There is a long-standing problem with the instrument panel being very difficult to see when operating the vehicle on a very sunny day. It is very dim even when the "instrument panel light control" is adjusted, especially when wearing sunglasses. No response by dealer.
I INHERITED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS 3RD GENERATION WHEN MY MOTHER PASSED A FEW YEARS AGO. I'VE SINCE HAD SEVERAL UNNECESSARY AND COSTLY PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR AS WELL AS DEALERSHIP'S OUTLOOK, TREATMENT, AND INDIFFERENCE TO THE DANGER THAT THEIR CUSTOMERS FACE--AS MANY ALREADY HAVE. THE FOLLOWING ARE SITUATIONS THAT I'M EXPERIENCING NOW. FIRST, I WAS RECENTLY LEAVING THE PHARMACY WHEN ALL OF MY WARNING LIGHTS (ABS, BRAKE, TRACTION ) SUDDENLY CAME ON AND MY BRAKES FAILED AS I WAS HEADING HOME. I'M A SINGLE MOTHER OF A SPECIAL NEEDS CHILD AND I HAD TO GET HOME TO HER. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE FROM MY HOME AND I WAS NEARLY IN 3 ACCIDENTS THAT COULD'VE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. THANKFULLY THE ROAD WAS DRY, CLEAR, AND WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC. WE HAVE BEEN HOMEBOUND FOR WEEKS, WITHOUT TRANSPORTATION FOR DOCTORS, FOOD, ETC. OUR VEHICLE IS OUR ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION, AND WE MUST GET TO DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS, ETC. SECOND, THE CAR HAS INEXPLICABLY STALLED TWICE. THIRD, I'M CONSTANTLY HAVING TO REPLACE LIGHTS, AND HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE FOR LIGHTS NOT WORKING. FINALLY, AN AIRBAG HAS BEEN RECALLED AND ONCE I CAN AFFORD IT I'LL GET THAT FIXED AS WELL. I SPOKE WITH MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS, AND AFTER EXPLAINING THE PROBLEMS, I WAS INFORMED (SEVERAL TIMES AS I WAS REPEATEDLY TRANSFERRED) THAT I HAD TO PAY AN INSPECTION FEE THAT ALSO CHANGED WITH EACH PERSON. FINALLY, I WAS TOLD I HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR THERE FOR DAYS AND THAT I WAS GOING TO PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THE CAR. I'M UNABLE TO PAY THAT MUCH MONEY--AND THE AMOUNT KEPT CHANGING AS WELL. I HAVE RESEARCHED THESE PROBLEMS AND NOW UNDERSTAND THE METHODOLOGY AND INTIMIDATION USED ON POOR PEOPLE SUCH AS MYSELF. TOYOTA SHOULD BE ASHAMED. FIX THESE PROBLEMS THAT WILL ENDANGER AND POSSIBLY KILL YOUR CUSTOMERS FOR NOTHING MORE THAN THEIR OWN INCOMPETENCE AND GREED.
HEADLIGHT BULBS KEEP GOING BLOWING CONSISTENTLY.VEHICLE STATIONARY
WAS GOING 25 MPH YESTERDAY NOVEMBER 22, 2020 EVENING WHEN 4 (BRAKE, ABS, TRACTION & CAUTION) LIGHTS CAME ON DASHBOARD. PULLED OVER THE SHOULDER & TURNED IGNITION OFF. RESTARTED LATER & 4 LIGHTS STILL ON. FOLLOWING DAY, WENT TO DEALERSHIP & WAS TOLD BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO INTERNAL FLUID LEAK.
LOW BEAM STARTED GETTING DIM, BUT WERE BRAND NEW. THEY BOTH SUDDENLY FAILED ON THE HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH. I REPLACED BULBS AND THEY WERE DIM AGAIN. I WENT TO BUY THE TOP LINE HEADLIGHTS THINKING THAT WAS THE ISSUE, BUT I DISCOVERED THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS CORRODED AND MELTED. ONCE I TURNED THE CAR ON IT BEGAN SMOKING. I CAN'T INSTALL ANY LIGHTS NOW. *TR
ABS SYSTEM FAILS, REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELT ISSUE, HEADLIGHT BULBS BURNED TOO MUCH
FIRST THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM FAILED, FOLLOWED BY THE PASSENGER LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT DAYS LATER. AFTER REPLACING BOTH LIGHTS, THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM FAILED FOLLOWED BY THE PASSENGER'S LOW BEAM.
TOYOTA PRIUS LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY GO OUT DUE TO KNOWN ISSUE WITH WIRE HARNESS. NO RECALL ISSUED AND OWNER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR COST OF REPAIR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF/FAIL. I HAVE REPLACED 7 LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN THE PAST YEAR, FOUR IN THE PAST 2 MONTHS. IN THE TWO MOST RECENT CASES BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED WITHIN MINUTES OF EACH OTHER WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAD A TOYOTA DEALER CHECK THE WIRING HARNESS PER TOYOTA WARRANTY NOTICE AFTER THE LAST OUTAGE AND THEY STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG. WHEN I HAD THE LIGHTS CHECKED BY A DIFFERENT TOYOTA DEALER IN JAN 2019 THEY INDICATED THE SOCKET FOR THE BULB WAS MELTED. BULBS HAVE GONE OUT UNDER, WET, DRY, HOT, AND COLD CONDITIONS. THE MOST RECENT OUTAGE OCCURRED ON MARCH 8, 2019 WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE..
PREVIOUSLY HAD NO ISSUES WITH LOW-BEAM LIGHTS. USED IN THE MORNING- WORKING FINE. CAME OUT AFTER WORK AND BOTH LOW-BEAM LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN ON. HIGH-BEAM LIGHTS WORK FINE. CAR WAS STATIONARY AND IN PARK WHEN LIGHTS WERE ATTEMPTED TO TURN ON. TRIED TURNING LIGHT SWITCH AND CAR OFF/ON MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS. HAD TO DRIVE HOME IN THE DARK WITH HIGH-BEAM LIGHTS.
ABS FAILED. WARNING LIGHTS DO NOT APPEAR. HEARD OTHERS HAVE SIMILAR ISSUE. TOYOTA WILL FIX THE ABS ONLY IF THE WARNING LIGHTS APPEAR. WARNING LIGHTS APPEAR ONLY WHEN CAR IS NOT ON COMPLETELY. BRAKES WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING AT ALL. BRAKES WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING. LIGHT BULB LEAKS MOISTURE HAS SINCE PURCHASE. LIGHT BULBS BLOW FREQUENTLY.
HEADLIGHT WOULD BURN OUT A YEAR AFTER REPLACEMENT. MANUFACTURER ISSUED A VARIANT OF A RECALL INTENDING TO PROVIDE A FIX FOR HIGH RATE OF BURNOUT. I TOOK MY CAR IN TO A DEALERSHIP TO RECEIVE THE FIX AND THE DEALERSHIP CAUSED A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER APPARATUS. WIPERS WOULD NOW WORK IF THE HEADLIGHTS WERE OFF, BUT WOULD NO LONGER WORK ONCE THE HEADLIGHTS WERE TURNED ON. THIS WOULD OCCUR WHETHER STATIONARY OR MOVING.
THERE'S A VOLUNTARY RECALL THAT TOYOTA IS DOING ON THE PRIUS RIGHT NOW THAT SEEMS DANGEROUS AND POORLY EXECUTED. THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WIRING HARNESS HAS A DEFECT THAT CAUSES IT TO BURN OUT HEADLIGHTS OR SHORT OUT IN A WAY THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WON'T WORK. SOMETIMES YOU CAN GET THE HEADLIGHTS WORKING AGAIN BY WIGGLING THE WIRING HARNESS, BUT I'VE HAD THIS OCCUR SEVERAL TIMES WHILE ON BACK COUNTRY ROADS AND YOU JUST HAVE 1 HEADLIGHT, WHICH SEEMS SUPER DANGEROUS. TOYOTA WON'T FIX IT UNLESS YOU COME IN WITH THE HEADLIGHT BUSTED WHICH MEANS YOU HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND EITHER DRIVE THE CAR AROUND ILLEGALLY WITH 1 WORKING HEADLIGHT OR JUST NOT DRIVE IT FOR A WEEK WHILE YOU WAIT FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT. THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT AND THEY NEED TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS WITHOUT HOOPS TO JUMP THROUGH.
I FIND MYSELF CHANGING MY HEADLIGHTS MORE FREQUENTLY WITH THE PRIUS THEN ANY OTHER CAR IVE EVER HAD. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND MOST DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. FRONT LIGHTS ARE NEEDED, I'D LIKE TO ASSUME THEY PUT THEM THERE FOR SAFETY, RIGHT? DRIVING WITH HFH BEAMS IS JUST RUDE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. DOUBLE SAFETY ISSUE HERE.
I KEEP HAVING TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS IN MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHAT IS GOING ON? MY COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK EVERYDAY IS 3 HOURS AND WITH DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME I AM USUALLY GOING TO WORK IN THE DARK OR COMING HOME IN THE DARK. MY LIGHTS WENT OUT ON MY WAY HOME IN THE DARK ONCE AND I HAD TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS TO GET HOME SAFE. I AM SURE THIS WAS BLINDING TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AS INDICATED WITH ALL THE FLASHING OF HIGH BEAMS I GOT.
EVERY 4 TO 6 MONTHS HEADLIGHTS ARE BURNING OUT.
THREE HEADLIGHT BULBS HAVE BURNED OUT REQUIRING REPLACEMENT BEFORE THE ODOMETER REACHED 70,000 MILES. TOYOTA SENT A NOTICE OF A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM IN 2017 ON THIS ISSUE, DESCRIBING THE PROPOSED REPAIR AS THE INSTALLATION OF "VOLTAGE ADJUSTMENT WIRE HARNESSES." AS INSTRUCTED, I TOOK MY 2010 PRIUS TO A DEALERSHIP ON JANUARY 19, 2018 AND WAS TOLD THAT IT REQUIRED A REPAIR, BUT THE PARTS WERE NOT IN STOCK AND WERE ON BACK ORDER. IN A FOLLOW UP CALL TO THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 26, 2016, THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THE PARTS WERE STILL ON BACK ORDER, AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF WHEN THEY MIGHT BE RECEIVED. THE ADMITTEDLY DEFECTIVE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN MY CAR CAN AND HAS CAUSED MY HEADLIGHTS TO BURN OUT PREMATURELY, WHICH IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. EVEN THOUGH TOYOTA RECOGNIZES THE PROBLEM, THEY SEEM TO BE DRAGGING THEIR FEET IN CORRECTING IT.
