Component: BACK OVER PREVENTION:DISPLAY FUNCTION

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot, and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. Due to a faulty Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) communication coaxial cable connector, the rearview camera image may not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk: A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Fix: Dealers will replace the MOST cable harness and install a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 24, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are EEL, ZEM, and SFC.

Filed: Jan 2026

Your 2023 Honda Odyssey is experiencing multiple serious electrical and safety system failures. The most dangerous issues are rear doors that won't open even after unlocking (trapping children inside), a push-button start that sometimes doesn't respond at all leaving the vehicle completely unresponsive for 10-30 minutes, and intermittent dashboard/electrical glitches while driving. You've also reported dangerous driver-assist behavior including unwanted automatic braking that caused injury and steering issues in construction zones. Diagnosis and repair will likely require a comprehensive electrical system inspection, battery/charging system testing, and software diagnostics to identify the root cause of these interconnected failures.

Your car's windshield camera has failed, which means several safety features are no longer working: collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams. These features rely on the camera to detect obstacles and lane markings, so they won't function until the camera is replaced or repaired.

Your 2023 Odyssey's engine shut off unexpectedly at a red light while Auto Idle-Stop was active, and it wouldn't restart—leaving you coasting through an intersection without power steering. The Honda dealer's diagnostic found that the 12-volt battery current sensor has developed a faulty internal resistance reading that prevents the engine from restarting after idle-stop. The battery itself tested healthy, but the sensor is malfunctioning and can be reproduced by jostling the negative terminal connection. You'll likely need the battery current sensor replaced to restore normal Auto Idle-Stop function and prevent future stalls in traffic.

Your car's central control screen has been blacking out since December 2024, and by August 2025 it stopped working completely. This screen controls important functions like navigation and your backup camera, which you need to safely reverse your vehicle — especially in busy parking lots. The replacement part has been on back order for over a year with no clear delivery date, leaving you without critical safety and control features.

Your rear lift gate opens and closes on its own while you're driving and when parked, which could cause groceries or other items to fall out and create a safety hazard for passengers. The dealership believes water is getting inside the lift gate mechanism through damaged weather stripping around the rear window, causing the controls to malfunction. Fixing this will likely involve replacing the weather stripping and inspecting the lift gate's electrical controls for water damage.

Your tailgate closed unexpectedly and struck you when you pressed the release button while the vehicle was off. No medical attention was needed, but this indicates the tailgate's closing mechanism may not be functioning safely. The issue occurred at approximately 9,000 miles. A technician should inspect the tailgate's hydraulic struts, latch mechanism, and electronic controls to ensure they're working properly.

Filed: Dec 2025

Your car's auto stop/start feature struggles to restart the engine at red lights and during stopped traffic, causing rough idle behavior. The system has already drained one battery (replaced under warranty) and is draining your new battery as well, especially during cold starts. You may need to manually charge the battery frequently to avoid being stranded.

Your engine shut down while sitting in heavy traffic due to the Auto Idle Stop feature, and then wouldn't restart when you tried to start it again. The engine eventually started after a few minutes of being idle. This happened on the Southern State Parkway. The issue involves the electrical system or engine not responding properly when the Auto Idle Stop feature activates.

Filed: Feb 2026

Your engine loses power, hesitates, and jerks before stalling without warning—especially in hot weather and heavy traffic when the fuel tank is less than half full. After stalling, the car won't restart for 20–30 minutes until it cools down, then runs normally again until the problem repeats. A fault code related to the fuel pump has been detected, and this matches a known recall issue where the fuel pump can fail and cause the engine to stall while driving, creating a serious safety hazard. The fuel pump likely needs to be inspected and replaced.

Your Odyssey has multiple serious electrical issues: the rear doors won't open (trapping children inside), the electronic dashboard fails while driving, and the van won't start. The dealer initially couldn't reproduce the problems despite your video evidence, but a Honda administrator confirmed other owners are reporting the same issues and that Honda doesn't currently have a fix. You've been asked to take the vehicle back and continue driving it despite these unresolved problems.

Filed: Aug 2025

While driving at 30 mph, your Odyssey suddenly lost power and made a loud metallic grinding noise from the engine before stalling completely. Multiple warning lights came on, including the check engine light, and the engine wouldn't restart. Two different dealerships both confirmed that your engine has failed and requires complete replacement at 71,000 miles.

Your 2023 Honda Odyssey's engine is making a knocking noise that persists even after an oil change with the correct amount of oil and replacement of the timing belt tensioner and high-pressure fuel pump. The knocking is especially noticeable when driving at low speeds. This may indicate an internal engine issue that requires further diagnostic inspection to identify the source.

Your front right safety sensor is triggering false warnings randomly throughout the day, sometimes continuously for days and then silent for weeks. The system displays an "object warning" on your dash and sounds a loud alarm that won't stop unless you put the car in park, which is dangerous when driving on highways or in traffic. The dealer has inspected it but hasn't been able to identify or fix the cause. Resolving this will likely require sensor replacement or recalibration by a qualified technician.

Your van's engine randomly shuts off completely while idling, leaving you stranded for 15-30 seconds before you can restart it. This happens without any warning lights or error codes, making it difficult for the dealership to diagnose. The dealership has suggested replacing the starter, relay, and adjusting engine valves, though a recent software update didn't resolve the issue.
