Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 HONDA CIVIC VEHICLES. TO PREVENT FUEL FROM LEAKING OUT OF A VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK INTO THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CANISTER IN THE EVENT A ROLL-OVER INCIDENT OCCURS, THE FUEL PUMP MODULE IS EQUIPPED WITH A ROLL OVER VALVE (ROV). DUE TO IMPROPER ULTRASONIC WELDING OF THE PLASTIC CASE THAT HOUSES THE ROV WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE, THE CASE MATERIAL MAY BREAK OR CRACK, WHICH MAY CAUSE THE ROV TO SEPARATE FROM THE CASE AND FAIL TO FUNCTION, THEREBY INCREASING THE RISK OF FUEL LEAKAGE IN A ROLL-OVER INCIDENT.

Risk: FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE AND IF NECESSARY REPLACE THE MODULE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 25, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

Your driver-side airbag and side curtain airbag deployed unexpectedly while your car was parked and turned off, with no impact or warning lights. Your passenger was injured slightly during the deployment, which happened while the front passenger window was being rolled up. The dealer was unable to diagnose or fix the problem. The issue may require airbag system diagnostics and replacement of the deployed airbag modules.

Your airbags failed to deploy during a collision with a concrete parking lot light pole. You sustained serious injuries including a cracked sternum, ribs, shoulder, and back, plus aggravation of a prior spine injury. The impact also caused significant engine and radiator damage that totaled the vehicle. Addressing this would require a full airbag system diagnostic and replacement of the airbag control module and sensors.

Your driver's side airbag suddenly deployed while your grandson was driving on the highway, filling the car with smoke and debris. He safely pulled over and drove home, but the airbag went off without any collision occurring. After insurance and dealership inspections found no obvious cause, your car has been at the dealership for over a month with little communication about when repairs will be completed. The airbag system will likely need to be diagnosed to determine why it deployed, and the airbag unit itself will need to be replaced.

You were a passenger in a side-impact crash on the driver's side in April 2020. Your passenger airbag deployed late, and the two passenger-side curtain airbags didn't deploy at all, even though the airbags had been replaced under recall about a year prior. You sustained serious injuries including a cracked windshield from head impact, broken sternum, and two displaced discs from chest impact with the dashboard. The issue appears to be a failure of the airbag system to deploy properly and on time during a crash event.

Your 2011 Honda Civic is part of a Takata airbag recall (NHTSA Campaign 18V661000), but the replacement parts haven't been available yet from Honda. The fix will require Honda to supply and install replacement airbag components once they become available.

Filed: Mar 2023

Your rear passenger's side seat belt won't buckle properly when someone tries to fasten it. This happened at around 50,000 miles on your 2011 Honda Civic. The seat belt needs to be inspected and likely replaced to ensure your passengers are properly secured in case of an accident.

The front passenger seat belt on your 2011 Honda Civic has become stuck and locked beside the seat due to a design issue with how the seat is built. You can't use this seat belt until it's fixed, which means you can't safely transport a passenger in that seat. The local Honda dealer hasn't been helpful in addressing the issue. You may need to contact Honda directly or seek a repair at an independent shop, which will likely involve inspecting the seat belt mechanism and seat assembly to free the stuck belt and address the underlying design problem.

Filed: May 2024

You heard a scraping sound synchronized with tire rotation whenever you braked, and your brakes completely failed while trying to stop at a red light. After a shop rebuilt your rear braking system, the scraping continued and got worse. The Honda dealership adjusted your brakes, replaced both rear drums for $341, but the noise persists and is now louder—they attributed it to stretched emergency brake cables. Fixing this may involve inspecting and replacing the emergency brake cables, brake drums, and brake shoes to eliminate the scraping and restore proper braking function.

Your 2011 Civic is experiencing multiple issues: the car continued into an intersection even when you applied the brakes, the headlights provide poor visibility, the rear passenger door rattles as if not fully closed, the digital odometer display is failing, the automatic transmission delays gear changes until nearly 4000 RPM, and both front doors swing back and can hit occupants. Additionally, paint is chipping on the trunk. You should have any recalled airbag and fuel system issues addressed immediately by a dealer, as these are safety-critical concerns.

You discovered that your 2011 Honda Civic's odometer reading was significantly lower than the actual mileage — the seller showed 89,000 miles at purchase, but the vehicle history report revealed 161,158 miles. This suggests the odometer may have been tampered with, and the mold indicates the car may have been exposed to moisture or flood damage.
