WHILE DRIVING, AT POSTED SPEED, 40MPH ....ALL AT ONCE, THERE WAS A COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION, A VERY ROUGH IDLE TO THE ENGINE AND A WRENCH ICON SHOWED ON THE DASH. I HAD TO QUICKLY PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO RESET AND THE WRENCH ICON DISAPPEARED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND THEIR COMPUTER TOOLS WERE NOT ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG (CODES WITH A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK). CAR SEEMED TO RUN FINE FOR APPROXIMATELY THE NEXT 500 MILES AND THEN, WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSIER ROAD AT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE DID THE EXACT SAME THING, AGAIN CAUSING ME TO NEED TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I, ONCE AGAIN, WAS ABLE TO RESET THE SYSTEM BY TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS ISSUE AND FEEL THAT I AM NOW LIMITED ONLY TO LOCAL TRAVEL.

MY CAR WAS STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT WITH A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AS I NEEDED TO TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. THE CAR WAS ON LEVEL GROUND SO IT WOULD NOT ROLL FORWARD OR BACKWARD. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE. THE CAR ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. I JAMMED ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE ENGINE WAS RACING AND I COULDN'T STOP MY CAR FROM HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I HAPPENED TO GLANCE AT THE TACHOMETER DURING THE INCIDENT AND SAW THE NEEDLE DROPPING BELOW 4,000 RPM. THE ENGINE RETURNED TO NORMAL RPMS AFTER THE COLLISION. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THE DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES WAS MINOR. BOTH VEHICLES WERE ABLE TO LEAVE THE SCENE UNDER THEIR OWN POWER.

DURING ACCELERATION THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND FAILED TO RESTART FOR A FEW MINUTES. THE ISSUE IS EXTREMELY INTERMITTENT.

CAR DOES THIS IN FIRST FIFTY MILES OR SOMETIMES GOES 100 MILES BEFORE DROPPING GEAR. CAR WAS BOUGHT 20 MONTHS AGO WITH 21C MILES AS CERTIFIED VEHICLE. NOW HAS 34C ON CAR. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD THIS PROBLEM. LAST TIME TESTED BY DEALER 3-2015.

EVEN THOUGH IS KNOWN WITH FORD THEY CODE WILL CLEAR WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF OR IN MY CASE SOMETIMES SHUT OFF BY ITSELF WHEN THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARS.06/02/15FORD DEALER DID A PCM UPDATE FOR THE T.BODY & WAS GOOD TO GO. LESS THAN A MONTH LATER ISSUES STARTED AGAIN. IT HAS HAPPENED COUNTLESS OF TIMES WITH MY BF & W.MY KIDS IN THE CAR. I CALLED DAVIDSON FORD & SPOKE TO THE MANGER WHERE HE STATED NOT TO SHUT THE CAR OFF SO THE CODE DOESNT CLEAR & I ASKED IF THE TOW GUY WOULD LEAVE THE CAR ON TO BRING IT HERE. HE GOES WELL NO! THEY WEREN'T OF HELP EVER.ON 03/07/16 HEADING HOME MY CAR WENT IN LIMP MODE & STEERING WENT STIFF. I COULDNT CONTROL THE CAR & ENDED UP HITTING A GUARD RAIL.MY CAR GOT DAMAGE & HURT MY BACK.THE OFFICER STATED I WAS LUCKY BC 20 MORE FT I WOULD OF HIT THE TELEPHONE POLE. THE TOW TRUCK GUY ALSO STATED THE CAR WASN'T SAFE TO DRIVE.THE NXT DAY MY BF CALLED FORD(WHO OPEN A CASE)& STATE FARM OUR INSUR.CO. WE WENT TO N.SIDE COLLISON WERE WE EXPLAINED THE SITUATION & RECALLS ON MY CAR.HE SAID HE WOULD TRY & TALK TO FORD TO SEE WHAT HE COULD DO. HE COULDN'T DO ANYTHING & WE HAD TO DEAL WITH FORD.THIS COLLISON CENTER WAS ON A TIME FRAME & REAL PUSHY.SO I HAD THE CAR TRANSFERRED TO ALAN BUYER COLLISON CENTER WHO WORKS W. MY INSUR. & FORD. WE'VE PLAYED PHONE TAG WITH FORD CSD. THE CLAIM WAS SENT TO FORDS LEGAL GENERAL COUNCIL WHOSE SUPPOSED TO HANDLE THE CASE & HAD 15 BUSINESS TO RESPOND. THEY HAVEN'T RESPONDED OR TRY TO MAKE CONTACT WITH US!I WAS ALSO TOLD BY FORDS CSD NOT TO HAVE THE COLLISON CENTER DO ANYTHING TILL WE HEAR FROM THE LEGAL COUNSEL. MY CAR HAS BEEN AT THE C.C 62+DAYS UNTOUCHED. I UPLOAD LETTER I SENT TO FORD COMPANY.