THE HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT, MAKING DRIVING AT NIGHT UNSAFE UNTIL YOU CAN GET IT FIXED. IT JUST HAPPENED AGAIN, MARCH, 29, 2018. IT HAPPENED 2/11, 6/11, 12/12, 1/13, 6/13, 3/15, 1/16, 7/17 AND NOW. IT WASN'T RAINING, NOTHING INTERESTING AT ALL. LOCAL DRIVING.
DRIVERS'S SIDE HEADLIGHT AND HIGH BEAM LIGHT GOING OUT AT SAME TIME. HEADLIGHT BULBS ON BOTH SIDES WERE CHANGED OUT IN NOVEMBER 2016 (A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR AGO) AND I ONLY HAVE A 10 MILE COMMUTE TO WORK. IN NOVEMBER OF 2016 DRIVER'S SIDE LIGHT WAS ALSO THE ONE THAT BURNED OUT.
EXITING OFF FREEWAY AT S. MAIN IN WALNUT CREEK CALIFORNIA AT APPX 45MPH BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. COULD NOT BE TURNED ON. INTERIOR HEADLIGHT INDICATOR REMAINED ON BUT HEADLIGHTS REMAINED OFF. HIGHBEAMS WORKED.
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS TEND TO GO OUT EVERY 2 TO 3 MONTHS SOMETIMES ONE AT A TIME AND SOMETIMES BOTH.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY LOW BEAMS AT LEAST EIGHT TIMES OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS. THE TIME BETWEEN THEM BURNING OUT GETS SHORTER EVERY TIME. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT BRANDS AND QUALITY OF BULBS, AND I ALWAYS REPLACE THEM IN PAIRS. MY LAST TWO PAIRS ARE SO DIM THAT I CANNOT EVEN SEE THE ROAD. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER TWICE FOR THESE HEADLAMPS, AND NOW I TRY TO AVOID NIGHTTIME DRIVING, BUT IT IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND KNOWN TO TOYOTA. I DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS FOR THIS EXPENSIVE WIRING FIX AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE DOES NOT WARRANT A RECALL.
WE HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON OUR 2010 PRIUS FOR 3-4 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER REPORTED THE ISSUE. AT LEAST TWICE PER YEAR, ONE OF THE HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES IT'S THE LEFT, SOMETIMES IT'S THE RIGHT. WE HAVE ALWAYS HAD TO REPLACE THE BULBS AFTER THESE EVENTS. (EXPENSIVE). TONIGHT, (11/9/2017), WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND THE DARK BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. AN ONLINE SEARCH REVEALED THAT PRIUS HEADLIGHT COMPLAIHTS ARE NUMEROUS WITH ISSUES BEING REPORTED FOR YEARS. WE LAST REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT BULBS ONE MONTH AGO
IN THE PAST YEAR, MY PRIUS HAS BLOWN OUT HEADLIGHTS 5 TIMES ON BOTH SIDES AND LOW AND HIGH BEAM. THIS IS NT ONLY A DANGEROUS PROBLEM BUT AND EXPENSIVE ONE. THEY SAY UNLESS ALL THE BULBS WERE REPLACED BY A DEALERSHIP, THEY CANNOT DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM. I HAVE THE BULBS REPLACED IMMEDIATELY U[ON DISCOVERY. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THESE BULB AND INSTALLATION COSTS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM.
THE LOW-BEAM HEADLIGHTS GENERALLY MUST BE REPLACED EVERY 4 TO 6 MONTHS; OCCASIONALLY ONE LOW-BEAM WILL LAST A YEAR, BUT MAY GO OUT AND COME BACK ON INTERMITTENTLY, WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY CONCERN, BUT I HAVE RECEIVED REPEATED VEHICLE DEFECT TICKETS THAT MUST CONSTANTLY BE ADDRESSED BY VISITING A REPAIR SHOP TO DEMONSTRATE THAT I FIXED THE BULB MYSELF. THE SHOP MUST SIGN THE PAPERWORK TO ATTEST THE DEFECTIVE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN FIXED BEFORE I CAN MAIL THE FORM TO ABSOLVE THE TICKET. THIS PROCESS IS TIME-CONSUMING AND HAPPENS FOR ONE HEADLIGHT, THE SIX WEEKS LATER, TO THE OTHER HEADLIGHT. PRESENTLY, I JUST REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW-BEAM TWO WEEKS AGO. THREE DAYS AGO, THE DRIVER SIDE LOW-BEAM WENT OUT. I BOUGHT A NEW BULB BUT THE LOW-BEAM STILL DIDN'T WORK. I RETURNED THAT BULB FOR ANOTHER NEW BULB WHICH DIDN'T SEEM TO WORK EITHER. MY HUSBAND THOUGHT TO TEST THE BULB ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND DISCOVERED THAT BOTH THE NEW BULB AND THE CURRENT BULB THAT WE THOUGHT WAS BLOWN BOTH WORK!! NOW, WE ARE WONDERING HOW MANY BULBS WE REPLACED THAT WERE ACTUALLY WORKING!!! MY HUSBAND ALSO CHECKED THE FUSES, WHICH ARE FINE. IT SEEMS THERE MUST BE A CONNECTION ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE RESOLVED. I HAVE SOME OF THE INVOICES AND DEFECT TICKETS BUT THEY AREN'T WITH ME AT THE MOMENT.
HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT OFTEN AND ARE EXTREMELY DIM MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE WITHOUT USING BRIGHTS. LIGHTS ARE THE SAME STATIONARY AS WELL AS DRIVING
THE HEADLIGHT BURN OUT VERY FREQUENTLY AND MOST RECENTLY THE SHOP INFORMED ME THAT THE LIGHT DOES NOT STAY IN THE ASSEMBLY BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAS MELTED. I AM FORCED TO DRIVE WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS AND THIS IS VERY UNSAFE. NEW HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES COST AT A MINIMUM OF $100 EACH AND I AM HAVING PROBLEMS SHIPPING THE ITEMS TO GUAM WHERE I RESIDE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WOULD FAIL APPROXIMATELY EVERY TWO MONTHS. THE CONTACT HAD TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAM LIGHTS APPROXIMATELY 20 TIMES SINCE 2010. THE CONTACT CALLED THE JEYES TOYOTA DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE'S LOW BEAM HEAD LAMPS FAILED AND THE LOW BEAM LIGHTING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
I REPEATEDLY MUST REPLACE MY LOW HEAD-BEAM LIGHTS IN MY 2010 PRIUS. THEY HAVE BEEN GOING OUT AT A RATE OF 2-4 TIMES A YEAR. I BUY MID TO HIGH RANGE QUALITY BULBS AND ARE VERY CAREFUL TO KEEP THE BULBS CLEAN DURING INSTALLATION. I NOTICE THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES. HOW CAN WE GET THIS ESCALATED TO TOYOTA!
BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DO NOT GO ON AT ALL. WERE WORKING PROPERLY ON WAY TO A DESTINATION AT 9PM, THEN DID NOT GO ON AFTER CAR WAS PARKED AFTER 2 HOURS. THIS HAS NEVER OCCURRED BEFORE. BULBS ARE NOT BURNED OUT, FUSE IS NOT BLOWN. ALL OTHER MECHANISMS ON FUSE WORKING PROPERLY (BACKUP LIGHTS, HORN). PARKING LIGHTS AND HI-BEAMS WORK. VERY DANGEROUS DRIVE HOME, USE OF HI-BEAMS ON SURFACE STREETS NOT SAFE FOR OTHER DRIVERS.
MY TOYOTA PRIUS IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER, AS I JUST GOT IT INSPECTED FOR THE NY STATE ANNUAL INSPECTION ON 3/23/2017. LAST NIGHT, 4/2/2017, I DROVE MY CAR TO A RESTAURANT AND PARKED IT THERE. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR TO LEAVE AFTER MY MEAL, I TURNED ON THE IGNITION AND SWITCHED THE HEADLIGHTS TO TURN ON WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND PARKED, BUT BOTH APPEARED TO HAVE BURNED OUT SUDDENLY. ONLY THE RUNNING LIGHTS SWITCHED ON. TO DRIVE HOME, I HAD TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS. I TRIED TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF, AND SWITCHING THE HEADLIGHTS ON AND OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED, IDLE AND IN MOTION TO SEE IF THEY'D TURN BACK ON, BUT THEY WOULDN'T. WHEN I GOT HOME, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A LONG-STANDING PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL OF CAR, AS WELL AS PRIUSES MADE IN THE YEARS PRIOR. EARLIER I REPORTED THAT BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY. MY MECHANIC REPLACED BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND THEY NOW WORK. 37 MONTHS AGO THE SAME THING HAPPENED. IT SEEMS HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT THIS IS JUST A COINCIDENCE. FORTUNATELY THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS CLOSE TO HOME BUT THIS TIME I WAS NOT.
I KEEP REPLACING THE LOW BEAMS. THEY DO NOT LAST LONGER THAN 3 MONTHS BEFORE THEY BURN OUT AGAIN. I'M BUYING HIGH END REPLACEMENT BULBS THAT SHOULD BE LASTING YEARS. HEADLIGHTS FAIL FREQUENTLY. THIS HAPPENED OVER A PERIOD OF 18 MONTHS. IT BEGAN WITH A FRONT DRIVER-SIDE HEADLIGHT NOT WORKING, THEN BOTH HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING - EACH WAS REPLACED WHEN NOTICED THEY WERE NOT WORKING. THE MOST RECENT TIME, 5 MONTHS AFTER THE LAST REPLACEMENT, I NOTICED ONE HEADLIGHT WAS OUT AGAIN, THEN, WHILE IN PARK, WITH THE CAR STILL ON, I TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF THEN ON AGAIN, AND AFTER THAT BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND ONE DAYTIME RUNNING WILL NOT WORK. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS.

