NHTSA Campaign: 15V032000

Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 Nissan Rogue vehicles manufactured March 7, 2007, to November 26, 2013, and 2014 Nissan Rogue Select vehicles manufactured September 23, 2013, to July 2, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience an electrical short in the harness connector due to a mixture of snow/water and salt seeping through the carpet on the driver side floor near the harness connector.

Risk: An electrical short can cause a vehicle fire.

Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the kick panel wiring harness connector and will if necessary install a new harness connector and waterproof seal, free of charge. The recall began on February 26, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261.

Component: STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 ROGUE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 17, 2010, THROUGH OCTOBER 30, 2010. THE CIRCUIT BOARD MAY NOT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED IN THE CORRECT POSITION ON CERTAIN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ASSIST CONTROL UNITS. THIS MAY CAUSE ADDITIONAL STRESS ON THE SOLDER OF THE TERMINAL TO THE CIRCUIT BOARD RESULTING IN THE SOLDER CRACKING AND SEPARATING COMPLETELY FROM THE CIRCUIT BOARD.

Risk: AS THE CIRCUIT BOARD FAILS, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FEATURE WILL STOP FUNCTIONING, INCREASING THE FORCE NEEDED TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Fix: NISSAN WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE EPS CONTROL UNIT IF NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

While driving on the expressway, your car's engine began to rev but wouldn't accelerate properly, causing it to slow down significantly. This is a known issue related to transmission fluid overheating, which can create a dangerous situation, especially in heavy traffic. The fix typically involves installing a transmission cooler to prevent the fluid from overheating.

Filed: Oct 2024

Your airbag warning light is flashing on the dashboard. The dealer found a B1054 error code, which indicates a problem with the driver's airbag module—likely a loose connection or internal issue. This is a safety concern that needs to be addressed, as your airbag may not deploy properly in a crash. Repairs will likely involve inspecting and repairing or replacing the driver's airbag module.

Your vehicle was sold to you without airbags, which you weren't told about beforehand. Additionally, your car has an oil leak and a faulty catalytic converter that the dealer claimed was fixed, but after leaving the dealership your vehicle jerked hard repeatedly while driving at highway speeds, disrupting traffic. Neither the dashboard warning lights nor the dealer alerted you to the missing airbags or the oil leak problem. Addressing this will likely require installing replacement airbags, repairing the oil leak (possibly requiring new gaskets or seals), and replacing the catalytic converter.

Your airbag system stopped working due to water damage that got into the seat area. This is a serious safety issue since airbags are a critical protection feature in a crash. The repair will likely involve replacing the water-damaged seat components and having the airbag system professionally inspected and reset.

FireFiled: Aug 2025

Your car's engine compartment caught fire while parked and unoccupied in your driveway, with no warning lights appearing beforehand. Fire department personnel extinguished the flames, and the exact cause remains undetermined, though the fire originated under the hood. This may be related to an electrical system issue and should be investigated by a qualified technician to prevent recurrence.

Your car's electrical system is experiencing an unspecified problem. Without more details about what you're noticing — such as dim lights, a dead battery, warning lights on the dashboard, or components not working — it's difficult to pinpoint the exact issue. A technician will need to diagnose the electrical system to identify which component needs repair.

Filed: Jul 2025

Your car is experiencing unexplained impact damage that you didn't cause, and the airbags have deployed on their own. Most concerning is that the engine loses power on the highway and won't go faster than 20 mph. This suggests a serious engine or fuel system problem that needs immediate diagnosis to determine if there's a fuel system blockage, faulty oxygen sensor, or other engine management issue.

Filed: Mar 2025

Your car's power steering suddenly stopped working while you were driving. This means you lost the power assist that normally makes steering easier, so the steering wheel became much harder to turn.

Filed: Dec 2024

While driving on the interstate, your Rogue felt like it was floating and occasionally shaking. When parked, you or someone else noticed the driver-side rear wheel wasn't aligned straight—the tire was angling outward. Both a Nissan dealership and an independent mechanic found that extreme rust had eaten through the upper control arm and severely corroded the undercarriage, making the suspension unsafe and unrepairable. This rust caused the rear wheel to wobble while driving and risked complete failure.

Your 2011 Rogue has experienced multiple serious electrical and mechanical failures: the transmission overheats in warm weather, you've lost power steering and engine power during driving, the electrical system has shorted out leaving you without battery power, and the passenger airbag may not be functioning properly. You did not receive recall notices from Nissan for any of these issues despite recalls being issued for all four problems. Repairs will likely involve transmission fluid cooler service, electrical system diagnostics and rewiring, power steering system inspection, battery and alternator testing, and airbag system inspection or replacement.

Filed: Dec 2023

Your passenger seat airbag system stopped working and won't detect when someone is sitting in that seat, meaning the airbag won't deploy in a crash. The dealer told you this is a known problem and suggested either an electrical reset ($150, which only worked temporarily) or replacing the entire passenger seat ($2,500). This is a serious safety issue because your passenger won't have airbag protection if you're in an accident.

Your car shakes and jerks badly when you come to a stop, making it difficult or impossible to accelerate from a standstill. If you try to push through, the engine dies—this happens especially when merging onto the highway or in hot weather, creating a dangerous situation in traffic. The issue appears to be related to the engine, electrical system, or powertrain.

Your car's doors locked automatically while the vehicle was running and parked in your driveway, even though you don't have an auto-lock feature enabled. You were locked out of your running car and had to use a spare key to regain access. This happened after your key fob battery was replaced and no longer functions properly. The fix may involve diagnosing the door lock module and electrical system to identify why the locks are engaging unexpectedly.

Your car has multiple electrical issues: the back tail lights aren't working, the transmission module needs repair, and the headlight switch needs replacement. Your airbag system is malfunctioning, the cruise control isn't working properly and the cruise control steering switch needs to be replaced, and your dashboard control panel is not functioning correctly. Fixing these issues will likely require replacing multiple electrical components including switches, modules, and the front hub bearing.

Your Rogue has experienced multiple sudden power losses and stalls at red lights despite six repair attempts. Technicians have replaced various components including the air flow sensor, O2 sensor, catalytic converters, starter, alternator, and mass air flow sensor, but the problem returns within 3 months each time. The most recent technician suggested the cruise control spring may be the underlying cause. Getting to the root cause will likely involve thorough diagnostic testing to identify which component is actually failing, rather than replacing parts based on error codes alone.
