The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Camry equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Cross Climate 2, Tire Size: 215/60/R16, DOT Number: 1AP4909CX2022. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, he switched lanes to avoid crashing into another vehicle in front that had stopped abruptly. The contact nearly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle inadvertently swerved, and the contact felt as if the vehicle was going to flip over. Upon inspection, the contact related the failure to the design of the tires. The contact stated that the tires had no ribs, borders, or lateral grooves; the tires only had a V-shaped design along the tread. The tire store was made aware of the failure; however, the tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The tire failure mileage was approximately 25. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 224,000.

THE MANUFACTURER SUGGESTED HAVING THE CONTACT TAKE THE TIRES TO A TIRE SPECIALIST TO BE TESTED, BUT THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE TIRES FOR THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE. THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SENSOR IS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH BOARD, DESPITE HAVING CORRECT PRESSURE IN ALL TIRES ON THE CAR INCLUDING THE SPARE. IT IS A DISTRACTION. TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEAL AND THEY INFORM ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS TRACED TO MALFUNCTIONING TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS. GIVEN THE RECALLS ON TOYOTA CARS/TRUCKS ON CALIBRATION PROBLEMS WITH TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS AND THE FACT THAT TOYOTA MANUFACTURES COMMON PARTS FOR ALL VEHICLES SUCH AS THESE TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS, I BELIEVE THEY ARE DEFECTIVE PARTS. MY VEHICLE IS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH A V-6 ENGINE MANUFACTURED IN APRIL 2007. FURTHER COMPOUNDING THE PROBLEM IS THAT TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE ATTRIBUTE FAULT TO THE US GOVERNMENT SAYING, "IT'S A GOVERNMENT MANDATE FOR US TO HAVE THESE SENSORS ON OUR CARS". RIDICULOUS. *TR

I TOOK MY 2007 CAMRY FOR 25,000 (AT 23,000) MILES SERVICE. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED NEW TIRES. I QUESTIONED IT AND WAS TOLD 'YOU HAVE TO TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY, TOO' I TAKE MY CAR IN CONSISTENTLY DO PRETTY MUCH WHAT IS SUGGESTED TO ME AS PART OF PREVENTIVE CARE AND I HAVE ALL THE BILLS TO PROVE IT, MENTIONED THIS TO THE SERVICE PERSON, AND TALKED TO MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT YES I NEEDED THE NEW TIRES. THIS WAS "NORMAL" WEAR AND TEAR. I SURE WAS NOT READY FOR SUCH A LARGE EXPENSE. AS I WAS RESEARCHING FOR WHAT KIND OF TIRES TO BUY, I FOUND THAT MANY 2007 CAMRY OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM! ALSO I FOUND THAT THERE IS A LEAKAGE PROBLEM WITH THE BRIDGESTONE TIRES, AND CHECKING MY SERVICE BILLS, I SEE THAT I HAD TAKEN MY CAR IN TO HAVE THE PRESSURE LIGHTS CHECKED, BECAUSE I WOULD ADD AIR TO MY TIRES AND FEW WEEKS AFTER I WOULD HAVE THE LIGHT COME ON AGAIN. ALL THIS IS DOCUMENTED AND NOW I AM FURIOUS THAT I WAS NOT TOLD OF THIS PROBLEM. THANKFULLY, I AM NOT ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING ANT 55+ MILES AN HOUR, AS I WORK NEAR MY HOME. I HATE TO THINK OF THE OUTCOME. WHEN I HAVE TAKEN MY SON BACK TO SCHOOL, IS WHEN THE PRESSURE LIGHT WOULD COME ON MOST OFTEN. NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE! AFTER THREE MONTHS, AND APPROXIMATELY 3,000 MILES, ONE TIRE BLEW OUT DUE TO A SIDEWALL EXPLOSION. THIS TIRE WAS THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THIS TIRE WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER AT A NOMINAL COST, SINCE I HAD PURCHASED INSURANCE ON THE TIRES. EXACTLY ONE MONTH LATER, THE FRONT DRIVER TIRE BLEW OUT FROM THE SAME CAUSE, AND THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (THE FIRST TIRE FAILURE WAS ALSO A HIGHWAY FAILURE). THIS FAILURE WAS ALSO INSIDE THE SIDE WALL, AND NOT DUE TO DEBRIS OR POTHOLE. THIS MAKES TWO OF FOUR NEW TIRES EXPERIENCING DANGEROUS HIGHWAY FAILURE WITHIN THE FIRST 4,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP. THIS 50% FAILURE RATE WITHOUT EXPLANATION I FEEL IS A SIGN OF A MANUFACTURERS PERFORMANCE DEFECT, GIVEN BOTH FAILURE OCCURRING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, AND WHEN THE TIRES WHERE IN NEW CONDITION. *TR