I PURCHASED THE MOST EXPENSIVE BULBS AT MY LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE AND REPLACE THE BULBS. THEY WORKED GREAT UNTIL ABOUT AN HOUR AGO. I STARTED MY CAR AND WHEN I TURNED THE HEAD LIGHTS ON, BOTH OF THEM CAME ON FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND AND THEN IMMEDIATELY WENT OUT. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH MY BRIGHT LIGHTS ON.I STARTED READING PRIUS FORUMS AND CAME TO REALIZE THAT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PRIUS MODEL AND YEAR WERE HAVING THE SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS IN THEIR CARS. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE MY LOW BEAM HEAD LAMPS 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. FIRST I WAS ON A 2 HOUR LONG TRIP WHEN MY PASSENGER AND I COULD SPECIFICALLY SEE BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE GETTING DIM. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR OF DRIVING THEY HAD BOTH GONE OUT COMPLETELY AND I WAS FORCED TO USE MY HIGH BEAMS ON THE INTERSTATE. WHEN WE ARRIVED IN TOWN, BOTH BULBS WERE REPLACED AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE BULB LASTED 3 MONTHS BEFORE DYING OUT. I RODE AROUND LIKE THAT FOR A WEEK BECAUSE I KEPT FORGETTING UNTIL I'D DRIVE AT NIGHT AND THE SHOPS WERE CLOSED. SO ABOUT A WEEK AFTER MY DRIVER'S SIDE BULB DIED, I WENT TO THE AUTO STORE AND BOUGHT A NEW BULB, ONLY TO FIND OUT MY PASSENGER SIDE BULB HAD GONE OUT THAT SAME DAY; I DIDN'T NOTICE BECAUSE IT WAS DURING THE DAY. THANKFULLY I WAS ALREADY AT THE AUTO SHOP AND WAS ABLE TO HAVE TWO NEW BULBS INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME. WELL...WITH MY BRAND NEW BULBS I WAS CONFIDENT THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE FINE THIS GO-AROUND AND THEY WERE BRIGHT FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. UNTIL MY DRIVER'S SIDE BULB WENT OUT UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN I WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. I WAS GETTING READY TO LEAVE AND SAW THE REFLECTION ON MY NEIGHBOR'S WINDOW -- NO MORE DRIVER'S SIDE LIGHT. I PUT MY PLANS ON HOLD UNTIL I WENT TO THE AUTO SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE BULB NO PROBLEM. FOUR DAYS LATER, THE PASSENGER SIDE BULB GOES OUT. I'M FED UP WITH HAVING TO GET NEW BULBS EVERY FEW MONTHS (OR DAYS FOR THAT MATTER). IT'S OCCURRED WHEN I WAS PARKED, DRIVING SLOW IN THE CITY, AND GOING FAST ON THE INTERSTATE. IN 2014 MY REGULAR BEAM HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. THE DEALERS WANTED $130 TO PUT IN A NEW BULB SAYING THE BUMPER HAD TO BE REMOVED. MY HUSBAND BOUGHT A BULB AT THE AUTO PARTS STORE AND INSTALLED IT WITHOUT REMOVING THE BUMPER. SINCE THEN I HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL BULBS ON BOTH SIDES AND WAS FINALLY TOLD BY SYLVANIA THAT I NEED TO CHANGE BOTH AT THE SAME TIME WHICH I DID ABOUT A MONTH AGO. A COUPLE OF NIGHTS AGO, I STARTED THE CAR AND BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT AND THE FUSES WERE INTACT. I PUT IN TWO MORE BULBS, BUT I CAN BARELY SEE WITH THEM ALTHOUGH THEY ARE LIT. THE BEAM IS VERY WEAK. THE DEALERS WANT OVER $100 TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC TO FIND THE PROBLEM OR BEFORE THEY WILL GIVE ME A QUOTE OF THE COST TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM AS STATED BY TOYOTA IN A TECHNICAL BULLETIN. THIS WAS MY THIRD PRIUS, AND LAST ONE. *TR

MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS BEGAN HAVING CHRONIC PROBLEMS WITH EXTERIOR LIGHT GOING OUT, STARTING IN MAY 2016 AND PERSISTING UNTIL NOW (NOVEMBER 2016). WE HAVE REPLACE THE BULBS REPEATEDLY JUST TO HAVE THEM GO OUT AGAIN. I CONSIDER THIS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, AND MAKES THIS VEHICLE UNRELIABLE. DEALERSHIP DENIES A SYSTEM FAILURE AND SUGGESTS TO REPLACE BULBS WITH EXPENSIVE ONES. THIS DOES NOT REMEDY THE PR OBLEM.
THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS CONSTANTLY BURN OUT. MY CAR IS AT 108,500 MILES, AND I HAVE REPLACED THE LOW BEAM BULBS AT LEAST 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. I HAVE HAD THIS OCCUR WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE 5. ANOTHER DRIVER ON THE HIGHWAY FLASHED LIGHTS AT ME, PULLED UP NEXT TO ME, TO INDICATE THAT MY LIGHTS WERE OUT. I HAD TO DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ON FOR OVER 20 MILES. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, BECAUSE IT WAS BLINDING TO OTHER DRIVERS. HOWEVER, IF I HAD NOT DONE THIS, I WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH NO LIGHTS AT ALL. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES AFTER REPLACING THE BULBS, WHICH WILL LAST FOR A WHILE ,BUT QUICKLY STOP WORKING. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS EVEN ONCE.
THREE TIMES IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS I HAVE HAD MY ONE OR THE OTHER OF MY HEADLIGHTS DIM AND GO OUT. THE FIRST TIME I REPLACED BOTH HEADLIGHTS ASSUMING THE LIGHT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED SO I SHOULD JUST DO BOTH. IT HAS OCCURRED TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES AND FINALLY, LAST NIGHT, I RETURNED TO MY PARKED CAR TO DISCOVER BOTH HEADLIGHTS WERE OUT. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE HOME SWITCHING BETWEEN HIGH BEAMS AND NO LIGHTS. REPLACING BULBS EVERY FEW MONTHS SEEMS EXCESSIVE. LOSING HEADLIGHTS IN THE DARK IS DANGEROUS. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE INITIATED.

