2016 Honda Civic Other Problems

On 4/16/23, I noticed that the paint surrounding my rear window is peeling from the body of the car. There have been no dings nor accidents; the paint just started peeling. Obviously, this is not a safety issue, but I have read that Honda has had issues with defective paint with other models.

EXPLODING SUNROOF: (editing from an email to Honda on June 13, 2022) I have had numerous Hondas (and Civics) over the years and bought a 2016 Honda Civic (with extended warranty (just expired I think). While driving from Oregon to California (for a conference in Asilomar) June 13, 2022 on Hwy 680, I heard a noise and thought someone had hit me - but didn't see any car.

Although my car runs fine and the Check Engine Light (or any other warning light) did not illuminate, my car suddenly went into Limp Mode. I was on the I-90 East Freeway out of Seattle, just heading into a tunnel plus a bridge. Everyone was going about 65 (as was I), and suddenly I'm cut down to about 20 MPH with no shoulder to turn onto.

The Condensor on my 2016 Honda Civic Sedan is not working AGAIN. The condenser was replace by recall 2 years ago, I went on a trip to Nebraska last year from Utah, and a rock punctured the system. I go to use my car this spring and the AC doesn't work again.

While driving on the freeway on 1/6/2022, the sunroof suddenly exploded above my head. It was as if something was dropped from the sky and glass fell down on my head and into the exterior of the car. I was able to maintain control of the vehicle and maintain safety but it was absolutely terrifying.

AIR CONDITIONER: 2019 I purchased a 2016 Honda Civic Touring with 25,000 miles, when we were given the CarFax it did not state the AC had anything wrong with it or from any personel at Honda. Last thing on our minds being this car had low mileage and year was to check the AC.

My 2016 honda civic touring while driving approx. 60 MPH on the interstate in about 60 degree weather while raining. My sunroof exploded the center portion of it which in turn damaged my drunk and if someone was behind me could have had other catastrophic events.

Was driving to work on 1/26/2019 at about 11:30 am when I heard a very loud pop. I thought maybe I had blown a tire and turned down my music. I heard a lot of wind and after verifying that all of my windows were up I opened the visor to my sunroof to discover that my sunroof had exploded.

Sunroof exploded. We were driving along on the highway at night in late november and heard a loud thud above us. The sunroof shade was closed thankfully because when I opened it to check, we realized that the glass had shattered.

The AC compressor and condenser are both leaking. One dealership tried to tell me they were leaking because a rock hit it and caused the damage, and it costs $600 to fix. But upon proper diagnosis from another dealership, they did tell me both the compressor and condenser are leaking, and it was not caused by road hazard damage.

The sunroof in my 2016 civic exploded this morning. There was no vehicles around me or overpasses. It sounded like a gun shot and then I heard glass shattering.

Driving down the highway and sunroof exploded. Not going under any overpass or bridge. Glass rained down on me at highway speeds.

I pressed my automatic start key from the window of the building , while I was getting ready ,(washing my face, brushing teeth) after a couple seconds later I heard the sound of the alarm , which would usually turn on if there is a hit or impact or loud sound . When I came downstairs, about 5-10 minutes later .

The sunroof spontaneously shattered. No rock, no object. Exploded itself.

I bought a honda civic ex 2016 2.0 l on 2/17. On 2/24, the car broke down midway (miles driven 88). When vehicle was in motion, all kinds of video warning messages like problem with transmission, braking system, steering etc.

AC on these models is a complete failure. The transmission failed in the middle of a busy boulevard. I was waiting, then attempting to drive forward to make a u-turn. The speed limit was 55 MPH, cars were honking and had to change lanes not to hit me - and it was raining.

AC system fails for the third time since 2021 (fixed twice and issue comes back)

The A/C unit is continuously giving out. The condenser and compression shaft have been replaced twice and have now damaged the evaporator causing it to leak. Due to the A/C system blowing hot air, driving in the high degree weather has became a risk to myself and passengers.

My AC gave me problems 2years ago, after a couple times at dealer finally, needs to replace Compresor and condenser and hoses. Honda put me in waiting list for the replacement of the parts. (covered under 10 years extended warranty) finally got call to repair the car.

