Filed: Jan 2026

Your Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failed without any warning, causing your vehicle to suddenly lose all power and the ability to drive while traveling in winter conditions. This put you, your passengers, and other drivers on the road at serious risk. A certified Jeep dealer confirmed the PTU failure. Repairs will likely involve replacing the PTU assembly.

While driving your 2022 Jeep Cherokee, you heard a loud clunk and lost the ability to accelerate, though power intermittently returned for brief periods before failing again. The vehicle rolled backward even while in park until the emergency brake was engaged, forcing you to call a tow truck. The dealership identified a failed power transfer unit but cannot provide an estimated repair time, and the part is unavailable from Mopar, leaving your vehicle unable to be repaired for at least two weeks. Fixing this issue will require replacing the power transfer unit, which is a complex transmission component.

NHTSA #: 11700970

Filed: Jun 2025

Your power transfer unit (PTU) has failed internally, which means your 4-wheel drive system isn't working and your car may roll away even when parked in Park. The dealer says the replacement part is on backorder and could take months to arrive. This is a known issue that has affected this model since 2019.

NHTSA #: 11667360

Filed: Feb 2025

Your car started making grinding and thumping noises while driving on the parkway, then lost power and became unresponsive. Your dashboard lit up with warning lights, and a 'Service 4WD' message appeared. The transmission wouldn't respond to inputs, so you had to pull over and have the vehicle towed to a dealer. The dealer identified that your power transfer unit (PTU) needs replacement, but the part is currently backordered with no estimated arrival date.

Filed: May 2024

Your 2022 Cherokee experienced a sudden hard jolt while accelerating from a stop light, then began rolling backward uncontrollably and wouldn't shift into any gear. The dealership diagnosed a failed TPU (transmission power unit) that also damaged your rear differential, with repair costs in the thousands. You discovered that 2016-2017 Cherokees had a recall for this exact problem, and parts are currently unavailable due to manufacturing issues.

Your car's power transfer unit (PTU) — the component that distributes power to your wheels — may not be functioning properly. You're experiencing an issue with this part, though the exact problem isn't clearly identified. A technician will need to diagnose and repair or replace the faulty PTU.

Filed: Jan 2026

Your 4WD service light is on and your vehicle has fault code C14A7-97, which the dealer says requires replacing the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). This same issue prompted a recall for 2016-2019 Cherokee models, and you're requesting that your 2022 vehicle be included in that recall repair program.

NHTSA #: 11712766

Filed: Sep 2025

Your 4WD system warning light came on, and the dealership says your Power Transfer Unit (PTU) needs to be replaced. While the dealership says it's safe to drive, you've read that this problem can potentially cause loss of driving ability and the ability to shift into park — which is concerning for your daily highway commute. The replacement part is on backorder with no arrival date, leaving your vehicle in the shop indefinitely. Fixing this will require replacing the Power Transfer Unit, which is a major drivetrain component.

Filed: Jun 2025

Your 4WD system is displaying a service light and showing as unavailable, with clicking and grinding noises coming from the drivetrain. Diagnostic codes C1494 and C1A797 have been identified, indicating a problem with the 4WD system. The repair will likely involve inspecting the transfer case, drive shafts, or related 4WD components to identify what's causing the mechanical noise and system failure.

Your transmission suddenly downshifts when you press the accelerator at various speeds, and your dashboard shows "Service 4WD" and "Service Forward Collision Warning" messages intermittently. The problem is hard to reproduce and dealers have been unable to diagnose it, though a code reader detected issues with the Power Control Unit. Your vehicle has not been repaired despite multiple dealer visits.

Your 2022 Jeep Cherokee was involved in a crash at 60 MPH when another vehicle ran a stop sign and merged into traffic. Your vehicle stalled suddenly at a busy intersection with no warning lights or alerts to warn you beforehand. Your heated steering wheel suddenly became extremely hot with no way to adjust the temperature, causing minor burns on your hands. Your car occasionally smells like antifreeze and you've had to add antifreeze periodically, despite the vehicle only having 18,085 miles. Your mechanic suspects either a faulty oil cooler gasket or a cracked intake manifold. This issue has been present for at least a year or longer. A mechanic will need to inspect the oil cooler gasket and intake manifold to locate and repair the coolant leak.

Suspension1 issue
mediumSUSPENSION
Filed: Jun 2025

Your 2022 Cherokee started rattling at the right front suspension over rough roads at 18,000 miles. The dealer identified a broken right front strut and is replacing it under warranty, but you're concerned they're only replacing one strut instead of both — a common practice to maintain even wear and handling. You worry that pairing a new strut with your original 18,000-mile strut on the left could cause uneven suspension performance. The fix will involve installing a replacement right front strut, though you may want to discuss with the dealer about replacing both struts as a pair for balanced suspension geometry.

Visibility/wiper1 issue
mediumVISIBILITY/WIPER
Filed: May 2025

Your passenger side sun visor keeps falling out of its mounting hole due to a faulty clip design, creating a visibility and safety concern. The dealership confirmed this is a widespread issue across Chrysler vehicles. You can temporarily push the visor back in, but it won't stay secured. The repair will likely require replacing the visor clip assembly.

Your car makes a pumping or pulsing noise when accelerating to cruising speed, which started after you had your front brakes replaced a few months after purchase. The noise comes and goes intermittently, so it's not always present during diagnostics, and no warning lights have appeared. The mechanic may need to inspect the brake system components, electrical connections, or powertrain parts that could have been affected during the brake replacement.