THE TOYOTA DEALER I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO IN MAY 2016 TOLD ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEM, THEY'D NEVER HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS, AND THAT I JUST NEEDED TO BUY "EXPENSIVE" BULBS. AFTER INSTALLING THE MOST EXPENSIVE BULBS I COULD FIND, BOTH HEADLIGHTS BURNED OUT WITHIN 60 DAYS. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING BUYING NEW BULBS EVERY 2 MONTHS.

TOYOTA ISSUED A TSB IN 10/12 ABOUT A FIX INVOLVING MODIFICATION TO THE WIRING HARNESS BUT SAYS THEY WILL ONLY REPAIR THIS PROBLEM FOR CARS UNDER 36K MILES OR 36 MONTHS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE, WHICH MEANS MANY OF THE CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM WERE ALREADY OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD WHEN THE TSB WAS ISSUED. NO HEADLIGHTS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ANY OWNER WITH THIS PROBLEM AT NO COST. IT APPEARS THAT THE COST OF HAVING THIS TSB DONE IS SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS.
ON APRIL 14, BOTH MY LOW-BEAM STOPPED WORKING. UNFORTUNATELY I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE HOME IN THE DARK, ON A WINDING CANYON ROAD ALTERNATING BETWEEN NO LIGHT AND HIGH-BEAMS. I TOOK MY CAR THE NEXT MORNING TO TOYOTA OF N. HOLLYWOOD FOR REPAIR. I ASSUMED IT WOULD BE A FUSE OR LOOSE WIRE. I THOUGHT IT HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT BOTH LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT AT THE EXACT SAME TIME. MY SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THIS WAS NOT UNCOMMON. HE QUOTED ME $110 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. RELUCTANTLY I GAVE THE "GO-AHEAD" FOR THE REPLACEMENT (WHAT CHOICE DID I REALLY HAVE???). ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER LEAVING MY CAR FOR THE REPLACMENT, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE MGR. INFORMING ME THAT THE HOUSING ON FOR THE LEFT LIGHT WAS "MELTED" AND IT WOULD NEED TO ALSO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $350. I ASKED IF THIS WAS COVERED UNDER WARRENTY (2010 CAR WITH 40300 MILES) AND WAS TOLD NO. I SAID THAT THIS SOUNDS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW, AS SURELY THE WHEN THE HOUSING WAS CREATED, THE HEATING ELEMENT AND OUTPUT OF THE STANDARD LIGHT BULB WOULD BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION IN THE DESGN. MY SERVICE MGR. INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOT UNCOMMON AS IT HAPPENS TO TACOMA'S QUITE FREQUENTLY. AGAIN, I RELUCTANTLY GAVE THE GREEN LIGHT FOR THE REPAIR, AND REQUESTED THAT I BE GIVEN ALL PARTS UPON WHEN I PICKED UP MY CAR. AFTER GETTING OFF THE PHONE, I REALIZED THROUGH AN ONLINE SEARCH THAT 1) THERE WAS A RECALL IN PLACE FOR 2004-2009 PRIUS FOR LIGHTING ISSUES; AND 2) THERE WAS A RECALL FOR TACOMA'S FOR THE MELTING ISSUE. CLEARLY THIS IS STILL A ISSUE. I FOUND ANOTHER PERSON ON THIS VERY SITE WHO SHARED THE VERY SAME PROBLEM HE HAD FOUR DAYS BEFORE ME. THE RECALL FOR THE PRIUS MUST BE EXTENDED. LOOKING ONLINE, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS GOING BEYOND THE SCOPE OF THE YEARS INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL. THIS LITTLE REPAIR COST OVER $540 DOLLARS. SHAMEFUL ON TOYOTA.

THEY WOULD NOT COME BACK ON. ONLY THE HIGH-BEAMS WERE FUNCTIONAL. AFTER SPEAKING WITH MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE OF A FAULTY WIRING HARNESS. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO REPLACE THE FAULTY WIRING. I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO COMPREHEND HOW A CAR'S MOST BASIC SAFETY FEATURE, MAYBE ASIDE FROM THE BRAKES, IS SUFFERING FROM A KNOWN ISSUE AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. WITHOUT AN INTERVENTION IN THIS MATTER, TOYOTA'S WILLINGNESS TO IGNORE THIS PROBLEM, AS THEY HAVE WITH MANY OTHERS IN THE PAST, WILL CERTAINLY LEAD TO DEATH.

I BROUGHT IN MY PRIUS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER THIS EVEN THOUGH I HAVE THE PLATINUM WARRANTY.

IF THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDED TO BE UPDATED, TOYOTA CLEARLY KNEW THERE WAS AN ISSUE CAUSING THE HEADLIGHTS TO SHORT. I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE THAT I CANNOT DRIVE SAFELY BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX TOYOTA'S DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT!
HEADLIGHTS HAVE GONE OFF WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. REPLACEMENT OF THE BULBS BEGAN IN 2013. ONLY RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE AND BACK ROADS,DID WE REALIZE THAT WERE SOMETIMES WORKING AND THIS WAS A REOCCURRING ISSUE.

HOWEVER, ON 2 OCCASIONS THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE "SYSTEM" I FINE AND THAT I HAVE TO BE MORE CAREFUL IN REPLACING THE BULBS. THE CAR CAN BE PARKED, OR ACTIVE. THERE IS NOW WARNING OR SPECIFIC MILAGE. SEEMS RANDOM. MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE 01/24/2016.

I TURNED AROUND TO HEAD BACK HOME WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE LAMP WENT OUT AS WELL. I WAS ONLY A FEW BLOCKS FROM HOME AT LEAST BUT THIS IS COULD HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS.
REPETITIVE AND FREQUENT LOW BEAM BULB FAILURES. REPLACEMENT BULBS LASTING ONLY 3 TO 6 MONTHS BEFORE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. ALWAYS DRIVE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON LOW BEAM DURING THE DAY.

