The rear brake (passage side) had very uneven wearing. It is the outside pad only. It is a potential safety issue. It was discovered when performing brake inspection by myself. There was no warning except some grinding noise.
I was stopped at a traffic light, on an uphill grade, for roughly thirty seconds when my 2016 Toyota Camry Hybrid just started slowly accelerating. I looked down and my foot was still on the brake. The car then accelerated quickly. I turned into the left hand turn lane in order to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. The car then jumped the center divider and slam in the curb on the other side of the street before it stopped. At no time did I take my foot off the brake. There was only minor damage to the front bumper, but I destroyed two plants in the center divide. (I do not know, as of yet, if there was any damage to underneath of car.) As I was less than two miles from home, I drove the vehicle home. The next business day I had the vehicle towed to the Toyota dealership in San Juan Capistrano, CA. I told them of the problem and they immediately notified corporate. Corporate TOOK possession of the car and did not issue its report until June 1, 2022 (31 days after the incident).
CAR VIOLENTLY SHIMMIES WHEN BRAKING ON AN INCLINE AT 60-70MPH.
WHILE IN A PARKING LOT IN GRIDLOCK TRAFFIC LEAVING AN EVENT MY 2016 TOYOTA CAMRY MADE A LOUD THUMP NOISE AS IF WAS RELEASING THE BRAKE. THE CAR THEN LITERALLY MADE A SUDDEN ACCELERATION FORWARD AND IT WOULD NOT STOP. BECAUSE IT WAS GRIDLOCK IN THE PARKING LOT THE ONLY WAY IT WAS GOING TO STOP WAS TO HIT A PERSON OR ANOTHER CAR. MY CAMRY HIT 2 CARS AND FINALLY STOPPED. THE CAR AT THE TIME WAS NOT IN MOTION BUT IN DRIVE WITH THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE
BOUGHT CAR AT THE END OF APRIL 2017 AND IN AUG 2018 STARTED HAVING A GRINDING NOISE EVERY TIME I STEPPED ON THE BREAK PEDAL. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL TO HAVE THAT NOISE THAT WASN'T THERE BEFORE. SPENT 3 WEEKS TRYING TO GET TOYOTA TO FIX THIS ISSUE. CAR HAD 29K MILES ON IT. SERVICE TECHNICIANS WERE EXTREMELY RUDE AND KEPT ON SAYING IT WAS NOTHING AND IT WITH IT. AFTER FINALLY GETTING THEM DOING SOMETHING ON IT THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THE ABS ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS ISSUE SHOULDN'T HAPPEN AT ALL WHEN THE CAR IS ONLY ONE YEAR OLD AND WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NOT TO MENTION THAT I HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES WITHIN 9 MONTHS BECAUSE OF THE CHEAP TRASHY ONES THEY HAD ON THE VEHICLES CEL WHEN I BOUGHT IT. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I CONTACTED CORPORATE OFFICE AND COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. I REQUESTED AN EXTENSION ON MY WARRANTY DUE THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THEY ARE DENYING IT. ALSO THEY ARE TELLING ME THE REPLACED PART WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL MY MANUFACTURER WARRANTY IS GOOD WHICH IS ONLY 6K MILES FROM NOW. I NEED SOMEONE TO HELP ME HERE. I DON'T GET TO UNDERSTAND WHY A LITERALLY BRAND NEW CAR HAS THIS TYPE OF ISSUES AND WHEN I SEEK FOR HELP THEY WOULDN'T WANT TO FIX IT UNTIL I GOT TO CONTACT CORPORATE OFFICE. BUT NOW THAT THEY FIX IT THERE IS LITERALLY NO WARRANTY ON THE PART THAT WAS REPLACED. WHO GUARANTEES ME THAT THIS CAR WON'T HAVE ANY OTHER ISSUES? I DON'T TRUST IT AND I AM SO DISSATISFIED IF THE SERVICE FROM TOYOTA. I HAVE OWN OTHER IM VEHICLES FROM THEM FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS EACH AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE LIKE THIS HAPPENING TO THE CAR, SPECIALLY BEING A BRAND NEW CAR.
