Open Safety Recalls (6)
NHTSA Campaign: 18V170000
Component: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The second row outboard seats have a lever to fold the seatback and slide the seat forward to access the third row seats. Due to a manufacturing error, if the walk-in release lever is used to fold a fully reclined left outboard seatback forward, the seatback may stay in the unlocked position (free-folding) or unexpectedly unlock without engaging the walk-in or recliner lever.
Risk: An unlocked second row left outboard seatback increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant during a crash.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will confirm proper operation of the second row left outboard seatback, and install a support bracket to the seat recliner. If the seatback cannot lock, dealers will replace the seatback frame assembly. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began May 7, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is X0R.
NHTSA Campaign: 17V725000
Component: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2011-2017 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The second row outboard seats can slide sideways to one of two positions. If a seat is placed between either of the two positions when attaching the seat to the vehicle floor, the seat will not latch properly to the seat striker, allowing the seat to tip forward unexpectedly during braking.
Risk: If the seat tips forward during braking, it can increase the risk of injury.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a bracket to the second row outboard floor strikers, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2018. Owners may contact American Honda Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is S0G.
NHTSA Campaign: 16V933000
Component: SEATS:MID/REAR ASSEMBLY
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Odyssey vehicles manufactured August 17, 2010, to October 1, 2015. The affected vehicles have second row outboard seats that have a release lever that allows the seats to move for easier access to the third row of seats. This release lever may remain in the unlocked position allowing the seats to move unexpectedly.
Risk: An unlocked second row outboard seat increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant during a crash.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional bracket and spring to both second row outboard seats, free of charge. Interim letter has been mailed, and a second notification will be sent . Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is KD5.
NHTSA Campaign: 16V417000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2015 Acura MDX 2WD and MDX 4WD vehicles, 2016 Acura MDX 4WD vehicles, 2015-2016 Honda Odyssey vehicles, and 2016 Honda Pilot 2WD and 4WD vehicles. The affected vehicles have fuel tanks that were manufactured with insufficient welds which may separate and allow fuel to leak out.
Risk: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel tanks, free of charge. Owners may contact Honda/Acura customer service at 1-888-234-2138. The recall began on July 29, 2016. Honda's numbers for this recall are KA9 (Honda vehicles) and KB0 (Acura vehicles).
NHTSA Campaign: 23V858000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Your 2015 Honda Odyssey may experience engine misfires and loss of power due to piston ring deterioration and oil fouling — a condition Honda has acknowledged through a warranty extension. You had this problem repaired with a spark plug replacement before the warranty extension was issued, but Honda is refusing to reimburse you because you didn't replace the piston rings or engine block as specified in their campaign. Honda says they won't perform the covered repair unless the misfire code is currently active, which means you may need to wait for the problem to happen again — potentially after the warranty coverage expires.

Your engine has piston ring deterioration that causes misfires, which Honda initially offered a warranty extension to cover. However, Honda denied your claim for repair reimbursement. This is a safety issue because your car can't accelerate properly to merge onto highways safely. The repair will likely involve removing the engine to replace the damaged piston rings.

Your check engine light started flashing while driving at night, and a mechanic found a misfire in cylinder #1. The dealer diagnosed that both your spark plugs and piston rings needed replacement to fix the problem. The repairs were completed, but Honda determined the failure wasn't covered under warranty.

Your engine developed a rough idle and poor acceleration without warning while stopped at a traffic light, with your children in the car. A mechanic diagnosed that your spark plugs were misfiring due to oil buildup from a faulty piston ring valve, a problem your mechanic said is common in Odysseys. Honda has refused to cover the repair under a warranty extension they sent you, claiming they need the check engine light to be on and specific diagnostic codes to appear before they'll authorize the work—even though your mechanic documented the issue with pictures and codes. The repair will likely require replacing the piston rings and spark plugs, with a permanent fix costing around $5,000 or a temporary spark plug replacement lasting 6-8 months.

Your engine is experiencing frequent misfires (7 in 4 years) caused by carbon buildup and oil leaking past the piston rings — a known issue Honda has acknowledged. Honda attempted to repair the piston rings but the problem persisted, requiring additional spark plug and coil replacements. While Honda extended the warranty in July 2025 to cover misfires for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the original purchase date, they have denied your reimbursement request for the repairs you've already paid for out of pocket. Resolving this may require pursuing a warranty claim under the extended coverage or escalating your case with Honda Customer Service.