ON FEBRUARY 27, 2015, OUR HOUSE BURNED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHILE WE WERE ASLEEP. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE NEAR VICINITY OF THE RIGHT FRONT HEADLIGHT OF THE 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED JUST BEFORE THE FIRE ON FEBRUARY 25, 2015 AT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WAS OFF AT THE TIME AND THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. WHILE WE WERE SLEEPING, THE CAR EVIDENTLY CAUGHT FIRE SPONTANEOUSLY AT APPROXIMATELY 2 A.M. WHILE IT WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE. THE GARAGE DOOR WAS CLOSED. BY THE TIME WE WOKE UP, THE GARAGE WAS FULLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. WE WERE ABLE TO ESCAPE THE FIRE. HOWEVER, OUR HOUSE WAS TOO SEVERELY DAMAGED (FIRE, SMOKE AND WATER) AFTER THE FIRE TO BE LIVABLE, AND IT IS CURRENTLY BEING REBUILT. OUR FAMILY OF FOUR (HUSBAND, WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN, 15 AND ALMOST 11 YEARS OLD) IS CURRENTLY LIVING IN A RENTAL HOUSE. WE LOST ALL THREE OF OUR CARS (THE OTHER CARS WERE A DODGE DURANGO AND A HONDA ACCORD) AND A MAJORITY OF OUR POSSESSIONS. DAMAGES ARE ESTIMATED TO BE LIKELY IN EXCESS OF $500,000 INCLUDING HOUSE, CARS, DAMAGE TO LANDSCAPING, PERSONAL PROPERTY, FURNITURE, CLOTHING, ETC. OUR HOMEOWNER'S INSURANCE IS SEEKING A SUBROGATION CLAIM AGAINST TOYOTA FOR THE EXPENSES INCURRED REGARDING OUR CLAIM. THE PRIUS IS SCHEDULED TO HAVE A DECONSTRUCTIVE EXAM SOON WITH MULTIPLE PARTIES PRESENT AND IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD AS EVIDENCE.
I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 2010. ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THE HEADLIGHT BULBS STARTED BURNING OUT REPEATEDLY, AS WELL AS THE MARKER BULBS AND THE LICENSE PLATE BULBS. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS CHILLING. I RETURNED FROM A TRIP, GOT OFF THE PLANE, PICKED UP MY CAR AT AIRPORT PARKING, TURNED ON THE HEADLIGHTS AND THEY WERE BOTH OUT. I HAD TO DRIVE 45 MILES HOME AT 10 PM EITHER WITHOUT HEADLIGHTS OR WITH MY BRIGHTS ON. IT WAS TERRIFYING. THE BULBS HAD BEEN REPLACED WITHIN THE PREVIOUS 6 MONTHS. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT NHTSA AND TOYOTA MUST ADDRESS. I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. ADDITIONALLY, THE HEADLIGHT CASINGS ARE MARRED, WHICH DIMINISHES VISIBILITY. TOYOTA CLEARLY HAS USED DEFECTIVE PARTS TO ENCASE THE HEADLIGHTS. AGAIN, MY FRIENDS WITH PRIUSES HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
ONE OR BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND FRONT PARKING LIGHTS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED FOUR TIMES NOW, STARTING IN 2012. LATEST INCIDENT IS JULY 2015.
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON THIS CAR HAVE BEEN BURNING OUT FREQUENTLY (APPROXIMATELY EVERY SIX MONTHS) SINCE THIS FIRST INCIDENT. IN ONE INCIDENT IN DECEMBER, 2014, BOTH LIGHTS BURNED OUT AT THE SAME TIME.
THIS WAS APPROXIMATELY THE DATE WHEN MY FIRST HEADLIGHT BLEW. THE OTHER HEADLIGHT BLEW WITHIN A COUPLE MONTHS. I WENT FOR THREE YEARS CHANGING HEADLIGHTS EVERY SIX MONTHS OR SO. TWICE, BOTH HEADLIGHTS BLEW AND I HAD TO UNSAFELY DRIVE HOME (70 MILES) WITH MY BRIGHTS ON. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS MODEL AND YEAR HAD A WIRING HARNESS "BULLET" AND THE COST TO REPLACE IT WAS ON ME. AT THE TIME, THAT WAS ALMOST $400, WHICH I DID NOT HAVE. THIS ISSUE HAS CAUSE ME TO REPLACE ONE (SOMETIMES BOTH) HEADLIGHTS EVERY SIX MONTHS (IF I'M LUCKY TO GO THAT LONG). IT HAS ALSO CAUSED THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING TO OVERHEAT AND HAS MADE THE INSIDE OF THE HOUSING "FUZZY." THIS, IN TURN, MAKES IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE IN THE DARK WITH JUST MY DIM LIGHTS ON SO DRIVING AT NIGHT IS DANGEROUS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS DANGEROUS. BOTH HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT AT ONE TIME BECAUSE OF A FAULTY WIRING HARNESS CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION. HAVING TO DRIVE WITH MY BRIGHTS ON CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC. DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH MY DIMS ON IS LIKE DRIVING WITH NO LIGHTS ON AT ALL.
VEHICLE'S BRAKE LAMP BULBS STOPPED WORKING (HEADLAMPS ON/OFF NO CHANGE EXCEPT THE UPPER BULB ON THE REAR LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED W/HEADLAMPS/HIGH BEAMS ON AS THEY SHOULD BE WHILE THE REST OF THE LIGHT IS INDIFFERENT TO BRAKE PEDAL APPLICATION, CHANGING FROM PARK/DRIVE ETC). THE BULBS WERE REPLACED BUT THE ISSUE PERSISTS, SUSPECT IT IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE WIRING HARNESS. PLEASE REMEDY BECAUSE ANY ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC IS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND MAY NOT EVEN BE OBLIGATORY IF A KNOWN ISSUE & COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION EXIST. REGARDLESS OF COST TOYOTA SHOULD OFFER ANY REMEDY THAT PROTECTS THE SAFETY OF THEIR CONSUMERS. I JUST DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO PAY A BUNCH OF MONEY TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM WAS A LOOSE SCREW. ANYWAY, FAULTY BRAKE/TAIL LIGHTS INCREASE THE POSSIBILITY OF COLLISION & ENDANGER OTHER DRIVERS WHEN A DEFECT OF THIS NATURE PRESENTS ITSELF. BOTH RIGHT & LEFT ARE AFFECTED, THERE IS NO VISIBLE WARNING THE VEHICLE IS SLOWING RATHER THAN DRIVING, STOPPED, IDLING, OR ACCELERATING.
I PURCHASED THE TOYOTA CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED PRIUS IN JULY 2013. I FIRST HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE HEADLIGHT IN AUGUST 2014 WHEN THE HEADLIGHT KEPT COMING LOOSE FROM IT'S CASING. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON APRIL 24, 2015 ONLY THIS TIME THE HEADLIGHT FELL TO REST ON SOME PLASTIC AND CAUSED THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY TO START ON FIRE. NO ONE WAS INJURED. I USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. I BELIEVE THE SOCKET PART OF THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE. *TR

INITIALLY MOVING THE WIRING HARNESS WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE LIGHT WILL CAUSE THE LOW BEAM TO COME BACK ON, BUT THEN WILL FAIL AGAIN WITHOUT NOTICE. AFTER DOING THIS SEVERAL TIME OVER AN UNDETERMINED PERIOD OF TIME (UNDETERMINED BECAUSE IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME) MOVING THE HARNESS FAILS TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THE LIGHT BULB NEEDS TO BE REPLACED (I'M ASSUMING MOVING THE HARNESS TO GET THE BULB TO RELIGHT EVENTUALLY CAUSES THE BULB TO FAIL). I PURCHASED TWO NEW LOW BEAM BULBS APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO AND AM NOW RETURNING TO THE STORE THIS MORNING THIS MORNING TO PURCHASE ANOTHER SET OF BULBS, WHICH WILL THEN LEAD TO MOVING THE WRITING HARNESS TO GET THE BULBS TO RELIGHT, WHICH WILL THEN ONCE AGAIN LEAD TO EARLY FAILURE OF THE NEW BULBS. *TR

