Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 56)
Service Brakes →2 issues
Your brake pedal suddenly sinks almost to the floor without warning when you try to stop, even though the brake fluid level is normal and there are no visible leaks. No warning lights appear on the dashboard. The problem occurs randomly and unpredictably, which could be dangerous in traffic. This likely requires a brake system inspection to find internal leaks or failed components within the braking system.

Your brake pedal slowly sinks to the floor after coming to a complete stop, and your vehicle creeps forward even though the brakes are engaged. Your mechanic has bled the brakes multiple times and found no air in the lines or other obvious issues, yet the problem persists. You're relying on putting the car in Park to prevent it from rolling into other vehicles at traffic lights. The fix will likely require a thorough diagnostic of the brake system, including inspection of the master cylinder, brake lines, and hydraulic components.

Unknown Or Other →2 issues
Your car's alarm went off unexpectedly while parked, and smoke began coming from the engine compartment. The engine repeatedly attempted to start on its own, your key fob stopped working, and the situation escalated to a full engine fire that required the fire department to extinguish it. The vehicle caught fire again while being towed and was completely destroyed. This appears to be a serious electrical or fuel system malfunction that caused uncontrolled engine cranking and ignition.

Your windshield developed a crack without any visible impact damage. While Toyota blamed a small surface indentation on the glass, a independent window repair specialist diagnosed it as a stress crack caused by the windshield's heating element. The repair will likely involve either resealing the heating element or replacing the windshield.

Fuel/propulsion System →2 issues
You noticed a loud noise coming from your fuel pump (located behind the driver's side rear tire) while your parked vehicle was off, and your garage smelled of gasoline. The noise continued even after you started the engine and let it run for about 1.5 minutes, only stopping when you locked the vehicle with the remote. This suggests your fuel pump may be running continuously even when the engine is off, which isn't normal.

Your fuel pump is making noises that you can hear while driving or at startup. This could indicate the pump is wearing out or having internal problems. A mechanic will need to inspect or replace the fuel pump to resolve the issue.

Steering →2 issues
You heard a clunking noise from the front end when turning the steering wheel, and it got worse over time. You also felt vibration in the front end at speeds above 45 mph. Your dealer found that suspension and steering fasteners were improperly tightened during manufacturing (related to NHTSA Campaign 19V67000), and recommended replacing the upper steering column shaft assembly, dust boot cover, and lower intermediate steering shaft. If these fasteners had completely loosened, you could have lost control of the vehicle.

Your car's steering wheel shakes noticeably when driving between 60-65 mph on the highway. You've already tried replacing tires four times in three weeks, balanced them multiple times, rotated them, checked the alignment twice, and inspected the brakes and suspension components at two Toyota dealerships, but the shaking continues. The problem likely involves a deeper suspension or steering component that needs more thorough diagnosis beyond standard tire and alignment checks.

Fuel System, Gasoline →2 issues
Your 4Runner stalled while driving at 25 MPH, and your traction control and check engine lights came on. A dealer diagnosed the problem as a faulty fuel pump that needs replacement. This is a serious issue because your vehicle lost power while in motion.

Your 2018 Toyota 4Runner is subject to a recall (NHTSA Campaign 20V682000) for a fuel system issue, but the required repair parts aren't currently available at your dealership. You've been waiting longer than you feel is reasonable for Toyota to make these parts available. The manufacturer is aware of the parts shortage, and you haven't experienced any actual failure yet.

Power Train, vehicle Speed Control →1 issue
Your 2018 Toyota 4Runner unexpectedly shifted into reverse and moved backward at high speed while your father was exiting the vehicle, even though no one had their foot on the brake. The vehicle dragged him and continued rolling backward down a hill before hitting a fence. This suggests a possible problem with the brake-shift interlock system (which normally prevents shifting out of Park without the brake engaged) or the automatic reverse feature.

Suspension →1 issue
Your front shock springs cracked and snapped in cold weather, making your vehicle unsafe to drive according to your dealer's inspection. You discovered the problem when replacing your tires at 25,000 miles with no prior warning signs. The replacement parts are on a months-long backorder, leaving your vehicle undriveable. Fixing this will require replacing the front shock absorbers and springs.

Engine →1 issue
Your transfer case seals failed at 64,000 miles, causing oil to leak onto the hot exhaust system. You noticed a burning oil smell and smoke coming from underneath the vehicle. A failed transfer case could cause loss of power while driving or create a fire risk from oil on the exhaust. The repair involves replacing the transfer case seals.

Air Bags →1 issue
Your vehicle was involved in a collision at 55 mph with three cows on the highway. The airbags failed to deploy during the crash, even though the vehicle was totaled. You should have the airbag system inspected and repaired by a qualified technician to ensure the safety system functions properly in future incidents.

Power Train →1 issue
Your front differential failed, which damaged one of your front axles and makes it harder to turn your vehicle. This type of failure can potentially cause your wheels to lock up while driving. Toyota has acknowledged this is a recurring problem in 2016-2019 4Runners and issued a technical service bulletin, but they're not offering free repairs. The fix will likely involve replacing the failed differential and possibly the damaged axle.

Steering,suspension,service Brakes →1 issue
Your 2018 Toyota 4Runner has multiple issues including steering wheel shaking at high speeds, suspension and brake problems, and an oil leak that appeared shortly after purchase. Warning lights are on the dashboard, and you've noticed overspray paint and damage near the passenger side tire area. The dealership has not addressed these safety concerns despite repeated requests. You may need suspension inspection, brake system service, an oil leak repair, and sensor replacement to address the warning lights.

Suspension,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your fuel pump continues to run even when the key is out of the ignition and the engine is off, and it won't stop until you turn the key on and back off again. Additionally, your 4Runner has had a persistent shaking problem in the front end and steering wheel since it was new, which has not been resolved despite multiple dealer visits. The fuel pump issue may require diagnosis of the fuel pump relay or electrical control system, while the front-end shaking could involve suspension components or steering components.

Structure →1 issue
Your 4Runner's radiator frame developed severe rust and corrosion. The dealer initially tried to fix it with just paint, but the corrosion returned. When you brought it back, the dealer said the frame needs to be replaced, but won't cover it under warranty even though the corrosion started early (at 13,290 miles). Fixing this will likely require replacing the entire radiator frame assembly.
