You purchased a 2012 Honda Civic from a private dealer with a stated mileage of 116,000 miles, but a Carfax report revealed the actual mileage was 159,000 miles. This mileage discrepancy suggests the odometer may have been tampered with or rolled back before you bought the vehicle. You'll want to consult with your state's consumer protection agency or attorney to discuss your options regarding this potential odometer fraud.

You purchased a 2012 Honda Civic from a private seller that showed 119,560 miles on the odometer, but when you verified the title and had a mechanic check it, the actual mileage was 193,099 miles. This mileage discrepancy suggests the odometer may have been tampered with or rolled back. You may want to have the vehicle's service history and odometer records reviewed by a professional to confirm the true mileage.

You purchased a 2012 Honda Civic from an independent dealer that showed 71,000 miles, but when you replaced the instrument panel during repairs, you discovered the actual mileage was 190,000 miles. This indicates the odometer may have been tampered with or rolled back before you bought the car. You may want to contact the dealer and consider consulting with a local consumer protection agency or attorney about this mileage discrepancy.

Your car's alarm is going off randomly for no reason. A mechanic told you it's a factory system and suggested pressing your key fob twice to stop it, but the problem wasn't officially diagnosed or fixed. Resolving this will likely involve inspecting the alarm system's wiring and sensors to find what's triggering it incorrectly.

Your 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid suddenly loses power and steering assist while driving, causing the engine to stall and the steering wheel to lock up—making it dangerous to control. This has happened multiple times in traffic, and your dashboard shows warning lights including the IMA light and anti-lock brake warning. Diagnostic scans show fault codes related to the power inverter, which is the same component involved in Honda's recall for 2012–2015 Civic Hybrids, even though your vehicle's VIN may not be listed in that recall. The repair will likely involve replacing or servicing the IMA motor power inverter.

Your 2012 Honda Civic experienced a front axle failure at 156,000 miles, causing the vehicle to roll away while parked. Additionally, you noticed vibration and abnormal sounds at a stop light, followed by the vehicle unexpectedly lurching forward when you pressed the accelerator — with no warning light appearing. The front axle was replaced at an independent mechanic, but the second issue with the unexpected acceleration was not diagnosed or repaired by either the independent mechanic or dealer. Fixing this would likely involve a complete front axle assembly replacement and a thorough diagnostic of the fuel or engine control systems to identify the cause of the unexpected acceleration.

Your car hesitates or stalls when you press the accelerator pedal, and a "Check Emission Systems" warning appears on your dashboard. Honda issued a service bulletin and your dealer performed a PCM (engine computer) update, but the problem has returned. The dealer says they can't be required to fix it under the service bulletin, so the vehicle remains unrepaired.

Filed: Apr 2025

Your car's right front control arm and mounting point failed while driving, causing your vehicle to be a total loss. You've also experienced cracked control arm bushings, tire shredding on the right front wheel (with no identifiable cause found), and steering system issues since 2019. The owner is requesting an investigation into whether this is a widespread defect affecting other 2012 Honda Civics beyond the existing recalls. Diagnosis and repair would involve inspection and replacement of the control arm assembly, bushings, and potentially suspension components.

While driving, your car's power steering suddenly stops working, making the vehicle difficult to steer. This appears to be related to an electronic stability control error code (1.33-06). The repair will likely involve diagnosing the power steering system and electronic control modules to identify why power assist was lost.

Filed: Sep 2025

Your check airbag system warning light comes on occasionally when you make sharp turns or move the steering wheel quickly, and the dashboard indicates the passenger-side airbag is off. This problem started recently even though the rest of the car runs well. The issue may be caused by a faulty airbag sensor or wiring problem that needs diagnostic testing to identify.

Your airbag warning light began flashing and beeping on your dashboard and wouldn't stop, even after restarting the engine. Your mechanic diagnosed the problem as a faulty Occupant Passenger Detection Sensor, which determines whether the passenger seat is occupied. The constant flashing made the 3-hour drive home very distracting, and the car isn't considered safely drivable with an active airbag warning. The sensor will need to be replaced to restore proper airbag function.

Filed: Jan 2026

Your car's engine, emissions system, power steering, and stability control all started showing warning messages at the same time. A Honda dealership found that cylinder #4 has a seized spark plug and cylinder head damage, which is causing engine misfiring. These simultaneous failures make steering and stability control unreliable, creating a safety risk when turning or during emergency driving. The repair will likely require replacing the spark plug, inspecting the cylinder head for damage, and possibly replacing internal engine components.

Your hybrid system has stopped working, forcing your car to run on gasoline only. This means your regenerative braking system isn't functioning, which reduces your braking performance and increases stopping distances—creating a serious collision risk, especially in heavy traffic or sudden stops. A Honda dealer has confirmed the issue and says the MPI (Motor Power Inverter) needs to be replaced. The repair will likely involve replacing the MPI unit and possibly related hybrid battery charging components to restore your hybrid and regenerative braking systems.

Your car's tire pressure sensor and airbag warning lights are both illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle history may be more complex than represented at sale, with potentially higher actual mileage than stated. You should have the airbag system professionally diagnosed to ensure it's functioning properly, and reset or replace the tire pressure sensors as needed.

Your 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid has multiple error codes (P1437, POA78, P15A5) related to the IMA Motor Power Inverter system that match Honda Service Bulletin 20-030, which covers this exact issue on 2012-2015 Civic hybrids. Your vehicle is well within the 15-year/150,000-mile warranty period for this component at 95,000 miles, but Honda has refused to repair it. The Motor Power Inverter Module and Motor Current Sensor Circuit appear to have internal electrical malfunctions that need diagnosis and replacement.

When you run the air conditioning and accelerate, your engine hesitates or skips, making the car jerk. This problem has been happening repeatedly for several years and past repair attempts haven't permanently fixed it, forcing you to avoid using the AC in hot weather. The issue likely involves the fuel system or engine control responding poorly when the AC compressor engages during acceleration, and a proper diagnosis would be needed to identify whether it's a fuel delivery, sensor, or ignition issue.

Your car's ABS (anti-lock braking) and VSA (vehicle stability assist) system isn't working properly due to a faulty module. This appears to be a recurring issue reported by other owners of this model year. The module will likely need to be replaced or reprogrammed by a technician.

Your car's paint has faded and become cloudy over time, which you believe is due to low-quality paint from the factory. You weren't informed about an extended warranty that might have covered this issue, and when you contacted Honda, you were told the warranty had already expired. A dealership service visit could have potentially addressed this during the coverage period, but it was never mentioned as an option.
