Breaks are not working. ABS is acting like it is in panic situation. it happens randomly. I almost went and hit somebody due to car not stopping. I am able to reproduce the issue but Toyota dealer is not accepting it. he says without seeing fault code in Toyota diagnostic tool they can't do anything. they are asking me continuously drive the vehicle. if I drive knowingly there is an issue with ABS who will be liable for accident or death. I saw few NHTSA complains raised similar to my issue. Here they are. NHTSA Compliant id: 11327259 and 11321857. Please take this seriously and help us out. Brake actuator failure is too common in this vehicle. Needs to be an open warranty without limitation. This is a safety issue Toyota should be handling. On June 25, 2014, Toyota initiated a Warranty Enhancement Program (ZE1) to extend warranty coverage for the brake actuator assembly and skid control ECU/brake pedal stroke sensor in certain MY 2007 to 2011 Toyota Camry hybrid vehicles. Toyota's program covers repairs related to two conditions: internal malfunctions of the Brake Actuator assembly; and overly sensitive monitoring logic for the Brake Pedal Stroke Sensor. Melting dash is ridiculous as well. I can only imagine what kind of cancer I will be getting from inhaling the noxious fumes from the melting dash.
VSC light came on. No breaks. Almost hit the car in front of me.

I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION ON A CITY STREET AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED, THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" MESSAGE CAME ON THE DASH, SEVERAL DASH LIGHTS TURNED ON, AND THE POWER BRAKES FAILED SO I HAD TO STEP ON THE BRAKES VERY HARD IN ORDER TO STOP. I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY DRIVE HOME. THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" ,MESSAGE IS STILL ON THE DASH.
WHILE DRIVING UPHILL ALL OF A SUDDEN I RECEIVED MULTIPLE WARNINGS ( NOISE, BRAKE LIGHT, EXCLAMATION POINT, AND A MESSAGE ABOUT ABS). I WENT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ON A STREET TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR AND HAD NO BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT MOVE AT ALL. REALIZING I COULD NOT STOP, I DROVE ON THE GRASS AND COASTED UNTIL THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. TO SAY THIS WAS TERRIFYING IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT.I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE ELSE, I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR AND IT WOULD BE $2054.00 FOR THE PART. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL ABOUT THIS PROBLEM
BRAKES FAIL TO WORK IN MAJORITY OF DRIVING CIRCUMSTANCES. VSC SYSTEM WARNING INDICATED AND BRAKES FAIL TO FUNCTION CAUSING NEAR FATAL ACCIDENT
BRAKES FAIL AT RANDOM TIMES, CANNOT ADEQUATELY STOP CAR WHEN PROBLEM OCCURS. PROBLEMS OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK, CAUSING NEAR ACCIDENTS MULTIPLE TIMES, INCLUDING WITH YOUNG PASSENGERS ON BOARD. VSC LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHTS APPEAR WHEN PROBLEM OCCURING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING ACCELERATE TO MERGE ONTO THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE STARTED TO VIBRATE ABNORMALLY AND LOST MOTIVE POWER. THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS RELEASED AND THE VIBRATION CEASED. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO (FAMILY TOYOTA OF BURLESON 801 S BURLESON BLVD, BURLESON, TX 76028 (817) 768-2829) TO BE INSPECTED. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE FAULT CODE 1391 WITH A STATED FAILURE OF THE ABS ACTUATOR. THE CONTACT WAS QUOTED A COST OF $2,050 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
ON OR ABOUT MID APRIL 2018 THIS VEHICLE WAS LEFT PARKED AND UNATTENDED OUTSIDE IN UPSTATE NY FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE AT THE TIME WAS FROM THE MID 20S TO THE MID 30'S WITH SOME SNOW. AFTER 2 WEEKS, I CAME BACK AND ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE IT FROM IT'S PARKED SPOT WHEN I DISCOVERED THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL GARAGE WHERE THE D/S REAR CALIPER PINS WERE FOUND FROZEN AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS FOUND RUSTED. ON APRIL 2019 THE SAME VEHICLE WAS LEFT PARKED IN UPSTATE NY WHEN THE LOCAL TEMPERATURE VARIED FROM THE LOW 30'S TO THE HIGH 30'S WITH SOME SNOW ON THE GROUND. I RETURNED AFTER 2 WEEKS AND THIS TIME IT WAS DISCOVERED THE REAR WHEELS WOULD NOT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TOWED AND THE REAR ROTORS WERE FOUND EXTREMELY RUSTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE FRONT ROTORS WERE ALSO FOUND EXTREMELY RUSTED BUT WERE NOT REPLACED AT THIS TIME. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS PARTIALLY STUCK AND HARD TO BRAKE FREE FROM REAR ROTOR DUE TO RUST.