The evaporator core is leaking, which is causing reduced visibablility out of the windows due to condensation on the windows, mold-like smells from moisture from the interior cabin (it is available upon request). I took it into the dealer - they examined the issue (the shaft seal had just been replaced in April of this year) and let me know that this time the evaporator core was leaking.

The differential inside the transmission is making a knocking noise and shakes really badly check engine light came on and traction control light both are on and break system light and I have not even had it for a year

After numerous statements regarding issues with the A/C units, it appears there’s an additional item that should be added to the list of recall/extended warranty issues for Honda. The back up camera does not work if the car is put into reverse immediately after starting the car. The Honda logo appears on the screen and the car still reverses. If you put the car back in park and then move it back to reverse, usually the camera will come on.

The a/c compressor failed, shooting out ice particles into my face. Honda acknowledges the condenser was faulty from the factory and replaced that component, but refuses to acknowledge that the faulty condenser probably shortened/cause issues with the life of the compressor causing it to fail.

Purchased car in july 2016, single owner, took the car into the dealership, capital honda in olympia, wa on 4/10/2020 due to no cool air form AC system, informed that the compressor has oil and refrigerant leaking from compressor, the compressor is required to be replaced to fix. AC is faulty from the factory. From the time I bought the car in 2016, the AC has been making hissing noises that were RPM dependent. When I took it in under warranty, they charged the freon and it was back to how it was in the beginning.

Randomly heard a pop, and the AC stopped working. Took car to a dealership that tried to tell me it was road hazard damage. After leaving honda I called back to inquire more information, honda refused to show me the issue but told me they would charge me $200 for a diagnosis fee.

In the summer of 2018, with the air conditioning system on, it was blowing warm air on the driver side while the passenger side discharging cold air. Took the car to the dealer for inspection. The service department informed us there was a leak.

Backup camera will randomly go black during operation if shifted into reverse during headunit boot (immediately after vehicle cold start) and headunit resumes boot showing honda logo and driver warning screen instead of backup camera. Has happened on multiple occasions. Honda dealer was initially notified on 4/27/2018 but no resolution has been provided as of 11/30/2018.

Air conditioning system went out. Blows warm air and makes hissing noises. It takes a very long time to defog the windshield reducing visibility while driving and making it uncomfortable to drive.

Air conditioning a/c has been not working for the last month or two. It started off blowing warm air on the drivers side and cool on the passenger side. After a few days it's warm on both sides now.

Issues: under splash / guard falling down - yonkers honda service parts state it is physical damage for the under splash guard to fall down and not possibly the screws getting loose. Yonker service parts said it was normal wear and tear and that I must of went over something that pulled down the under guard. I now have 11,900 miles and car under 2 years old.

At a certain freeway speed 60+ MPH with the combination of a particular incline of the roadway the back end of the vehicle starts to slightly fishtail which leads to instability in controlling the vehicle. This fishtailing action takes place at the downward travel on the inclining road.

I was driving down the highway and a small rock hit my windshield and cracked it right where the rear view mirror is attached. There is no impacted point in the glass just the splintering of the glass. Safelite had to make a small hole just to do the repair.

Brand new honda civic sedan touring has had navigation system/GPS problems from day two: - does not acquire satellite data / does not connect to satellite - navigation system showing the car location completely wrong, sometimes by a mile - navigation system rebooting itself while driving - car symbol is wiggling all over the map while driving this happens almost every time car is driven, on a two-lane street or on a highway, day or night.

Driving the car home at 7 pm and heard a loud pop noise like a gunshot. No other vehicles in site and on a road where there are no homes just open fields. Pulled over to find the sunroof had a huge hole in the middle of it and the rest of the glass that was still tact was in tiny pieces like and looked like a spider web.

Car purchased in may , with 3700 k has had 3 issues: getting ready to back up out of driveway - the backup screen was diminished to a small sliver across the top of entire screen with the balance of screen black. Took it to dealer to be fixed.

The cover for the third brake light on the rear window does not stay attached to my 2016 civic coupe. I believe it's going to cause a safety issue when it limits my visibility in rear view mirror. I bring my new car back to the dealer four time so far for the same problem and still not fix.

