2017 Hyundai Tucson Transmission Problems

Issue was first noticed in October 2025 - there are roughly 70k miles on the vehicle. It is a 2017 vehicle, and has regular service (oil, inspection). There was a class action lawsuit for this issue (wylie v hyundai), which was settled prior to the purchase of the vehicle.

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson Limited 1.6L Turbo (with 7-speed EcoShift DCT) has ongoing transmission problems. The vehicle hesitates, jolts, and sometimes fails to accelerate from a stop, which creates a serious safety risk when entering traffic or crossing intersections. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the Hyundai dealership in Fairfield, CT.

While driving, the vehicle started knocking and jerking, lost power and began to run roughly. The check engine light initially flashed and then turned solid before the vehicle shut off. The next day, I took the vehicle to the dealership for a diagnostic after experiencing problems with knocking when the check engine light illuminated.

Greetings, I have had issues with the Hyundai Tucson 2017 I own for many months. Issues include among others an abnormal knocking noise from the engine, reduced engine power and/or hesitation, burning smell, oil leaking, and smoke coming out of the engine, misfires, and other issues.

The engine appears to have a malfunction, particularly related to acceleration and oil consumption. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle experiences sudden jerking during acceleration, which can lead to loss of control and increase the risk of a collision.

Vehicle doesn't want to accelerate when it is suppose to. Press on the gas pedal and it goes to the floor and when it does decide to accelerate it erratic. VERY scary and unsafe.

As I was turning a corner the transmission seemed to disengaged; when I attempted to accelerate the car would not respond. It felt as though the car had shifted into neutral even though it is an automatic transmission and I had not made any adjustment.

This car has a the 7 speed DCT. This transmission is VERY unsafe. I have been fighting with the transmission losing power and being jerky for the last year or so.

Excess Oil Consumption, Gear slipping, Dual Clutch, Fly Wheel, Oil found in the Turbo inlet, Clutch dust found in the transmission, Encouraged to just keep adding oil and drive the vehicle. Encouraged to drive the car when there was assumed to have contaminated transmission fluid.

When pressing on the accelerator pedal the Tucson jerks and hesitates and seems to almost turn of then after a few seconds will actually accelerate. This almost caused me to have an accident because it stalled when making a right turn.

My Hyundai Tucson beginning at 65,000 miles Began consuming more oil than normal. There was a transfer of title through a family member with the vehicle and was not aware that in that case the cars 100,000 mile warranty is no longer valid. It is then reduced to half that or 60,000, one of the 2.

I believe the transmission is to blame as many others have stated. Our Tucson, without notice, quickly accelerates which is sometimes a scary situation. This defect can easily cause an accident.

Powertrain: Vehicle losses power especially going up inclines or hills. This happened before and I spent over 4500 dollars on repair of a catalytic convertor that failed. This was Late may of 2022.

I recently took my car to the authorized mechanic and had them check on an issue I am experiencing. For some reason, my car frequently hesitates when I go from a complete stop/slow roll to accelerate. When on any hill (reversing or forward), in heavy bumper to bumper traffic, and in some intermittent situations, the vehicle experiences a loss of power. The scariest part of this is that the car jolts quickly once it finally "finds a gear" and decides to go. Seems like when the temperature reaches about 90 degrees transmission has a problem leaving a stop at a normal speed no matter h0w much gas pedal is applied it takes 5 to 10 seconds for the car to move foward at a regular speed almost like the old days when you try to take off in second or third gear in a stick shift.

B.the dct transmission completely disengages and there is no power to the vehicle, it just coasts for about 5 seconds and the vehicles slows down. It seems to happen after a turn and at slower speeds around 25 - 35 MPH. You push the gas pedal and nothing happens, the engine does not rev and you just coast (and slow down).

We bought a hyundai tucson SUV from hyundai of orange park jacksonville, florida 32244 back on november 2, 2017. The problem with this SUV is that it has a jerking and hesitation problem when you start out from 5 miles an hour until it gets up to speed. I leased a 2017 tucson intending to buy at the end. Over the past year and a half, with about 29,000 miles on it, I have had six different occasions where I pull out onto my busy 50 MPH road and the vehicle will not move. It's almost as if it had stalled or slipped into neutral, no matter how soft or hard you step on the gas.

