2016 Ford Fusion Steering Problems

I have had road salt contamination with the electrical wiring to the power steering causing the wires to become brittle and break causing a power steering failure in a right curve which caused the steering wheel to jerk the car to the left nearly causing a collision.

The power steering failed suddenly while driving. The vehicle became nearly impossible to steer and control. Our safety and the safety of others vehicles or pedestrians was put at risk because the car could not be steered or controlled properly.

Car initially showed a warning alert for failed traction control. Attempted to reset using steering wheel reset, failed. Tried backing car up and steering became extremely hard to do, requiring maximum effort to turn wheel.

First of all steering wheel came loose from steering column luckily I was pulling into a parking spot due to steering wheel feeling very loose and the electric steering went out also this could have resulted in terrible accident as I was driving back from working offshore approximately 45 miles away.

Date of first incident was Nov 19, 2023. I was driving home from taking my elderly mother to the doctor and my engine just shut off. I had plenty of gas, my oil and transmission had been changed, no warning lights came on my dash prior to the engine stopping.

The power steering goes out randomly, mostly when it is hot outside or on the interior. It is not included in the current recall for this issue, however it needs to be. It happened in 2021 and now is still happening in 2022.

I replaced the starter battery after the original battery reached the end of its life. Upon installing the new battery, I had dashboard messages showing “Electric Power Steering Assist failed” And other cascaded systems offline because of no steering. Without the steering assistance, the safety of driving the car is questionable.

A few weeks after having recealls performed for the steering and airbag issues, I was driving on the freeway and got a warning light(attached) that said "steering fault service now". The steering bacame slightly sticky but still drivable. After reacbing my destination and restarting my car, I then received the same fault light as well as traction control, and airbag lights.

No power steering assist, this is 3rd time this has happened. Previous repairs have been to wire connections. This time we were informed module is not communicating.

Crazy it never been a recall for this situation and I read loads of comments of how people got hurt or almost got hurt from this & get rejected from ford on fixing the problem & not wanting to address it... Hello, I was driving towards the hotel I was staying at when I heard some squeaky noises when I was turning my car (this was at night). The next day, I was leaving the parking garage, about to drive onto a main road when my power steering went. I got the car towed to the auto dealership and it turns out that there are three recalls out on my car.

On Saturday Feb 5th, while driving our vehicle on the highway, the steering wheel started coming loose. By the time we parked the car in our driveway, the steering wheel was rocking in all directions at an inch. We had the steering wheel bolt replaced in 2018, because of this part being recalled.

I drove the vehicle 2 miles to a nearby shopping center. I came out 15 minutes later and tried to start the car. Immediately flashing on the console was a large yellow wrench, message telling me to stop the vehicle immediately, pull over, errors with steering system, errors with side impact system and various other errors flashed.

I can be driving and/or stopped and ABS, stability control and steering wheel indicator lights come on. Once I stop car and turn off for a few seconds and then turn back on, errors go away. Nothing may happen for a week but then the next week it may happen every time I drive.

I was doing highway speeds. While this is a new to me car I have always had fords including an excursion and more recently an 07 focus that died at 300,000.

When I purchased this vehicle or financed it from the dealership I asked for the car fax and noticed there were two safety recalls and asked if they had been fixed and they gave me two computer pieces of plain white print out paperwork that only said serviced recall and that they did all their service paperwork like that now !

Electronic warning that the power steering is no longer functioning property, epa light flashing on and off, and stated that there was an issue with the rear park aid. My car has less than 30k miles and it happened multiple times driving both locally and highway miles.

While I was driving there were a issue that the turning left and right directional weren't working. Nothing would come to the hud in the vehicle no blinkers neither sound. I assumed it's an electrical problem, also the controls from the steering wheel doesn't work aswell.

I can't make a reasonable appointment with a dealer for recall 18v-167 (ford 18s08) and there two 866 numbers won't provide any assistance to intervene with the dealer to get things moving. Not happy with the dealer response nor mark, nicki or reggi from ford customer relationships center.

I get in my 2016 Fusion to go to dinner and I can barely turn my steering wheel. I put it in park and check the power steering fluid. I tried resetting the power steering assist by starting the car and turning all the way left then right then center.

The ABS module is faulty and light will come on at random times and makes steering hard and braking on right side of vehicle is hard. I have taken it to Raceway Ford of Hartsville and they are having a hard time getting the part due to it being called obsolete but I think it needs to be on the recall list as well due to it being a safety concern on my vehicle.