THE FIRST TIME THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" (ATTACHMENT) CAME UP WAS ABOUT THE FIRST WEEK OF JAN 2019 WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. SINCE I WAS ON THE RIGHT HAND LAND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE. AFTER I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED FOR 1 MINUTE AND TURN THE ENGINE BACK ON, THE MESSAGE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" DISAPPEAR FROM THE DASHBOARD. WHEN I GOT HOME AND SEARCHED FOR THIS ERROR MESSAGE MANY PEOPLE SAYS THIS COULD BE DUE TO A LOOSE GAS CAP SO I MAKE SURE IT'S TIGHTEN. THEN ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER ON JAN 17, 2019, THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND WHEN I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BUZZER WILL CHIME BEFORE I EVEN START THE ENGINE. WHEN I START THE ENGINE THEN THE "CHECK VSC SYSTEM" COMES ON AND IT DOESN'T GO AWAY. I TRIED TO TURN THE ENGINE ON AND OFF MULTIPLE TIMES AND IT DOESN'T RESOLVE THE ISSUE LIKE LAST TIME. I ALSO NOTICED WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT PROVIDES VIRTUALLY NO BREAK. IT WOULD TAKE ME A VERY LONG DISTANCE TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MORE THAN 25 MPH. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND TWO CODES CAME UP FOR ABS PUMP AND ABS MOTOR. HE TRIED TO USE HIS TOOL TO TURN ON THE ABS PUMP IT DOESN'T WORK. THEN WE FOUND OUT ABOUT THE BRAKE WARRANTY(ATTACHMENT) BUT I WHEN I WENT TO THE A TOYOTA DEALER, THE DEALER SAID THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED ON 3/14/2018 SINCE THE FIRST DATE OF USE WAS 3/14/2008. I BELIEVE SINCE THE SECONDARY WARRANTY WAS FOR 150K MILES AND MY CAR HAS ONLY 121K MILES ON IT, IT SHOULD BE COVERED. IF I HAD DRIVE 20K PER MILE PER YEAR, THIS ISSUE WOULD HAVE APPEARED TWO YEARS AGO WHICH WAS WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD.

THE DEALER CHECKED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY BOTH STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECEIVING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY CAMPAIGN FOR THE BRAKE AND THE STATUTE EXPIRED ON MARCH 28, 2018. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
CHECK VSC SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED.
MY ABS BRAKE ACTUATOR FAILED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE BRAKES TO STOP FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I WAS FORCED TO SLAM MY BRAKES FOR THE CAR TO STOP. LUCKILY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT GOING ABOUT 5 MPH. OTHERWISE, I COULD HAVE DIED OR KILLED SOMEONE. THERE WAS NO NOTICE BEFOREHAND OF THE PROBLEM. I SPOKE TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY CLAIM THEIR WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND SUPPLEMENTAL WARRANTY THAT WERE ISSUED, BUT THE SUPP WARRANTY EXPIRED APRIL OF THIS YEAR (2018) AND AT 150,000 MILES. MY CAR CURRENTLY HAS 155K MILES. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS PROBLEM BY TOYOTA. THEY HAVE MY INFORMATION ON FILE. I WOULD HAVE EITHER SOLD/TRADED IN MY VEHICLE LAST YEAR HAD I KNOWN THESE CARS HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. IN RESEARCHING ONLINE, NHTSA HAS INVESTIGATED THE BRAKE ACTUATER PROBLEMS THAT HAVE CAUSED CRASHES AND INJURIES. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL LIKE THEY WERE FORCED TO DO IN 2009/2010 WHEN THEY'RE ACCELERATOR PEDALS WERE STICKING AND PEOPLE WERE DYING. NOW TOYOTA IS GOING TO CHARGE ME OVER $1,700 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I DON'T HAVE A CHOICE SINCE THE CAR IS NOT IN WORKING CONDITION. I HAVE A CASE ID WITH TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE 1811131473. THE LADY JUST LIED TO ME ABOUT TOYOTA BEING UNABLE TO COVER THE PROBLEM. SHE MADE IT SOUND LIKE THERE WAS A CONTRACT IN PLACE AND FIXING MY CAR WOULD BE BREAKING THE TERMS. I ASKED HER WHO NEGOTIATED THE TERMS, AND SHE DIDN'T HAVE AN ANSWER. I ASKED HER IF NHTSA OR A CLASS ACTION FORCED TOYOTA TO ACCEPT THE TERMS AND SHE SAID NO. CLEARLY, TOYOTA HAS TRAINED THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS TO LIE TO CUSTOMERS LIKE ME GETTING THEM TO THINK THERE ARE ABSOLUTE "TERMS" THAT CANNOT BE CHANGED IN ORDER TO ESCAPE LIABILITY.
