Open Safety Recalls (2)
NHTSA Campaign: 23V723000
Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2024 Forester vehicles. The engine water pipe may have loose attachment bolts, allowing the pipe to lose its seal and leak coolant.
Risk: Leaking coolant can contact a hot exhaust pipe, increasing the risk of a fire.
Fix: Subarus independent distributor processing facilities will tighten the water pipe attachment bolts. The affected vehicles have not been delivered to dealers or sold to owners and therefore, no owner notification letters will be sent. Owners may contact Subaru's customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRO-23.
NHTSA Campaign: 23V754000
Component: POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2024 Crosstrek, Impreza, 2023-2024 Forester, and 2023 WRX vehicles. The front driveshaft assemblies' outer race may develop cracks and break.
Risk: A broken driveshaft can cause a loss of drive power while driving or vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake engaged. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the left and right front driveshafts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 8, 2024. Owners may contact Subaru's customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRP-23.

Your windshield cracked in the upper right corner during a rainstorm and has since spread to about 4 inches long. The dealer confirmed the windshield needs replacement, but it's not covered under your bumper-to-bumper warranty despite your car having only 7,900 miles. The estimated replacement cost is $1,400, and you'll need a new windshield installed.

Air Bags →3 issues
Your passenger airbag won't activate at 88 pounds of weight, even though it activates in other Subaru vehicles at that same weight. The dealership tested your car and found the airbag weight sensor is off by about 10 pounds. You've reported this to the dealership three times, and they've confirmed that Subaru is aware of the issue but currently has no fix available.

Your 2024 Subaru Forester's passenger-side front airbag may not be working properly. You noticed the airbag warning light was sometimes off when the seat was occupied, and sometimes on, suggesting the airbag system isn't responding consistently to whether someone is sitting in that seat. Your dealer was unable to diagnose or repair the issue. This needs to be checked because a non-functional airbag puts your passenger at serious risk in a crash.

Your front passenger airbag system is turning off when your wife sits in the front passenger seat, leaving her unprotected. The airbag indicator light shows the system is disabled, and this problem has existed since the car was brand new. This is a critical safety issue that needs immediate dealer inspection and repair to ensure the airbag system functions properly for front passenger protection.

Unknown Or Other →3 issues
Your driver's side rear door window suddenly shattered and exploded inward while you were driving on the highway, sending glass into the cabin. The glass debris missed your child in the safety seat but damaged the car's paint. You hadn't noticed any prior damage to the window and didn't hear anything hit the car. The window may have failed due to a manufacturing defect similar to a 2019 recall Subaru issued for this same window on another model. Repair will involve replacing the entire rear door window glass and repainting the affected area.

Your driver's side mirror has a distorted reflection that makes it difficult to see clearly and potentially unsafe. You've taken the car to the dealership multiple times, and while they acknowledge the distortion, they say it's normal for this mirror style—though you've noticed the 2025 model doesn't have the same issue. The dealership may need to replace the mirror assembly to resolve the problem.

Air Bags, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your vehicle's forward collision avoidance system failed to slow the car or prevent a collision when you attempted a right turn, and the airbags did not deploy on impact with a utility pole. The driver sustained a concussion, and there were no warning lights or known issues beforehand. A formal inspection is needed to determine why the safety systems did not activate as designed.

Forward Collision Avoidance, lane Departure →1 issue
Your EyeSight safety system is shutting down almost daily, which disables multiple protection features at once — including lane assist, lane departure warning, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, and proximity alarms. When this happens, you're left without these safety features until the system resets. Your dealership has said this is normal operation, but you should request a thorough diagnostic or software update to determine if a malfunction is occurring.

Structure →1 issue
Your 2024 Subaru Forester's rear hatch failed to stop or reverse when it struck your head while closing. The hatch should automatically detect obstructions and stop, but it didn't, causing you injury. You've contacted both the dealer and Subaru corporate about this safety concern. The fix will likely involve inspecting and possibly replacing the hatch's obstruction detection sensor or control module.

Tires →1 issue
Your Bridgestone Ecopia H/L Plus tires are rated for mud and snow, but they provide very poor traction in snowy conditions. You may experience tire slipping even at low speeds (under 5 mph) with moderate braking force on level ground. Replacing these tires with a winter-rated or all-season tire with better snow performance is recommended.

Vehicle Speed Control, unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your 2024 Subaru Forester suddenly accelerated on its own while you were parking, even though your foot was not on the gas pedal. The car traveled at least 27 feet, skidded when you braked, and struck a bus stop structure and sign after going over a curb and planter onto a sidewalk. Subaru's investigation concluded it was driver error, but you're certain your foot wasn't on the accelerator. This issue may involve the electronic throttle control system or related software, which would require diagnostic testing and possible reprogramming or component replacement by a Subaru dealer.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your brakes completely failed to engage when you pressed the pedal while approaching a stop sign at about 1.5 miles from home, causing you to run the intersection and crash into a corn field. The vehicle is now undrivable and has not been inspected yet, so the exact cause is unknown. The brake system will need to be thoroughly inspected and likely replaced or repaired.

Engine →1 issue
After an oil change at your dealership, an oil leak was discovered on the right side of your engine, though the exact source couldn't be pinpointed. Based on online reports, this could be caused by valve cover or spark plug boot seals splitting and leaking oil. You're concerned that if oil contacts the exhaust manifold, it could potentially cause an engine compartment fire, and the dealership is repairing it under warranty. The fix will likely involve inspecting and replacing the leaking seals or gaskets on the valve cover and spark plug area.

Back Over Prevention →1 issue
Your backup camera stopped working after you washed your car, leaving you unable to see what the rear obstacle detection system was alerting you to. You had to get out of the vehicle to check manually, which created a safety risk, especially around children. The camera resumed working the next day once the vehicle dried, suggesting water exposure from washing may be the cause.

Unknown Or Other,visibility/wiper →1 issue
Your windshield shattered when hit by a bottle thrown from an oncoming vehicle, sending glass shards into the cabin and toward your face. The glass broke into small splinters that could have caused serious eye injury or blindness if you hadn't been wearing glasses. The dealership staff was surprised by how easily the windshield was penetrated and how much glass debris entered the vehicle. Your windshield may need to be replaced with a new one.

Exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your car's headlight indicator on the dashboard can be misleading. When only your daytime running lights are on, the indicator won't light up in normal daylight — but it will illuminate in darker conditions like storms or dusk, making you think your full headlights are on when they're not. This can lead you to drive in complete darkness with no taillights or side lights, only the dim daytime running lights. The fix would involve reprogramming the dashboard indicator logic so it only lights up when your actual headlights are turned on, not based on daytime running light activation.