Something is majorly wrong with how this vehicle shifts gears. When you slow down, or don't come to a complete stop for several seconds, the transmission doesn't down shift properly, causing a transmission slippage and an over revving of the engine, which results in a delay in acceleration. The dual clutch transmission (dct) hunts for correct gears on occasion creating hesitations and stalling effects. Several times (as many as 10+), starting from a dead stop at a light, the car will begin forward progress with normal depression of gas pedal.

As others have noted, the dct seems to have a severe problem when trying to quickly accelerate from a stopped position. The car will generally creep forward a few feet at a very slow crawl of 1-2 MPH, but will not actually take off until 3-5 seconds into pushing the pedal. This behavior of the car can cause you to be out in oncoming traffic for upwards of 5-7 seconds or longer.

The vehicle has a drive-by-wire system controlling the throttle and the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. In certain circumstances, the throttle pedal has no effect on the throttle whatsoever. The vehicle has a transmission (powertrain) malfunction that first appeared in July 2025, a few weeks after I purchased the vehicle and after the warranty had expired. At the time the issue began, the vehicle had well under 80,000 miles. - Kept regular 5K-6K oil changes since 2022 when I purchased the vehicle -Took the vehicle to a Hyundai dealership, multiple times, to ask about the engine stalling at a stop or slow turn, and/or jerking. -July '25 new oil change and flushed engine -October'25- no engine or oil lights. Engine seized and needs to be replaced.

I've taken the vehicle to several mechanics for engine-idling when turning, going up-hill. I've purchased new plugs, lines, engine cleaners, no-one can figure it out. The oil now has engine shavings even though the oil was recently changed.

My Hyundai’s replacement engine, installed under a recall a little over a year ago, is now failing again. Hyundai’s service department was the only shop to ever work on the engine. There is visible silicone drooping from the area where the head and block were torqued down — a defect hidden beneath the engine cover that isn’t removed during normal maintenance.

This unresolved issue has created serious safety risks. On two separate occasions, my vehicle lost power while crossing the Leo Frigo Bridge in Green Bay—an extremely dangerous scenario for both my family and other drivers. Most recently, within just ~40 miles of picking up the vehicle from service, the issue recurred.

Took my 2017 Hyundai Tucson 1.6t engine into the service center on 8/21 for a check engine light and Bluelink notification of "A possible condition with your Engine Control System has been detected" that came on Sunday 8/18. Service center diagnosed P0326 ($159.00) From the service center: We have pulled code P0326 for an issue with the knock sensor readings.

My engine began consuming oil at a faster rate. My miles per gallon decreased. Then while driving, my engine lost power, and then the check engine light came on without warning.

Appears to be an issue with the Dual Clutch Transmission. Makes the SUV jolt after starting, waiting in traffic/red light and/or randomly driving around. Speed is not a determine factor in causing this “jolt”, for it happens at any rate of speed.

Driving into work on Friday June 2, 2023 my engine started making a noise that got progressively worse as I got to work. The engine was knocking loudly and I was not comfortable driving it home. I called AAA and had the vehicle towed to a Hyundai Dealership.

I have had multiple instances where the car will not accelerate and can shutter or lurch when I press on the gas. to whom it may concern , I have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson that has really bad and scary engine and transmission issues , this car has had a recall to fix constant bucking of the engine at slow speeds and even after the recall it went right back to the same behavior and has now developed slow acceleration and has even attempted to stall on the highway during lane changes , it is the only car I have and I have had really difficult times with it and the dealership has once again told me that they have no loaners available and that they likely will need a few days to diagnose the issues if any.

Hyundai tucson 2.0l (nu gdi) is leaking engine oil between engine and transmision. Vehicle previously had the same condition and it was sent to dealership around november 2019, they removed the transmission and installed a new crankshaft oil seal. I have done a significant amount of research and found that the hyundai tucson has three potential problems that cause the issues with the stalling/low power on takeoff. I believe that part of it might be the transmission not engaging properly in 1st gear and that should be something they can fix with a computer update.