My infotainment system has been malfunctioning for roughly 4 year now. I bought my 2016 Honda Civic Touring in 2019 from Hagerstown Kia in Hagerstown Maryland. Several months after I purchased the car, my infotainment randomly does things on its own like back out of navigation apps and return to Home Screen or randomly turn on the blind spot camera.

The inside door handle on my car has become unusable two times in the past 2 years. This is a danger because, in case of an emergency, the door would not be able to be opened by the passenger.

The inside of the car smells like coolant and the air is making the front dashboard foggy. One area of the Central AC is blowing cooler than the other.

Air conditioning unit slowly quit blowing out cold air. Actually it happened in 2020. I read there was a problem with the unit holding Freon.

The AC blows hot on drivers side causing the driver to sweat and lose grip of steering wheel. This is a known issue of faulty AC systems in this year of civics.

AC Problems in this generation of the vehicle are rampant. We recently had the condenser in this vehicle changed under an extended warranty via American Honda less than a year ago because the AC was blowing warm. It worked fine until present day where the AC seems to be blowing warm again.

My main display is unusable after different type of colors appear on the display. I can listen to the music but main display is not responsive and colors on it go from blue lines to completely black. Tried reseting by removing the battery, replacing the fuse but not luck.

Air compressor went bad.

While driving down a smooth, straight road at about 50mph, I heard a loud sound, similar to a gunshot. When I looked up, the glass sunroof was shattered and had a roughly 7" x 12" hole. Only one or two small pieces of glass fell into the car.

The air conditioning no longer works on the drivers side. The passenger side blow cool air, but the driver side only blows hot air like the a/c isn't on. This causes the windshield to steam while driving due to the temperature variance, along with creating an extremely uncomfortable driving experience that is hazardous in hot weather.

Honda has known a/c issues with the corrosive 1234yf refrigerant that impacts the entire cooling system. Service bulletin covers the condenser however does not cover the compressor, clutch or coil that is a costly fix. Honda has ignored the problem and should recall however they went the easy way out and put out a service bulletin.

AC slowly stopped putting out so much cold air. And suddenly one day jsut stopped blowing cold air all together. Nothing is coming out but alittle air.

The car's air compressor went out. I have to pay $1400 to fix. I have seen the part be on back order for many people having the same problem.

Car is only one yr old, not even 33,000 miles air conditioner blowing hot air, many of my friends have same problem. Honda won't honor warranty. Wants to charge over $500.00 to start.

After parking and locking my vehicle, when I later returned to my car all four windows were open approximately 3/4 of the way. This has happened 3 times. In one instance, the car had been parked prior to a rainstorm and after the rain had ended, I went out to the car to go on an errand and again all four windows were 3/4 of the way open.

March 2017 - two instances while putting gas, nozzle got stuck in the capless system causing owner panic, left with no instructions to prevent such occurrence or solve the problem. Opened ticket with honda april 2, 2017 case # 05919498 - no response as of today june 27, 2017. Not sure prevalence, observed some complaints online.

This car's horn really can not be heard by another driver. I really feel this is a safety hazard. I can't imagine a complaint has not been filed.

My wife gets 'sick' after riding in said car. We suspect that the car is emitting volatile organic compounds (vocs) to which she is sensitive. This has been an ongoing phenomenon since we purchased the car in august 2016 (it is now february 2017).

Today I purchased a new (demo/4,900+ miles) 2016 honda civic. While the salesman was demonstrating how to use the phone/connectivity features it was discovered the phone system was malfunctioning. I was advised to try it again when I drove off the lot to take my brand new car home and it may work when I got away from the lot.

Hi, I purchased 2016 civic in dec, 2015. I I have experience 3 issues till now 1. Electronic brake - I have had 2 incidents where my electronic parking brake engaged automatically while driving, luckily was driving in city at lower speeds.

The trunk and glove compartment do not lock...their is no way to safely valet park the vehicle and leave anything in the trunk or the glove compartment. This may not be a driving safety issue but it is a safety issue non the less. Honda must have lost their minds when they redesigned the vehicle.