DURING WET PAVEMENT THE TIRES SPIN ON THE ROAD (WHEN I AM STOPPED AT A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND TRY TO MOVE WHEN IT TURNS GREEN, EVEN AT THE SLOWEST ACCELERATION SPEED POSSIBLE) AND ON AN EXIT RAMP THE CAR LOSES CONTROL AT THE MINIMUM SPEEDS. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY OF OTHERS ON THE ROAD, MYSELF AND PROPERTY DAMAGE DUE TO THESE TIRES UNSAFE BEHAVIOR. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BETWEEN JULY AND NOV. 2009 BUT I WAS NOT SURE THAT THE DEFECTIVE TIRES COULD BE THE ROOT CAUSE FOR THE CAR'S BEHAVIOR. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2007 AND IT WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TIRES. THE CAR TIRES WERE FINE THE FIRST WINTER. THE NEXT WINTER IN 2008 I STARTED NOTICING THE CAR WAS HAVING ISSUES WHEN THERE WAS VERY LITTLE SNOW ON THE DRIVE WAY OR ROAD. THE CAR WAS SLIPPERY AND THE FRONT TWO TRIES JUST HAD PROBLEMS. THIS WINTER I ALMOST WOULD HAVE BEEN RAN OVER BY ANOTHER CAR WHILE THIS CAR TIRES JUST WOULD NOT MOVE AND SLIPPED AND WAS IN BETWEEN TWO LANES. I FINALLY CHANGED THE TIRES WHEN I HAD 2500 MILES ONLY IN MY CAR. MY HUSBAND CALLED TOYOTA DEALER AND SPOKE WITH THEM AND THEY BLAME BRIDESTONE. I HAD TO GET THE CAR ON THE ROAD SIDE AND THE POLICE HAD TO REMOVE MY CAR AS IT WAS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. I HOPE YOU LOOK AT THE TIRERACK WEBSITE FOR OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME KIND OF ISSUES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE TOYOTA DEALER STATED THAT THE MOST LIKELY EXPLANATION WAS BECAUSE OF AN IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF THE VALVE SENSORS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED BECAUSE IT HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY DIAGNOSED. I BOUGHT A TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID 2007 AT THE END OF OCT. 2006. I ALSO BOUGHT A PRE-PAID MAINTENANCE SERVICE. YESTERDAY, DEC. 6 2007, I TOOK MY CAMRY FOR THE 5TH REGULAR SERVICE FOR 25,000 MILES. I COMMUTE TO A DISTANT WORK, SO I PUT ON A LOT OF HIGHWAY MILES. THE SERVICE MANAGER FORM THE FOLSOM LAKE TOYOTA DEALER CALLED ME TO INFORM ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE ALL OF MY FOUR TIRES. HE SAID THAT THE TREAD WAS ALL WORN OUT. I WAS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED ABOUT THE EXCEPTIONALLY ACCELERATED WEAR OF BRIDGESTONE TIRES. I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO TALK TO THE TIRE COMPANY CUSTOMER SERVICE. THERE THEIR EXPLANATION WAS THAT BECAUSE OF TOYOTA'S SPECIFICATIONS, THEY PRODUCED TIRES THAT HAD SOFTER RUBBER FOR BETTER RIDERSHIP. IT MAKES THEM LAST MUCH LESS THAN THEIR STORE TIRES. BY THE WAY, THE TIRES, TURANZA EL400 IN THEIR STORE WILL LAST ABOUT 80,000MILES. THE SAME BRAND AND SAME MODEL TIRES WILL HAVE TWO DIFFERENT PERFORMANCE. I DID NOT PAY ANY CLOSER LOOK ON THE TIRES BECAUSE I ONLY PUT 25,000 MILES ON THEM. IT IS ALSO MOSTLY FROM HIGHWAY DRIVE. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA CONSUMER REPRESENTATIVE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBLE AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT UP TO THE TIRE COMPANY. I COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO PROBLEMS BECAUSE NEVER EXPECTED OR SUSPECTED ANY BAD TIRES. I HAD MANY DIFFERENT CARS FROM DIFFERENT COMPANIES, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT A BRAND NEW CAR TIRES LASTING ONLY 25,000 MILES. DEALER SUSPECTS MY TIRE PEOPLE DAMAGE THE SENSOR. I AM INCLINED TO THINK EITHER THE SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY/CONSISTENTLY OR THE DEALER MECHANIC DOESN'T UNDERSTAND HOW TO PROGRAM THE SENSOR CODES. DEALER HAS CONTACTED THEIR TOYOTA SUPPORT FOR CLARIFICATION AND LEARNED LOTS FROM THEM BECAUSE OF MY PERSISTENCE AND CONTINUED MALFUNCTIONS. IN A NUTSHELL, THE MONITORING WILL NOT REPORT A PRESSURE PROBLEM UNLESS THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN 20+ MILES IN A SINGLE START. I ONLY GO OVER 20 MILES IN A SINGLE ENGINE START ABOUT EVERY THREE MONTHS. SO, IT SEEMS LIKE THE MONITORING SYSTEM IS NOT PROCESSING THE AVAILABLE INFORMATION IN SUCH A WAY THAT IS RELIABLE/MEANINGFUL. FURTHER, IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT, I DON'T KNOW IF THIS DATA IS A RECORDED ELEMENT IN THE BLACK BOX FEATURE OF THE CAR (HOW FAST, SEAT BELT USE, OTHER DRIVING INTERPRETATIONS). IF IT IS, HOW CAN THAT DATA ELEMENT BE CONSIDERED AS A POTENTIAL FACTOR (OR NOT) IF THE MONITORING SYSTEM ITSELF DOES CANNOT BE TRUSTED IF DRIVING LESS THAN 20 MILES IN ANY SINGLE ENGINE START?? I DO HAVE DIFFERENT SENSORS IN MY SUMMER AND WINTER TIRES; MY RECENTLY REMOUNTED WINTER TIRES (ON THEIR OWN WHEELS) WORKED FINE UNTIL I DROVE OVER 20 MILES LAST WEEK.