Vehicle stalled 2/21/2020 at a stop light and left me stranded resulting in a tow to the dealership. After lengthy process with hyundai corp and dealership, I was forced to purchase new engine since they claim my incident does not fall under warranty due to "outside influences" since hyundai did not want to own up to a design flaw that has now resulted in a recall of thousands of vehicles.

When driving in stop and go traffic, specifically on an incline, the transmission overheats and a burning/melting rubber smell is emitted from the engine. When climbing a long hill in slow moving traffic, the car displays a warning message saying that one should step on the break while on the steep incline.

I have taken my 2017 hyundai tucson sport fwd into southwest hyundai, 8800 lomas ne, albuqueque, nm for: turbo lulls before accelerating; vehicle hesitates when slowing, stopping then accelerating. This problem has gotten worse with vehicle jerking, chugging, stalling delayed acceleration when slowing down; turning corners; stopping; turning into intersection then accelerating.

The operator must depress the accelerator almost to the floor before there's any acceleration (and getting high rpms). I recently purchased vehicle and when checking recalls from my local Hyundai dealership I was advised that there was two previous attempts to have engine replaced due to knocking and it was denied this recalls is the 209 I escalated to Hyundai corporate and after taking to a Hyundai dealership and paying for a diagnostic test they advised car doesn't have oil pressure and the oil pump needed replaced and Hyundai corporate denied repairs saying this didn't pertain to recall 209 because my engine is a 1.6 liter and it was ok only to the 2.0 engines, I would like to report this and ask for help please.

The transmission failed, and it's only at 70k. This was only diagnosed AFTER being told that my dual clutch was faulty. I had that replaced, only to be told that my actuator was faulty and NOT the clutch, after haviing paid for the replacement.

Car is burning oil. Oil change done at 3k and no oil in vehicle at all. Transmission shakes violently on start up and first movement and slips shifting gears.

2017 hyundai tucson with dual clutch transmission hesitated to accelerate after stopping at a stop sign and turning right. When it finally did accelerate it was slow and unresponsive for a few seconds, causing cross traffic to brake behind me. The same hesitation and unresponsiveness can occur when going straight or turning left/right after coming to a stop.

Purchased 2017 tucson eco (1.6l turbo with dual clutch transmission (dct)) about 6 months ago. 2016 model year was recalled for dct throttle response issues. I have the same lack of throttle response with my vehicle.

There was a recall from 2016 tucson for a dual clutch gearbox issue. I am experiencing same issues with 2017. When I take my foot off the brake from a stop and allow the car to idle as slow speed the transmission and car sputters and creates hesitation and jerking when gas pedal is applied.

When the vehicle is at a stop or slowed speed and you go to accelerate there is a failure with the dual clutch and/or turbo engine transmission which delays you from accelerating at an expected speed. The car will hesitate when trying to engage from a stationary position. The engine also will spike the tachometer without increasing speed, creating a revving noise with no forward acceleration.

The dual-clutch transmission is incredibly dangerous, as it has an extreme delayed acceleration when coming off a complete stop or just intermittently while driving, in which the engine will redline in RPM. Parking lots are absolute misery as well, as the vehicle jerks heavily at low speeds.

Transmission does not consistently shift through gears. Under acceleration, it will sometimes shift from 1-2- neutral instead of going into 3rd gear. If you deaccelrate and then try to acelerate as when coming to a turn, the car has extreme hesitation and sometime will just rev to 3,000rpm without any movement...again like it is in neutral.

Car engine seized and lost ALL power going 60mph down the highway at night with my child in the back seat. I have poured quarts and quarts of oil in this vehicle because it burns oil at an alarming rate until it eventually runs dry and the engine seizes. This is extremely dangerous and luckily my child and I were able to drift to the side of the road without harm and injury.

Excessive oil consumption, Full synthetic Oil last less than 2000 miles. Transmission takes some time to respond when start driving from a stop. Car shake a bit.

