FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 21, 2008, to March 4, 2011, and 2010-2011 Mercury Milan vehicles manufactured July 23, 2008, to December 10, 2010. The affected vehicles have fuel vapor canisters whose purge valves may not operate properly resulting in abnormal pressure changes in the fuel tank.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle powertrain control modules and inspect the vehicle for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) for this issue and perform a leak test on the Canister Purge Valve (CPV). The fuel tank will be inspected for cracks. The CPV and fuel tank will be replaced as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15S34.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal, with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who retrieved a fault code for a failure with the canister purge valve. The contact called another independent mechanic and was given an estimate for repair. The mechanic also referred the contact to Technical Service Bulletin: 15S34. The dealer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that the TSB did not apply to the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that after approximately 24 hours, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact's husband checked the vehicle and found that the purge valve canister had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The gas tank has developed a crack towards the top of the tank. This appears to be from the exact same issue that Ford recalled because the "purge valve" can cause the pressure to change inside the gas tank. As the pressure increases and decreases, a crack can develop in the top of the tank, allowing fuel to leak. My VIN was not included in the recall for some reason. Even though it is the exact same model and I believe was even built at the same plant in Mexico where the other impacted vehicles were made.

Car was purchased used at approximately 100,000 miles. While filling tank at pump, automatic shutoff on pump triggered repeatedly. It seemed vapor was backing up into the fill tube, so filling tank consisted of pressing pump then releasing once per gallon to allow vapors to disperse and repeat. Several mechanics reported working on similar cases and suggested inspecting the CPV canister. At approximately 110,000 miles, car developed a gas tank rupture. Mechanic inspected and determined that tank had burst at seam. In researching the CPV canister, discovered recall 15S34. Vin search states that this recall does not apply to this vehicle, but symptoms are identical to technical description.

ERROR CODE(S) P1450, P0456, FORD FUSION SE 2011, 3.0L V6 (4 VALVE). MY CAR WAS GETTING THE ERROR CODE P1450 (UNABLE TO BLEED UP FUEL TANK VACUME) THAT WOULD TURN ON THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT (MIL) THIS WOULD HAPPEN AFTER THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN STARTED FOR A SHORT TIME.. THIS WENT ON FOR A SHORT TIME, I FOUND THAT BY USING THE GAS FUNNEL SUPPLIED WITH THE CAR THE VACUME COULD BE RELIEVED AND ALL WAS GOOD FOR A FEW DAYS. AFTER ABOUT 3 OR 4 TIMES IT STOPED COMING UP. NOW ,1 YEAR AND A FEW DAYS TO THE DATE, IT'S BACK AND I'M GETTING THE ERROR CODE P0456 (EVAP EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM LEAK VERY SMALL) WITH IT.IT MEANS, IN MY CASE, THAT THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CANISTER PERGE VALVE (CPV) HAS A SMALL LEAK THAT IS CAUSING A VACUME TO DEVELOP IN THE FUEL TANK. IF THIS HAPPENS ENOUGH TIMES IT CAN CAUSE THE FUEL TANK TO DEVELOP A CRACK, THIS HASN'T HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE THAT I'M AWARE OF YET (I'LL BE CHECKING ON THAT WHILE I CHANGE THE CPV),. AND WE ALL KNOW THAT A LEAKING GASOLINE TANK ISN'T A GOOD THING IN A LOT OF WAYS.

FAILURE OF THE CANISTER PURGE VALVE SOLENOID; ENGINE LIGHT ON DUE TO BAD FILLER INLET NECK AND HAD TO REPLACED FILLER INLET; THE VEHICLE NEEDED THE FUEL FILLER TUBE REPLACED; EMISSIONS EVAPORATION SYSTEM ERROR CODES; "CHECK FUEL INLET" ERROR KEEPS COMING ON. I'VE HAD TO TAKE MY CAR IN FOR REPEATED CODE FAILURES RELATED TO THE FILL INLET. CANISTER HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE. FIRESTONE NOTICED SEVERAL FORD FUSIONS WITH THESE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. SAFETY CONCERNS REGARDING DISTRACTION FROM ENGINE LIGHT (STOPPED ON FREEWAY BECAUSE I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR), AND CHECK FUEL INLET ERRORS WERE WORRISOME. I HAD TO CLEAN THE FILLER INLET WHICH DIDN'T RESOLVE THE ISSUES. I CAN'T REMEMBER ALL THE EXACT DATES OF WHEN I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE.