IN NOVEMBER OF 2016 WHILE DRIVING BRAKE LIGHTS CAME UP IN 2 PLACES INDICATING CHECK BRAKES. WHEN PUTTING FOOT ON THE BRAKES THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ON MAY 12,2017 LEAVING MY HOUSE I NOTICED BOTH LIGHTS WERE ON INDICATING CHECK BRAKES AND BRAKES. I LEFT THE DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I CAME TO A STOP THERE WAS A LOUND NOICE COMING FROM THE BARKES AND MY FOOT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I CALLED PAGE TOYOTA CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. ONCE AGAIN I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. A CONSULTANT FROM TOYOTA WAS CALLED IN, USED A COMPUTER TO EXAMINE THE PROBLEM I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY FAULT I AM DRIVING WITH 2 FEET ONE ON THE BRAKE AND THE OTHER ON THE ACCELERATER. THAT IS ABSOLUTHLY NOT TRUE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS MY DRIVING THAT IS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. IT IS A SEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. I DRIVE 3 OF MY GRANCHILDREN OFTEN.. I AM NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE CAR. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT BEING IN AN ACCIDENT OR CAUSING ONE IF I DO NOT HAVE BRAKES TO PROPERLY OPERATE A VEHICLE.
I WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC ON THE BELTWAY GOING BETWEEN 5 -10 MILES PER HOUR ON A DRY ROAD. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND IT CONTINUED FORWARD UNTIL I REAR ENDED THE OTHER CAR. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES, I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN TO PUMP. NOT SURE IF THIS WAS THE ABS IN ACTION BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL IT REAR ENDED THE OTHER CAR. ONLY A SCRATCH WAS DONE TO THE OTHER CAR. THERE WAS ADEQUATE SPACE BETWEEN MY CAR AND THE CAR THAT I REAR ENDED AND THERE WERE NO SKID MARKS JUST A COLLISION. BRAKES FAILED ME ON NEW CAR AND WAS TOTALED DUE TO ALL AIR BAGS IN THE CAR DEPLOYING. INTERNET SAYS PREVIOUS CAMRYS HAVE HAD BRAKE FAILURES. I HAVE OWNED 2 CAMRYS THAT I DROVE 9 YEARS AND 16 YEARS AND NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. AGAIN A BRAND NEW CAR THAT I HAD FOR 7 MONTHS AND THE BRAKES FAILED ME. I HAVE TRIED TO HIRE A CAR INSPECTOR TO INSPECT THE BRAKES BUT HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL. THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO INVESTIGATES TOYOTA'S BRAKE FAILURES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK IN THE DEPRESSED POSITION AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 80 MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO RESPOND AND THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A FRACTURED STERNUM THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,700.
CAR WAS PURCHASED 3/16 WITH NO PROBLEMS UNTIL WE WENT ON VACATION 6/16 WITH ABOUT A 1200 MI ONE WAY DRIVE. UPON ARRIVAL WE NOTICED THAT AT LONG STOPLIGHTS THE BRAKE WAS GOING TO THE FLOOR. AFTER HAVING THIS HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES THE CAR WOULD ACTUALLY START MOVING WITH THE PEDAL DOWN ON THE FLOOR. PUMPING THE BRAKES WOULD BRING THE PRESSURE BACK UP, BUT THE PEDAL WOULD STILL CREEP TO THE FLOOR ON STEADY PRESSURE. AFTER A VERY SCARY RIDE HOME THRU THE MOUNTAINS THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. SERVICE MGR VERIFIED PEDAL PROBLEM AND SAID THAT A TOYOTA REP WOULD HAVE TO VERIFY PROBLEM. IT HAS BEEN 2 WEEKS THE REP HAS SAID THAT THE CAR IS IN PERFECT SHAPE. BOTH THE DEALER AND TOYOTA REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT. STRANGE BUT TOYOTA HAS THE EXACT PROBLEM LISTED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AS AN ITEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP LISTED IN 2 PLACES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10.