I am writing to report a serious issue with my 2017 Hyundai Tucson SEL 2.0 that poses potential safety risks. The vehicle is consuming more than 4 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles, which is far beyond normal and acceptable levels. The car has approximately 166,000 miles on it and has been regularly maintained, including timely oil changes.

The car would hesitate to accelerate causing the engine to rev high and then take off. It had gotten progressively worse with no error codes detected. With a lack of code, nothing could be done.

When I'm stopped at a light and go to push on the gas, the vehicle doesn't move, then all of a sudden it just takes off. Next the exterior driver side door handle doesn't open I have to pull on it a few times then it opens, there's like a delay. EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission does not always engage after full stop and may not engage at low speeds (4-6 MPH). The vehicle to not always move when the accelerator pedal is pressed and may sputter until it finally engages but safety is jeopardized at intersections/stoplights where engine was asked to supply power and cuts out creating an otherwise unsafe scenario with oncoming traffic.

Transmission hesitates from the start of driving in motion

Loses power(lag) when accelerating after a stop. Turning at a stop light there was a lag for a couple seconds. Also when accelerating while going up a hill there was a power lag experienced.

Taking off from a stop the transmission will not engage and causes the motor to shutter. Then it will go into hit at a high RPM causing you to jump forward at a high rate of speed.

On multiple occasions, when accelerating from a stopped position, my car hesitates to move when pressing the gas pedal. In addition, the transmission struggles to find a gear resulting in a lack of power, engine revving and jerky movement of the vehicle when traveling at low and slow speeds.

Their is a very noticeable delay in acceleration of he vehicle after pressing the accelerator. Also, on several occasions pressing the accelerator results in the engine RPM's increasing but no acceleration of the vehicle. The vehicle accelerates initially and stops accelerating a few seconds later. My wife accelerated from a stop to turn left across oncoming traffic. Seconds after the car starts the turn is crossing the oncoming traffic it slows down prolonging the time you are vulnerable to being hit on the passenger side of the car.

At approximately 6:10 pm on wednesday 8/7/19, I was on an outlying road turning on a roundabout, I had slowed to approximately 15 MPH to enter the roundabout and was accelerating to exit it, when my 2017 hyundai tuscon spontaneously and without warning shut off. The car slowed and the screens went black. I was able to get to the shoulder before it stopped completely and turn my hazard lights on.

Vehicle will fail to accelerate at certain times from a complete stop on a city street. RPM can go as high as 4000 RPM's and the vehicle will not respond adequately, meaning I have been at an intersection and when making the turn,the vehicle may or may not respond to the acceleration I have given it.

While the vehicle is in drive, the vehicle has a habit of being hesitant while being given gas. For example, at a stop sign or traffic light, when I give the vehicle some gas to get going, it is unresponsive at that moment. If I give it a little more gas, the vehicle jolts forward as if I floored it.

Dual clutch transmission will not backup on a incline. They just sit there or coast forward. Hyundai states this is normal for the transmission and there is no fix for this issue.

Vehicle won't accelerate from a stop. When stopped and the gas pedal is depressed, acceration is extremely slow and after 3-5 seconds of depressing the pedal, the vehicle will finally accelerate as normal. It occurs with and without air conditioning on.

As reported by some others, after coming to a complete stop at an intersection, when I press on the accelerator, the RPM's rev up to over 4000, but the vehicle barely moves forward for about 5 seconds. This seems to happen during periods of high outside temperatures and only sporadically. This describes the exact same conditions that hyundai recalled the 2016 tucsons for in september of 2016.

Stopped at a traffic light. When light turned green, gas pedal was pushed and the car would not move much at all. The vehicle was in drive and the RPM's increased but the car would not accelerate up to any speed.

During morning with in first few minutes the transmission gives up. Pushing the gas paddle only revs up the engine. The car does not move.

On thursday, jan 12th, after backing out of my driveway in my 2 week old 2017 tucson, I put the car in drive and it didn't move. I took my foot of the gas then pressed again and it sputtered forward as if it wasn't getting gas. I stopped, put the car in park, waited a minute, then put it back in drive.
