2016 Ford Explorer Engine Problems

At around 50,000 miles the Turbo on the engine was leaking oil. Dealer replaced the turbo and kept the part. It needed to be replaced to avoid a catastrophic failure of the turbo which in turn could cause severe engine oil loss resulting in engine failure and oil contamination of the catalytic converters O2 sensors and possibly a car fire.

A engine getting hot light came on in our Explorer and we checked the coolant levels and most of the coolant had leaked out. We filled the coolant but the check engine light was still on.A mechanic did a thorough assessment and found 3 codes were being thrown. He discovered that the coolant was leaking into the combustion chamber.

I have read many complaints about exhaust entering this vehicle while driving. Ford's remedy is not correcting the defect. Some people have taken their vehicles to the dealer up to 7 times and the problem still exists.

I'm a victim of the wide spread electronic throttle body issue on the 2016 ford explorer, limited, fwd, 3.5v6. It only clocked 7000 miles and it happened when I was at around 40mph in the traffic, and all of sudden, both the check engine and airbag light turned on, steering wheel became heavy, and lost all the power, pressing the gas paddle couldn't accelerate the vehicle.

This complaint is for my new 2016 ford explorer that has the same issue as my previous ford explorer leaking exhaust fumes into the driver's cabin interior. The explorer suddenly decelerated while I was on the upside of a long bridge, the service engine light came on and the wrench light came on. With a police escort, I was able to drive the car over the bridge at 10 MPH. The servicing dealer told me the throttle body needs to be replaced.

My 2016 ford explorer is making a high pitch sound when the vehicle is being cut off. The sound has been diagnosed as a bad cooling fan bearing. I'm not sure of the extent but this cannot be a good thing if the bearing is bad for the cooling fan.

The water pump failed causing all loss of antifreeze. After doing extensive research, this is a known issue and ford refuses to fix the issue. To fix the issue a large part of the engine has to be torn down to access the water pump.

Driving on [XXX] when the engine began smoking (fogging) and I was unable to see. I stopped and could not go any further. Two cars nearly hit me.

This is a known issue with the 2018 Explorer. A warning came on the dash with a wrench that says, see manual along with the airbag light. The vehicle lost all power, went into a safe mode and would only idle rough.

This vehicle has 70000 miles and the water pump went bad already. Read hundreds of complaints and still no recall. This part is definitely faulty and Ford should have recalled it long ago.

Hello today after driving my 2016 ford explorer only down the street to the store it was fine I pulled back up at my house and it was fine I unloaded my toddler and took him inside and then went back and turned my SUV back on to back it into my driveway and it made a really loud humming sound like a vacuum or a high speed fan it didn't slow it didn't stop it only stayed loud I then left it parked on the street and it continued to make the sound its been 2 hours and its still going strong no key in the ignition or nothing and its still no my husband is pulling fuses out trying to get it to stop.

I was driving along at about 55 MPH with the cruise control activated. The pedals were not in the right locations so I decided to adjust them to a higher position with the button on the side of the steering column. When I did the adjustment, the engine went into a full throttle mode and would not let up.

Upon stronger than usual acceleration or at highway speeds or both, the smell of exhaust can be detected in the cabin. Under hard acceleration, the smell of rotten eggs becomes very strong in the cabin. After trips longer than an hour, with AC or heat running (no open windows), I have become very ill, with fearsome headache, nausea, lethargy, and gastrointestinal distress.