Was driving and my wheel was hard to turn the wheel. Had to get a tow truck to pull it to my house. No lights didn’t show on the board indicating that there were any issues but, I can’t and haven’t been able to drive my car since the wheel locked.

The steering wheel has became severely loose to the point of almost detached. Ford claims there is no recall on this part for this model, however I've read that many people have had this problem. It is a high safety concern.

Power steering fault

The steering wheel is suddenly incredibly loose and while in park the steering wheel will rotate but the tires do not move with the steering wheel. While driving the steering wheel suddenly gets caught on something and will hold the steering wheel in place while turning the steering wheel. I have not the slightest idea on why this is happening but it is very concerning.

While at a stop trying to make left hand turn steering assist disabled appeared and steering wheel locked up.

I'm just wondering how it is even remotely legal to sell a vehicle, whether used or new, with current open recalls. When I purchased my vehicle through Triple J Auto in Guam, they never informed me of any open recalls when I purchased the vehicle.

I was pulling out across two lanes of traffic on a flat city street going approximately 15 MPH, and as I was holding the wheel, maintaining my drive line, the steering dropped out and I was rotating the wheel left and right desperate for the steering wheel to grab control again.

I was driving and the steering became stiff and very difficult to turn next morning I started the vehicle and could not turn steering at all ! Power steering assist fault !

Power steering suddenly failed

My friend aron was having an emergency when woke up at 4:00am to come to his help. After waking up with a redbull ,I was then heading to the house at wich aron lives . I was unfortunately an to my surprise .

Vehicles power steering failed while leaving a parking space.

I was driving upon making a left hand turn in the city the steering wheel became very difficult to turn, the stability control light and traction lights all lit up on the dashboard, basically felt like the power steering gave out. I'm not sure the cause of this or how it can be resolved.

All of a sudden when I was driving the power steering went out. The traction control also went off and will not come back on. I was on the highway when this happened and it will not come back on.

I was getting ready to leave my place of employment in the parking lot and I tried to put my car in drive but the gear shift was not registering. Gear shift inside the car said drive but my car was still in park. Later found out after I did some inspecting that the shift cable bushing had pop off, and that's why I wasn't able to move my car

Steering wheel rotates left to right about 30 degrees at low speeds up to about 40 MPH. Does this on acceleration and braking, on any surface. This fault takes place all of the time it is being driven.

Steering will stop working.

Backed out of driveway on a main road and put car in drive but it kept rolling backwards put my foot on the brake and put it in park but it still rolled back after several tries to change gears and it did not come out of reverse I put the car in park and cut it off and it would not crank.

Takata recall my car started to have no electricity this morning and couldn't start. When I charged, the steering wheel was locked, it was difficult to turn, it was difficult to use.suddenly no electricity, I dont know what the situation is.

When I started the car multiple alarms sounded and the display showed the following errors: steering assist fault service required, service advancetrac, pre-collission assist not available, hill start assist not available. The car has 13514.1 miles on the odometer at the time of this occurrence.

While driving through a subdivion, we came upon a sharp curb to the left. When we tried to turn the steering wheel to the left it would not move. The breaks were applied we slid off the road and hit a parked car.

I was driving in a parking lot in scranton pa and the steering wheel came so lose that it almost came right off. It scared me to the point were I did not want to drive my car. Something has to done about this because I did some digging and found out that I'm not the first one this happened to.

This is the second year since I bought it new in 2016. The steering wheel is getting loose and loose and it is now hard for me to drive exactly straight at a high speed (at or above 55mph).

I feel the floorboard moving under my foot every time I turn the wheel. Took it in and they said that it doesnt do it. Thats because they must have bent it back.

The steering wheel came loose. I was able to turn, tilt, rotate, etc on multiple axis (left and right as normal, diagonal, up and down, forward and backward) up to one inch before resistance was met. The motion occurred in the upper part of the steering column, only affecting the steering wheel.

Went to go to lunch today and cranked the car up and it started and no lights came on or radio. Started to back out and there was no steering. Turned off the car and restarted it and the radio and lights came on but servicetrac light still was on dash.

The steering assist, electric power steering, had a "fault" and the car would not start/crank. Before this happened the steering was strange, it was like there were string winds when driving on the highway, the car would sway side to side.
