The contact owned a 2012 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while her [XXX] daughter was driving at 35 MPH during traffic, the vehicle suddenly accelerated while attempting to depress the brake pedal. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's daughter kept on depressing the brake pedal but the vehicle continued increasing its speed up to 39 MPH and the brakes failed to respond. As a result, the vehicle rear-ended a vehicle that was in front, then that vehicle crashed into another vehicle that was in front of her. The contact's daughter suffered from whiplash, but no medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center, where an appraiser deemed the vehicle a total loss. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. Brake, ABS, Traction control lights came on at the same time. Toyota replaced the brake light switch. The light still came on they said it is the brake actuator. The vehicle had 148-152k miles on it at the time. The brake actuator repair is really expensive and other Toyota Camry (non hybrid) have reported the same issue online forums.

I HAD 3 INSTANCES WHEN THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND ANOTHER INSTANCE WHEN THE MASTER WARNING LIGHT DID THE SAME. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THAT I DIDN'T QUALIFY BECAUSE THE LIGHT HAS TO STAY ON. IF I WANTED IT CHECKED OUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A FEE OF $130 AND EVEN THEN IT MAY NOT BE COVERED BY TOYOTA . THESE INSTANCES HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND ON ONE OCCASION THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. ABS
BREAK BOOSTER IS APPARENTLY DEFECTIVE AND NOT WORKING AS DESCRIBED. INTERMITTENT MASTER WARNING LIGHT COMES UP. BECAUSE THE CORRECT FAILURE CODE DOESN'T COME UP TOYOTA SAYS I DON'T QUALIFY FOR ITS CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR THIS KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART . PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL SO OWNERS DON'T DIE FROM AN ACCIDENT.

OUR 2012 CAMRY SE HAD APPROXIMATELY 66,000 MILES WHEN THE BRAKE PROBLEM OCCURRED. I WAS THE DRIVING VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY ON 7/30/18 GOING 55 MPH WHEN I HEARD AN WHISTLING SOUND FOR 2-3 MINUTES. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION 10 MILES FROM MY HOME I SMELT A BURNING SMELL WHICH SEEMED TO COME FROM THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. WHEN I TOUCHED THE WHEEL IT WAS VERY HOT AND WOULD HAVE BURNED MY HAND IF I LEFT IT THERE. I DROVE HOME LATER AND THE SAME THING OCCURRED. I THREW SOME WATER ON IT AND A CLOUD OF STEAM AROSE. I CALLED MY MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS MOST LIKELY A STUCK DISC BRAKE CALIBER AND THAT HE HAD SEEN THE PROBLEM BEFORE ON 2012 & 2013 CAMRYS. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A SEIZED CALIBER PISTON WHICH REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LEFT REAR CALIBER, PADS AND ROTOR FOR OVER $500.00. MY CONCERN IS THAT I HAVE NEVER HAD A SAFETY PROBLEM LIKE THIS OCCUR IN ANY VEHICLE NEVER MIND A FAIRLY NEW CAMRY WHICH PASSED A SAFETY INSPECTION AT TOYOTA AS PART OF AN OIL CHANGE ON 2/20/18 WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 63,253 MILES. IN MY OPINION THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OR IN THE QUALITY OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH COULD LEAD TO A BRAKE SYSTEM FIRE OR BRAKE FAILURE.
SHIFT LEVER LOCKS IN PLACE.. BREAK LIGHT , TRACTION LIGHT, ABS LIGHT ALL ARE ON... HAVE TO PUMP THE BREAK PEDAL TO RELEASE THE SHIFT LEVER. .. TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON SOMETIMES WILL RESET THE LIGHTS..
ON THE COMMUTE TO WORK IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC I WAS IN LINE WITH SEVERAL OTHER CARS. AS THEY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE, I ALSO BEGAN TO ACCELERATE UP TO ABOUT 20 MPH WHEN ONE OF THE CARS IN THE FRONT OF THE LINE STOPPED TO MAKE A TURN ALL THE CARS INFRONT OF ME ALSO STOPPED AND AS I WENT TO ALSO STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT PUSH DOWN AT ALL, FAILING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES CAUSING MY CAR TO DRIVE INTO THE BACK OF THE STOPPED CAR IN FRONT OF ME, RESULTING IN MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY IN THE ACCIDENT.
BRAKES FAILED WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING, I SUDDENLY HAD NO POWER BRAKING AND HAD TO STOMP ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID A COLLISION. CAR HAS ONLY 44,000 MILES AND BEEN DRIVEN 29 MONTHS. AT THE DEALER THEY SAID IT WAS A FAILED BRAKE BOOSTER AND WOULD COST OVER $3000 TO REPAIR. THE CAR HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. I AM LUCKY NOBODY WAS HARMED BUT THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY FAILURE ON A CAR THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE VERY SAFE AND RELIABLE, AND A RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE REPAIR IN ADDITION. AFTER I COMPLAINED THEY WROTE OFF 80% BUT STILL COST $600 OUT OF MY POCKET TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE TOYOTA BRAKE SYSTEM. *TR