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ON 40 MILES/HOUR THE BRAKE LIGHT, ABS, SKID CONTROL, AND MAINTENANCE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITH A WHISTLING SOUND TOO, ALSO THE DASH BOARD HAD CHECK THE VSC SYSTEM WARNING. I WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE CAR DUE TO BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE, SO I PULLED OVER TO A CLOSE BY GAS STATION AND STOPPED BY HITTING THE CURB. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND DIAGNOSED AS ABS BRAKING ACTUATOR SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, AND ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $2,200, IT WAS OUT OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BY 4 MONTHS SO I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS PARTICULAR MANUFACTURER LIFE THREATENING MISTAKE THAT COULD TAKE AWAY MY LIFE IF I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA COMPANY 3 TIMES THEY STATED THEY ARE AWARE OF THE MALFUNCTION PROBLEM, BUT THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, AS IT IS NOT A RECALL YET, IT'S ONLY UNDER INVESTIGATION. I KNOW THIS HAPPENED TO MANY CARS OF THIS MODEL. AND INJURIES OCCURRED BUT TOYOTA DON'T WANT TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY OF THEIR DANGEROUS MISTAKE.

IN MARCH OF 2015, WHILE LEAVING MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT PARKING LOT THE FLOOR MAT APPARENTLY INTERFERED WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSING THE CAR TO SPEED UP RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL, HITTING A FIRE HYDRANT HEAD ON. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. AFTER THE CAR WAS TOTALED, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THIS ISSUE SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. A LETTER FROM MY INSURANCE COMPANY INDICATED THAT I WAS NOT AT FAULT AT CAUSING THE ACCIDENT BUT RATHER THE ACCIDENT WAS THE RESULT OF ONE OR MORE RECALLS WITH REGARD TO BRAKING CONCERNS: IN THE LETTER MY INSURANCE COMPANY REFERENCED A RECALL NOTICE; NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V017000. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA REGARDING THIS MATTER; HOWEVER M REQUESTS HAVE GONE UNANSWERED OR HAVE BEEN IGNORED. WHEN MY CAR WAS TOTALED MY INSURANCE PAID THE FAIR MARKET VALUE TO THE LENDER WHICH ENDED UP CREATING A DEFICIENCY. I'M STRUGGLING TRY TO PAY FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE AS WELL AS PAYING THE DEFICIENCY.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON BRAKE PEDAL SINKS TO FLOOR. HAD THIS FIXED AS PART OF RECALL IN 2014. PROBLEM IS NOW BACK. BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS JUST ABOVE MINIMUM. ADDED SOME BRAKE FLUID AND PROBLEM STOPPED.
STARTED CAR AND HAD IMMEDIATE BRAKE FAILURE!, ABS SYSTEM FAILURE. BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHTS AND BEEPING FROM DASHBOARD. CAR NOT DRIVE-ABLE.