I DO NOT HAVE THE NEED TO DO MUCH NIGHT DRIVING. LAST SATURDAY, WHILE RETURNING FROM A FAMILY VISIT, NIGHT HAD APPROACHED. THE DIM LIGHTS WERE NEXT TO WORTHLESS. THE CARS APPROACHING ME FROM BEHIND LIT MY PATH. I HAD VISITED TOYOTA A FEW WEEKS BACK AND THEY ADVISED ME THE HEADLIGHT BULB WAS LOOSE. I TIGHTENED IT, BUT THAT NIGHT, THE ILLUMINATION OF THE HEADLIGHTS WAS LACKING. I RETURNED TO TOYOTA TODAY AND THEY TELL ME THESE HEADLIGHTS HAVE A "PROJECTOR" THAT IS BAD...BOTH SIDES! THERE IS NO RECALL OR MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THAT COVERS THE REPLACEMENT. THEY WILL GLADLY REPLACE THESE FOR $852.00. I HAVE REGARDED TOYOTA AS A TOP CONTENDER IN CAR MANUFACTURING. I AM TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED AND APPALLED THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS NOT COVERED BY TOYOTA. *TR

ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT BEFORE THE SHORT IN THE LOW BEAMS, THE MARKER LIGHTS HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE COMPANY WHO STATES THIS PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED WITH THE 09 MODEL YEAR AND REFUSE TO ADMIT OR ASSIST WITH REPAIRS OF THE KNOWN ELECTRICAL DEFECT. *TR

I HAVE HAD REPEATED ISSUES WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS SINCE PURCHASING MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS BURN OUT AND HAVE TO BE REPLACED EVERY 2-6 MONTHS. REPLACEMENT BULBS HAVE INCLUDED BULBS PURCHASED FROM TOYOTA AND AUTO PARTS STORES VARYING IN PRICE LEVEL AND LUMENS. I HAVE HAD TWO INSTANCES WHERE BOTH HEADLIGHTS SIMULTANEOUSLY MALFUNCTIONED WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. THE FIRST WAS WHEN I HAD MY CAR TURNED OFF FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE LIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CHECKED THE HEADLIGHT BULB CONNECTIONS. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES USING THE HIGH BEAMS. I TOOK MY CAR TO OXMOOR TOYOTA, THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW, AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THAT MY CAR WAS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. THEY REPLACED BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS WITH TOYOTA BULBS. THE SECOND TIME THAT BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FAILED THE CAR WAS PARKED BUT RUNNING WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE SWITCHED OFF BUT THE CAR REMAINED RUNNING. WHEN I SWITCHED THE LIGHTS ON, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. I TURNED CAR OFF AND CHECKED THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB CONNECTIONS. THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, BACKUP LIGHTS, AND BRAKE LIGHTS FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. I DROVE HOME APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES WITH THE HIGH BEAMS. ONCE HOME, I VERIFIED THAT THE FUSE WAS NOT BURNED OUT. TWO MONTHS LATER THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. I DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BROUGHT MY CAR TO SEE IF TOYOTA HAD FOUND A SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT THEY ONLY ISSUE WAS THE BURNED OUT LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB. *TR
AFTER LEAVING A SKATING EVENT WITH 4 KIDS IN MY CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 8:30 PM, I NOTICED THAT I HAD NO HEADLIGHTS WHICH HAD WORKED 2 1/2 HOURS PRIOR. BOTH LIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. ALL OTHER LIGHTS WORKED, INCLUDING HIGH BEAMS WHICH I USED TO CONTINUE DRIVING THAT EVENING. I CALLED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT "THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 2010 PRIUS. I MADE THE APPOINTMENT TO TAKE MY CAR IN FOR REPAIR AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WOULD BE $800 TO FIX THE PROBLEM SINCE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. WHEN I DROPPED MY CAR OFF, THE SERVICE REP SHOWED ME A SPEC SHEET STATING THAT I NEEDED A "HEADLAMP DURABILITY ENHANCEMENT" (SPEC SHEET WAS ISSUED OCT 2012) AND STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS "LOW BEAM HEADLAMP BULB LIFETIME WAS SHORTER THAN CUSTOMER EXPECTATION". THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM, THE PROBLEM WAS THAT BOTH LIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I REQUESTED TO HAVE THE OLD PARTS RETURNED AND AN EXPERIENCED FRIEND WENT WITH ME TO QUESTION WHY I WAS CHARGED FOR JOINTS WHEN NONE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN OFF MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT ON MY CAR PREVIOUSLY AND THAT I COULD REVIEW A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETING (TSB-0204-12) ON THE TOYOTA WEBSITE WHICH I CANNOT LOCATE THIS DOCUMENT ANYWHERE ONLINE. A FORMAL RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM WAS NEVER ISSUED EVEN THOUGH TOYOTA KNEW THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING PROBLEM IN THE 2010 PRIUS MODEL. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. MY HUSBAND CHANGED THE BULBS BUT THAT DIDN'T HELP. ALL FUSES ARE GOOD. I READ ONLINE THAT IT IS THE RELAY AND THAT MANY OTHER PRIUS OWNER'S HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2010 PRIUS, PURCHASED NEW IN FEBRUARY 2010, ONE OF THE OPTIONS I PURCHASED WITH THE CAR WAS HID HEADLIGHTS, WHICH CAME ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE CAR. THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT IN 9/2012 & THE LEFT IN 10/2013. I KNEW RIGHT AWAY THAT WHEN THE 1ST LIGHT WENT OUT THAT THE REPLACEMENT WAS NOT AN HID LIGHT WHICH I HAD INITIALLY PAID FOR & THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NOW WITH THE OTHER BULB BEING REPLACED IN OCT 2013, AGAIN WITH A NON HID BULB, WE CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR IN THE DARK WITHOUT USING THE BRIGHT LIGHT BEAMS BECAUSE WE CAN NOT SEE THE ROAD IN FRONT OF US AS WELL AS BEYOND. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I ALSO OWNED A 2006 PRIUS WITH HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS. I NEVER RECEIVED THE $365.00 SETTLEMENT IN 2011 FOR THIS PROBLEM, WHY? *TR
MY CAR IS CONSTANTLY BLOWING LIGHT BULBS. IT STARTED AFTER ONLY ONE YEAR WITH HEADLIGHTS. BOTH TAG LIGHTS AND SEVERAL FRONT MARKER LIGHTS HAVE BLOWN. THERE HAS TO BE AN ELECTRONICS PROBLEM. *TR
LAST NIGHT, AT 10 PM, ON GETTING BACK TO INTO MY CAR TO DRIVE TO MY HOUSE 7 MILES AWAY, BOTH THE HEADLIGHTS DID NOT WORK. THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS WERE WORKING, BUT THE REGULAR HEADLIGHTS DID NOT. AS A RESULT, I WAS DRIVING IN DARK ON A SINGLE LANE HIGHWAY, AND IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE. *TR
WHILE ON VACATION ON AUG 3, 2013, WE WERE DRIVING IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS IN GATLINBURG, TN, VIA THE SCENIC LOOP DOWN FROM CADES COVE. I WAS DRIVING AND MY HUSBAND, OUR 13 YEAR OLD SON (ONLY CHILD) AND HIS 13 YR. OLD BUDDY (MY FRIEND'S ONLY CHILD) WERE THE PASSENGERS. THE ROUTE WAS A STEEP MOUNTAINSIDE WITH TYPICAL WINDING MOUNTAIN ROADS, PITCH DARK AT ~8:30 PM. SUDDENLY, BOTH HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, TOGETHER, AT THE SAME TIME. THE DASHBOARD SHOWED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON, NO WARNING SIGNS CAME ON. I HAD DRIVEN THROUGH A TUNNEL A BIT EARLIER AND THE HEADLIGHTS WERE BOTH WORKING. PANICKED, I PULLED OVER AT THE NEXT LOOKOUT LEDGE, TURNED THE CAR'S POWER OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES, TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES WHILE THE CAR WAS RUNNING - NOTHING. NO CELLPHONE SERVICE WAS AVAILABLE IN THE AREA. AS I WAS HYSTERICAL AND TERRIFIED BEYOND MY WITS, MY HUSBAND TOOK OVER DRIVING DUTY AND DROVE WITH THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON. AFTER A FEW MILES OF SHEER PANIC AND INCOHERENCE, IT OCCURRED TO US TO TRY THE HIGH BEAM, WHICH FORTUNATELY WORKED AND WE ARE ALIVE TO TELL THE STORY TODAY. AS SOON AS WE GOT CELLPHONE SIGNAL WE LEFT MESSAGES FOR OUR FRIENDS IN CASE WE DIED THEY WOULD KNOW WHY. GET A GRIP, TOYOTA! I LOVED MY PRIUS - THIS IS MY 2ND PRIUS, BUT I AM NOW PETRIFIED TO STEP IN THIS CAR AGAIN. I FOUND THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING BOTH THE PRIUS HEADLIGHTS FAILING AT ONCE, SO TOYOTA YOU KNOW I AM NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. THERE IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS CAR. THEY CONTINUALLY BURN OUT, OR, GO OUT AND THAN COME BACK ON WHEN HEADLIGHT IS 'TAPPED' LIGHTLY. DEALER AND INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP(S) HAVE REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES AND PROBLEM RECURS. *TR