ON THIS DATE I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO HENRICKS OF TOYOTA OF APEX BECAUSE WHEN BACKING SLOWING WITH VEHICLE AND TOUCHING THE BRAKES IT WOULD MAKE NOISE AS IF THE CALIPERS WERE LOOSE. THE MECHANIC STATED HE COULD NOT HEAR ANYTHING, SO THEN I ASKED HIM TO COME WITH ME WHILE I DRIVE IT. WE WERE ON AN INCLINE BACKING AND I PUSHED THE BRAKES AND HE STATED THE NOISE THAT HE COULDN'T HEAR, HE HEARS NOW AND STATED THAT THE BRAKES ARE LOOSE IN THERE AND THAT IS NORMAL BECAUSE IT IF WAS TIGHTER IN THERE THEN IT WOULD MAKE SQUEALING NOISE AND THAT WITH THE MOISTURE THAT RUST CAN BUILD UP IN THERE AND CAUSE THAT NOISE. I HAD [XXX] DOCUMENT ON MY COPY OF THE INVOICE. I WILL BE CALLING THE NC STATE ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE, CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO FILE A WRITTEN COMPLAINT BECAUSE IT SHOULD NOT BE MAKING ANY NOISE. ON FRIDAY THE 20TH OF SEPTEMBER, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO QUEENSBORO TOYOTA IN NY TO CHANGE MY OIL AND CHECK WHY MY BRAKE ABS SIGNAL HAZARD LIGHTS WERE ON. THE OIL WAS CHANGED AND I WAS TOLD "NOTHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR BRAKES" AND THE SIGNAL WAS REMOVED. ON SEPTEMBER 24TH, I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE MY BRAKES FAILED ON ME, SO I RETURNED THE VEHICLE FOR A 2ND DIAGNOSTIC. I WAS THEN TOLD "WHO EVER CHANGED YOUR OIL, THEY PUT THE WRONG BRAKE FLUID AND IT DAMAGED THE BRAKE SYSTEM. MY BRAKE FLUID WAS NEVER CHANGED BECAUSE I HAVE A 2012 NEW CAR AND IT IS UNNECESSARY TO CHANGE IT NOW. I TRIED EXPLAINING MY ISSUE TO THE SUPERVISOR OF THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND I WAS TOLD TO DO MY OWN INVESTIGATION ON THE CONTAMINATION OF MY BRAKE FLUID. THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE SHOWS QUEENSBORO TOYOTA PERFORMED MY MAINTENCE, SO I HOLD THEM RESPONSIBLE. PLEASE HELP ME, I AM AN HONEST CONSUMER WHO CAN'T AFFORD TO SPEND UNNECESSARY FUNDS FOR AN ISSUE TOYOTA CAN RESOLVE THAT ALMOST CAUSED ME AN ACCIDENT WITH MY 3 DAUGHTERS ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDALS ARE TO CLOSE TOGETHER. I HAVE A 2012 TOYOTA CAMRY, I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT UP AHEAD AND I HAD TO BREAK SUDDENLY. ALL MY BRAKES DID WAS MAKE A LOUD STUTTERING SOUND WHICH I COULD ACTUALLY FEEL IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SLOWED VERY SO SLIGHTLY I HAD LITTLE TO NO CONTROL OF MY BRAKES. I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL OVER BECAUSE IT DIDN'T APPEAR THAT I WAS GOING TO STOP BUT I MANAGED TO JUST MISS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME STEERING OFF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY JUST IN TIME AND MY CAR FINALLY STOPPED. AT THE TIME, I THOUGHT IT MIGHT OF BEEN THE WAY I APPLIED MY BREAKS, OR AN ISOLATED INCIDENT UNTIL READING AN ARTICLE ABOUT A LEXUS RECALL WHICH SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM. IDENTICAL PROBLEMS AS RECENT RECALL FOR PRIUS AND LEXUS MODELS, BUT HADN'T HEARD MY MODEL BEING AFFECTED, SO I WANTED IT DOCUMENTED. THIS VISIT WE HAD DONE WAS NOT JUST ONCE BUT MANY TIMES, RECEIVING THE SAME ANSWER. WHAT UPSETS ME IS THAT AFTER MY WARRANTY WAS OVER. SUDDENLY THE DEALER KNEW THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM I WAS CONSTANTLY VERIFYING THEM ABOUT EARLIER. WHICH SUMMED UP TO ABOUT THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS. WHAT I CAN CONCLUDE FROM THIS IS, THAT THE CAR ITSELF IS A DEFECT.THE DEALER TOLD OUR FAMILY TO CALL THE MANUFACTURES AND LET THEM KNOW, BECAUSE THIS CAR COULD HAVE BEEN A DEFECT FROM BEGINNING, WHEN PURCHASED. THE DEALER SAYS, THE PROBLEM IN THE CAR IS " BRAKE ACTUATOR BOOSTER ASSEMBLY." *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE LOOSE AND WHENEVER THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED, THE BRAKE PADS WOULD MOVE BACK AND FORTH. THE BRAKE PADS WERE SMALLER THAN THE AREA OF THE CALIPER, CAUSING THEM TO BECOME LOOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT A DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FILES A CLAIM WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE 11,016.
STARTED THE CAR AND HAD SEVERAL BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY RETRIEVED A CODE OF C1214. THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. BEFORE THEY CLEARED THE CODE AND WHILE I HAD THE WARNING LIGHTS, I HAD NO REGENERATIVE BRAKING. ONLY THE FRICTION BRAKES WORKED, WHICH CONSIDERABLY LENGTHENED THE STOPPING DISTANCE. NOW I NO LONGER HAVE ANY CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR.