WHEN OUR CAR WAS IN MOTION, WE EXPERIENCED VERY LOUD AUDIBLE GRUNT ALONG WITH VERY POOR BREAKING. EXTREMELY SCARY SITUATION ESPECIALLY SINCE IT STARTED SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AND THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AT ALL DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT. THE WARNING LIGHTS DID NOT COME ON AND LUCKILY WE WERE NOT YET ON THE EXPRESSWAY. WE MADE IT HOME AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP THE NEXT DAY. WE DROVE IT AROUND THE PARKING LOT WITH THE MECHANIC AND THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. WE HAD TO HAVE THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS PUMP/MODULE ASSEMBLY) REPLACED AT A COST OF $2,263. WE CONTACTED TOYOTA WHO SAID THEY COULD NOT REIMBURSE FOR THE ISSUE. WE HAVE READ ONLINE THAT OTHER ISSUES HAVE HAPPENED TO CONSUMERS AND IT SEEMS THAT ANYTHING THAT RESULTS IN TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE SHOULD WARRANTY A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,790.
TOYOTA DEALER HAS CONDUCTED 3 SEPARATE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS ON MY CAR. EACH TIME I WAS TOLD MY CAR "PASSED" AND DID NOT MEET THEIR REQUIREMENTS FOR EXCESS OIL CONSUMPTION. I CAN ONLY GO 1200-1800 MILES BEFORE I AM WARNED THAT MY OIL IS LOW. WE RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT AT APPROXIMATELY 1200 MILES AFTER MY LAST OIL CHANGE, MY CAR WAS REGISTERING "0" OIL. TOYOTA, WHILE KNOWING THEY HAVE A PROBLEM, ARE NOT HELPING ME AS A TOYOTA OWNER. I AM WARNED OF LOW OIL WHEN I BRAKE OR TURN. IN A SEPARATE INCIDENCE, I RECENTLY SPENT OVER $2500 ON THE BRAKE ACTUATOR AND WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH I READ ABOUT CAMRYS HAVING THIS PROBLEM, IT DID NOT INVOLVE THE NON-HYBRID CAMRY. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN I WAS WARNED BY THE CAR OF THE PROBLEM.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ONE AFTERNOON WHEN ALL THE INDICATORS ON MY DASHBOARD TURNED ON AND STATED "CHECK VSC SYSTEM". I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH TOYOTA SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 2, 2015. AFTER THE INDICATORS TURNED ON, I WAS REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT WHEN I NOTICED AN ONCOMING VEHICLE. I PRESSED THE BRAKES BUT MY CAR FAILED TO STOP, AND I HAD TO SHIFT TO PARK TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT. THE TOYOTA SERVICEMAN INFORMED ME THE BRAKE ACTUATOR WAS THE PROBLEM. HE FURTHER CLAIMED THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY SINCE THE CAR HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT 3 YEARS AGO AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME $1,500. HOW CAN AN ACCIDENT 3 YEARS AGO CAUSE MY BRAKE ACTUATOR TO SUDDENLY FAIL LAST MONTH? WHY ISN'T TOYOTA DEMANDED TO MAKE A RECALL ON A PART THAT IS DEFECTIVE IN THOUSANDS OF THE CAMRY AND HYBRID CAMRY MODELS? AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK THAT DAY, I SUDDENLY FELT THAT THE BRAKES LOST POWER -- I HAD TO PRESS THEM MUCH HARDER TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN EVEN BY A SMALL AMOUNT. MANY LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WENT ON, INCLUDING SOMETHING LIKE "CHECK VSC" ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY. I FELT THAT THE DANGER OF GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT WAS VERY HIGH, PARTICULARLY GIVEN THAT I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY. DRIVING VERY SLOWLY, I MANAGED TO SAFELY GET TO WORK. WHEN I GOT INTO THE CAR A FEW HOURS LATER, THE SITUATION DID NOT REPEAT ITSELF AND IT DROVE NORMALLY. THEY CALLED BAIERL TOYOTA WHO SAID TO DRIVE UP UNLESS FLASHING WARNING LIGHTS. THE LIGHTS WERE STEADY SO I DROVE SLOWLY WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENT FROM WEXFORD PA TO MARS PA TO THE DEALERSHIP. I CALLED MONDAY (ORDERED PART), TUES (WAITING FOR PART FOR BRAKES) AND WED(PART IN MORNING -NEED COMPUTER TO CALIBRATE). THE CAR WAS RETURNED AND THE BRAKES SEEM FINE WITH NO FURTHER VSC/ABS LIGHTS. I DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS. I ASSUME THAT BAIERL TOYOTA, MARS, PA 16046 HAS THE RECORDS AND COULD TELL YOU MORE. I DID NOT PAY MORE ATTENTION AS IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF BY THE DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY. MY FRIEND SUGGESTED THAT I NOTIFY YOU IN THE EVENT THAT THE HYBRID BRAKES ON THE CAMRY SHOULD ALSO BE CHECKED TO HELP SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