I HAVE COMPLETED THE RECOMMENDED STEPS TO REMEDY THE ERROR BY CLEANING THE AREA AND BLOWING OUT ANY POSSIBLE DEBRIS FROM THE INLET. WHILE DRIVING TODAY, THE ERROR MESSAGE CAME BACK ON. A FEW MOMENTS LATER WHEN I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY REVVED UP APPROXIMATELY 2000 RPM AND STAYED UNTIL I PULLED OFF OF THE ROADWAY. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED AND THE ERROR MESSAGE IS STILL PRESENT, BUT I HAVEN'T ENCOUNTERED THE HIGH REVVING AGAIN AT THIS TIME. I PURCHASED A 2011 FORD FUSION ON 12/14/16. IT HAD A HALF TANK OF GAS IN IT WHEN I TOOK DELIVERY. I FILLED THE TANK ON 12/15/16. AFTER DRIVING IT, I NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF FUEL FOR ABOUT THE TOP 1/8 OF THE TANK. DUE TO A LOT OF SNOW AND ICE WE HAVE HAD, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO TELL IF THERE IS ACTUALLY ANY FUEL LEAKING ONTO THE GROUND BUT THE ODOR IS THERE ONCE THE CAR IS PARKED AFTER DRIVING. THERE IS A KNOWN RECALL OF ALMOST A HALF MILLION 2010/2011 FORD FUSIONS AND MERCURY MILANS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED WITHIN THE DATES OF THE RECALLED VEHICLES. NOV. 13, 2016 I FILLED THE TANK WITH GAS. WHEN I GOT HOME THE TANK WAS LEAKING PROFUSELY. THE NEXT MORNING I DROPPED IT OFF TO A CHAIN AUTO SHOP. THEY WERE ABLE TO DETERMINE THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE FUEL ASSEMBLY AND ALSO REPORTED THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL THAT I SHOULD TAKE TO FORD DEALER. I RESEARCHED THE RECALL 15S34 THAT WAS ISSUED FEB 4, 2016 BUT MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE HAD BEEN "CLOSED OUT". THE DEALER IN MICHIGAN LOOKED AT THE CAR 24 DAYS AFTER THE RECALL WAS ISSUED AND DETERMINED THERE WERE NO ISSUES. THEY REPROGRAMMED THE PCM ON FEB 29TH. THE NEW PATCH WASN'T RELEASED UNTIL THE 1ST QUARTER (NO DATE). HOWEVER, 8 MONTHS LATER - THE FUEL TANK IS EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS CONSISTENT WITH THE RECALL. I ALSO NOTICED PREVIOUSLY THAT WHEN I FILLED UP, THE CAR DIDN'T TURN OVER RIGHT AWAY. FORD REFUSES TO TAKE CARE OF THE FUEL TANK AND REOPEN THE RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. FORD'S AUTOMATED PHONE SYSTEM FOR RECALL - 15S34 SPECIFICALLY MENTIONS THAT "THE CPV MAY DEVELOP AN INTERNAL LEAK WHICH UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW EXCESSIVE VACUUM TO BUILD IN THE FUEL TANK. REPEATED CYCLES OF THIS CONDITION WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A CRACK TO DEVELOP. RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 15S34 IN JANUARY 2016 RELATED TO A DEFECT/SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM & FUEL TANK. MARCH 2016 (ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON) TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEMS I'VE BEEN HAVING AND PROVIDED BILL FROM MECHANIC AND DOCUMENTATION FOUND OF OTHER FORD OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. NEXT TIME I WAS STARTING UP FROM A STOPLIGHT IN TRAFFIC AND THE THROTTLE WOULD NOT SPEED THE CAR UP. COASTED THROUGH TRAFFIC TO A SERVICE ROAD AND KILLED THE ENGINE (WAS AT IDLE) AND RESTARTED OK. THIRD OCCURRENCE WAS 2 DAYS LATER WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES BETWEEN SHOPPING CENTER AND HOME. WOULD RESTART OK BUT THROTTLE WOULD QUIT WORKING AGAIN. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, WE ORDERED A REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODY AND PUT IT ON OURSELVES RATHER THAN ATTEMPTING TO GET FORD DEALER TO DO SOME SORT OF EXTENSION OF WARRANTY REPAIR. NO RECALL HAD BEEN RECEIVED FOR THIS PROBLEM. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN CAR LOSES POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC SO DID NOT WANT TO CONTINUE DRIVING SINCE THE PART WAS AVAILABLE AND EASY TO REPLACE. I REFUELED YESTERDAY AND FUEL BEGAN LEAKING OUT FROM THE FUEL FILLING PORT AND DOWN THE SIDE OF THE CAR. I STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES AND CLEANED THE SPILL. I FINALLY GAVE UP AND STOPPED AT HALF A TANK. I WENT TO THE DEALER TODAY AND WAS TOLD THIS ISSUE (REPLACING THE FUEL FILLER NECK) WAS NOT PART OF THE 8 YEAR/ 80,000 MILE EMISSIONS WARRANTY IN CALIFORNIA AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY ISSUE BUT AN ENVIRIONMENTAL ISSUE AS WELL. I AM HIGHLY CONCERNED THAT FORD CAN PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT ITEMS ARE WARRANTED WHEN IN FACT THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS FULLY INTEGRATED AND RELATES TO ALL OTHER FUNCTIONS IN THE SYSTEM. WE HAVE REPORTED TO FORD ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THAT THE CAR SURGES WHEN COMING TO A STOP. WE HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING WITHOUT AN ERROR CODE. AFTER THE INSURANCE COMPANY REPAIRED THE CAR WE DROVE IT TO FORD. UNFORTUNATELY WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ERROR CODE WILL CLEAR AFTER DRIVING A "COMPLETE CYCLE" OR "RUNNING A VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT". BOTH WERE COMPLETED AND FORD REPAIR TECH'S SAY THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BUT WITHOUT A CODE THEY CAN NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I OWN 2 FORD 2011 FUSIONS. THE OTHER CAR HAD AN ISSUE WHERE IT WOULD FREQUENTLY STALL OR GO "LIMP" AS FORD CALLS IT. MUCH LIKE THE SURGES WE HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH THIS VEHICLE, I HAD NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THIS OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. FINALLY IT WENT "LIMP" GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT IT INTO FORD A FEW DAYS LATER. THE LIGHT WAS OFF BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO RECOVER THE CODE. I BELIEVE THERE IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THE COMPUTERIZE THROTTLE CONTROL IN THESE VEHICLES AND A RECALL IS IN ORDER. WE ARE LUCKY THAT THE DRIVER DID NOT GET INJURED. THE AIRBAG DID NO DEPLOY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY A POST THAT CUT THROUGH THE BUMPER AND DAMAGED UP TO THE RADIATOR. I DECIDED TO SUBMIT A COMPLAINT AFTER LAST NIGHT HER CAR ONCE AGAIN STOPPED ACCELERATING ON A BRIDGE WITH A POLICE OFFICER BEHIND HER WHOM PROCEEDED TO PULL HER OVER. FORTUNATELY, THE OFFICER WAS UNDERSTANDING TO THE SITUATION. IT IS VERY UNSETTLING TO HAVE YOUR INEXPERIENCED 17 YEAR DAUGHTER ON THE HIGHWAY WITH A VEHICLE THAT OPERATES IN THIS CAPACITY. DRIVING 70 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE MOTOR SIMPLY CUT OFF. WAS FORTUNATELY ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND COME TO A STOP SAFELY. TURNED IGNITION OFF. I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY (I-70) EAST FROM ST. LOUIS, MO, TO DAYTON, OH. CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON AT 65 MPH, MODERATE/HEAVY TRAFFIC. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE WITHOUT WARNING, A "WRENCH" LIGHT AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, NOTHING HAPPENED. I PULLED OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER, AND THE CAR WAS SHUDDERING. I TURNED IT OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON. IT SEEMED TO BE FINE, SO I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. THREE MILES LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I DID THE SAME THING, PULLED OVER/TURNED OFF CAR/RESTARTED, AND THE CAR WORKED OKAY ONCE I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY. FOUR MILES LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME, I WAS BETWEEN TWO SEMI TRUCKS, AND WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY THE ONE BEHIND ME, WHICH WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN MY CAR BASICALLY BEING "CRUSHED" BETWEEN THE TWO TRACTOR TRAILERS. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER SAFELY TO CALL FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, AND AFTER HAVING TO TOW MY CAR TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY ADVISED ME IT WAS CAUSED BY FAILED THROTTLE BODY (DIAGNOSTIC CODE P2111). THE SERVICE AGENT THERE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BY FORD (HE TOLD ME HE HAS SEEN THE SAME PROBLEM ON CLOSE TO 100 OTHER CARS), BUT THE COMPANY HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. I CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING EITHER SERIOUSLY INJURED, OR EVEN KILLED, BECAUSE OF THIS. INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWED THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND THE DEALER KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT UPON HEARING OUR STORY. A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. HE SAID OURS WAS THE THIRD ONE BEING DROPPED OFF THAT SAME DAY FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. WE WERE VERY DISAPPOINTED TO HEAR THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS PART CONSIDERING HOW DANGEROUS THE SITUATION IS. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD, THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 3 MILES PER HOUR. WE HAD TO PUSH THE CAR HOME AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM IS THE THROTTLE BODY. FORD MOTOR CO. IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE THROTTLE BODY IN THIS MAKE/MODEL. FORD HAS RE-DESIGNED THIS PART BUT HAS NOT ISSUES A RECALL. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER A WEEK WAITING FOR A NEW THROTTLE BODY BECAUSE THERE IS A SHORTAGE DUE TO A LARGE NUMBER OF VEHICLES EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL TO AVOID WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL ACCIDENT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE AND MAINTENANCE WARNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE FUEL AND THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

ON 8/7/13 I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK IN MY APARTMENT COMPLEX (APPROX. 5 MPH) MY CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE GAS PEDAL AND STARTED "SHAKING" ERRATICALLY. A SMALL TOOL/WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON MY DASH. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. RESTARTED SEVERAL MINUTES LATER AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE WITH NO PROBLEMS UNTIL ON THE WAY HOME. I DIDN'T DRIVE IT AGAIN UNTIL 8/9/13 TO THE MECHANIC. IT STARTED AND DROVE FINE, UNTIL 15 MINUTES AFTER BEING ON THE INTERSTATE (WHICH I HAD TO GET ON TO GET TO THE MECHANIC) THE CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE GAS PEDAL AND SEEMS TO STAY AT THE SAME SPEED FOR ABOUT A MINUTE (APPROX. 60 MPH). FINALLY THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND STARTED SHAKING ( LIKE IT WAS OUT OF GAS BUT I STILL 1/2 TANK). I HAD TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY ON THE VERY BUSY INTERSTATE BECAUSE THE CAR WAS SHAKING AND DIDN'T SEEM TO RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND TRIED TO START DRIVING ON THE SHOULDER BUT THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AGAIN. I DECIDED TO TRY ONE MORE TIME BEFORE CALLING A TOW TRUCK BECAUSE IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION (AND I HAD MY 11 MONTHS OLD SON IN THE CAR) TRYING TO MERGE BACK ON THE FREEWAY WITH A CAR THAT DIDN'T WANT TO ACCELERATE AND WAS SHAKING. I TRIED AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY PULL BACK ONTO THE INTERSTATE. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF, I TOOK SIDE STREETS AND HAD TO STOP THE CAR AGAIN (APPROX. 30-40 MPH). MECHANICS SAID THAT FORDS AREN'T SUPPOSE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM THEY WERE VERY SURPRISED AND TOLD US TO RESEARCH THE INTERNET FOR RECALLS, THAT IS HOW I FOUND SAFERCAR.GOV AND THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME SITUATION. THIS PROBLEM IS OBVIOUSLY AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR ITSELF AND NOT IN ANYWAY THE OWNERS/OPERATORS FAULT. ONCE AGAIN I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AND MERGED BACK INTO TRAFFIC HOPING TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT EXIT, BUT IT DID IT AGAIN IN LESS THEN 1/4 MILE. I RESTARTED IT AND STAYED ON THE SIDE OF HIGHWAY. IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A GAS STATION AT NEXT EXIT. THE CAR HAD STALLED OUT A MONTH OR SO PRIOR BUT RESTARTED AND NO OTHER ISSUES UNTIL THIS REPORTED EVENT. ALSO AS WE RESEARCHED ON LINE MY CAR HAD THE SURGES OF POWER OR LACK THEREOF AS MENTIONED ON LINE. NOTE: I AM A PERSON WITHOUT MUCH MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE AND THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY UNSETTLING EVENT. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE AT ABOUT 65 MPH IN MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. WHILE TRAVELING YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN WHILE TRAVELING IN THE FAR LEFT LANE (FAST LANE). HAD TO SAFELY GET THE CAR TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AS IT COASTED WHILE TRAFFIC STILL MAINTAINED THEIR NORMAL SPEED. AFTER REMOVING KEY AND LETTING VEHICLE SIT FOR A COUPLE MINUTES, PUT KEY BACK IN IGNITION AND STARTED THE VEHICLE BACK UP. PROCEEDED WITH NO ISSUES. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 7/1/2013. WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO CODES AND COULD NOT GET VEHICLE TO PERFORM OUR STATED ISSUE. WAS TOLD IT MAY BE THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THEY WOULD ORDER ONE (WE ARE LOOKING AT THE MINIMUM A TWO WEEK WAIT). AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE WERE NO CODES FOR THEM TO GO OFF OF. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT OUR EXTENDED SERVICE CONTRACT DOES NOT COVER THIS AND THAT WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT AROUND A $400.00 REPAIR. IF WE WOULD OF HAD PREFERRED SERVICE PLAN THAT IT WOULD OF BEEN COVERED (IMAGINE THAT!). SO TODAY MY WIFE CALLS ME AGAIN TO TELL ME SHE IS ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN! AND ON TOP OF THIS ISSUE SHE NOW HAD A FLAT TIRE PROBABLY DUE TO HAVING TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WE MET UP AND CHANGED VEHICLES. I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO WORK, BUT NEVER MADE IT DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOT WANTING TO OPERATE AND YELLOW WRENCH COMING ON ALONG WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. HAD VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY OFFERED A LOANER CAR WHILE WE WAIT FOR PART TO ARRIVE WITH NO ESTIMATED ETA? FIRST INCIDENT 4/5/13: WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH SOUTHBOUND ON INTERSTATE 5 NEAR STADIUM WAY MY 2011 FORD FUSION WITHOUT WARNING LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ANY CHANGE IN THROTTLE POSITION VIA THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. HOWEVER, I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE FAR RIGHT-HAND LANE AND CONTINUE UPHILL ON THE TRANSITION LANE TO THE SOUTHBOUND 110 FREEWAY AS THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO SPUTTER NEAR IDLE. A CHP (CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL) OFFICER ESCORTED ME OFF THE FREEWAY. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES I ATTEMPTED TO START MY VEHICLE AND IT RAN FINE. I PURCHASED A OBD II SCANNER AND CHECKED FOR ANY STORED CODES, NO CODES WERE FOUND. I CONTINUED TO MONITOR MY VEHICLE VIA THE OBD II SCAN TOOL AND NO CODES WERE RECORDED. SECOND INCIDENT 6/13/13: WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH EASTBOUND IN THE NUMBER 1 LANE ON INTERSTATE 10 MY 2011 FORD FUSION ONCE AGAIN VEHICLE LOST POWER WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ANY CHANGE IN THROTTLE POSITION VIA THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. IN MY ATTEMPT TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER I WAS NEARLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY I PLUGGED IN THE OBD II SCAN TOOL AND IT CAPTURED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P2111 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM ' STUCK OPEN. MY VEHICLE WOULD ONLY IDLE VERY ROUGHLY. I ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE HOME IN THIS MODE. HOWEVER, AFTER APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES THE ENGINE STOPPED COMPLETELY AND I REQUIRED A TOW TO MY RESIDENCE. WHILE WAITING ON THE TOW VEHICLE I RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT FORD HAS ISSUED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) 09-23-5 ADDRESSING THIS DEFECT FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AFTER OCTOBER 15, 2009. THIS DEFECT WILL UNFORTUNATELY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF LIFE IF THESE VEHICLES ARE NOT RECALLED. *TR

I PULLED OVER AND TURNED IT OFF AND WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES. WHEN RESTARTED WENT ABOUT FOUR MILES AND HAPPENED AGAIN. STOPPED, TURNED OFF, RESTARTED AND WENT A LITTLE FURTHER, BUT NOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. FORTUNATELY, BOTH TIMES NOT GOING 60 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY NO POWER HAD TOWED TO DEALER AND THIS TIME, REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. SAID IT WAS AN UPDATED VERSION. IF THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM AND HAVE AN UPDATED VERSION, WHY IS THERE NO RECALL? I THINK THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. *JB