I AM FILING A FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT SUDDEN AND REPEATED SURGING OCCURRING ON MY 2011 FORD FUSION. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR SURGED AS I WAS BRAKING, THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD. THE SURGE THREW THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 10 FEET BEFORE IT SLOWED. I WAS ABLE TO TURN ONTO A SIDE STREET AND INTO A PARKING LOT TO TURN OFF THE CAR. AFTER QUIETING DOWN I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR, MAKING SURE THAT THERE WAS PLENTY OF ROOM BETWEEN ME AND WHATEVER CAR WAS AHEAD OF ME WHEN I BRAKED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. AFTER THE SECOND TIME IT SURGED, AS I WAS AGAIN BRAKING, I HAD THE CAR CHECKED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR OR ITS SETTINGS. THE CAR DID NOT SURGE WHEN IT WAS TEST-DRIVEN BY THE SERVICE PERSONNEL. TODAY, TUESDAY MARCH 3, 2015, IS THE THIRD TIME THE CAR HAS SURGED. I WAS PARKING THE CAR WHEN, AS I WAS BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE CAR SURGED FORWARD.. I TURNED THE STEERING TO AVOID THE TRUCK PARKED AHEAD OF ME. WHILE THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK, MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR-VIEW MIRROR WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AND MUST BE REPLACED. THE FORD SERVICE CENTER WHERE I TOOK THE CAR HAS ESTIMATED THAT IT WILL.COST OVER $400 TO REPLACE THE MIRROR. IN ADDITION THERE ARE A NUMBER OF SCRAPES ALONG THE SIDE OF THE CAR WHICH A BODY SHOP WILL HAVE TO REPAINT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. FORTUNATELY THERE HAVE NOT BEEN ANY PERSONAL INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THE SURGES TO DATE BUT I AM VERY NERVOUS ABOUT DRIVING THE CAR. I HAVE NOW SEEN IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING WITH FORD FUSIONS ON THIS AND OTHER AUTOMOBILE COMPLAINT SITES. THE PROBLEM PROGRESSED A FEW DAYS LATER TO SURGES IN POWER AND ALSO MY CAR THEN COMPLETELY DIED AT A RED LIGHT. IT IS NOW FOUR DAYS LATER AND THE PROBLEM HAS RAPIDLY INCREASED TO A PROBLEM OF DYING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND DYING WHILE IDLING SITTING IN THE DRIVE WAY. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM, I HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR, WAIT THIRTY SECONDS TO A MINUTE AND START THE CAR AGAIN. THE CAR STARTED A LITTLE ROUGH BUT RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. THE MAINTENANCE WRENCH LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED AND NO OTHER WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE SO FAR ABOUT A MONTH APART. WE WERE ONLY A COUPLE OF MILES FROM OUR HOUSE, SO HE DROVE BY 2011 FORD FUSION HOME AND I FOLLOWED IN HIS TRUCK. I THEN CALLED MY DEALER, JIM TIDWELL FORD ON BARRETT PARKWAY AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I CALL A WRECKER AND HAVE IT TOWED TO THEIR LOCATION AS DRIVING THE CAR MIGHT DUE FURTHER DAMAGE OR THE INCIDENT MIGHT RE-OCCUR. SO, THAT'S WHAT I DID. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS IMMEDIATELY TOLD THIS WAS PROBABLY A "THROTTLE BODY" PROBLEM. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THIS THE NEXT DAY AND PLACED AN ORDER FOR THE PART. THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER, I SUPPOSE DUE TO THE DEMAND FOR CORRECTION ON THIS PART. I WAS AGAIN TOWED AROUND THE BLOCK FROM TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT IT IS MY THROTTLE BODY POSITION SENSOR AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY, OR THE FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY. $600.00 LATER; I AM TRADING THIS CAR IN BECAUSE IT IS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVING WITH THIS POSSIBILITY OF LOSING ALL POWER AT A CRITICAL TIME. NOW MY CAR DIDN'T CUT OFF WHICH WAS SURPRISING, IT ONLY STALLED AND WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE. I EVENTUAL TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ONCE CRANKED UP THE CAR HESITATED B/4 FINALLY CRANKING UP AND ALLOWING ME TO MOVE ON. THIS ISSUE HAPPENED 6X ON TUES 8/20/2013 BEFORE MY CAR EVENTUALLY JUST WOULDN'T LET ME MOVE AT ALL.. TOOK THE CAR UP TOP AUTO-ZONE AND WAS ADV. AND STILL HAVE THE PRINT OUT OF THE ISSUE WHICH WAS THE THROTTLE STUCK OPEN/STUCK CLOSED.. TOOK THE CAR TO FORD WHO FIXED THE ISSUE FOR $520+, AND ADVISED ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS RELATED TO THE THROTTLE. I ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL, FORD COMPANY TOLD ME NO, THAT THERE IS NO RECALL AS OF YET, HOWEVER THE PART WAS OUT OF STOCK NATIONWIDE.. AND AFTER COMPLETING MY RESAEARCH I HAVE NOTICED THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE.. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REALLY IRRITATING FOR ME ESPECIALLY SINCE I TRAVEL OVER 45 MILES TO WORK EVERYDAY. MY 2011 FORD FUSION HAS REPEATEDLY EXPERIENCED THE SAME STALLING AND RANDOM SHUT-DOWNS THAT I KNOW UNDERSTAND MANY OTHER DRIVERS HAVE EXPERIENCED. USUALLY UPON ACCELERATING, MY VEHICLE WILL BUCK ABRUPTLY AND THEN SHUDDER AND RAPIDLY REDUCE SPEED UNTIL I AM ABLE TO SHUT IT OFF. THE INDICATOR LIGHT FOR THE TRANSMISSION TURNS ON AND OCCASIONALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. MOST OF THE TIME, THE VEHICLE WILL TURN RIGHT BACK ON AND BE ABLE TO DRIVE AS NORMAL, BUT SOMETIMES IT WILL REPEAT THE SAME BUCKING PROCESS VERY SHORTLY AFTER I RESUME DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO AN AUTO ZONE AND THE ENGINE CHECK THEY RAN RETURNED WITH AN ERROR MESSAGE SAYING "THROTTLE BODY SYSTEM STUCK OPEN" AND THAT IS WAS BEING HELD OPEN AT AN ANGLE LARGER THAN NEEDED. THANKFULLY, THIS HASN'T HAPPENED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN ANY PLACE THAT I COULD NOT PULL OVER SAFELY, BUT IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN WITH OTHER DRIVERS AROUND, NONETHELESS. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AND FRUSTRATING ISSUE AND ONE THAT I AM SHOCKED AND APPALLED TO FIND HAPPENS TO SO MANY OTHER DRIVERS. THEY SAID THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER BUT COULD DO A RUSH SHIPMENT AND HAVE IT WITHIN 10 DAYS. OUR FORD HAS ALWAYS BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP BUT WE DECIDED TO CALL OUR MECHANIC (NON FORD) IN TOWN TO SEE IF HE COULD GET THE PART QUICKER OR CHEAPER. HE CALLED ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND THEY HAD BEEN BACK ORDERED FOR OVER 6 MONTHS BUT MORE WERE EXPECTED IN BY OCTOBER 2013. WE CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE HAS BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE FORD THROTTLE BODY FOR YEARS, AND FORD REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I WOULD THINK FORD WOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT PROFITS WHEN THEIR CUSTOMER'S LIVES ARE IN DANGER FROM AN INFERIOR PART. TO TOP IT OFF WE HAVE ALSO BEEN HEARING A POPPING SOUND IN THE FRONT END. IF A PART IS ON BACK ORDER THIS TELLS ME THAT IT IS IN DEMAND AND THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING WHEN IT COME TO SOMETHING THAT AFFECTS THE SPEED OF YOUR CAR. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FRIEND OF MINE WHO IS A MECHANIC AND HAD HIM RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE CAR AND NO CODES SHOW UP. NEXT DAY IT HAPPENED TWICE, ONE OF THOSE TIMES JUST FROM THE START OF TURNING ON VEHICLE AND TRYING TO LEAVE PARKING LOT OF WORK, AND SECOND TIME WAS ON A 45MPH RD WHICH FELT DANGEROUS. SAME THING ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING AND IT COASTED DOWN TILL I COULD PUT IN PARK AND TURN OF VEHICLE AND TURN BACK ON. IT DOES NOT WORK IF YOU ARE COASTING AND PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF AND ON AS THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. AFRAID OF IT HAPPENING ON HIGHWAY. SEEMS LIKE A SOFTWARE OR SENSOR ISSUE WITH THROTTLE BODY AS WHEN YOU DO GIVE IT GAS ON THE PEDDLE IT FEELS LIKE THE THROTTLE PLATE IS BLOCKED OR TRYING TO OPEN UP BUT NOT ENOUGH TO GO JUST SMALL WEAK SPURTS. *TR

WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING LOSING POWER. SECONDS LATER IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND RESTART IT. THIS RESOLVED THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY BUT CAUSED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE MECHANIC'S THOUGHT IS THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. AFTER CHECKING UNDER THE HOOD, REPEATEDLY TRYING TO PUSH THE PEDAL AND CALLING ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, HE FINALLY TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED IT. THE THROTTLE SEEMED TO WORK FINE AND WE CONTINUED TO OUR DESTINATION. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE SAME THING OCCURRED. AGAIN WE WERE NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THERE WAS A SHOULDER AVAILABLE FOR US TO GET TO. THIS TIME HE IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT WITH EVERYTHING RETURNING TO NORMAL. TODAY WAS THE FOURTH TIME MY ACCELERATOR FAILED TO WORK ON MY CAR. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 65 AND AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER TELLS ME IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO TELL ME IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. FORD MOTOR REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL THE DEALER CAN REPRODUCE THIS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM OR ITS COMPUTER SYSTEMS CONFIRMS A PROBLEM. NEITHER COULD BE DONE WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE INTERNET DEMONSTRATES OTHERS WITH THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL REOCCUR IN AN INOPPORTUNE TIME CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND INJURY. WHEN IT OCCURS, THE ACCELERATOR STOPS WORKING, BUT THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING.