LOSS OF BRAKING WHEN HITTING SLIGHT BUMP WITH ONE FRONT TIRE. THIS HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN FRONT WHEELS CONTACT A SLIPPERY PATCH OR ROUGH SPOTS. THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE ALL BRAKING IS LOST FOR A MOMENT, MUCH LIKE HAS BEEN REPORTED FOR 2010 CAMRY MODELS. THIS IS A CAMRY HYBRID MODEL. *TR
I WAS DROPPING MY CHILDREN OFF AT SCHOOL WHEN MY CAMRY WENT FORWARD AND I WAS UNABLE TO BRAKE AND MY CAR WENT DIRECTLY INTO A FIRE HYDRANT APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET AWAY. I WAS DRIVING AT A VERY SLOW RATE OF SPEED AS I APPROACHED TO TURN A CORNER BUT THE CAR ACCELERATED STRAIGHT AHEAD INTO THE HYDRANT. I DISLOCATED PART OF MY FOOT BECAUSE I WAS PRESSING ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD TO STOP THE CAR BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP. IT WAS AS IF I HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE CAR. THE BRAKES AND/OR ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT DO ANYTHING. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT ACTIVATE. WE HAD THE CAR REPAIRED AT OUR EXPENSE BUT WERE NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL AT THAT TIME AND DID NOT HAVE THE ACCELERATOR LOOKED AT. I WAS TOLD AT OUR LAST MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT THAT THE FLOOR MAT IN MY CAR WAS SECURED BUT THAT THE CAR WOULD BE RECALLED. I BELIEVE IT WAS REPORTED TO THE POLICE WHEN I WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM BUT I DO NOT KNOW IF THEY MADE A REPORT. *TR
AFTER MY CAR HAD BEEN PARKED OUTSIDE IN THE COLD (DECEMBER IN MINNEAPOLIS) FOR THE DAY, I NOTICED THAT, AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS (I.E. CRAWLING), THE BRAKES ON MY CAR TOOK LONGER THAN NORMAL TO BRING THE CAR TO A HALT. DESPITE MOVING VERY SLOWLY, WHEN I PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR STILL CONTINUED MOVING FOR SEVERAL FEET BEFORE I FELT THE BRAKES ENGAGE. I WAS IN A PARKING LOT, SO I TRIED DOING THIS SEVERAL TIMES, EACH WITH THE SAME RESULT. DELAYED BRAKING IN 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID - I HAVE EXPERIENCED WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE A SLOW BRAKING RESPONSE IN MY CAR SINCE I PURCHASED IT NEW IN MAY 2008. I HAVE ALWAYS FELT AS THOUGH THE BRAKES IN MY 2008 CAMRY HYBRID DO NOT ENGAGE QUICKLY ENOUGH IN ALL BRAKING SITUATIONS. THE SENSATION I GET IS, "THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS PULLING FORWARD IN RESISTANCE TO THE BRAKING ACTION CREATING WHAT FEELS LIKE A SLOW BRAKING RESPONSE". I HAVE ALWAYS ASSUMED THE SLOW BRAKING RESPONSE IS DUE TO THE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE GAS ENGINE, ELECTRIC MOTOR AND THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM. I HAVE DISCUSSED THE CONCERNS I HAVE WITH MY DEALER AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE BRAKES ARE WORKING AS DESIGNED. NOW THAT I AM READING ABOUT TWO (OR THREE) TOYOTA RECALLS, I THINK THERE IS AT LEAST A POSSIBILITY THAT THE SLOW BRAKE RESPONSE MAY BE A DESIGN FLAW. I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT 5/13/2009 WHERE I REARENDED ANOTHER CAR ON ROUTE 84 IN FARMINGTON CT. WHEN THE TRAFFIC SLOWED, I THOUGHT I HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP. THE BRAKING REACTION IN MY VEHICLE STARTLED ME WHEN THE CAR TOOK LONGER THAN EXPECTED TO SLOW DOWN AND RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS WAS MY FIRST AT FAULT ACCIDENT IN 38 YEARS OF DRIVING. I CONTINUE TO BE STARTLED BY THE BRAKING ACTION IN THIS CAR AND DEFINITELY WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER CAMRY HYBRID. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BY TOYOTA AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION. THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO PRODUCE WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE A SLOW RESPONSE. MY ONLY OTHER THOUGHT REGARDING THE SLOW BRAKING IS THE POSSIBLE IMPACT OF THE ADDED WEIGHT FROM THE HYBRID SYSTEM AND BATTERIES IN A CAR THAT WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED FOR A GAS ENGINE ONLY. *TR

SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER RECALIBRATED THE STROKE SENSOR. ABOUT 8-9 MONTHS LATER, THE ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN SO SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE STROKE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. SHE STATED THAT SHE NOTICED NO PROBLEMS SINCE THE LATEST REPAIR. SHE HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 24,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AT 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND THEN BEGAN TO ACCELERATE PAST THE INTENDED SPEED. AFTER REPEATED BRAKE APPLICATION SHE WAS ABLE TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND ALL OF THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE FAILURE RESURFACED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THE TECHNICIAN COMPLETED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. HE THEN ADDED THAT THE ROTORS WERE OUT- OF- ROUND AND THUS NEEDED TO BE TURNED. NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAVE REMEDIED THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN THEN CONCLUDED THAT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE, THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY. SHE INSPECTED HER VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE CLIPS DID NOT PROPERLY SECURE THE COVER TO THE AIR FILTER HOUSING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 31,000. I HAVE WAITED UNTIL A GOOD YEAR HAS PASSED SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAMRY. DRIVING IN THE LOS ANGLES AREA I EXPERIENCE QUITE A FEW INCIDENCES WHERE I NEED TO BRAKE ABRUPTLY. I FIND THAT THE BRAKING IS CONTROLLED BY THE ABS SYSTEM, WHICH IS NOT RESPONDING TO MY REQUEST FOR A VERY QUICK STOP. IN MOST OF THESE INCIDENCES MY BRAKE PEDAL WILL BOTTOM OUT. I REPORTED THIS PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR WAS SERVICED, 11/7/08, AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT?S JUST THE WAY THE CAR, BRAKING SYSTEM, WAS DESIGNED BY TOYOTA. IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS HIT THE FLOOR OF THE CAR OVER 12 TIMES. 7 OF THEM I CAME TO CLOSE TO HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT AND FELT IT TOOK 30% (OR MORE) LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP THAN IT SHOULD HAVE. ALL OF THESE EVENTS HAVE OCCURRED WHILE GOING STRAIGHT IN DRY CONDITIONS, SO SKIDDING WAS NOT AN ISSUE. MY PREVIOUS TWO AUTOS, I30 AND ACURA, BOTH HAD ABS AND I NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS. AT THIS TIME I HAVE VERY LITTLE CONFIDENCE THAT I CAN BRAKE IN AN EMERGENCY. IT IS SO BAD MY WIFE WILL ONLY DRIVE THE CAR AS A LAST RESORT. *TR
THE CAR SEVERELY VIBRATES EVEN ON LOW SPEED WHICH MAKES DRIVING LIKE RIDING A HORSE. ALSO IT DOESN'T ACCELERATE PROPERLY WHEN I WANT TO, WHICH IS REALLY DANGEROUS IN MANY SITUATIONS. IT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS. THERE'S NOISE COMES FROM TRANSMISSION AND BRAKES ALL THE TIME. I WENT TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THE TECHNICIAN TRIED TO PLAY THE IDIOT GAME BY SAYING I SEE NOTHING WRONG. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IF I'M CRAZY ENOUGH TO BUY THEIR CAR, I SHOULD KEEP QUIET. I MOVED TO CA RECENTLY AND WITH HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE CAR BECOMES REALLY ANNOYING. *TR
