Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 2113)
Air Bags →4 issues
Your 1999 Jeep Cherokee was included in an airbag safety recall, but both the manufacturer and dealer have been unable to locate the parts needed to complete the repair due to the vehicle's age. This leaves your airbag system in a potentially unsafe condition. Getting the necessary replacement airbag components may require contacting the manufacturer directly or sourcing parts through specialized suppliers.

Your airbag warning light came on while driving, and at the same time your instrument gauges stopped working properly. The vehicle wasn't taken to a mechanic or dealer to diagnose the problem. Fixing this will likely involve having a mechanic scan the airbag system for fault codes and checking the electrical connections related to both the airbag system and instrument cluster.

Your airbag warning light on the dashboard has been on continuously for over a year, and you're unsure why. You're concerned whether this is related to a Takata airbag recall and want to know how to verify your airbags' actual status. A diagnostic scan of your vehicle's airbag system will be needed to identify the specific fault code triggering the warning light.

Your 1999 Jeep Cherokee was part of a safety recall for airbags (Campaign 00V105000), but the dealership told you the replacement parts aren't available because of your vehicle's age. The manufacturer has been notified about the delay, and you haven't experienced an airbag failure yet, but your car remains unrepaired.

Engine →3 issues
Your engine stalls unexpectedly while driving at highway speeds, causing you to lose power and coast to the shoulder. This has happened repeatedly while in motion, creating dangerous situations where following traffic has had to brake suddenly. The stalling episodes continue even when parked, leaving you stranded. Fixing this will likely involve diagnosing the fuel system, ignition system, or engine control module to identify why the engine is shutting down.

Your engine keeps stalling while you're driving or stopped at idle, which creates a safety hazard. You've already replaced parts related to stalling issues, but the problem continues to occur. The engine may need a complete diagnostic to identify the root cause, which could involve fuel system components, ignition timing, or the engine control computer.

Your engine is stalling unexpectedly while driving at various speeds, and your check engine light comes on when it happens. You can restart the vehicle after it stalls, but the problem keeps recurring. A mechanic test-drove your vehicle but couldn't identify the cause. The issue likely involves diagnosing the check engine code and may require replacing spark plugs, fuel injectors, or the oxygen sensor.

Air Bags,fuel/propulsion System →2 issues
Your gas tank is leaking fuel. You noticed gasoline dripping from the gas tank cover when you stopped at a gas station to refuel. This is a fuel leak that needs prompt attention to prevent fuel loss and potential safety hazards.

Your 1999 Jeep Cherokee has two recalls on record that you may not have received notice for. There's an airbag recall (NHTSA #00V105000) and a separate recall for aftermarket Air Tex electric fuel pumps that may have been installed on your vehicle. You should contact a Jeep dealer or NHTSA directly to confirm which recalls apply to your specific car and what repair or replacement options are available.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your brake lines have become severely rusted and corroded while the vehicle sits. This is a serious safety issue since brake lines are essential for stopping your car. Both the dealer and manufacturer have been notified but the problem hasn't been diagnosed or repaired. The fix will require replacing the corroded brake lines with new ones.

Suspension,structure,wheels →1 issue
Your Jeep's frame and undercarriage have severe rust damage that's causing suspension control arms to detach from the frame, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. The rust is so extensive that the damaged control arms cannot be reattached to the corroded frame. Fixing this would require replacing rusted frame sections and welding in new support structures.

Seat Belts →1 issue
Your seat belt buckle is difficult to fasten and requires excessive force to unbuckle, making it unsafe and impractical to use. Additionally, the dashboard warning light and alarm don't activate when the belt is left unbuckled, so you won't get a safety reminder. The buckle mechanism appears to be worn or damaged and needs replacement or repair.

Air Bags, unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your airbag warning light stays on constantly, and your horn doesn't work. Both issues are caused by a failed clock spring, which is the component that connects your steering wheel to the airbag and horn systems. The clock spring will need to be replaced to restore both the horn function and turn off the airbag warning light.

Structure,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your Jeep has a plastic fuel tank mounted behind the rear axle that hangs below the bumper. If your car is hit from behind, this exposed position could potentially cause the tank to rupture and create a fire hazard. A protective hitch receiver can be installed to shield the fuel tank from rear-end impacts.

Electrical System,electronic Stability Control (esc),engine →1 issue
Your 1999 Jeep Cherokee has multiple safety and mechanical issues: the sensors are faulty, turn signals don't work, the serpentine belt assembly breaks while driving, the radiator overheats and smokes even with a full coolant level, the sunroof leaks water into the cabin and trunk, the trunk won't open, and the suspension no longer provides any bounce or support. The owner believes these issues make the vehicle unsafe and is requesting a recall.

Unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your vehicle is shutting off unexpectedly while you're driving, and this happens randomly regardless of speed or driving conditions. This is a serious drivability issue that could leave you stranded or create a safety hazard in traffic. The problem likely involves the ignition system, fuel delivery, or engine control components, and will require diagnostic testing to identify the specific cause.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your fuel pump failed, preventing your vehicle from starting. Even after replacing the battery, the vehicle still wouldn't start. A mechanic diagnosed the problem as potentially defective ground wires connected to the fuel pump, which could prevent the engine from receiving fuel. The repair will likely involve inspecting and replacing the fuel pump ground wires.

Power Train,seat Belts →1 issue
Your seat belt buckles are stuck and very difficult to unlatch — your child needs help removing the belt, and even adults struggle with the driver's side. Additionally, your transmission slips when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear when the engine is cold, but shifts normally once the vehicle has warmed up after driving a few miles. The seat belt buckles may need cleaning or replacement, and the transmission issue may require fluid service or internal transmission repair.

Seats →1 issue
Your driver's seat frame broke at two points around 137,000 miles, causing the seat to rock side to side when you enter or exit the vehicle and during sharp turns. Because the seat is no longer properly attached to the vehicle frame, it won't pass inspection and poses a safety concern while driving. The seat frame will need to be welded or replaced to secure it properly to the vehicle.

Steering,electrical System,wheels →1 issue
Your Jeep is having trouble starting—it cranks slowly like the battery is dead, but eventually starts if you press the gas pedal. You've already replaced the battery, but the problem continues. Once the engine is running, it works fine. Additionally, your truck pulls to the left while steering.
