWAY IN NOVEMBER 2013, I AM TOTALLY RESPONSIBLE FORGETTING MYSELF TO AND FROM WORK AND VISITING MY CHILDREN. I PURCHASED MY NEW JEEP CHEROKEE ON 2/2/2014. FROM VERY SOON AFTER I BEGAN DRIVING IT, I WAS AWARE THAT THERE WAS AN UNUSUALLY HIGH AMOUNT OF NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END WHEN THE CAR WAS GOING MORE THAN 30 MPH OR SO; IT SOUNDED AS IF THE CAR HAD A PROPELLER. I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THE FOLLOWING DAY (I RESIDE ABOUT 35 MILES AWAY). AT FIRST, THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION NOISE, BUT IT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY DIAGNOSED AS A BAD WHEEL BEARING. AFTER A NEW BEARING WAS SHIPPED OVERNIGHT FROM DETROIT, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BEARING ON THE OTHER FRONT WHEEL WAS ALSO BAD AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. I AM CONTACTING NHTSA BECAUSE BAD BEARINGS ON BOTH FRONT WHEELS SUGGESTS TO ME THAT THERE IS MORE THAN COINCIDENCE INVOLVED, AND THAT OTHER NEW CHEROKEES MIGHT BE SIMILARLY AFFECTED IF A WHOLE PRODUCTION RUN OF DEFECTIVE BEARINGS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ON THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE. I AM AWARE THAT BAD WHEEL BEARINGS, IF IGNORED, CAN EVENTUALLY LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, BEARING SEIZURE, AND LOSS OF WHEELS AND/OR VEHICLE CONTROL. *TR