Your engine's cylinder 1 has misfired twice in the past month due to spark plugs fouled with oil, which also caused ignition coil problems. When this happened while driving at highway speeds, your vehicle went into limp mode with a flashing check engine light and disabled safety features like forward collision monitoring and lane departure warning. The mechanic found diagnostic code P0301 both times. This may be related to known issues with your 3.5L engine's VCM system that can cause oil to leak into the cylinders. Repair will likely involve replacing the fouled spark plugs and ignition coil pack, and possibly addressing the underlying oil leak source.

You purchased a 2015 Honda Odyssey that showed 7,274 miles at the time of sale, but when you had it inspected at a Honda dealer, they discovered the vehicle's title showed over 200,000 miles. The dealer's maintenance records confirmed the odometer read approximately 198,000 miles during the last service in 2024, indicating the odometer may have been rolled back or tampered with before you bought it.

You discovered a major mileage discrepancy on a 2015 Honda Odyssey you were considering buying. The seller advertised the vehicle with 113,000 miles, but the Carfax report showed 291,000 miles — a difference of 178,000 miles. This indicates potential odometer fraud, and you chose not to purchase the vehicle.

You purchased a 2015 Honda Odyssey as a private sale with a reported mileage of 96,000 miles. When you registered the vehicle, you discovered the actual mileage was 222,000 miles — more than double what was stated. The registration documents and Carfax report provided at sale appear to have been altered to hide the true mileage. This is odometer fraud, and you should contact local law enforcement and keep documentation of all evidence.

You purchased a 2015 Honda Odyssey that showed 144,000 miles at the time of sale, but when you registered it, the actual mileage was found to be 244,000 miles—a difference of 100,000 miles. This suggests the odometer may have been tampered with or rolled back before you bought the vehicle. Verifying the vehicle's actual mileage history and consulting with Honda or a mechanic about the odometer accuracy may be necessary.

Your Honda dealer refused to perform warranty service on your 2015 Odyssey because Honda's internal database incorrectly shows your vehicle as having a salvage title, even though your Minnesota DMV records confirm your title is clean. This prevented inspections and repairs to safety systems like brakes, electronic stability control, and adaptive cruise control. The issue may require Honda to correct their database records and verify your vehicle's actual title status so the dealer can resume normal warranty service.

Steering,electrical System,vehicle Speed Control →1 issue
Your 2015 Honda Odyssey may experience a leaking gasket on the rocker arm oil control valve that allows engine oil to drip onto the alternator below it, potentially contaminating the electrical charging system and creating a fire risk. You may notice sudden, unexplained acceleration without pressing the gas pedal, followed by electrical failures and a dead battery even after replacement. The vehicle can stall unexpectedly in traffic, leaving you stranded without power steering or lights. Fixing this issue typically involves replacing the faulty rocker arm oil control valve gasket and possibly the alternator if it's been contaminated.

While driving at highway speed, your Odyssey's Check ABS light came on, followed by multiple warning lights flashing across the dashboard. The engine then shut down completely with no warning, leaving you unable to accelerate and with severely reduced steering and braking power. The vehicle would not restart after stopping, and all systems except the hazard lights appeared to be dead, suggesting a critical electrical system failure. This will likely require a complete electrical system diagnostic and possible replacement of the battery, alternator, or main electrical components.

Power Train →1 issue
Your transmission occasionally gets stuck in first gear and then abruptly shifts to second gear with a loud, jarring jerk that startles you while driving. This problem happens unpredictably, and you're concerned the car might break down unexpectedly on the road. The dealership hasn't been able to reproduce the issue during their inspections, even though similar complaints exist online for Honda vans and SUVs. A transmission fluid flush, software update, or transmission solenoid replacement may be needed to resolve this shifting problem.

Power Train,engine →1 issue
Your engine's check-engine light came on due to misfires caused by deteriorating piston rings and sludge buildup fouling your spark plugs. This defect causes hesitation and loss of power, making it difficult to merge or accelerate safely. Honda has extended warranty coverage for this specific issue on your vehicle model through January 31, 2026, but dealers may deny repairs if the fault codes aren't actively present during inspection, even though the problem is intermittent. The underlying fix requires engine work to address the piston ring deterioration and internal sludge, though a temporary spark plug replacement may temporarily improve symptoms.

Your rear hatchback window spontaneously shattered while the vehicle was parked in the garage with no one inside. The glass appears to have failed under internal pressure rather than from impact. While no one was injured in this case, this could pose a serious safety risk if it happens while driving on the highway.