MY HEADLIGHT WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER INDICATED THE REPLACEMENT COST WOULD BE BETWEEN $300 AND $400 FOR A SINGLE LIGHT BULB. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT I ONLY USE THE LIGHTS WHEN NEEDED TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF THAT TYPE OF BULB. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PLASTIC COVER ON THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT WOULD BECOME FOGGY, OBSTRUCTING THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY OF THE ROADWAY WHEN DRIVING DURING THE NIGHT. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS RUST ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT FENDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES FOUND WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.

THE HEADLIGHTS SHINE IN A PIE SHAPE AT NIGHT. THEY SHOULD SHINE STRAIGHT ACROSS. IF YOU MAKE A RIGHT TURN WHERE THERE ARE NO STREET LIGHTS, AND WE HAVE A LOT OF THOSE AROUND, YOU CAN NOT SEE IF YOU ARE GOING TO HIT A PERSON OR THE DITCH. I GO IN THE LEFT LANE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AS LONG AS THERE IS NO ON COMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS THE FIRST CARE OF MANY THAT HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THE HEADLIGHT BEAMS DO NOT DISPERSE AND PROJECT FAR ENOUGH DOWN THE ROAD TO SEE CLEARLY AT NIGHT REQUIRING THE USE OF HIGH BEAMS REGULARLY. AFTER CONTACTING TOYOTA ON-LINE, THEY RECOMMENDED RETURNING TO THE DEALER, WHO CHECKED THE LIGHTS AND INDICATED THAT THEY MEET MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ACTIVATED AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED CAUTIOUSLY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. ADDITIONALLY, WHENEVER THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP OR UNEVEN PAVEMENT, AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WOULD OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
HEADLAMPS ON 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS PROVIDE POOR DISTANCE COVERAGE FOR LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. AS A RESULT I HIT A MATTRESS IN THE ROADWAY EVEN THOUGH I WAS DRIVING BETWEEN 50 & 55 MPH ON A STRAIT FREEWAY SECTION (I-15 AT BUNDY CANYON IN RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA). EVEN THOUGH I WAS FULLY ALERT, THE HEADLAMPS ONLY PROVIDE ABOUT 30 FEET OF FORWARD COVERAGE WHICH IS INADEQUATE TO DO ANYTHING THAN TO SWERVE AT THE LAST MOMENT TO HIT OBJECTS AS SIGNIFICANT AS A MATTRESS. THIS VEHICLE IN MY OPINION DOES NOT MEET CALIFORNIA VEHICLE CODE SECTION 22407(B). *TR

DRIVING HOME FROM DINNER, MY DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN. I TURNED OFF MY HEADLIGHTS, THEN BACK ON AND BOTH LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SUPPORTING THE LIGHTING. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND IT NOW HAS ME NERVOUS EVERY TIME I GET ON THE ROAD THAT BOTH LIGHTS COULD GO OUT AT ANY TIME PRE-DAWN, DUSK OR NIGHT. IT IS LIKELY MAKING PRIUS OWNERS FOCUS TOO MUCH ON WATCHING FOR SIGNS THEIR HEADLIGHTS ARE STILL ON INSTEAD OF CONCENTRATING ON THEIR DRIVING. *TR
THE LED HEADLIGHTS ON THE PRIUS V ONLY CARRIES ABOUT 30 FEET ON LOW BEAM, SO THAT ONLY 30 MPH IS ALLOWABLE AT NIGHT DRIVING WITH TRAFFIC. HOWEVER, THAT IS NOT THE SPEED THAT ANYONE WILL DRIVE. THUS, ON LOW BEAMS EVERYONE OUTDRIVES THEIR LIGHTS. *TR

IS ANYONE LOOKING INTO THE HEADLIGHT PROBLEM WITH THE 2010 PRIUS MODEL V. I MADE A COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA AND NOTHING RESULTED. THE LOW BEAMS ONLY EXTEND ABOUT 40 FEET, SO THAT YOU CAN ONLY SAFELY TRAVEL ABOUT 30 MPH WITH LOW BEAMS OR OUTRUN YOUR VISION. THERE IS A "CURTAIN" EFFECT. OBVIOUSLY, ONE HAS TO TRAVEL FASTER THAN 30 MPH. *TR
